The "CM" in CM Punk

I'm sure this has been brought up a ton of times before but I've found this site that says in an interview at an AIDS conference that he told the crowd that the "CM" stands for Cookie Master. The exact address is http://www.wrestlezone.com/article.php?articleid=199502441 I don't know how reliable you all would consider this site though. I just figured I could try and help out. Stillboy2191 (talk) 04:26, 13 December 2007 (UTC)

It's been added as part of the references in CM Punk#Gimmick to the CM section. –– Lid(Talk) 05:07, 13 December 2007 (UTC)
He said in the issue of WWE Magazine with himself on the cover (I think it was a October issue) that if you look at his moonsaults they're crooked so the CM stands for Crooked Moonsault and also can stand for Cookie Master. WeLsHy (talk) 01:43, 17 December 2007 (UTC)
Punk has given varying answers for what the CM stands for. At one time it was that he was in a tag team where they had CM :Chick Magnet, he has also said the Crooked Moonsault and Cookie Monster, Other times he said while growing up that he was a Crazy Mother----. So it seems he changes his answer occasionally. RavynChloe 11:34, 13 January 2008 (UTC)
He also said it was named after a character in the Simpsons. Feedback 19:28, 13 January 2008 (UTC)
Someone told me "C" stands for Chicago (his birthplace) but didn't know what the "M" is for. Feral Mind (talk) 10:55, 1 April 2008 (UTC)
We also should add that he joked about CM standing for "crazy mariachi" --195.22.191.4 (talk) 15:31, 28 April 2008 (UTC)
Actually in WWE magazine (March '09) he reveals it to be Chicago Made. --OvErUnDeRtAkEr (talk) 00:53, 11 February 2009 (UTC)
Just another answer, Punk himself has given many explanations in the past. I wouldn't consider that any more or less official than the others. TJ Spyke 00:59, 11 February 2009 (UTC)
It stood for Chick Magnet when he was in a backyard wrestling promotion, Lunatic Wrestling Federation. He was one half of he tag team the chick magnets. There was Chick magnet Punk and Chick Magnet Venom. But I don't remember who the CM Venom caracter is.--Bradleyhess (talk) 03:26, 11 December 2010 (UTC)

Religion

This article has him tagged under the American atheists category, i can find nothing that says he is an atheist. Somebody needs to find a source or remove him from the category

He states "there is no God" on his livejournal, makes reference to it on his website in the Ask Punk section, references it again in the shoot with Samoa Joe, referred to as atheist in Punk v Hero TLC match, a fair few early ROH appearances... these are off the top of my head but I can look in the archive for a listing I made a while back. –– Lid(Talk) 22:43, 23 July 2008 (UTC)

what did he say in the shoot interview about being athiest. I remember seeing him point to heaven after the whole chris benoit tragedy when he won th enumbe rone contender so I really dont know anymore. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Malone89 (talkcontribs) 06:48, 4 February 2009 (UTC)

I don't think he's an atheist. According to wikiquote, he had ever say "God forbid if you have your face painted". Beside, he grows his hair and beard long and it was said to be an allusion to Christian view of Jesus. If he doesn't believe in God, why is he bother to allude Jesus.--60.49.80.165 (talk) 12:16, 15 March 2010 (UTC)
Many quotes here [1]
""There is no god, and the cage wasn't 30 feet." - CM Punk "
"Oh yeah, and Kevin? You're the one who protects me, not God (who doesn't even exist), so do your ****ing job, we can't afford to get injured on the road like that you douche."

Apparently he has religious tattoos for the sake of "irony." — Preceding unsigned comment added by 173.20.243.213 (talk) 00:13, 29 March 2012 (UTC)

Here's the actual livejournal quote where he sounds like an atheist:

A lifestyle he "claims to follow?"

