Kevin-Prince Boateng lead section edit

The paragraph (Boateng is known for his strength, speed, shooting and offensive abilities that make him a serious threat for his opponents.) that I MarkMysoe have placed into the lead section of this KP Boateng article is to give a brief summary of what is written in the Styles of play and attributes section, which is totally acceptable according to MOS:LEAD. The paragraph may not be exactly accurate to what is written in the sources because in the sources the paragraphs uses a lot of [vague] and sentences containing words that is not universally familiar and don't have a Wikipedia article.

Now the problem I have is Oleola keeps on reverting my correct edit and using the exact paragraphs that are written in the source that is provided not being aware of the [vague] and un-universal words because not everyone in the world knows association football terms. I can also see that this editor Oleola has already been warned for doing similar actions on other Wikipedia articles by causa sui on 17 October 2011, see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Oleola#October_2011. MarkMysoe (talk) 23:14, 7 December 2011 (UTC)Reply

Mark, you are adding material to this article which is stated in none of the sources. To quote one of your additions, you say that Boateng has "nuclear explosive speed" (and even wikilinked the term "nuclear explosive!). The use of "nuclear explosive" as an adjective is ridiculous, it simply doesn't exist, and none of the sources use it. This is just puffery. You also say that Boateng has "genius footwork" despite that none of the sources mention his footwork. You also describe him as having a "rare-type nimble powerful physique", despite the fact that the hyphenated "rare-type" is a term I've never seen used in English, and the fact that none of the sources describe him as nimble or agile. You're just making stuff up; you're adding information to the article based on the fact that you've watched him play and therefore believe it to be true. You can't do that on wikipedia, see WP:OR.
Have a look again at the sentence I replaced all this with, and consider whether this is acceptable. Basalisk inspect damageberate 16:36, 22 December 2011 (UTC)Reply

Copy edit edit

I have reinstated the {{copy edit}} tag as there are still many sections with poor syntax, or over-blown language; e.g. :

  • "Boateng is known for his strength, speed, flamboyant amount of skill and offensive abilities . . ."
  • "George Weah has praised Boateng for his attributes . . ."
  • "occasionally imitating the Brazilian duo with crowd-pleasing moments"
  • "He also promised to Milan when he has 100% security that Milan signed him he will have a tattoo of A.C. Milan . . . "
  • "Boateng announced his retirement from international football, citing it to health reason . . . "

In fact, the whole tone of the article is rather un-encyclopedic, so I have tagged it for that as well. Please don't remove these tags until someone, not previously involved, has been able to review and improve the style and tone of the article. -- Daemonic Kangaroo (talk) 06:20, 9 December 2011 (UTC)Reply

Sourced information that keeps getting removed edit

In the (Personal life) section if the Daily Mail article is read properly then it clearly states that Kevin-Prince Boateng later sold all four of his cars; "'I know today that a high percentage of my colleagues are insolvent after their career,' he said. 'That will not happen with me. I put a portion of my salary to the side. My cars have all been sold.", please click hear and have a read it's at the end of the article --> http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-1252342/Kevin-Prince-Boateng-desperate-away-Portsmouth-slamming-amateurish-medical-care-Fratton-Park.html. As for the (Styles of play and attributes) section information that you have removed on the FIFA.com source if again read properly it will clearly say that: "It therefore comes as little surprise to find that Boateng boasts exceptional ability, refined technique and a range of ball-juggling tricks. His skill and pace are complemented by advanced tactical awareness and a powerful physique." in the title part where it says The Prince of Berlin, click here and have a read --> http://www.fifa.com/worldfootball/news/newsid=104637.html. Boateng playing for German youth teams edit

The paragraph which describes that Boateng played for German youth teams is sourced and relevant. Look at good articles like Patrice Evra or Cesc Fàbregas which also mention the the career in the youth national teams. --Jaellee (talk) 21:40, 10 September 2014 (UTC)Reply

Removal of personal information edit

It's normal for a bio to have family information so long as it's well sourced to reliable published sources. It'd be abnormal not to have it. The car-mirror thing was very well publicised at the time, and is mentioned from time to time since, not just domestically, see https://www.google.com/search?q=boateng+ebert+cars . Please feel free to remove the bit of trivia at the end, but I see no reason to remove the rest. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 20:38, 19 September 2014 (UTC)Reply

