According to the introduction to Serviss' novel, Edison's Conquest of Mars, A Columbus of Space was first written in 1909, not 1894, as stated in the article. The lede characterisation of Serviss as an astronomer seems inaccurate as no mention is made of any scientific work or publication on his part.
