Tidy and Clean-up edit

I have grown up with Emley Moor and don't think that his page does it justice, so I am requesting a tidy up and expansion. What does everyone else think?!--Screen42 23:15, 24 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Now partly complete. Looks better don't ya think!--Screen42 00:06, 25 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Good work.   The only thing I had to change was the lead section, which according to Wikipedia:Lead section doesn't have an header. --tgheretford (talk) 08:04, 25 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Cheers for the award! I'll do some more when I have time. There was 15 minute programme on BBC 2 a few years ago about it. It had a poem by Simon Armitage about the tower. Thanks again--Screen42 11:13, 25 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

DAB Multiplex edit

I suspect that Emley Moor also broadcasts the DAB multiplex MXR Yorkshire

Indeed it does according to this page, if you navigate down to the Yorkshire section of the Regional Ensembles page: [1]. It also broadcasts from a number of other sites as well. Sonic 16:03, 28 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

collapse edit

i remember the mast falling down when i was a kid and being rebuilt. shouldn't that be in the article —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 81.102.96.237 (talk) 08:30, 23 September 2006 (UTC).Reply

Yes, there is a little bit about the collapse, but I believe it could have its own section. If I am not busy, I'll add a bit to the article later this afternoon. --tgheretford (talk) 09:57, 23 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
Well, they didn't, so I did. --216.239.55.7 20:03, 9 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Trivia ? edit

This area has always been important for RF (Radio frequency) transmission and from the foot of Emley's structure both Holme Moss and the Moorside Edge Transmitter are visible. Both of the latter are within ten miles (16 km) radius and are SW and WNW respectively.

The above comment has been relegated to the "Trivia" section of the page, but I have to say I don`t think it is just trivia. Emley Moor (or the other two TXs come to that) wouldn`t even be were it is were it not for this "little" fact.--JustinSmith (talk) 13:14, 24 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

History conflicts edit

The history section contradicts itself (about the dates..).

I'll look into it when I get a chance, unless anyone else does..? Willplatts (talk) 23:15, 14 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

grid reference edit

Not sure about this but I put the grid reference (SE222128) into google maps and it returns Caradon hill transmission tower. Not sure how would work out the correct one but if any does know would be good to fix this. ny156uk (talk) 22:43, 26 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

I've changed it to the one listed here (http://toolserver.org/~geohack/geohack.php?pagename=Emley_Moor_transmitting_station&params=53_36_43_N_1_39_52_W_type:landmark) but when I search in google for that one it doesn't go to any place on a map so not certain it is accurate. ny156uk (talk) 22:47, 26 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

It's smack in the middle of the base of the transmitter. :) Richard Harvey (talk) 10:14, 27 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

page move edit

A little knowledge is a dangerous thing. So please don't move an article which has been around for a long time to an inaccurate title without seeking consensus here first. This article is about the whole transmitting station, not just its most visible component. (Clue: all those other buildings on the site are as much part of the station as the tower.)

My apologies if I've used the wrong method to restore the article to its status quo version. It was a pain because it wouldn't move because of the redirect. It may need ad admin to sort out the mess. Guess what - computers suck.--Harumphy (talk) 09:44, 1 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

New Generation section edit

Can anybody stand up the claims made in the "New Generation" section? I find what is suggested there hard to believe, with the Channel 3 and Channel 10 references both here and in the info box presumably meaning VHF channels which haven't been used for TV broadcasts since the 80s. Stevebentley (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 21:39, 13 December 2011 (UTC).Reply

I certainly couldn't find any references to confirm the unsourced info. Additionally; whether or not YTV and Granada are joining forces is irrelevant to this article, which is about the tower, not the TV companies. Fortunately the section has already been deleted from the article by another editor. Richard Harvey (talk) 23:20, 13 December 2011 (UTC)Reply
YTV and Granada joined forces years ago, Granada bought YTV plus many others, which then merged with Carlton, of which we have ITV plc today. However, Granada was broadcast from Emley Moor before YTV came into being. -- [[ axg ◉ talk ]] 10:20, 14 December 2011 (UTC)Reply

Observation area, or lack of edit

I have modified "There is an observation area off the main road that runs past it." (to say "There was an observation area off the main road that runs past it, but as of 25 February 2018, this seems to be closed.") in the "Structure" section because:
