Moved as proposed. Our naming criteria do take into account the question of what readers are likely to be looking for, and in this case it appears that the footballer is presently more popular than all other topics combined. It might be argued that other topics are important historically, but none appears to be so important as to overwhelm the importance of the current topic. Although his circumstances may change in the future, consensus can also change when that happens. bd2412 T 23:11, 7 December 2014 (UTC)

WP:PRIMARYTOPIC. The pageview numbers show that when our readers are looking for information on "Harry Kane", this is overwhelmingly who they want. How overwhelmingly? Over the past 90 days, over 99% percent of pageviews among all four articles on a Harry Kane went to this Harry Kane. It has been viewed 281 times as often as the second-most viewed (the turn-of-the-century baseball player), and 109 times as often as the other three put together. Even the disambiguation page gets considerably more views than the articles on the other Harry Kanes, being viewed nearly 13 times as often as the baseball player and 5 times as often as the three non-football Harry Kanes put together.

Harry Kane (footballer): 98502 views
Harry Kane the disambiguation page: 4533 views
Harry Kane (baseball): 350 views
Harry Kane (hurdler): 278 views
Harry Kane (illustrator): 269 views

None of the other three Harry Kanes appear to suggest any long-term significance claims to offset the strong usage claim for primary topic. Egsan Bacon (talk) 16:37, 14 November 2014 (UTC)

  • Support – When I started this article there was no indication of how successful Kane the footballer would be, and he barely ranked alongside the other Harry Kanes. But now it's clear that the footballer is the primary topic, and if anything, he will become more notable in the future. Bretonbanquet (talk) 16:46, 14 November 2014 (UTC)
  • Support - Per nom. Makes complete sense to me... JMHamo (talk) 16:58, 14 November 2014 (UTC)
Note: This discussion has been included in WikiProject Football's list of association football-related page moves. JMHamo (talk) 17:00, 14 November 2014 (UTC)
  • Oppose - classic case of WP:RECENT, 21 year old footballer not going to be known to baseball, hurdling or illustration fans. And the primary topic in Google Books is Harry Kane, character in the Harold Pinter play The Collection (play) 1961. In ictu oculi (talk) 00:53, 15 November 2014 (UTC)
  • Support - I think it's important that we always take recentism into account, especially when it involves displacing figures that would otherwise have very high significance. However, this is a case where the page views indicate such an overwhelming primary topic of interest to the readers that we can improve navigation by making a primary topic. Reader interest when indicated at such overwhelming levels should probably not be ignored, sort of like how Paul Ryan was made the primary despite recentism concerns. And it's not like this is a case of, say, Paparazzi (Lady Gaga song) being put over Paparazzi due to page views -- none of the other topics have a particularly strong claim to overcoming this reader interest.--Yaksar (let's chat) 05:47, 15 November 2014 (UTC)
  • Oppose - I don't think page views, given his recent run-of-form, are much to go on; and his other achievements do not set him above the other Harry Kanes. Conclusion - not a PRIMARYTOPIC. GiantSnowman 09:58, 15 November 2014 (UTC)
  • Oppose - I don't see why this Harry Kane is more notable than the others. IJA (talk) 17:49, 16 November 2014 (UTC)
    That's not a reason to oppose. Unreal7 (talk) 16:19, 17 November 2014 (UTC)
@Unreal7: - This footballer has scored ten goals for Spurs so far this season and because of this he has received a lot of media attention; there has also been speculation that he could be called up to the England national football team but he was not selected in the end for last Saturday's and tomorrow's international matches. This article has had a higher than normal visitor stat due to his the recent media attention, because of this I Oppose this WP:RM per WP:RECENT as he is not the WP:PRIMARYTOPIC at this moment in time. He might be in the future, but as things stand, this isn't the case; it would be wrong to suggest that he is likely to become the Primary Topic in the future per WP:CRYSTAL. He could flop soon and work his way down the leagues and not receive much media attention ever again. Is this a reason to oppose? Regards IJA (talk) 23:59, 17 November 2014 (UTC)
Much better. Unreal7 (talk) 00:03, 18 November 2014 (UTC)
  • In doubt - I'm a man of rules, and like them to be respected. As such, the visitor stat criterion is overwhelming. But at the same time, WP:RECENT is definitely an issue as well. You throw a dog with a hat on into English football, and he'll take away the visitor stats as well. (if you're honest though, given his young age, the footballer will still be the "recent" topic for another fifteen years) Additional food for thought, what other WPs think: Q1586593 and Q969725, although that's because most WPs do not list the other namesakes. Most important issue I have with primary topics, everyone putting Harry Kane between square brackets will automatically link to the footballer, without getting a warning that may not be the person he's after. It's the main reason I have an issue with these primary topics. If only something could be done to remedy that problem. Just my thoughts... --Midas02 (talk) 13:29, 17 November 2014 (UTC)
  • Support - As displayed by the nominator, none of the other Harry Kanes are even nearly as notable as the footballer. Unreal7 (talk) 16:22, 17 November 2014 (UTC)
  • Oppose - As too soon, this player has had literally a quarter of one successful season. May be in a year or two consider WP:PRIMARY, but per WP:RECENT, let's hold fire for now. Fenix down (talk) 09:49, 18 November 2014 (UTC)
  • Oppose - The footballer has been media favourite for a short time but that does not mean he should be moved. The interest will most likely calm down (it usually does) and we will have to see in the future if the footballer is worth moving. QED237 (talk) 12:17, 18 November 2014 (UTC)
  • Support. Unnecessary to hinder the navigation of 99% of users right now when we can see what article they are looking for. If he ceases to be the primary topic due to recency abating, this can be reevaluated later, but the usage statistics are overwhelming per Egsan Bacon. Dekimasuよ! 20:45, 18 November 2014 (UTC)
  • Additional Comment: Here are the pageview stats for this article for the past two years. Dismissing reader interest as the result of a sudden interest by the media or a few good games would appear to be a mistake, as the article still gets plenty of views even when there are no games at all.

