John A. Logan Sr. did not receive the MOH. His son did. Check that fact.

Logan Did Not Win the Medal of Honor edit

John A Logan did not win the Medal of Honor, although his son did. The confusion arises from the fact that Logan did receive a gold "medal of honor" from his fellow officers of the XVII Corps for his gallantry during the Vicksburg Campaign. The medal he received was NOT what is erroneously refered to as the "Congressional" Medal of Honor. It took me many hours of research to unravel this mystery.

I am surprised there is no mention of Logan's actions in the battles of Champion Hill and Raymond, in both of which he played a pivotal role. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.228.128.35 (talk) 18:34, 9 March 2015 (UTC)Reply

Party switch? edit

If he switched from Democrat to Republican, the date and circumstances of the switch should be explained... AnonMoos (talk) 14:22, 4 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

Grant and Logan and our tears edit

In the Illinois State song, the correct lyrics are...

Grant and Logan and our 'teers.

'teers is short for "Volunteers," and refers to Black Jack Logan and the 31st Illinois Volunteers.

I don't know how to validate this.... it's wrong everywhere I check, even Illinois State Museum web site. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.184.40.208 (talk) 04:02, 3 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

  • This appears unlikely. I found several old versions of the song online, including one with a number of verses not included in the current version, and they all say "tears". I suspect the "tears" part refers to the deaths of Lincoln, Grant, and Logan. The song was written in the early 1890s; Grant died in 1885 and Logan in 1886.
