Image deleting

edit

Why was the image deleted without any discussion here or on the image itself? There 2 comments, 1 for and 1 against. hardly grounds for outright deletion. From the main page its fair to remove whats controversial, but hardly on her page where the discussion is ongoing? Lihaas (talk) 16:22, 14 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

well the person who deleted it, said something about copyright issues--Wikiscribe (talk) 16:32, 14 July 2008 (UTC)Reply
A photo of a living person has to be free use (see Wikipedia:Copyrights and Wikipedia:Images). There doesn't seem to be a free one available. Maybe try begging everyone on Flickr or something? Richard001 (talk) 21:18, 14 July 2008 (UTC)Reply
But thats what the discussion was about. Lihaas (talk) 22:30, 14 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

The image Image:Dayana Mendoza.jpg was at Commons, and was deleted by Collard. The discussion is here. Richard001 (talk) 03:46, 15 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

The new pic has veeb reverted twice by the user "Kanabekobaton." I just saw his discussion page and it seems he has a history of doing this. I don't know if its best to lock, or semi-lock, this page. Lihaas (talk) 23:55, 20 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

This Picture is not aesthetically pleasing and questions her merit in winning the Miss Universe Pageant. May I recommend DayanaMenWorld.jpg, from my personal work and uploaded on the commons? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Elgordo3 (talkcontribs)

Miss Venezuela/Miss Universe

edit

Surely we have to write somewhere in her page saying that she is an id!ot, r3t@rd3d to say the least. Who would gave such poorly thought of, tasteless comment regarding her visit to Guantanamo. More proof that the contest is (generally) for r3t@rds in nice skin. (The word r3tard does not equal mentally challenged). —Preceding unsigned comment added by 137.222.233.178 (talk) 21:35, 1 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

It would appear that someone added the phrase "including runners-up Miss Colombia Taliana Vargas and Miss Dominican Republic Marianne Cruz Gonzalez" to the first sentence of graf 2, possibly after Dayana won Miss Universe; however, if I'm not mistaken, Colombia and the Dominican Republic are separate countries from Venezuela, so it would be quite unusual for them to compete in the Miss Venezuela contest. Can someone with more knowledge on the subject please either enlighten me or fix the error? Woodnwheel (talk) 12:51, 15 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Valid point, i've not corrected that on the page. Miss Colombia won the Miss Colombia pageant obviously ;) Lihaas (talk) 16:26, 15 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Amazonas

edit

There is a comment on the page about Mendoza being "only the second woman representing the Amazonas state to win (the first being Carolina Izsak in 1991)." These are from the Miss Venezuela page where there is appropriate citation already. There is an easy link from this page to the next, and by cutting down down on redundant citations it makes the page shorter and less messy. Down go get me wrong, 1 citation doesn't matter, but if this was to be followed there would be a lot of citations for the smallest things. Lihaas (talk) 18:27, 16 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

None of the sources provided in Miss Venezuela support the claim that Mendoza is "only the second woman representing the Amazonas state to win (the first being Carolina Izsak in 1991)." In fact, that article is woefully under-sourced as well. There is not even a source that specifically states that Izsak was the first woman representing the Amazonas state to win. Referring to a synthesized article to support a synthesized fact is unacceptable. --Evb-wiki (talk) 22:14, 16 July 2008 (UTC)Reply
Not to doubt sincerity, but I know you haven't been through all the sources because I specifically went to find if the source was there for this and I did find it. It was a little hard (do you speak spanish?) b/c of the language but I found a source that listed the miss venezuela winners according to the region they won from. Lihaas (talk) 22:34, 16 July 2008 (UTC)Reply
I only speak a little Spanish, so maybe I missed it. Would you mind identifying which source it is that you are referring to? --Evb-wiki (talk) 01:04, 17 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Yep, I could go over it. I just came on for a sec to check my email now, but if your not in a hurry i'll do it in a day or 2. Lihaas (talk) 01:10, 17 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

That's fine. I'll just replace the {{Fact}} tag, lest you forget. Besides, if I can't find it, and it takes you more than a minute or two, then other readers won't readily be able to find the source either. --Evb-wiki (talk) 15:43, 17 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Irrelevant

edit

The last paragraph is rather irrelevant to Mendoza's page. It makes more sense on the Miss Universe 2008 or Miss Venezuela page. The last sentence maybe okay, but if we remove the 1st then the 2nd should be merged with another para. Lihaas (talk) 05:17, 23 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Credibility of source/article

edit

It appears that this article was basically a copy-paste of the website http://www.123allcelebs.com/biography_of_dayana_mendoza-212_eng.html Now is this website credible? Going by the general outline, it looks like a web log, and then unreputable by wiki standards. At any rate, as a direct lift this article may need to be re-written. what does miss usa and miss teen usa have to do with Mendoza?

edit

In response to this edit: http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Dayana_Mendoza&diff=233161592&oldid=233160979 1. Cite your source when making the edit in question. (It's not in the article) 2. If you want to use their personal connection then write in the article they are room-mates for a year, instead at the bottom of the page. ("Miss Venezuela winners in the Grand Slam pageants" is more appropriate because she was in the Miss Venezuela pageant) Above all, Miss Teen USA and Miss USA are not Miss Venezuela, or in this case Miss Universe either. If you want to draw the parallel you are perfectly right to do so on the Miss Universe Organization page. Lihaas (talk) 18:59, 22 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

  • It don't need source because as you can see that since 1983 to now; Miss Universe, Miss USA and Miss Ten USA are all in the same Organization. You could read any pages of any former winners from these pageants. There is no reason to delete the template of 3 winners of Miss Universe Organization (2008) which included: Dayana Mendoza, Crystle Stewart and Stevi Perry. You should stop do it again. And if you want a source, sho here is it: [1][2][3]. If you want so you could leave your questions to other members of Wikipedia:WikiProject Beauty Pageants who interested in Miss Universe pageants.

Pardon me but the reference #26 does not mention at all what the president (Chavez) said about her so I would believe that somebody should either fix it and put in a different reference or erase what the article says about the Venezuelan president's comment.   Efraindjc - Talk to me 04:59, 13 January 2013 (UTC)Reply
