Genre edit

@Fostera12 Here are the sources that describe the genre as road movie

1. Kshana Kshanam was a road movie - The Indian Express

2. Filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma’s road thriller, Kshana Kshanam - Vogue India

3. Telugu-language road thriller - Livemint

4. Telugu neo-noir road film Kshana Kshanam - IB Times

5. Telugu road-thriller - Free Press Journal -- Ab207 (talk) 05:09, 12 October 2022 (UTC)Reply

@User:Ab207 These reference are taken by authors from wikipedia article only, I have already mention this to you on various occassions, that these news article editors are these days using wikipedia articles as their main source. They are directly lifting text (neo-noir, road thriller) from wikipedia articles, these terms are used by wikipedia editors only. It is simple common sense point. If you retain heist film some other news reporter will mention it as heist film, If you write action film some other news article will report it as action film, I guarantee this. These days wikipedia has become source of reference for news articles. We cant blindly depend and base our articles on these news articles. Please understand what I am trying to say. A lot of times we go by news articles, but it varies from article to article right. As far as I am aware film genre's are subjective, it doesnt require source, it requires common sense and consensus between two editors whilst there is a conflict. I would go with either heist film or action thriller film. Fostera12 (talk) 05:39, 12 October 2022 (UTC)Reply

@Fostera12
"As far as I am aware film genre's are subjective, it doesnt require source, it requires common sense and consensus" - This is simply not true. Any material that can be contested requires reliable sources, including genre. See MOS:FILMGENRE: "Genre classifications should comply with WP:WEIGHT and represent what is specified by a majority of mainstream reliable sources."
On the top of it, you yourself haven't able to provide any reliable source that supports your change. Thus, we should fall back to long-standing WP:STATUSQUO version, "road thriller", in this case. -- Ab207 (talk) 05:51, 12 October 2022 (UTC)Reply

I can provide sources after few months when some one writes retrospective article on the movie citing it as heist film. At that time what will be your logic? to blindly go by few news article and contradict other news articles? You have watched the film right, what do you think ? can we change a drama film to war film just because a news editor thinks so ? or there is a typo in a wikipedia article ? your wish i dont see any road travelling, road travel is just shown in 1 scene (city to forest by bike) in the film, predominantly the film happens in city and forest. There is no travel element to the film. Fostera12 (talk) 05:55, 12 October 2022 (UTC)Reply

I did watch the film, Fostera12 (in fact, it's one of my all-time favourites). But what I think is not relevant for the most part. For latest films, first we go by trailer reviews and then film reviews itself. Old films are a bit tricky as you said, it could be a case of mirroring Wikipedia. We can exclude one or two sources like that but when almost all the sources unanimously call it a particular genre, we'll have to include it.
Let me ping User:77Survivor for their input, a long-term editor who keeps track of genres of Indian films. -- Ab207 (talk) 06:02, 12 October 2022 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for pinging me, but I really don't know what to do in this case. I have myself never seen this title so if I were to choose a genre, I'd go with what reliable sources say in majority, or simply what even a few reliable sources say. Pick anything, but it should be backed by sources that are reliable. I know this doesn't solve problems if there's an edit war going over it, but in that case it's better left without a genre. 77Survivor (talk) 15:20, 12 October 2022 (UTC)Reply
@77Survivor Oh, I see. Thanks for looking into it any way.
@Fostera12 As you can see, we cannot really ignore majority reliable sources, so we must accommodate road film in the opening line. -- Ab207 (talk) 14:52, 13 October 2022 (UTC)Reply

I have an Idea, since thriller was also mentioned in two sources, we can mention action thriller right?. Because road has no connection with the movie. I have updated in article, check if it worksFostera12 (talk) 14:57, 13 October 2022 (UTC)Reply

@Fostera12 Yeah, we can mention 'thriller' but not 'action thriller' since it's not given in the sources.
In the current format, I don't think neo-noir is essential. How about 'road thriller and heist film'? -- Ab207 (talk) 16:14, 13 October 2022 (UTC)Reply