The lowest level of reader interest over the past two years was from December 2013 to February 2014, and the article was still viewed 19415 times. Again, the other three combined received a total of 897 views over the past 90 days. Even if the current interest in Harry Kane was as low as the lowest it has been in the last two years, it would still be viewed over 55 times as often as the baseball player and over 21 times as often as the other three combined. Of course, it woud not have received over 99% of the pageviews. It would, instead, have received a mere 95.6% of pageviews.
Also worth noting is that the second most viewed page, the one on Harry Kane the baseball player, is not about some star of the dead ball era, or even a journeyman. He was a player whose Major League career consisted of just 15 games over four seasons, the last of which was 1906. (MLB seasons at the time were 140 games each during his first two seasons, and 154 games each his last two.) In those 15 games, he performed poorly - below replacement level, to the extent such things can be measured over just 15 games using the statistics available from the time. To whatever extent Harry Kane the football player may or may not be known among baseball fans, it is safe to say Harry Kane the baseball player is not known among baseball fans. He's no Noodles Hahn. Egsan Bacon (talk) 18:11, 20 November 2014 (UTC)
  • Oppose. If there's a primary topic at all, it's the Pinter character by overwhelming long-term significance. But the best option is to leave as is. Wildly differing results depending on which criteria are used, as here, are an excellent indication of no primary topic. Andrewa (talk) 16:59, 23 November 2014 (UTC)
  • Support per WP:PRIMARYTOPIC. As is demonstrated above by Egsan Bacon, the article for the footballer garned significantly more views than the other Harry Kanes even before his recent high level of media attention. Mattythewhite (talk) 21:57, 23 November 2014 (UTC)
    • Comment: This appears to be an excellent illustration of why we don't rely on page views as the ultimate test of primary topic. And we don't of course. Andrewa (talk) 05:13, 30 November 2014 (UTC)
  • Support. It's as if to some people, the first criterion of WP:PRIMARYTOPIC just doesn't exist. I don't get it. Red Slash 01:15, 5 December 2014 (UTC)
  • Support. The page view evidence suggests this is far and away the primary topic in that regard. In regards to recentism and long-term significance, the fact that he has already played at a top level in soccer for several years puts him at a similar level of significance as the baseball player and hurdler, who did the same in their respective sports. I see no reason to keep readers away from what they're overwhelmingly looking for.--Cúchullain t/c 18:49, 5 December 2014 (UTC)
  • Support Yes, Kane has been the subject of increased recent attention, but it's completely reasonable to assume that he will continue to be the most-sought article of this name for years to come. Compare to Luis Suárez (RM). This could change, of course, if he suffers a career-ending injury or something, but that's WP:CRYSTAL, not assuming that current trends will continue. --BDD (talk) 20:15, 5 December 2014 (UTC)

Whoever vandalized Kane's Wikipedia page before the protective security lock was placed on it altered his England U21 appearances and goals record. It presently reads "played 12, scored 13." It should read Played 10, scored 8. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 84.9.121.156 (talk) 17:58, 14 January 2015 (UTC)

Just some smaller things to do here:

  • Generally, the article could do with some more prose that does not just say he played here, he scored there. I am aware that might be difficult for his earlier years, but at least for last season, there must be many articles on him, profiles and so forth?
  • A Personal life section is missing completely.
  • 2012-13 season: Spurs recalled him four months early, so when exactly was that? February? Should be clarified.
  • Youth teams: end of second paragraph: fine run is not NPOV.
  • Youth teams: He was called up for the 2015 Euro. And what happened there? Please expand.

