Played for England edit

I know it's generally acknowledged on the internet that he is the first non-white player to play for England. The fact is that these were 'unofficial' England matches. As such, i don't think his 9 caps for England should be included in his infobox as it's confusing and Wikipedia should be accurate. You'll find no record of him in List of England international footballers (alphabetical) or on England Stats. At the very least a note stating these were "unofficial"? extraordinary (talk) 09:12, 2 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

Three appearances for Reading edit

He played as a guest in three wartime games for Reading. This is shown on the website"1871 the ultimate Reading F.C. website in the "where are they now" section. I have attempted to include this in his career record but seem to have made a complete pigs ear of it. Can you please put this right and tell me how to make such a change correctly? Pigs ear now fixed! ;-) extraordinary (talk) 13:28, 9 July 2009 (UTC)Reply
Oh sorry, and also how to fix it. It's not the easiest thing to figure out that infobox. Check out Template:Infobox_Football_biography_2 for more information. Essentially for the different clubs you have 'years', 'clubs' and 'caps(goals)' in this (Frank Soo) example. You'll notice in the code that these also have numbers after them, ie. years1, clubs1. So the second club a player plays for would be 2 and the third one 3 and so on. In this example i've put Reading in as club number 6. As a result you then have to knock up the numbers of all the following clubs he played for.Sorry if i've explained that really badly!! I find just having a good look at the code and seeing how it relates to the final table tends to help me. extraordinary (talk) 13:37, 9 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

I'll take a look at this one, will post review as soon as possible. Kosack (talk) 09:03, 15 December 2019 (UTC)Reply

Initial review

Infobox edit

  • Not a major issue, but is there a reason you have two refs for his full name even though there doesn't appear to be any contradictions?
Removed one.--EchetusXe 13:12, 16 December 2019 (UTC)Reply
  • Source for his height?
I cannot find one.--EchetusXe 13:12, 16 December 2019 (UTC)Reply
  • Prescot Cables are listed as a youth team but in the text it states he began his senior career with the side?
Done.--EchetusXe 13:12, 16 December 2019 (UTC)Reply

Lead edit

  • Linking Chinese but not English seems rather unnecessary. Nationalities are generally considered an WP:OVERLINK.
Done.--EchetusXe 13:12, 16 December 2019 (UTC)Reply
  • "and then was moved on to Luton Town", a little overlong perhaps. Given the later part of the sentence gives a timeframe, I don't think we need both then and was together. Reads a little clunkily I would say.
Done.--EchetusXe 13:12, 16 December 2019 (UTC)Reply
  • Any reason Djurgården aren't linked?
Done.--EchetusXe 13:12, 16 December 2019 (UTC)Reply

Early and personal life edit

  • Our own article on laundry would suggest that the British English wording would support laundrette rather than laundry?
Done.--EchetusXe 13:12, 16 December 2019 (UTC)Reply

Stoke City edit

  • The final part of this section appears unreferenced. Paragraphs shouldn't really end without a source.
Done.--EchetusXe 13:12, 16 December 2019 (UTC)Reply
  • No need to link Poland.
Done.--EchetusXe 13:12, 16 December 2019 (UTC)Reply

World War II edit

  • Same as above with the first paragraph here.
Done.--EchetusXe 13:12, 16 December 2019 (UTC)Reply
  • Add the abbreviation (RAF) after Royal Air Force to explain future uses of the shortened term.
Done.--EchetusXe 13:12, 16 December 2019 (UTC)Reply
  • "pathological dislike of star players", do we know who made this quote? It seems a little like its being stated as fact rather than an opinion.
I've changed the sentence.--EchetusXe 13:12, 16 December 2019 (UTC)Reply

Luton Town edit

  • The second half of the paragraph appears unsourced.
Done.--EchetusXe 23:54, 16 December 2019 (UTC)Reply

Chelmsford City edit

  • "Soo signed with Chelmsford City directly from Luton", is directly needed here?
Done.--EchetusXe 23:54, 16 December 2019 (UTC)Reply
  • "Kidderminster Harriers made of a bid of £1,000", doesn't quite work.
Changed.--EchetusXe 23:54, 16 December 2019 (UTC)Reply
  • "City finished in fourth-place position", position isn't really necessary here, fourth-place is perfectly explanatory I would say.
Done.--EchetusXe 23:54, 16 December 2019 (UTC)Reply
  • Again, could do with a ref for the end of the section.
Done. Weird habit I developed.--EchetusXe 23:54, 16 December 2019 (UTC)Reply

Managerial statistics edit

  • As obvious as it is, the table could do with a total.
Done.--EchetusXe 23:54, 16 December 2019 (UTC)Reply

References edit

  • Refs 1 and 2 appear to have expired.
Changed.--EchetusXe 23:54, 16 December 2019 (UTC)Reply
  • Ref 23 has an available author.
Done.--EchetusXe 23:54, 16 December 2019 (UTC)Reply
    • The rsssf sites have available authors at the bottom of the page, in these cases it's Barrie Courtney, not the actual website. Also your new rsssf addition uses a slightly different format of web address, the use of www., it would be better to stick to one style for consistency. Kosack (talk) 06:57, 17 December 2019 (UTC)Reply
  • Ref 24 needs filling out, publisher, accessdate etc. Is the site a reliable source as well?
Done. Yes it is.--EchetusXe 23:54, 16 December 2019 (UTC)Reply
This ref doesn't appear to have changed? Kosack (talk) 06:57, 17 December 2019 (UTC)Reply
I've changed the source now.--EchetusXe 23:52, 23 December 2019 (UTC)Reply
  • Refs 44 and 50 require an accessdate.
Done.--EchetusXe 23:54, 16 December 2019 (UTC)Reply
No change made to 44 (now 48)? Kosack (talk) 06:57, 17 December 2019 (UTC)Reply
I've removed that line now, I can't access the source to check it.--EchetusXe 23:52, 23 December 2019 (UTC)Reply
  • Ref 51 appears to have expired (the joy of FIFA's ever moving web pages).
Seems fine?.--EchetusXe 23:54, 16 December 2019 (UTC)Reply
It's not working for me still, I'll try it from a desktop when I get to work later, see if that makes a difference. Kosack (talk) 06:57, 17 December 2019 (UTC)Reply
Working for me from a desktop, seems the issue is just with mobile. Kosack (talk) 13:21, 17 December 2019 (UTC)Reply
  • Ref 54 needs a publisher and the title should avoid using WP:ALLCAPS.
Done.--EchetusXe 23:54, 16 December 2019 (UTC)Reply

Overall, this is a high quality piece of work. A few minor issues to address, so placed on hold for now. Kosack (talk) 14:57, 15 December 2019 (UTC)Reply

Okay I've acted on those, thanks very much for the review!--EchetusXe 23:54, 16 December 2019 (UTC)Reply
@EchetusXe: Add a ping incase you missed my follow up comments on the refs. Kosack (talk) 08:03, 22 December 2019 (UTC)Reply
@Kosack: Okay thanks.--EchetusXe 23:52, 23 December 2019 (UTC)Reply
@EchetusXe: The only thing I would add is that the height should really be removed if we have no source for it. I can't find any anything to support this in a search so it seems rather unfounded. Other than that, I'll be happy to promote this. Kosack (talk) 19:45, 28 December 2019 (UTC)Reply
@Kosack: Okay excellent, I've removed the height. Thanks for your work.--EchetusXe 17:12, 29 December 2019 (UTC)Reply
No worries, well done on the article. I'm happy this meets the relevant GA criteria. Promoting. Kosack (talk) 07:40, 30 December 2019 (UTC)Reply
