The spanish referred to the non catholic chinese survivors of the rebellion as "infidel"
By 1589, Governor de Vera reported that there were already 4,000 of them, and by 1600 the number had jumped' to 15,000. In 1605, when the Chinese were asked to rebuild the destroyed walls of Manila, there were only 1,500 "infidel" Chinese to comply with ... This decree was revoked shortly after Arandia's death in 1758.
