Literal meaning edit

What is the literal meaning? Badagnani 08:07, 3 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

It's apparently from a plant called "참취", true chwi, but I don't know what chwi means. --Kjoonlee 20:56, 4 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

Can you find out? It would be good to know. Badagnani 20:58, 4 November 2007 (UTC) Does this help?Reply

Since the dictionary doesn't include Hanja for 취나물, I guess we can assume 취 is a native word (or morpheme) for 참취 and related plants. --Kjoonlee 21:03, 4 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

What is the genus/species of 참취? Is it Aster? Badagnani 21:07, 4 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

According to The National Academy of Korean Language, [1], the term was originated from an ancient word referring to chaeso (채소, vegetables), or namul and there is no evidence that chwi was originated from hanja terms like chae (채 菜), or chwi (취 臭). Chwi is a kind of chrysanthemum and Korean native chwi are over 100. Edible chi namul are also over 60 species but among them only 10 are commonly eaten as chwinamul such as gomchwi, chamchwi, surichwi, etc. --Appletrees 21:20, 4 November 2007 (UTC)Reply
Badagnani, you're right. Chwinamul is one of Aster scaber under Aster. [2] --Appletrees 21:26, 4 November 2007 (UTC)Reply
