Midal vs Magdala edit
"Migdal is built on the likely location of the classic era Magdala - a major Jewish town on the shores of the Lake of Galilee, which was destroyed during the First Jewish-Roman War in the 1st century CE." --- This is at least misleading, since the believed location of Magdala is about 2km away to the SE on the lake shore, where al-Majdal stood. What might be true, but I don't know it to be true, is that the lands of Migdal now include that location. If there is a source for that, it can be added with the correct wording. If the ancient location of Magdala does not even lie in the lands of Migdal, I don't see why it should even be mentioned. Zerotalk 13:27, 6 April 2018 (UTC)
- I don't see why you bring that here, you should've just removed it. Anyway I did it about a second ago.--Bolter21 (talk to me) 18:51, 6 April 2018 (UTC)

- Returned to bold editing a few months ago, doing good so far. Back to the subject, Madjal/Magdala are indeed within Migdal's jurisdiction. I can try and find sources to add that it is in the town's territory, and I believe the site is also ran by the council but for some odd reasons there aren't many sources bout' this place online, and I probably won't spend the 200 shekels on gasoline to get there.--Bolter21 (talk to me) 22:07, 6 April 2018 (UTC)

....User:Zero0000, do you think anyone can get hold of that article and send it to Bolter? Huldra (talk) 22:51, 8 April 2018 (UTC)
- Note - Migdal's juristriction extends down to the Sea of Galilee and includes the site of Magdala. This is clearly visible on any map - even google maps or the official govmap.gov.il site - [1]. As such - Magdala is fully incorporated in Migdal.Icewhiz (talk) 06:35, 9 April 2018 (UTC)
- There is a whole article on ancient Magdala. If modern Midgal has expanded that far, it can be mentioned. It isn't a reason for a mass duplication of content, which is our practice even for cities built exactly on ancient sites when the ancient site has its own article. Zerotalk 11:21, 9 April 2018 (UTC)
- I don't believe this is an "expansion" - but rather the state of affairs from circa 1949. Migdal junction is built more or less on the Magdala site - with a shopping center, restaurants/eateries, gas station, hotel, beaches, 2 caravan sites, as well as a visitors center. Mentioning the ancient history of Migdal, namged after Magdala, in 1.5 lines -
"Migdal is named after a city from the Second Temple period called "Magdala". The ancient city is believed to have been located in the location of the depopulated Palestinian village of al-Madjdal, which preserved the name."
- is not our practice regarding modern cities that encompass older ones - e.g. New Amsterdam and New York City.Icewhiz (talk) 11:35, 9 April 2018 (UTC)- As I see it, Magdala should receive a section in the article as a landmark or a notable place. I haven't yet got to work on Migdal, but probably when it will have a larger article, a small section about Magdala won't feel like not enough. Migdal has over 100 years of history of its own.--Bolter21 (talk to me) 13:42, 9 April 2018 (UTC)
