Role of racism and imperialism not mentioned

The way that Belgium, etc enslaved and killed numerous people in Central America, South America, and America are not mentioned. The fact that chocolate, coffee, etc became prominent in Belgium and Europe would not have happened without the abuse of Native Americans, meso-Americans,Africans, Tainos, Caribs, Arawaks. Not sure Belgium enslaved many Americans, the number of Belgians who ever met a Taino, Carib or Arawak being pretty infinitesimal. Actually the Chocolate: A Global History book makes it clear the Congo never played an important role in the development of the Belgian chocolate industry. Question

One of our major store chains has a chocolate that the label states is "Belgium chocolate packed in China". What would that mean and why would something like that be done?Foofbun (talk) 11:33, 24 August 2014 (UTC)

I suppose that would be chocolate that was produced in Belguim and then put into decorative boxes in China, where the boxes and the boxing are likely to cost less than in Belgium. —⁠ ⁠BarrelProof (talk) 19:43, 15 February 2022 (UTC)

Production & Standards Suggestion

Although this section somewhat addresses what I'm bringing up, I'm hoping that someone can further clarify it. I'm in the process of comparing 118 dark chocolate bars from 76 brands from around the world, not to mention many other bars that I'm simply reviewing. Some brands that are not produced in Belgium, such as Chocolove (African beans, chocolate produced in the USA), are claiming that their chocolate is Belgian. I find this disambiguous because, unless there is more than just a standard (which can be adopted anywhere else), there should be a recipe specific to Belgian chocolate and not just because there are chocolate makers from Belgium involved somehow. Saying it's Belgian chocolate when it's not implies something that may not be true of the brand, and may even reflect negatively on the entire Belgian chocolate industry (although I think Chocolove seems quite nice). Since Belgian companies adhere to their and the EU's standards to a large degree, it doesn't seem right to call it Belgian if it was produced outside of Belgium. Calling any non-Belgian chocolate Belgian also muddies the water as to where the chocolate was produced, with several companies (not necessarily Belgian) I've bought not even stating the country of production.
