There appear to be a couple of factual difficulties here

  • The Duke of Brabant in 1372 was not called Wenceslas, in fact there is no Wenceslas in the list.
  • There was a Duke of Guelders called Edward but only until 1371

Also, Gulik is actually Julich. Didn't know that either but it's in the Dutch Wikipedia. And Aken is far away, it must be Aachen. Piet 12:01, 29 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

I noticed a problem too, there was no Duke of Brabant in 1372 - the title was borne by a duchess at that time. -Will Beback · · 07:20, 27 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Well observed, and that was the main cause of the war: Wenceslaus of Luxemburg was only the husband of the duchess of Brabant, Joanna, daughter and heir of John III. Wenceslaus had trouble imposing his authority. Guelders was his brother-in-law, and by Guelder's marriage to another daughter of the late duke John III, he could also claim the duchy. Jülich was backed by Gueldre - that made him so daring. By the way, the right date is August 22 1371 (Saint Symphorian), as cited in the chronicle "Brabantsche Yeesten" Ch. LIV [1] verse 6250

XIIIc ende LXXI jaer, (year 1371)

Op St Simphoriaens dach, (on St symphorian's day)

Die xxij in oeghst lach. (that was on 22 in August)

The duke of Gueldres died in the battle. That's why he was only duke till 1371.

I also removed the reference to the marquess of Namur. It was not the count of Namur himself who participated, but Robert (1325 – 1392), lord Beaufort-sur-Meuse and Renaix, Marshall of Brabant, son and brother of the counts of Namur. Riyadi (talk) 20:42, 9 September 2008 (UTC)Reply