That's about all I could find. Good work so far! On hold for seven days. Zwerg Nase (talk) 18:34, 23 August 2015 (UTC)

Zwerg Nase: I know you have seen issue before on articles which are too focussed on matchday details, but in this case, I think through the style of play section, one can see the evolution of Kane from an infrequent scorer who was mostly cast out on loan, and eventually the centrepiece of Tottenham and hyped-up England hopeful. As for personal life, I could have a look into that. We already have details on his childhood – albeit the parts related to football – and the fact of his Irish ancestry, I'm not sure what else to put. Most personal life sections include criminal record, famous relatives, dates, endorsements, and I'm not really sure how much of that relates to Kane. '''tAD''' (talk) 18:58, 23 August 2015 (UTC)

Zwerg Nase what to do next? RRD13 দেবজ্যোতি (talk) 07:34, 27 August 2015 (UTC)
@Royroydeb:, @The Almightey Drill: I feel that, even if just short, a personal life section should be there. There are several articles concerning it to be found (like 1, 2, 3. I know that this yellow press stuff is annoying, but well, that's the way it is, especially in the UK. Also, there are some profile pieces from his breakout period that might work to expand on both 2014-15 season and Style of play, like 1, 2 and 3. And that was just a quick search by me, I'm sure there's more. Zwerg Nase (talk) 10:21, 27 August 2015 (UTC)

@Zwerg Nase: Wow! Thanks for those resources. Not sure if I agree with the "long-term season ticket holder" that Spurs haven't had a hometown hero since the 1970s (!), one Ledley King springs immediately to mind '''tAD''' (talk) 13:52, 27 August 2015 (UTC)

@Zwerg Nase:, please have a look. RRD13 দেবজ্যোতি (talk) 11:18, 28 August 2015 (UTC)
Looks good now, congratulations, it's a pass :) Please mind though: A lot of GAs about active footballers lose their eligibility quite quickly when no-one looks after the article. It would be great if you guys keep the article on this good level. Zwerg Nase (talk) 13:03, 29 August 2015 (UTC)

Development..

I am not sure the comment that he was a back up to Soldado reflects the correct view. At the time Spurs also had Adebayor in the side, who had lost his place in the team due to disciplinary issues with the the the coach Andre Villas-Boas. AVB played Soldado as the lone striker at this time. When he was replaced by Sherwood, the first thing he did was to reinstate Adebayor as well as give Kane his chance in the team. Far from being a back-up to Soldado, Sherwood claims that Spurs wanted to send Kane out on loan yet again, but he persuaded AVB not to do this. As we know, Kane became pretty much an instant success and played every remaining game that season. Prior to becoming manager, Sherwood was the Youth development manager, and was responsible for overseeing Kane's training.

However, when Pochettino replaced Sherwood, Kane became the third choice striker behind Adebayor and Soldado, and was only given his chance by Pochettino when both these players showed poor form, while Kane was scoring consistently in the Europa League.46.7.85.68 (talk) 09:45, 24 April 2016 (UTC)

In an interview given in February 2015, Kane said that he was in a relationship with Katie Goodland, whom he has known since childhood.[180] He told Esquire magazine, "We went to school together, so she's seen my whole career. Of course, she's finding it a little crazy. I think she's even been in the papers a couple of times taking the dogs out."[148] They have two Labrador dogs Brady and Wilson, named after NFL quarterbacks Tom Brady and Russell Wilson.[181] Kane and Goodland announced the birth of their first child, Ivy Jane Kane, on 8 January 2017.[182] On 1 July, Kane announced his engagement to Goodland on his Twitter account.[183] I would like to add - In January 2018, Harry Kane announced that he and Kate are expecting their second child. Calendar Year

