Background edit

See preliminary discussion at Wikipedia talk:Manual of Style/Capital letters#Revisiting this discussion (Campaign vs. campaign).

See book n-gram stats here, which show mostly lowercase "encirclement campaign" in these contexts. Dicklyon (talk) 00:50, 20 August 2019 (UTC)Reply

Inserted "the" in a few where it's missing (the Jiangxi Soviet, mostly). The en-dash issue will be considered later. Moving to the hyphen form first guarantees the right redirects at least.

Looks like I missed a few, listed at Encirclement_campaigns#Encirclement_Campaigns_by_location. Those should be even more clear with the plurals. Dicklyon (talk) 15:17, 20 August 2019 (UTC)Reply

  • As nom, I obviously support this. It's OK if nobody else has an opinion, but if you do, please say so here. Dicklyon (talk) 19:35, 21 August 2019 (UTC)Reply
  • Support. Nom's research appears to show agreement with our Manual of Style, so lc all. Paine Ellsworthed. put'r there  05:22, 22 August 2019 (UTC)Reply