  1. As Kevin-Prince Boateng is a fully grown adult unpersonal and unwarranted text of his parents are irrelevant as none of them warrant any significant importance to be mentioned in Kevin-Prince Boateng's article.
  2. The relation of Kevin-Prince Boateng to Helmut Rahn is very unclear and differentiates from different sources.
  3. Other than Jerome Boateng, non of Kevin-Prince Boateng's mostly half-siblings warrant any significant importance to be mentioned in Kevin-Prince Boateng's article.
  4. As Kevin-Prince Boateng's trial was cancelled from many other sources following a payment of a fine of 56,000 for allegedly damaging vehicles over 5 years ago in 2009, thus Kevin-Prince Boateng was not convicted of any criminal damage so as such does not warrant any significant importance to be mentioned in Kevin-Prince Boateng's article. Mesling (talk) 22:11, 20 September 2014 (UTC)Reply
I repeat, it's normal and expected in a biographical article to have content dealing with the subject's family and background, whether the family members are notable or not. Announcing here that it isn't, doesn't justify repeated removal of valid, reliably-sourced content.
Please remember that you yourself added the car-damage thing, only your version was libellous and was removed by another editor. If Mr Boateng was not convicted, why did he pay the court fine?
As to speculation about his personal wealth, that's not really something that needs to appear in an encyclopedia, but particularly so if the source is a celebrity gossip site page worded very similarly to some of this Wikipedia article.
You might want to trim and tone down the music section: it's of interest, but some of it, like the "extraordinary dance choreographer" bit, is pure celebrity hype. And ease off on the WP:OVERLINKing... we don't link simple words like "singer". All readers of English know what a singer is. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 06:56, 20 September 2014 (UTC)Reply
  1. As for Mr Boateng's background he was looked after and raised by Hertha BSC from "1994 aged 7 years old, until 2007 aged 20 years old".
  2. Although normal, There is no personal information on family for instance when Mr Boateng has stated that he has only seen his speculated father 15 times in his entire life. As far as I'am concerned and "common sensibly" his father whom is speculated to be Prince Boateng does not warrant any significance to be mentioned in Kevin-Prince Boateng's article and it is in no way personal information. There is no personal information when Mr Boateng has no full-biological female or male siblings (i.e. Mr Boateng un-in-touch speculated half-siblings) and as such should not "common sensibly" require publishing on Mr Boateng's article. Sources from foreign un-English language sites can be misleading and incorrect and in translation.
  3. The indictments content addition has turned out to be an incorrect addition. As far as concerned Boateng was "alleged" to have damaged vehicles and Mr Boateng "accepted" a fine on the day of a scheduled trial which led to the trial being indefinitely cancelled. Patrick Ebert name being mentioned in Boateng's article is unwarranted and just gives a less-high profile footballer such as Patrick Ebert publicity.
  4. Wealth speculation is manual with high-profile footballers such as Mr Boateng for examples Neymar#Wealth and Cristiano_Ronaldo#Wealth. Mesling (talk) 08:50, 20 September 2014 (UTC)Reply
On 1, the idea that he was "looked after and raised" by a football club from the age of 7 isn't backed up by the source you added for the statement, which says he played for the club from the age of 7. As to 2, I'm afraid I don't understand what you're trying to say. The family and background information added was relevant, reliably sourced (Der Spiegel has a very strong reputation for fact-checking) and brief: if anything too brief, because it didn't include the fact that his father left the family. Perhaps you'd like to explain how an article about a footballer born in Germany who went on to play for Ghana can be complete if it doesn't tell us how he qualifies to play for that country?
As to a subject's personal wealth: as I said above, if it goes in, it must be referenced to a reliable source. Please read WP:RS to see what that means. The similar content at Neymar and Cristiano Ronaldo is sourced to France Football and Forbes magazine, not a celebrity-gossip site where the page cited, dated 18 June of this year (scroll down this index page to check), consists of a label at the top saying "Net worth: $20 million" followed by a copy of sections of the then-current revision of the Wikipedia article...
Reliable sources are required for personal categories such as religion and sexual orientation: see WP:BLPCAT. There's nothing in the article to suggest Mr Boateng holds any specific religious belief or that his belief is important to his public life. Reliable sources are also required for the names of Mr Boateng's children. Neither cited source names his older son as Jermaine-Prince, as you have. One says Jermaine, one Jerome. Neither gives a birthdate. The information about his younger son is cited to a brief gossip piece about how there's no point Rihanna fancying him because he's taken. This isn't acceptable according to Wikipedia policy: please read WP:Verifiability and WP:Biographies of living persons. I'm obliged under that policy - see HERE - to remove inadequately sourced contentious personal information about living persons, and have done so.
You added a large quotebox with Mr Boateng talking about the area he came from. I trimmed it and converted to prose: prose is generally preferable to a lengthy quote. Then you removed it. Yet you're determined to keep content sourced only to celebrity sites, and trivia like his picture being included on a page about sexy sportsmen on a TV company's website... I'm sorry, but this is supposed to be a serious encyclopedia, not a fanpage. I've assumed good faith about as far as I can here. Struway2 (talk) 08:36, 21 September 2014 (UTC)Reply
Regrettably inserted unwarranted content of area fiasco. Being born in Germany or any other country does not automatically make a footballer eligible to represent a specific country in international football because first the footballer would need to posses the specific country's passport. Mr Boateng qualifies to play for Ghana because he has always been in possession of a "Ghanaian passport" which automatically qualifies Mr Boateng to represent Ghana in international football. All this national team eligibility fiasco is mentioned and thoroughly explained in the "national team section" of Mr Boateng's article. I suggest that outside football personal contents is absolutely fine the way it is, without anymore controversial and unclear content addition. Mesling (talk) 10:04, 21 September 2014 (UTC)Reply
And I suggest that there are adequate reliable sources for perfectly clear family and background information to be included in the article, without having to resort to the tabloids and to celebrity gossip pages. Mr Boateng appears to be the sort of character about whom an informative and interesting Wikipedia article could be written if anyone wanted to make the effort. And we could start with allowing the readers to know how a boy born in Germany could have "always been in possession of a Ghanaian passport". Struway2 (talk) 10:37, 21 September 2014 (UTC)Reply

In the opening section, third paragraph, please change July 1994 to July 2004. The date is off by a decade; if he had been signed in 1994, he would've been only 7 years old. Bsmith9164 (talk) 17:09, 21 April 2015 (UTC)Reply
