Sexual Predator/Statutory Rape ?

Unlike USA, a 30 year old person can marry to a 15 y/o child with the consent of the family. Under Turkish Law it is not child abuse or statutory rape. Please do not restore this false information. I believe that if another photo is added to the article, even if it fell within image deadlines, may overwhelm the article a bit, because it's such a small article. --I dream of horses (T) @ 00:18, 29 June 2012 (UTC)

Full Style/Madame Gül

Turkish Republic is not a monarchy hence Gül doesn't have a Full Style that should be used for addressing her. However, she received an award from Netherlands which included a title with "Her Excellency Madame Hayrünnisa Gül, First Lady of Turkey, Grand Cross of the Order of the Crown (Netherlands)". This is not her official, Turkish title. In the Presidential website, she is simply referred as Mrs. Gül or Hayrünnisa Gül(see the article for a link). As a Turkish citizen I have never heard her being referred as "Madame Hayrünnisa Gül" or anything similar. If you insist this is her title, please provide us some evidence that this title is actually used by the current First Lady, other than in relation with that award. Styles are not solely for monarchy's. Presidents also have honorifics and styles. Furthermore, Mrs. Gül's wiki profile is not restricted to her position in the Republic of Turkey only. She has now been bestowed a State decoration from the Monarch of the Netherlands. Accordingly, as per Dutch laws she is styled as "Her Excellency". Furthermore, First Ladies always are afforded the honorifics of their husbands as a Courtesy title. In accordance with international protocol an African Government website has even addressed the Turkish First Lady as Her Excellency Hayrünnisa Gül, First Lady of Turkey in its official website but the reference link was removed from here. It is no secret that Mrs. Gül has more privileges abroad than in Turkey due to her wearing the headscarf and not being afforded the respect she deserves from staunch secularists in Turkey. --115.64.4.212 (talk) 02:38, 15 October 2012 (UTC)

It seems from the references that this style is indeed used, albeit in rare occasions. However I think we should make it clear that this is not a title you are required to use, unlike, say you are referring to the Queen of England. From the references provided, it is clear that even in diplomatic situations, this is seldom used(Madame simply means Mrs. and it is not a title). What do you suggest we should do to emphasize that? Or should we?

My objection is based on the fact that it pretty much undermines the spirit of the Republic of Turkey, just like it would undermine the spirit of the United States to call the President with a royal sounding title. George Washington made it very clear that the only title he would use is Mr. President. I've never seen or heard any Turkish President, similarly, use any such title in public situations. I don't think monarchy(this is a title given by monarchy) is something to be proud of, especially someone who is the wife of a democratically elected President. You can't even find references to this award or the title in her website, which proves my suspicions that she doesn't use it. That's why I think it requires a distinction, not because I'm a "staunch secularist" who despises her. With respect Drigeolf I was not making any ad hominem attacks but rather merely stating the facts. Limited usage or lack of usage of a title does not dis-entitle the title holder. E.g. The French President is also styled as His Serene Highness the Co-Prince of Andorra but this title/style is seldom used. Also your assertion that Mrs. Gul's titles and style "pretty much undermines the spirit of the Republic of Turkey" is also immaterial. It does not change the fact that Mrs. Gul is styled as such by the Danish Royal Court.