The lead was changed, referring to straight edge as "a lifestyle he follows in real life" to "a lifestyle he claims to follow in real life" a little over a month ago by an anon with no edit summary. Suggesting that he simply pays lip service to straight edge is highly contentious and needs to be sourced. The source that follows the statement was unchanged by the edit. Either this statement needs to be changed or, if there is indeed evidence that Punk is not really straight edge, it should be added and sourced like crazy. I don't follow wrestling as closely as I used to, so maybe it's out there, but it's not in the article. Remember folks, this is a BLP. Nosleep break my slumber 04:47, 1 September 2009 (UTC)

cerebral palsy

To whom it may concern,

In the section of this article WWE Champion article states (Punk appeared at July 23's All American Wrestling show, showing respect to Gregory Iron, a wrestler who had overcome cerebral palsy) Sorry put this needs too be edited you never overcome cerebral palsy i know first hand i have had cerebral palsy sinse birth and the disability you never overcome. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.128.172.157 (talk) 18:44, 26 July 2011 (UTC)

Agreed, it should be changed to better reflect how Gregory Iron has succeeded at becoming a wrestler while living with the disability, not "overcoming" it. --FLStyle (talk) 21:09, 27 July 2011 (UTC)

Disagree. If you manage to still live your life and follow what you want to do despite having cerebral palsy you have indeed overcome it, such as people do all the time with other various aliments and issues. With all due respect to the above, just because you have cerebral palsy does not mean you can and do speak for others with it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.205.57.121 (talk) 11:19, 26 March 2012 (UTC)

MMA stuff

@InedibleHulk: and @Shrine Maiden: - what's going on here? Maiden admits There's not much to write about his "MMA career" now anyway - and we have three whole paragraphs - what? Doesn't matter who challenged him unless there's a scheduled fight. Criticism of UFC is for the UFC article. It's not for Punk's. We need to cut these unneeded speculation and irrelevant information - the "week-by-week" as you know it, Hulk. I've hidden the extra stuff pending starship.paint ~ regal 09:52, 7 December 2014 (UTC)

What's with "admits"? I did not commit a crime or anything, I don't have to "admit" anything. The stuffs I write are cited, and they are all related to the signing of CM Punk. MMAjunkie is a reliable enough source. Don't go deleting it just because you don't like it. Shrine Maiden 10:04, 7 December 2014 (UTC)
@Starship.paint:And yes, there's only 3 paragraphs, compared to those 3000 paragraphs about his WWE career. Shrine Maiden 10:15, 7 December 2014 (UTC)
  • Here's what actually happened. 1) He signed. 2) Nothing else. No specific debut date than year, no debut fight, no confirmation of anything. Seriously. Let's stick to the facts. This is a featured article, supposed to have high quality. starship.paint ~ regal 09:57, 7 December 2014 (UTC)
Who made the rule of 1) He signed. 2) Nothing else. ?? I'll tell you what else happened: UFC President talked to the press about the signing of CM Punk, other MMA fighters reacted to the signing of CM Punk. Why can't they be in the article? Shrine Maiden 10:06, 7 December 2014 (UTC)
@Shrine Maiden: - we don't parrot everything that a reliable source says. We are an encyclopedia - we have standards and only should include the most relevant information from WP:RS. According to Wikipedia:Reliable sources/Noticeboard/Archive 141#MMA reliability - Bleacher Report is unreliable (no editorial oversight) - and MMAJunkie has seen some opposition as a reliable source. You've already reverted me twice, warning you to not exceed WP:3RR. You've introduced WP:OR into the article here, demonstrating that you've not read the article - the source says We’ll put him against someone who’s 1-1, 2-1 or something like that and you inserted he's facing a (0-0) person. Askren and Fowlkes were commenting on UFC instead of Punk. starship.paint ~ regal 10:28, 7 December 2014 (UTC)
@Starship.paint:Ugh... it's you who did not read the article. Last line: "CM Punk, we would bring him in just like any regular fighter, and he would fight a guy with a similar record to his, which is 0-0." - UFC President Dana White. source So read before accusing me of inserting WP:OR, pal. Shrine Maiden 10:33, 7 December 2014 (UTC)
And those guys were directly commenting about the signing of CM Punk and the reason behind it, to which UFC President responded, admitting that one of the reasons Punk was signed is because he will sell PPV tickets. It's not unrelated. Askren also called Punk "a fake wrestler", pretty much commenting about CM Punk. Shrine Maiden 10:35, 7 December 2014 (UTC)
Fine, I didn't read the last line, but the source, White definitely says as well at We’ll put him against someone who’s 1-1, 2-1 or something like that - tenth paragraph. You see? That's the problem. Even Dana White is contradicting himself because nothing is confirmed yet. Let's wait for his first scheduled opponent and date for fight to come out, then we post on Wikipedia. Askren is criticizing UFC more than Punk, but if we're including Askren we open the door to include everyone else like the guy who said "Why?" and Ronda Rousey as well. We have to draw the line somewhere. starship.paint ~ regal 10:41, 7 December 2014 (UTC)
Similar to 0-0, not "exact same" to 0-0. The key word is "similar", hence it can be 1-0 guy, 0-1 guy.. guys who are rookies. Right now his first fight is NOT announced, so what UFC president says about it should be in the article. Why are you so against it? Shrine Maiden 10:47, 7 December 2014 (UTC)
@Starship.paint:Draw the line behind Askren, please. Shrine Maiden 10:50, 7 December 2014 (UTC)

