Hello! This page was listed on Wikipedia:Pages needing translation into English and is originally from a Spanish article. I'm a n00b but was trying to help fix the rough translation (original is in Spanish). In the process I found that most of this article is uncited, and some of what is cited is *very* incorrectly cited (e.g. the first 3 subheadings Childhood, Youth, and Crime are all attributed to this source, which actually only has a measly 5 sentences on the subject, most of which is very general and not at all what's written on the Wikipedia page). Gonna try to fix it up and catalogue my process as I go. Carla.Abra (talk) 00:33, 16 April 2020 (UTC)Reply

Update1- for the entire "Crime" section, I'm in the process of rewriting it. Sources are indicated in parentheses; I have all the urls but don't have time to add them right now. prolly tmrw (4/16/20). I'm still working on finding other sources to verify things. c.f. Wikipedia:Please do not bite the newcomers
Update2- I've spent hours trying to track down information on him to confirm the rest of the page, but to no avail. I can only find things pertaining to his crime, and with brief references to his life afterwards. There are some newspapers that mention him but I can't find them anywhere online (other than a listing in Google Books, but without the digital book); they're only available in print at university libraries. With that said, I've deleted the section on his children (the refs they had linked to pages that just had the "kids" names on them with no mention of their parents. Just cuz they have the same last name doesn't mean they're automatically related), his later years, and the two paragraphs on Mi Crimen del Desnudo since they're not verifiable. *FYI* I have a hunch that most of the info in the article is mostly correct (blogs and forums support it), but without being able to find real facts...hard to keep it in. Update3- Sources have been added in for the placeholders! Also cleaned up accent marks. Note: sources are everywhere because there are so many conflicting accounts of what happened, so I wanted to clearly mark which sources said what (so relative reliability can be determined at the user's discretion... they're all news articles/magazines but I have no idea what their "reputations" are so to speak). Update4- Finished adding celebrity and death portions. Again, had to scrap almost the entirety of what had been there (which was translated from the Spanish version) bc it was unsourced or (tenuously) linked to a blog. Sources everywhere, links done, should be good. Put a citation in the "books" heading bc that source lists all of them (not sure if that's allowed). Carla.Abra (talk) 04:27, 20 April 2020 (UTC)Reply

To do:

  • try to make this not an orphan?
  • rearrange ordering of citations
  • get feedback from somebody who knows what they're doing :)

I liked this quote from Poggi himself, from a TV show, but I'm not sure if it's appropriate (thought it gave a good counterbalance to the different versions of events that news sources report): "I drew strength from places I thought had none, and tightened the belt as strongly as I could until he stopped moving. That day, I became a hero." (Saqué fuerzas de donde no las tenía y apreté la correa lo más fuerte que pude hasta que dejó de moverse. Ese día me convertí en un héroe). From here
