_ _ The recent changes to Horace Mann Bond do suggest my characterization "ordinary minor-school" may be mistaken. IMO, deletion deserves some reconsideration: the HMB pg might rightly survive as a redirect to Lincoln University (Pennsylvania), after merger of the two articles. (In that case, tho, the nascent bibliography should probably be simply discarded, and HMB's relationship to the school reworded.)
_ _ I don't find the changes to add significantly to the article as an HMB bio. --Jerzyt 18:48, 14 & 04:51, 18 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for admitting that perhaps you were somewhat "condescending" about your characterization about Lincoln University being an "ordinary minor-school".
IMO, I think you should look upon HMB being more than just JB's father. HMB's contributions to education and justice in the United States, far outweigh your characyerizations of him. Perhaps you should research HMB more that just assumptions that he was JB's father. The excerpt from "The Einstein file" supports how the "majority" in our country feel about institutions and issues they know little about, and would rather dismiss them , much like the press dismissed Albert Einstein's visit to Lincoln University. Additionally, would Swarthmore College have been treated the same as Lincoln University regarding the Barnes Foundation?
I hope I have inspired you to research topics somewhat more thoroughly before feeling their is a need to delete them. After all, Wikipedia is "suppose" to be a "public forum", to share knowledge.

_ _ (Please don't put words in my mouth: i said i was probably mistaken, and if that's what you call "condescending", you probably should avoid giving offense by using the dictionary more.)
_ _ Creating an article is an assertion of verifiable notability (or, IMO, of personal confidence that notability is verifiable -- when it's not verifiable, that usually reflects on the contributor's WP-savvy or judgement, rather than on their honesty!). Thus it's appropriate to expect the defenders of retention to bear the burden of the research. This is also of practical value, bcz the task thus falls to those with a natural motivation to do the research, and not to those without any inherant motivation to go out trying to prove a negative.
_ _ I did, however, do a tad-ule of research, with results that contribute to the case you're trying to make: Googling
"Horace Mann Bond" -wikipedia -Julian
vs
"Horace Mann Bond" -wikipedia
undercuts what i expected to find, and suggests instead that most interest in him is in contexts where the son does not bear mention.
_ _ I'd suggest the following directions re further research:
  1. Most presidents of notable schools are not notable (e.g., the only president of Carleton College whom our article cites has rd-lks for all 5 likely forms or misspellings of his name). So using that as a basis for notability of this bio, you'd probably have to show that he did more than keep LU running, and in fact more for LU than riding a wave of growth and improvement made inevitable by the expansion of higher education and of black opportunity in the last century.
  2. The Barnes and Einstein relationships don't help much. I think i share your opinion that the neglect of the Einstein talk reflects at least lack of imagination, but our opinions are just PoV, and almost by definition you can't expect established human knowledge to include recognition of such a gap in human knowledge. Also, Einstein's attempts to use his status to promote social goals are (with good reason) taken seriously only by those who already agreed with him. This & the Barnes Foundation's misadventures (including also the suit re the board & LU that you mention, which so far has some sound of LU settling for the short end) risk damning LU with faint praise, by suggesting the events where it stands out are events where celebrities may have wandered beyond their depth.
_ _ I was surprised you'd made your arguments without removing the ProD tag, and went to remove it myself, since you had raised objections sufficient to override my placement of the tag, and i didn't want it to get automatically deleted bcz i got distracted as the deadline approached. Perhaps you and User:Mangojuice (who did the ProD removal) will continue refining your arguments, to the point where there will be no need for full-scale consideration on WP:AfD.
Thanks.

"Grades higher than...white classmates" edit

Under the heading "Early life and education", it states "While taking classes at Penn State, Bond earned grades higher than those of his white classmates..." This assertion is unsourced and very weasely; how many white classmates were his grades higher than? -all of them? -two of them? Can someone clear this up? If not, the claim should be stricken.