My trim

First, let me state - WP:BLP applies to CM Punk. The burden of evidence rests with the editor who adds or restores material. - the burden of proof is on those who wish to retain, restore, or undelete the disputed material. - If it is to be restored without significant change, consensus must be obtained first. In this case, @Shrine Maiden: is adding the information.

  • Let's see the contradictions / disputed info currently present in the article. 1) He "signed a multi-fight contract" but according to Dana White: He could be one and done, or he could have a career here. I don’t know. We’ll see. So, let's not mention a multi-fight contract. 2) He "was quickly challenged by several UFC veterans on Twitter", but according to Dana White, Punk is going to have to fight rookies in his first fight at least. So, let's not mention UFC veterans. 3) "sole motivator" is not a direct quote from White. 4) Why is Askren important? He's likely biased due to UFC not signing him. Dana White is an important figure in MMA. Askren? Nope. starship.paint ~ regal 11:59, 7 December 2014 (UTC)
@Starship.paint: About 1): You clearly don't understand how UFC contracts work. Usually a guy signs a multi-fight contract, but he's not obliged to finish all the fights (like signed a 6 fights contract but got injured after 2 fights, retired). Anderson Silva just signed a new 13 fights contract with UFC, but the guy is old and just broke his leg, no one actually believes that he WILL do all 13 fights. Let's see: Yahoo!, Sherdog all reporting it's a multi-fight deal (Sherdog is about as credible as it is when it comes to MMA). It's just how UFC contracts work, you sign a 12 fights contract, not really going to have to fight 12 fights (due to injury, losing streak, being fired, etc), there is NO CONTRADICTION.
About 2): They still did challenge Punk, maybe if he has guts, he'll accept them as his 2nd, 3rd fight? Why not mention? There's huge paragraphs about Phil's "feuds" with [insert WWE character names], about his gimmick, about his knuckle tattoo, his chest tattoo, his ass tattoo, why not mentioning that he got tons of challenges after signing with UFC? And I wasn't the one who added that information.
About 3): Yup.
About 4): Askren is an undefeated champion in multiple MMA promotions. Currently ranked top 10 by Sherdog. Not important figure in MMA? :/ Shrine Maiden 12:37, 7 December 2014 (UTC)
  • @Shrine Maiden:, I restored "multi-fight contract". On 2) feuds, if Punk does indeed fight someone who challenge him in the future, we can always retroactively add the information that they challenged him before his debut. This isn't WWE where every feud is scripted. we have no idea whether it will actually lead to a match. On 4) To me, Askren is someone still on the way up as opposed to an established "name" in MMA - someone on the level of Tito Ortiz, Jon Jones, Anderson Silva etc. starship.paint ~ regal 13:16, 7 December 2014 (UTC)
  • @Starship.paint: 2) Like I said, I did not add that information, you should talk to the user who did. 4) The guys you mentioned are UFC fighters. MMA is not just UFC (even though it's the biggest promotion right now). Fighters like Fedor Emelianenko (did not fight in UFC), Mirko Cro Cop (failed misserably in his UFC career) are still very important figures. When a top 10 guy in the world, a multiple times MMA champion has something to say about the CM Punk signing, calling him "a fake", it's not totally irrelevant to the subject. Shrine Maiden 13:35, 7 December 2014 (UTC)
