Earl Anderson link

I was interested in what Earl Anderson had to say about how the Plan of St Gall may have influenced Umberto Eco's conception of the monastery in The Name in the Rose. When I followed the link, however, it was dead. This is good example of why a bare URL should not be used in citation; if this is from a published source, a citation might've enabled me to track this down. It seems to be a reasonable assertion, and I would've liked to include it in another article I'm writing. Cynwolfe (talk) 14:09, 2 August 2009 (UTC)

Illustration

The caption under the illustration labels it as a reconstruction of the Abbey of St. Gall based on the 9th century plan, but the article seems to state the plan was never actually built (although the illustration seems to match the plan). Is this an illustration then, of what the plan would have looked like if built (in which case, it isn't St. Gall), or is it in fact a picture of St. Gall Abbey? I assume it can't be St. Gall if it's based on a 9th century plan, since the article also states that the Plan of St. Gall (the one of a not-real abbey) is the only architectural drawing from the period in question. If the plan was created in the nineth century it didn't "survive the 900 year period between the fall of the Roman Empire and the 13th century." Shouldn;t this read "the only major architectural drawing to survive from the roughly 900 year period between the fall of the Roman Empire and the 13th century." - SimonP July 6, 2005 16:06 (UTC)
