Talk:Heiltsuk–Oowekyala language

Comment edit

I'm assuming the obstruent word was supposed to be [t͡sʼkʼʷχtʰt͡ɬkʰt͡sʰ] and not [t͡sʼkʼʷχtʰtʰɬkʰt͡sʰ], since that gives the count of 7 consonants; please correct if not. kwami (talk) 22:48, 28 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

where in the sources is this name with an endash instead of a hyphen? edit

what's with this undiscussed move to an endash'd title from the long-standing hyphenated form seen in sources. Where are your sources, and I know all about WP:MOSHYPHEN and its cousins from the attempted imposition of the endash on regional district titles at a total waste of time (4 months maybe? felt like that) which ended with quotations form primary sources and the government's style guide. This is different because this is a linguistics term but it still looks really odd...... this and anything else like it you're planning on doing should be a discussion, not a speedy.Skookum1 (talk) 16:13, 22 March 2014 (UTC)Reply

It should be hyphen, as in the article. I got it wrong when reverting your undiscussed move, and then couldn't correct it. I didn't want to make a move request with you involved, since there'd be a good chance it would take a month to argue with you about it, but if you agree the article should be moved back to its proper punctuation (a hyphen), I'll make the request. — kwami (talk) 20:19, 22 March 2014 (UTC)Reply
Produce sources using the endash then, otherwise it should be moved back.Skookum1 (talk) 03:15, 23 March 2014 (UTC)Reply
You really don't read anything anyone else writes, do you? For all your talk about how you're a speed-reader and -writer and how others should read everything you write?
That's going in my file compiling your various abusive and derisive comments......and what I say about speed writing is a fact of life and if people don't have the patience to think about the issues and have their ears and minds open (which you obviously don't and make a point of being nasty about it, too), then they shouldn't be voting on RMs and CfDs at all; quoting guidelines out of context and claiming they say things they don't is not "the way wikipedia works"...well, unfortunately it IS, sadly.Skookum1 (talk) 15:49, 25 March 2014 (UTC)Reply
Ehm, Skookum, if you'd read that, you'd notice you two don't disagree about using a hyphen. --JorisvS (talk) 16:38, 25 March 2014 (UTC)Reply
Why are you going after me??? It's Kwami who's playing word games suggesting I might dispute this....calling white black as always. WP:MINDGAMES. Wake up.Skookum1 (talk) 16:52, 25 March 2014 (UTC)Reply
I don't know, of course, what happened exactly when Kwami moved it to use an endash, but he has said that it should use a hyphen afterwards. Use that. --JorisvS (talk) 17:19, 25 March 2014 (UTC)Reply
I was tired and wasn't paying sufficient attention when reverting Skookum's move. I'd been working with family articles which used a dash, so I used one too without thinking. When I 'fixed' the article to match, I realized my error, and removed the dashes from the article, but I wasn't able to correct the title. — kwami (talk) 21:55, 25 March 2014 (UTC)Reply
Let's try this again: If you agree with me that this is not controversial, and won't turn a request to moving it to the hyphenated form into a protracted dispute, then I will request the move myself. — kwami (talk) 21:27, 23 March 2014 (UTC)Reply
I'd say moving it as all was what was controversial, obviously, so stop playing word/mind games and start the RM.Skookum1 (talk) 15:57, 25 March 2014 (UTC)Reply
"I'd say moving it as all was what was controversial, obviously". So then why did you move it?
When you decide to stop ranting and to have a polite conversation (for instance, but actually answering my question), we can proceed. Until then I will ignore you. — kwami (talk) 21:51, 25 March 2014 (UTC)Reply
You led this off with a personal attack on me, so you're no one to talk. WHY haven't you started the RM yet? Or is WP:BAITing me too much fun?? The question you asked was a non sequitur, my position on wanting the hyphen back here is clear. The issue here is the use of the endash, not me having to answer to your allegations and imputations.Skookum1 (talk) 00:52, 26 March 2014 (UTC)Reply

The issue of sources after an official name change theoretically applies only to people names and their orgs; or does it? Wuikinuxv has now been recognized as the modern name by RM and Wuikyala is in the same form of the name; "sources" should not only be those of specialists as per indicated by TITLE; new curriculum for this language and newer specialist sources - those that are not still citing older names, as seems to be the penchant in your "profession" - will be using Wuikyala. That'll be for another RM; right now using me as an excuse, and your family, for a bad application of the endash is only so much more fingerpointing at me.Skookum1 (talk) 01:09, 26 March 2014 (UTC)Reply
