Transliteration guidlines: Kievsky or Kiyevsky ? edit

As far as I know the transliteration of the russian word for Киев is Kiev. Did someone change it or whatis going on? — Preceding unsigned comment added by ValterUdarnik (talkcontribs) 18:16, 15 April 2019 (UTC)Reply

No, this is incorrect. The romanization, according to WP:RUS, would be Kiyev. We are not using this name however because the city has it own eatsblished English name which is Kiev.--Ymblanter (talk) 09:57, 16 April 2019 (UTC)Reply
I would have to disagree with you here, User:Ymblanter: as was recently stated] by User:Mzajac on Talk:Odessa: "Kiev is the Russian-[based] version, [and Kyiv is a Ukrainian-based version]", in other words the statement you made above the city has it own eatsblished English name which is Kiev is factually incorrect. p.s. User:ValterUdarnik it is neither Kievsky nor Kiyevsky, it is Kyivan, so the title should be Moscow Kyivan railway station--73.75.115.5 (talk) 20:35, 19 September 2020 (UTC)Reply
Would you please start doing something useful? It is not difficult to check that my reply is from 2019, and the article was moved three days ago.--Ymblanter (talk) 20:38, 19 September 2020 (UTC)Reply
Hi Ymblanter, apologies - I did not realize this was an old discussion (however I still stand that correct name for this title should be Moscow Kyivan railway station, now that Ukraine's capital has been renamed to Kyiv on Wikipedia. p.s. I now added a separate sub-section for this discussion--73.75.115.5 (talk) 20:39, 19 September 2020 (UTC)Reply

Transliteration guidlines wrt recent Kyiv RM: Kiyevsky or Kyivan? edit

I think this title should be Moscow Kyivan railway station, now that Ukraine's capital has been renamed to Kyiv on Wikipedia (because this title is an English title and not a Transliterated-from-Russian title (in which case it would be Moskva Kiyevsky railway station).--73.75.115.5 (talk) 20:42, 19 September 2020 (UTC)Reply

I am not sure where did you get this innovative idea that we should literally translate the station names. How would you translate Losinoostrovskaya railway station then? Moose Island railway station? And do not forget about Kiyevskaya (Moscow Metro), there are three stations, they can all be renamed to Kyivan (Moscow Metro). And there are streets as well. And also localities. Why do not you propose renaming Kiyevka to Kyivan, or perhaps Kyivka? In any case, the idea is so innovative, that in order to move it forward it is better to discuss at Wikipedia Talk:WikiProject Trains first. And if it gets implemented, we will have to move dozens of thousands of articles.--Ymblanter (talk) 21:31, 19 September 2020 (UTC)Reply

Kiewsky edit

Hello!

I changed every Kiyevsky in the Article to "Kievsky" because

1. This is the way how they spell it in their own domain 2. It is the proper way to transcribe it from russian

also what is rm ?!

greetings — Preceding unsigned comment added by Kedr26 (talkcontribs) 19:19, 2 December 2020 (UTC)Reply

No, the proper romanization from Russian which we are using is WP:RUS, and what they are using themselves is in the first instance irrelevant. You may want to read WP:MOS, thge part about the article names.--Ymblanter (talk) 19:28, 2 December 2020 (UTC)Reply

Well i have to disagree on that with you. In theory they can name it whatever they want. I think we should go with their "official" version. Also, to be honest, i have never seen "Kiyev" in my life. Kiew, kiev, kijev, kijew. But never have i seen "Kiyev" before. It seems to me that there is something wrong with that style. Otherwise the official RZD website would probably write it like that.

I am sorry but Wikipedia policies apparently disagree with you. I am afraid we have to follow the policies.--Ymblanter (talk) 06:56, 3 December 2020 (UTC)Reply
