Brass or Bronze edit

English is not my native language but why is this article called "Bronze Gate" and not "Brass Gate". The gate is called Brass Gate in Croatian (Mjedena vrata). Also, I find the name Brass Gate to be more common and used in English-speaking litterature than Bronze Gate. If you search for Brass Gate you'll get more hits on Google too. I don't know about this specific instance, but I've read of the Greeks and Romans using the words for "bronze" and "brass" interchangeably, or even ignoring the distinction and referring to both bronze and brass simply as "copper". Annoyingly, both "Bronze Gate" and "Brass Gate" may be correct. ManuelKomnenos (talk) 18:46, 6 April 2022 (UTC)Reply
@The Emperor of Byzantium: Hello! As the creator of this article, do you have any thoughts on the gate's name? I note that one of the English language references describes it as the "Brass Gate", and (using automated translation), I can second @Tromber:'s pointing out that "Mjedena Vrata" is "Brass Gate" in Croatian. If I'm remembering right, "Bronze Gate" would be something like "Bronca Vrata". The question is not of earth-shaking importance, especially because one can successfully search for the gate online using either name; nonetheless, I think there is a case to be made for calling it "Brass". ManuelKomnenos, first thank you, issues of translation are a minefield, but yes it should be Bronze, but in some of the reference material (in Croatian) it says Mjedena Vrata, I have got into trouble in the past for not translating the sources literally, but if there is consensus... then we can use Bronca Vrata or Mjedena Vrata, and you are right to point this out, as its a point of order and thank you for being polite and understanding  The Emperor of Byzantium  (talk) 18:18, 10 May 2022 (UTC)Reply
@The Emperor of Byzantium: Of course! Thank you for expanding the encyclopedia’s coverage of Diocletian’s Palace. It is worthwhile to find the most correct name for the gate, but the matter is not urgent. Both within Wikipedia and on Google, this article appears whether one searches for “Bronze Gate” or “Brass Gate”, so the name choice isn’t preventing anyone from seeing the article. In the days ahead, I’m going to search the local library system for books concerning Diocletian’s Palace, and see which name appears most frequently therein.