I don't see the significance of "calendar year" records for leagues that are not played over the course of a calendar year. It seems arbitrary. It would make sense as a way of comparing leagues that started and finished at different times of the year, however the top leagues of England, Spain, France, Germany and Italy all run from August to May, so assuming that Kane's European record relates only to those Top 5 leagues, what use is this "calendar year" stat? It is no more or less useful than tracking the top goalscorer of the financial year or any other period lasting 365 (or 366) days. --Jameboy (talk) 16:37, 14 August 2018 (UTC)

@Jameboy: I would personally agree with that, but a big thing was made of the record in the media so I think it's notable enough for inclusion. Nzd (talk) 23:34, 15 August 2018 (UTC)
@Nzd: It's difficult to argue with that. As an encyclopedia, we can only go with the sources we have, and as you say, these records were widely reported in the media. But the media often acts as something of an echo chamber, just repeating information from elsewhere without applying any critical thinking. Since I haven't found any source that brings the relevance of the calendar year records into question, there probably isn't much to be done. Oh well. --Jameboy (talk) 13:54, 16 August 2018 (UTC)

Kane's away goal and home brace against PSV in the Champions League took his Europe goals' tally to 23 , equalling Jermain Defoe's record of most European goals by a Tottenham Hotspur F.C. player. Kane's goals against PSV took his Europe goals tally to 23 , so another european goal would make him Tottenham's most prolific European goalscorer , ahead of Jermaine Defoe , who too has 23 . Stated Age Error

In second sentence of last paragraph of introduction, article states “He has appeared and scored at every youth level, and made his senior debut in March 2015 at age 22...” If subject is born on 28 July 1993, he would have been 21 in March 2015. Therefore, please change “age 22” to “age 21.” Additionally, please change listed DOB from “28 July 1993” to “27 July 1993,” according to the following g: https://www.tottenhamhotspur.com/teams/first-team/players/harry-kane/Crmaloney2 (talk) 20:36, 25 March 2019 (UTC)

@Crmaloney2: Thanks, I've fixed the age in the lead. The ref used in the body states he was 21 and this is backed up by maths. I think you must have misread the birthdate on the Spurs profile though (unless they've changed it since you posted), it definitely says 28 July 1993. Nzd (talk) 01:08, 27 March 2019 (UTC)

Thanks for assisting with the error spotting on the article. He has scored 10 goals upto October 2019.
Re "samsung keyboard does not have tildes", I would think yours would have that option. On mine, I'd found it by pressing "Sym", then "1/2" buttons then use the symbol directly below the "2" to get your character when signing. This may be different on what you're using. Harry Kane finished 10th for the Ballon d'Or in both 2017 and 2018. This used to be on his page but has since been removed. He finished as top scorer in qualifying for Euro 2020 but is not included. It seems a lot of his personal awards or placings have been taken out. Would someone be able to amend them back please? Thanks. 92.15.64.125 (talk) 18:02, 14 June 2021 (UTC)

Not done. Both seem to me to be over-specific, trivial distinctions that are not that important in the grand scheme of things. He didn't win the Ballon d'Or, and the qualifying one is a small scenario. That being said, if there is consensus for these changes, then go for it.  Ganbaruby! (talk) 18:21, 14 June 2021 (UTC)

Ireland national team eligibility error

Unlike claimed in the article, Kane was never eligible to represent Republic of Ireland. Quite possibly he could have gained such eligibility had he wanted to, but as he never applied for Irish citizenship that was never factually the case. -78.27.124.159 (talk) 09:26, 18 May 2021 (UTC)

Random 6?

I just noticed that a random "6" has been added in Kane's infobox where it says "England U20", making it "England6 U20". I believe it was added as a mistake as it seems to have been introduced in a mobile edit (the classic small phone keyboard probably struck again). It would be very appreciated if someone could edit it to remove this error (if it is an error). --CybJubal (talk) 23:08, 12 November 2021 (UTC)

Kane scored a penalty in the Euro 2020 final on 11 July 2021. This is missing from the 'List of international goals scored by Harry Kane' table. 84.71.53.116 (talk) 14:47, 29 December 2021 (UTC)

Kane scored in the penalty shoot-out, which isn't part of the match itself and therefore doesn't count towards his international goals tally. Mattythewhite (talk) 15:01, 29 December 2021 (UTC)

Partly done: I actually just removed the team names there as it's not really relevant to this article, and it'll probably be missed when their team changes (for example, it took six months for someone to update Brady's move from the Patriots to the Buccaneers). ‑‑ElHef (Meep?) 21:16, 4 April 2022 (UTC)