I didn't add the Askren thing (though he is a star, and his reaction did make the news), but did add the UFC challenges. Figured they illustrated his drawing power, and gave readers an idea of who might be in line. Nothing binding, of course, but Twitter beefs do influence the matchmaking. Just had Bisping vs Rockhold, based largely on tweeting. Not a huge deal, but I think it's worth noting. In UFC as well as WWE, feuds matter. Just a bit more genuine.
We shouldn't start suddenly calling him "Brooks", in any case. His common name followed through to UFC, and the sources reflect this. They mention his birth name, but refer to him as Punk. As he said in his AoW, he's been CM Punk for eight years longer than he was just Phil, even among friends. Always been Punk to the public. InedibleHulk (talk) 23:08, 7 December 2014 (UTC)
  • I'm glad Shrine Maiden brought up Fedor and Cro Cop. These are men with numerous, numerous accolades, and I'm glad if we were adhering to that standard. Fedor has more than twice the MMA fights than Askren, Cro Cop has more than thrice. Regarding the Twitter feuds, I suggest adding in a hidden note in the article with the url and names of people who called Punk out. If they really are confirmed to be having a match, then we can re-add this information, otherwise it's not that important IMO. starship.paint ~ regal 23:21, 7 December 2014 (UTC)
Those two are definitely more famous than Askren, but Askren (a current and former major champion in his own right) is more relevant to this particular story, given his long-running UFC drama. The Twitter stuff wasn't about actual matches, it was to show Punk has extraordinary heat from day one. Scan throught the recent signings at List of current UFC fighters and try to find an experienced and talented guy who was called out by even one Top Ten fighter. After you don't, maybe you'll appreciate how this is unusual enough to be noteworthy. InedibleHulk (talk) 23:46, 7 December 2014 (UTC)
Wikipedia is not a promotional tool, but it would be in everyone's best interest to help get the actual Green Power Ranger out of Instagram and into the Octagon. #IgnoreAllRules. Askren (or anyone) can't just smash Punk (or lose to him). Gotta build heels with squash matches, before an epic battle can make sense. Jason David Frank is the perfect first step toward a gigantic angle with One FC, Askren, Asia and the Internet vs UFC, Punk, Reebok and the TV.
It sounds a bit too stupid to work, but so did Power Rangers and Facebook. Still do. InedibleHulk (talk) 04:25, 8 December 2014 (UTC)
CM Punk was fired on his wedding day and Jason David Frank was rebanished to obscurity on Christmas morning. He had a good year as the only Wikipedia-endorsed candidate, though. Cheers to a 2016 with anyone but Pendred! InedibleHulk (talk) 12:29, 28 December 2015 (UTC)

Twitter investigation

Can we confirm whether or not Punk still operates the @CMPunk handle? When I checked out https://twitter.com/CMPunk today it says "Coach" and shows some hockey guy.

It's retweeting a bunch of Chicago Black Hawks and Thor stuff so it seems like him, but it's odd that it doesn't show him or anything...

Is it possible he can't use his WWE-related images or something? Still no UFC background... odd. Ranze (talk) 06:50, 26 January 2015 (UTC)

Why wouldn't he be? It's well known (and it's in this article) that he's a Blackhawks fan and he likes comics. The Coach name on the account has been there since early last year and the account is still verified. There's no evidence to suggest it's not still him. CRRaysHead90 | #RaysUp 01:24, 27 January 2015 (UTC)
The "hockey guy" is Reg Dunlop of the Chiefs, better known as Paul Newman from Slap Shot. But yes, this is CM Punk's account. InedibleHulk (talk) 17:40, 27 January 2015 (UTC)

Orphaned references in CM Punk

I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of CM Punk's orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.

