  • I'd suggest expanding the lead a little; it's very short as it stands.
Done Expanded a bit a la the lead for the Nicole Haislett article. Dirtlawyer1 (talk) 15:47, 25 January 2015 (UTC)Reply
  • Can you include her date of birth? Sports-reference.com has it.
Query for Mike - I previously removed her birth date per Mary Wayte's personal request. If required for your GA approval, I will re-add it now. (FYI, this Wikipedia article has a lot more internet exposure than her Sports-Reference.com Olympic athlete profile.) Dirtlawyer1 (talk) 16:28, 25 January 2015 (UTC)Reply
  • Suggest avoiding starting a sentence with "And with"; I'd either make it a comma before it, or cut the "And".
  Done Tweaked. Dirtlawyer1 (talk) 15:47, 25 January 2015 (UTC)Reply
  • I don't know if this is worth mentioning, but per an April 09, 1995 NYT article she was a member of the U.S.O.C.'s athletes advisory council at that time.
Done Added a bit. Provides nice context for the steroids in swimming controversy for anyone who reads the footnotes (note that Mary Wayte and Dara Torres were college and Olympic teammates, both with zero history of steroid use, and plenty of public statements on point). Dirtlawyer1 (talk) 16:28, 25 January 2015 (UTC)Reply
  • You don't give her retirement date, but per this article it appears she retired after the 1988 Olympics. I think that's worth mentioning, and it would also allow you to move her graduation sentence down to the post-swimming section.
Done I've added retirement prose, and moved the college graduation text. Dirtlawyer1 (talk) 16:28, 25 January 2015 (UTC)Reply
  • The ishof.org links come up as dead on the checklinks tool.
Done I've updated the link. ISHOF is apparently in the process of upgrading and restructuring their previously primitive website. Long overdue. Dirtlawyer1 (talk) 15:47, 25 January 2015 (UTC)Reply
  • The first sentence about her swimming career includes medals that are not listed in the infobox -- e.g. the 1981 Japan medals. Is this because they were at relatively less important events? If so, could the events be linked in some way? Without a link or a mention in the infobox there's no way to know what these medals were for.
Done Tweaked and clarified. The events listed were those majors where she competed, not necessarily where she won medals. Based on the list in the ISHOF profile, the infobox medals table is accurate and complete. Dirtlawyer1 (talk) 15:47, 25 January 2015 (UTC)Reply
  • How about including a little context on why the silver medal medley relay team was assembled at the last minute? Seems like an interesting bit of background colour that's worth a sentence.
Done I expanded this a bit per your suggestion. Please review my added prose to make sure it's not overly dramatic or rah-rah. Dirtlawyer1 (talk) 16:46, 25 January 2015 (UTC)Reply

I'll place this on hold. Mike Christie (talk - contribs - library) 17:58, 24 January 2015 (UTC)Reply

@Mike Christie: I have addressed the issues raised above. Please let me know what you think. I'm moving over to the Dara Torres GA review. Dirtlawyer1 (talk) 16:46, 25 January 2015 (UTC)Reply
I'm still getting one dead link from ishof.org, but I'll let that go on the assumption that you'll fix it when the site is stable again. The only remaining question I have is on the birthdate. I don't often work on biographies of living people so I'm not very familiar with BLP policy. Is this something that is OK to do on request? I would have expected the policy answer to be that cited, relevant and NPOV information doesn't get removed but perhaps I'm missing something? I'm OK with passing it without the date if you'd prefer, but I'm curious to know what the rules are in a case like this. Mike Christie (talk - contribs - library) 17:55, 25 January 2015 (UTC)Reply
@Mike Christie: WP:BLPPRIVACY permits us to remove the exact birth date upon request of the subject, under certain conditions, and only include the year. Mary had a relatively good reason for asking that I not include her birth date for the time being. I have reinserted it to complete the GA review. Dirtlawyer1 (talk) 05:02, 26 January 2015 (UTC)Reply
OK, I'm going to go ahead and pass this. My reading of WP:BLPPRIVACY would be that you could limit it to the year but not remove it completely, but given that anyone interested can determine her approximate birthdate from the information in the article, there's no effective difference, so I guess it's OK. Mike Christie (talk - contribs - library) 19:59, 26 January 2015 (UTC)Reply
You're reading is correct, Mike. Thanks, as always, for your insightful review. Dirtlawyer1 (talk) 20:06, 26 January 2015 (UTC)Reply
