Major edits. Restructured the article into small sections. Better organized information. More concise. If I might suggest to anyone who knows about this man, add more detail to his religous views. The astronomy seems to be the major focus, not his viewpoints on religion. (7/12/05)

Alphabet for the blind

edit

Most sources seem to agree that the inventor of the triangular alphabet for the blind was not this James Gall but his father, James Gall the Elder (1784-1874). 162.83.181.86 (talk) 21:37, 1 August 2011 (UTC)Reply

Sources

I am suspicious of the dates in the source Astronomical Publishing in Edinburgh in the 19th Century. For example:

In 1810 his son, also called James Gall, had joined the firm but left in 1874 when he decided to pursue a career in the church.

It seems unlikely that JG jr. would join the firm at age two, work there for sixty-four years and then decide on a change of career at age sixty-six. This of course assumes the main article's dates for JG jr. are correct.

I believe both references to 1874 in that source may be transcription errors and the true dates may be 1814 or 1824.