Extremely easy. In the beginning it would be much more accurate to list this gentlemen's other professions first since and then list Mixed Martial Artist, or add the word "aspiring" at the front of Mixed Martial Artist as he made this announcement a long time ago and has yet to fight. It is also listed as doubtful that he will ever fight. It's not a big thing, but this guy is a pro wrestler who made a big announcement he would fight in the UFC and in two years can't make an entry level fight. 99% of the world doesn't care, but it is an insult to any UFC fighter that he is listed as a Mixed Martial Artist first under his description. Thank you for your time.

Done: I've re-ordered his professions and added "upcoming" prior to mixed martial artist, to make it clear that he has not fought yet. Though, I'd recommend being less condescending in the future. Prefall 06:54, 20 May 2016 (UTC)

Okay. So in the "Early career and IWA Mid-South (1999–2005)" section's second paragraph, it has a list of people CM Punk worked with early. One of those people is listed as "Dave PrazakDave Prazak", maybe an attempt to make his name a link. Since that guy doesn't have a Wikipedia article, just removing that middle word should fix this problem. So would someone please do that? Thank you. 2602:306:BC31:4AA0:480B:1D12:4102:2962 (talk) 14:35, 27 May 2018 (UTC)

Source Exception - CM Punk and Colt Cabana vs WWE/Dr. Amann

@Prefall: @Nickag989: @CASSIOPEIA: As many of you guys know Wrestingzone is part of the unreliable source list, however, going allow it for the CM Punk and Colt Cabana vs WWE/Dr. Amann Lawsuit. Wrestingzone only one provided good accuracy of the trial progress from day 1 to end of the trial. I mean even the reliable source Wresting Observer is using Wrestingzone coverage of the trial.

It was not being used as a source in your edit; a plainlink was just added in article prose, which is not appropriate nor necessary. Now, if we go into detail about some of the testimony, including correction of information from the podcast, with proper formatting, then I think the source will be okay to use. • "The night after SummerSlam, Punk accused Nash of conspiring with Triple H to keep Punk away from the WWE Championship." What does "away from the WWE Championship" mean?
  • Sources from The Baltimore Sun is unavailable in Europe. Would appreciate if anyone verifies.
  • Not sure if information about his WWE career can be supported by WWE.com, since it's a primary source.
  • "Embarrassed by being shaved bald as he considered himself always pure unlike his followers, Punk began wearing a mask to hide his baldness." Ref doesn't support why he wore mask. Problem with WP:SYNTH
  • "To keep a presence on television, he began commentating on Raw from November 22." Again reasoning not supported by ref.
  • "Punk later revealed that his motives for the attacks were that he had joined and assumed control of The Nexus." ref requires archive from original
  • "In January 2011, Punk and The Nexus cost Orton his match with The Miz for the WWE Championship at the Royal Rumble as a revenge for Orton prematurely ending Punk's first World Heavyweight Championship reign in 2008." Again, WP:SYNTH
  • "In turn, Orton responded by taking out all of the New Nexus members by punting them in the head, leaving Punk alone as the sole surviving member of the group." As a wrestling fan, even I can't get it
  • "and finally Alberto Del Rio again in a No. 1 contendership match all within one week" why "again"
  • "After making a scathing yet highly acclaimed on-air speech concerning the way in which WWE is run and its owner Vince McMahon, Punk was given a storyline suspension from televised WWE events." biased and not fully mentioned by ref.
  • "Upon his return, Punk ceased to appear with the remaining members of The Nexus and the group quietly dissolved that month, turning Punk face." ref doesn't support his face turn nor nexus breakdown
  • Problem with WP:PROSELINE throughout, especially in the late careers.
  • Online World of Wrestling is unreliable according to WP:PW/RS
  • "Mysterio won the WWE Championship tournament on the July 25 episode of Raw only to lose it to Cena later that night, but after Cena's victory Punk returned and upstaged the new WWE Champion's celebration while also entering into a title dispute." poorly constructed sentence, shorten it
  • "Punk originally pinned The Rock to retain after The Shield put Rock through a table while the arena lights were out, leading Vince McMahon to come out and announce that Punk would be stripped of the title, but he instead restarted the match at The Rock's request which Punk lost, ending his reign at 434 days." too long
  • It is difficult for the readers to understand the difference between what's kayfabe (storyline) and what's legitimate
  • "In March 2013, Punk set his sights on ending The Undertaker's undefeated WrestleMania streak in an effort to "take something away from the fans" as he believed they had taken the WWE title away from him, defeating Big Show, Randy Orton and Sheamus in a fatal four-way match to officially earn the right to face The Undertaker." again, too long
  • As far as I recall, Punk was already a face during his feud with Chris Jericho in 2013, not Lesnar.
  • Comment ImmortalWizard, I'm seeing precisely no evidence of your attempting to directly resolve issues with the existing community of article editors, and to informally improve the article. FAR/FARC is a last resort, not WP:List of articles I personally feel aren't perfect. I strongly suggest you close this request, as it's very unlikely to go anywhere. ‑ Iridescent 21:42, 27 February 2019 (UTC)

