Дьячок, уменьшительное от дьяк, диакон - название лиц, не входящих всостав церковной иерархии, но поставленных на церк. служение (у грековanagnvsthV - чтец и yalthV - певец). Так как чтецы и певцы носят одну иту же богослужебную одежду с дьяконами - стихарь, то их моглипервоначально называть одним и тем же именем; когда же нужно былодиакона отличить от чтецов и певцов, то к слову дьяк прибавляли титул"огарный". В древнее время у нас в России Д., по самой своей должностилюди грамотные, соединяли со своим церковным званием обязанностиписарей; потом дьяками начали называть вообще писарей и приказныхчиновников. С 1868 г., когда церковнослужители перестали составлятьчасть духовного сословия, место Д. заступили псаломщики; права прежнегодуховного состояния сохранены были только за теми Д., которые служилипри церквах до 1868 г.

Dyachok → Diachok – WP:COMMONNAME per Google Books Ngram, and consistency with etymologically related diak. Also corresponds to modified Library of Congress romanization predominant in academic and popular-academic publications. —Michael Z. 18:44, 6 January 2023 (UTC)
