Article featured in YouTube Video edit

this article featured in this[1] video - it was described as the only "disguised orphan dead-end" page on wikipedia. Maybe there will be some extra traffic? Jhadden23 (talk) 23:23, 1 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

Although, it has been edited so it no longer has this elevated status Jhadden23 (talk) 23:25, 1 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

Also coming from the video. Has anyone got a nicer photo? What's with the half-eaten mess? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.15.194.12 (talk) 04:37, 4 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

Ill try baking a better one, taking a photo and providing it for future fanta cake enjoyers 2003:DF:8728:5BFD:94E7:9B6E:C7D5:AE43 (talk) 12:54, 9 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

Yes, I agree. I believe this article needs a nicer photo. I think an improved photo would provide Fanta cake with a better representation. In addition to this, maybe this article could be expanded with an additional section? Perhaps the origin/history of the Fanta cake? Argronvall (talk) 14:09, 4 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

Article has been completely linked out since being mentioned in the video. Bobherry Talk My Edits 19:11, 6 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

I totally agree with it as the picture looks very unappealing and not really related with the article even though the topic is very interesting. Mokshita jain (talk) 21:41, 8 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

We need to make sure any links added are appropriate. I get the sudden interest in the article, and there are a number of appropriate links to be added, but "creamy" linking to "cream" is not appropriate (creamy is a description of the texture of the layer, and the sentence says shortly after "sour cream" and "whipped cream" which links to the appropriate creams, likewise linking "fluffier" to "proofing (baking technique)" is inappropriate, as it doesn't contain yeast, therefore is not proved). Also changed "sparkling mineral water" to link to carbonated water, as it's slightly more appropriate than spring water in this context. 2A02:C7C:C4CD:A500:643A:F73E:987:8102 (talk) 12:05, 9 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

Added a free image from [2]http://www.oana-camacho-recipes.com/2013/03/prajitura-fanta-fanta-cake.html. Should provide a higher-quality representation of Fanta Cake. Feel free to replace the image if needed and with a good reason. ~~mAyLiNgOeEd (Talk to me!) (My contributions to Wikipedia📜) 23:34, 9 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

I find it interesting that the original version of the article was not a "dead end" page since it linked to both Germany and Fanta. Sure, it was probably an "orphan" page, but not an "orphan dead end" page. And clearly not a "disguised orphan dead-end" page. Steinninn 07:24, 10 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Fanta_cake&oldid=1200157084 - at this point (presumably when the data was gathered) it did not. 2A02:C7C:C4CD:A500:D182:65B4:170E:3309 (talk) 08:58, 10 April 2024 (UTC)Reply
Yes, someone removed all the links. I should have said "first version", not "original version". Steinninn 11:12, 10 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

As someone who has done some work for some time on the Dutch Wikipedia and seeing people vandalize an article just because of a YouTube video really disappoints me. Not surprised, just disappointed that humanity is like this. Great job keeping everything in check guys! Wikidrinker (talk) 18:57, 11 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

@Wikidrinker - Don't be "disappointed in humanity". The vandals are only a very small minority of the editors to this article recently. A few other people have misplaced but good-intentioned edits, and some others have done really useful edits to bring this article all the way from start class, to stub, and now beyond a stub in just a few days! Undoubtedly, all of whom have been brought here as a result of that YouTube video (either seeing it, or seeing the commotion it caused). 2A02:C7C:C4CD:A500:C85B:5BC:D08C:4157 (talk) 10:59, 13 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

well, to be truthful, as someone who used dto do this, we aren't trying to just ruin it. I personally just wanted to add a neat piece of trivia. Im sorry, but please dont be sad about humanity as a whole. We had good intentions

Similarity with cheesecake edit

The picture looks virtually identical to cheesecake. Doesn't the similarity warrant mention? A short section comparing and contrasting them would be fitting. Bearsca (talk) 18:39, 9 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

The similarity warrants a mention if a WP:RS mentions the similarity. Notability requires verifiable evidence. AquitaneHungerForce (talk) 19:02, 9 April 2024 (UTC)Reply
By the sounds of it, it's not always similar to cheesecake as a few varieties exist, it could simply be the fanta cake sponge, and then a glaze on the top. 2A02:C7C:C4CD:A500:D182:65B4:170E:3309 (talk) 08:55, 10 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

Vandalism edit

I never expected this page to have so much traffic, why is that? Formerlychucks (talk) 03:19, 12 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

It's due to the YouTube video discussed above. It has attracted a lot of visits from people who don't typically edit. RL0919 (talk) 04:31, 12 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

"Spritekuchen" edit

Digging through google results brought up an 8 year old Reddit thread, and one comment from someone in Cologne mentions "Spritekuchen", a similar cake using Sprite. https://www.reddit.com/r/todayilearned/comments/3j7w3i/til_of_fantakuchen_a_popular_cake_in_germany_made/ Recipes for it do appear to exist. https://www.chefkoch.de/rezepte/526231149060713/Spritekuchen.html (german) https://www.diehexenkueche.de/limokuchen/#google_vignette (german - mentions generally 'soda cake' with reference to a few)

Given the semi-protection I can't make more additions at the moment, but I don't know if someone else wants to give a mention to this? 2A02:C7C:C4CD:A500:C85B:5BC:D08C:4157 (talk) 11:15, 13 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

Reddit is not a reliable source per WP:RSREDDIT. signed, Willondon (talk) 22:00, 13 April 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Willondon you made the right call reverting that. My mention of Reddit was simply providing the process which I followed to find these additional sources.
Might I however suggest adding in one or both of the latter two sources to mention that the cake may be called "Spritekuchen" when made with sprite or "Limokuchen" when made with other carbonated beverages.
There are also plentiful other sources for the two names (Google either, and it'll bring up lots of results, Berliner Kurier has a story mentioning both names - https://www.berliner-kurier.de/rezepte/geniales-rezept-suess-und-saftig-kennen-sie-sprite-kuchen-und-limo-kuchen-li.361158, Brigitte also mentions Limo-Kuchen - https://www.brigitte.de/rezepte/limo-kuchen-mit-schokolinsen-10548072.html).
Limokuchen in particular is probably the most useful of the two to mention, as although both produce plentiful results, Limokuchen seems to be the generic name for it, both used when reference to a specific brand (ie Fanta) is avoided, and for talking about such cakes using any flavour of fizzy drink (even though Fanta/orangeade appears to be the primary/original one used). 2A02:C7C:C4CD:A500:48BD:3BC4:3A5A:93B8 (talk) 23:54, 13 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

Spelling edit

Could anyone explain to me why Fantakuchen is correct and Fanta-Kuchen isn't? Not to be mean, I study German and I'm honestly curious. LorenzoF06 (talk) 19:14, 20 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

it isnt, who said that it even was? Formerlychucks (talk) 16:34, 1 May 2024 (UTC)Reply
It's not really "incorrect", but it wouldn't be a typical use of the hyphen in German. While it can be included into any compound word in theory, it is usually used to avoid ambiguous compounds, ease out overly complex compounds or other specific reasons in grammar. "Fantakuchen" is a pretty simple word, writing "Fanta-Kuchen" would slightly irritate a reader, perhaps wondering why the "Fanta" is emphasized. 2003:C6:B70E:6000:39C1:CE68:3A2B:847F (talk) 00:44, 2 May 2024 (UTC)Reply

similarity to water pie edit

I haven't gone looking too in depth but this recipe has a similarity to water pie, which was developed in the great depression. Reconrabbit 11:21, 24 April 2024 (UTC)Reply
