I got a good kick out of the sentence that said (Rabbi) Martin Buber was a National Socialist. Thanks for the laugh, wikipedia. I took out the whole sentence because it sounded made up and was un-cited, in addition to claiming that a Jewish philosopher who resigned in protest when Hitler took power was a Nazi. Otto Rahn , a searching true edit

I would say Otto Rahn was an amaizing person, that only wanted to find his own grail, and had to lie to the society of his time for being allowed to follow his investigations "in peace", he would may be have discovered something that the governement did't wanted to be known and then a mysterius death followed his discoveries.

24.17.37.169 09:56, 4 April 2007 (UTC) wikipedia is subject to the tides of public opinion it seems.Reply

rahn was made untersturmbahnfuhrer by himmler himself who was impressed by his academic prowess.

he opposed the war effort publically and was a humanist, but the uniform (which he told his friend he hated) and spending money for his archaeological research changed his views or at least muted them.

the ahnenerbe wiki does not mention him, however he was it's founder. the logo on the page was his design, the "O" "T" and the fish are very clear to all that know signs and sigils. one of his odd theories was that lucifer and the devil were not the same, as was commonly taught. he refers to the god of the old testament and the devil in the new, referring to several aramaic names as well as the disposition and acts - the plagues and terror of the old and the benevolent father of the new. "how art thou fallen O star of the morning" - refers to lucifer in the old testament. "I am the morning star" - jesus says in the new testament. there are a number of other connections establising the jesus/lucifer theory in his works.

that is why he has placed the fish in such fashion,in the logo - it is also the cup...

he became very disappointed with some of the inhuman acts of the ahnenerbe, and when he failed to change things he rebelled. he was disciplined repeatedly for disloyalty to the SS, looking the other way, letting people go, and that sort of thing. he continued to use his position as a guard to ease human suffering.

the society that gave him the company of such as eckhardt and liebenfels still had enough power to protect him, as he was still a brother of the chancellor. after a failed attempt at suicide, he was confined and the discrepancy in the dates isbecause they waited to find a perfect lookalike corpse.

he was evacuated in project paperclip as an educator and historian with state secrets and settled in new york. he is said to have moved to live in chile in his later years.

The preceding poster says: "one of his odd theories was that lucifer and the devil were not the same, as was commonly taught."

This is not an odd theory; it's an established fact. Rahn isn't even the originator. Unabridged dictionaries written before Rahn was even born state that the use of Lucifer as an alternate name for Satan is based on misinterpretation of a passage in Isaiah. It was nothing unusual to find dead bodies weeks, months or even years after death in high mountains, specially when someone froze to death and was covered by snow. Also some bodies were never found, rescue resources were not as good as today. Why would they need to find look-alike corpse in order to say he was death? Sounds like some conspiracy theory.I agree with previous poster about Lucifer.Wiki doesn't mention Otto Rahn as the founder of Ahnenerbe, because the founder was Heinrich Himmler, not Otto Rahn, and this is a well documented fact. Dates edit

According to the German article, Rahn died in March, but was found in May.

Richard Stanley's Documentary on him edit

Director Richard Stanley, himself an odd figure, did a documentary on Rahn entitled Secret Glory. It's included on the Dust Devil: The Final Cut DVD.Lisapollison 14:55, 6 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Sources? edit

The biographical parts here rely too much on Preston's article in the "Telegraph" 2008. You have to compare the German Wikipedia which relies on a biography (Hans-Juergen Lange 1999) and differs in more than one point. E.g., Rahn was not persecuted by the SS (Himmler was to take part in Rahn's - announced - marriage which didn't happen b/o his probable suicide).Rheinvolk (talk) 19:09, 17 May 2018 (UTC)Reply
