Naming of the article

Can I suggest that, for the sake of continuity, this article should be re-titled as List of deaths in rock and roll (2020s). Then it would follow in the series from List of deaths in rock and roll (1950s) through to List of deaths in rock and roll (1990s). Personally, I prefer the way this article is titled. Brackets are usually used for disambiguation, and this isn't such a page - the date in brackets is a necessary part of the title. Was there any discussion of this when the split was carried out? Ghmyrtle (talk) 08:46, 11 February 2020 (UTC)

Les McKeown?

How is Les McKeown rock & roll? Or a member of the Four Seasons? And why are so many non-English-language rock performers left unlisted? Deb (talk) 08:16, 16 May 2021 (UTC)

Rock and roll is a very broad church, and attempts over the years to establish criteria for inclusion here have come to nothing (see the archives). Anyway, I would say the Four Seasons definitely are rock and roll in all but the most restricted sense, and a reasonable case could be made for the Bay City Rollers as well. I've no problem with adding non-English performers - additions to this list tend to be based on the whim of editors, who are mostly English-language. But, there are quite a lot of jazz and other performers - and non-performers - on this list who I would personally exclude. Good luck in trying to get consensus on any limitations! Proposed split and rename

I propose splitting this article -- "List of 2020s deaths in rock and roll" -- into separate articles by year, called "List of 2020 deaths in popular music", "List of 2021 deaths in popular music", "List of 2022 deaths in popular music", and "List of 2023 deaths in popular music". And I propose doing the same for the other lists of musician deaths by decade.

1. Splitting: The article is too long for readers to navigate easily and comfortably. It's already more than 300,000 bytes long, and we're only about a third of the way through the decade. See WP:SIZESPLIT for more on this topic. Looking at List of 2010s deaths in rock and roll, two of the ten years -- 2016 and 2017 -- have already been split out into separate articles. I propose doing the same for all the years, starting with this article.
2. Renaming: These articles list the deaths of musicians (plus songwriters, record producers, etc.) in all genres of popular music. That includes rock, and also pop, jazz, blues, country, reggae, and so on. That's what we want, but the articles should be named accordingly. (Moreover, rock and roll is a sub-genre of rock.)
3. Lists for other decades: The same ideas also apply to the seven other decade lists of deaths of popular musicians, which themselves are listed at List of deaths in rock and roll.

Splitting out and renaming the 2020s articles seemed to go well. So, I will probably split out and rename the 2010s articles. As I mentioned above, two of those are already separate.