"Return"

I really feel like this should be covered, but I do not know the best way to word it. Basically he came out during a tiny independent show in a mask. Not 101% confirmed it was him, but he was in the same town wearing the same distinct sweater at two locations. It is all covered in the article I linked. One of the people that trained him was involved in the show as well. I feel like this forsure passes WP:N for inclusion. 1) first time doing anything physical in the ring since WWE and 2) surely enough coverage exists to indicate importance. StaticVapor message me! 09:41, 21 April 2019 (UTC)

I'm fine with inclusion, but a full heading, or even calling it a "return", may be overkill. Someone already adjusted his retirement status on the article based on this unpromoted, not-entirely-confirmed and likely one-off appearance, which also seems premature. Prefall 10:31, 21 April 2019 (UTC)

Fighting part of his fighting career needs expansion

We currently have three paragraphs of odds and ends around the fight, but one sentence about the fight itself (which just relays the table). I've tried a few ways, but nothing gets through.

If someone else finds this omission weird, maybe you can phrase it better than I did. Lots of two-minute fights end by RNC, but a blowout like that is rare. James Toney's article at least mentions how quickly the takedown happened. InedibleHulk (talk) 01:09, 24 September 2016 (UTC)

Updated lead paragraph suggestion

In light of his return to WWE-related programming and in the interest of aesthetically-pleasing content, I personally believe that the lead paragraph should look like this:

Phillip Jack Brooks[1] (born October 26, 1978), much better known by the ring name CM Punk, is an American professional wrestling analyst, retired professional wrestler, mixed martial artist and comic book writer. In professional wrestling, he is currently an analyst on WWE Backstage, a television show on Fox Sports 1 (FS1). In mixed martial arts, he is currently signed to both the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), where he competes in the welterweight division, and to Cage Fury Fighting Championships (CFFC), where he works as a commentator. He is perhaps best known for his time in WWE as a wrestler, where his 434-day WWE Championship reign (lasting from November 20, 2011 to January 23, 2013) stands as the longest of the 2010s, as well as the sixth longest in history.

If think it would just look neater and everything to me just seems to fit together well with this layout. What does everyone think? — Preceding unsigned comment added by SandRand97 (talkcontribs) 17:02, 13 November 2019 (UTC)

I oppose inclusion of professional wrestling analyst as one of his defining occupations per MOS:OPENPARABIO. Occupation clutter is something that many overlook—even listing him as a notable comic book writer may be overkill. He is commonly recognized as a professional wrestler and for his stint as a mixed martial artist in UFC.
Besides that, I'm open to rewriting and reorganizing the first paragraph, or the lead in general. The current revision has WWE Backstage listed in the second paragraph and contains the phrase "returned to WWE", both of which I'm not fond of. His active role on WWE Backstage should probably be included in the opening paragraph, and he technically isn't working for WWE—something he has been very vocal about during this process. Prefall 17:44, 13 November 2019 (UTC)
One appearance as a professional wrestling analyst hardly makes such someone's foremost occupation per MOS:OPENPARABIO. As he is an active personality for WWE Backstage, it is appropriate, as stated by Prefall, to annotate that role in the first paragraph instead of the second to avoid listing his career milestones in the style of a chronology. Aside from that, stating "in professional wrestling" and "in mixed martial arts" seems superfluous because before we know it, we'll end up with "in acting, he has played X role in X film," therefore, describing what roles he is fulfilling on which platform is more than sufficient. Furthermore, annotating the duration of his reign is appropriate, but annotating the specific beginning and end dates is overly specific, which goes against MOS:INTRO.
Note: "Much better known" just sounds weird and overkill. I wouldn't like reading "abundantly better known" or "indeed better known" either. KyleJoantalk 16:31, 14 November 2019 (UTC)

