Spelling of Defence/Defense edit

Not sure how the Israeli government spells it, but the British Mandate would have spelled it Defence. As this is a proper name, this should be changed to the British English spelling where relevant (ie when the British Mandate's Defence (Emergency) Regulations are being referred to) in the article. 81.157.197.64 14:17, 26 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Agreed. Israel uses US spelling, whereas Britain uses English. I'll move them now. Chase me ladies, I'm the Cavalry 16:35, 26 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

The Regulations (which were in very large part the UK Defence Regulations of 1939-45) were enacted by the UK authorities, so the spelling is 'Defence' not 'Defense'. The use of UK English at some points, US English at others, in this article is inconsistent. See Wikipedia:Manual_of_Style#National_varieties_of_English. ariwara 18:07, 26 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Copyright compliance edit

A case was brought against this article at WP:Copyright problems on account of too-close following of a few of its sources. I believe that I have rewritten, deleted, or alternately sourced all the problematic passages, and I also introduced a little new material. The article still needs quite a lot of work to bring it up to adequate standards regarding the post-1967 timeframe. Zerotalk 14:02, 10 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

Amendments edit

This is a start at a complete list of amendments. I'm not sure if this is a good idea, but here goes. If you have more, please join in. In all cases, publication was in Supplement No. 2 of the Palestine Gazette. Zerotalk 08:52, 21 February 2014 (UTC)Reply

Or you really believe Chaim Herzog was a High Commissioner for Palestine and Transjordan and not a President of Israel?

Palestine (Defence) Order in Council, 1937. edit

As with most (all?) Orders in Council made in relation to Palestine, this was not passed by the British government. It was a direct order of the British monarch "by virtue of the powers in this behalf by the Foreign Jurisdiction Act, 1890". This is clearly stated in the Palestine Gazette where the Order is printed (Suppl No. 2 to the Palestine Gazette Extraordinary No. 675 or 24th March, 1937). Zerotalk 08:50, 18 March 2020 (UTC)Reply