This Featured article was promoted in 2007, and the original writer has been gone for more than a decade. The article has fallen out of FA standards. Article issues

A possible review has been mentioned above. A section that seems to have become a dumping ground even for better articles is the "External links" section. I know sometimes things just "creep in". Just because there is a template created does not mean we should advertise those websites all over Wikipedia, or create link farms, so I removed some "extra profile" links.
The "External links" section needs to be more involved when reviewing articles to include: ELPOINTS #3, links to avoid, and EL official, with a goal of minimizing the number of links over our "editor's favorites". Otr500 (talk) 09:21, 4 February 2020 (UTC)

Up to date?

Does the lede need updating? I don't follow MMA, but is he still active in this area, and still signed to UFC, or is he focusing on his acting/presenting career now? I would have thought describing him as an actor and former professional wrestler and mixed martial artist might be more appropriate. --Michig (talk) 09:42, 7 March 2020 (UTC)

The situation is somewhat unclear. As far as we know, he is still signed to the UFC as a fighter, but the UFC president said after his previous fight that he would probably not fight for the UFC again. He is actively training in MMA but seemingly more as a hobby. His focus appears to be on acting and presenting. Prefall 12:12, 7 March 2020 (UTC)

Personal Life

He is a well known fan of the Chicago Bears, Cubs, Blackhawks, and Bulls. He can often be seen wearing a Cubs hat.

He has either 2 or 3 surrogate sisters and is known to not have any contact with his biological family since he was a teen. He calls his friend Chez his sister and her mom his mom. Another sister of his is his "little sister Shaylene" referenced when trash talking Kevin Nash on Raw in Sugust 2011. His family attended extreme rules 2012 in Chicago.

Colt Canana is his best friend and Punk says that he considers him his brother. Kofi Kingston is his "road wife" and travels with him on the wwe tour.

He has stated that he believes TNA to be an indie league. He says his favorite comic book hero is batman because he thinks he is the most relatable.

He is real life friends with WWE superstars Kofi Kingston, The Miz, Zack Ryder, Edge, and Sheamus, as well as Divas Maryse Oulette, AJ Lee, Beth Pheonix, and Eve Torres, along with her fiancé Renner Gracie, son of the UFC founder and owner Rorion Gracie. He refers to Eve as Steve and Maryse as Maurice.

He is well known for his sarcastic nature in interviews. He has appeared at Comic Con in 2011 and 2012.

Punk has stated that he never wanted to be anything other than a professional wrestler. His dream Autitude Era opponent is Stone Cold Steve Austin. He says his favorite wrestlers in childhood were "Macho Man" Randy Savage, "Rowdy" Roddy Piper, Austin, and HBK Shawn Michaels.

Mike Jackson fight result

A number of sources seem to indicate that the fight with Mike Jackson was a no contest.

https://www.espn.co.uk/mma/fighter/_/id/3962508/cm-punk http://ufcstats.com/fighter-details/a8c9d16fe2a14d72 https://www.mixedmartialarts.com/fighter/Mike-Jackson:14E635540CF056DA/

When you Google it it says no contest as well.

On the other hand, this Sherdog website still has it as a Jackson win, as does UFC.com

https://www.ufc.com/event/ufc-225#

I can't find any actual news of a reason for it to be overturned, just Reddit posts suggesting it had something to do with a failed drugs test.

Any views on this? Rambo Apocalypse (talk) 00:36, 20 May 2021 (UTC)

Yeah, I thought that, but then I looked up UFC 200 on the UFC site and they still had Lesnar beating Hunt even though it's well established that that result was overturned. They still have it as a win on Lesnar's athlete page as well. They don't see to update based on overturned results, maybe because it's bad publicity, maybe because they just don't care to update it until the fighter has got another fight coming up.
