Image copyright problem with Image:CloseToYou.jpg edit

The image Image:CloseToYou.jpg is used in this article under a claim of fair use, but it does not have an adequate explanation for why it meets the requirements for such images when used here. In particular, for each page the image is used on, it must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for the use in this article.
  • That this article is linked to from the image description page.

(They Long to Be) Close to YouThey Long to Be Close to You – Although this current title is commonly used by many sources, the original title omits parentheses and is easier to type. Relisted. BDD (talk) 16:45, 28 August 2013 (UTC) George Ho (talk) 20:44, 20 August 2013 (UTC)Reply

This song's sub-title is "Close to You", which many artists use when covering the song themselves. If this article's going to be moved, move it to "Close to You". Best, --Discographer (talk) 21:43, 20 August 2013 (UTC)Reply
  • Comment only. I am tempted to say, "oppose" because, afaik, the most famous version does contain the brackets and whatever the final decision is there will have to be redirect(s) because it has been issued under at least 3 stylisations. AT present I note that there are no links via redirect pages, but that changes as soon as there is a redirect. Would somebody promise to sort all incoming links out if it is moved? --Richhoncho (talk) 19:04, 21 August 2013 (UTC)Reply
Oppose: After doing some research, I find Rich is correct. Any move here would be unwise, as The Carpenters' version is the most popular version played on popular music radio station outlets, also being the only version to top the music charts, and having itself (The Carpenters' version, that is) been covered by numerous artists, thus establishing it as the definitive version over all others. So, really a move wouldn't make any sense. Keep where it's at. Best, --Discographer (talk) 19:58, 21 August 2013 (UTC)Reply
Oppose. Even if Bacharach/David entitled it without parentheses, the popularisation by the Carpenters makes this without doubt the most common usage. -- Ohc ¡digame!¿que pasa? 04:07, 4 September 2013 (UTC)Reply

Suppression of all other notable cover in 2022 edit

I find quite sad that all the references added over time on the other notable versions were deleted in 2022 as per the song cover policy.

Showing that multiple versions exist is both informative and help illustrate how the song has been influencial and related to many artists.

Most of the artists mentioned in the list of covers are well known (Diana Ross, Cranberries...) and their albums (with the cover) were signicant (even if it can be debated if the cover itself stood out).

In this case, the strict application of WPSong cover has reduced the quality of the article and made it less informative. The purpose of the policy is to highlight the most notable covers and avoid having too many, but it shouldn't drain all content away from articles.

Sharing this to suggest we reinstate the other notable cover section deleted in 2022.

Thanks. Best regards, 2A02:2788:11A6:1C9:C149:5E0A:EB67:9BDF (talk) 00:50, 23 November 2023 (UTC)Reply

Wikipedia has a policy about not hosting indiscriminate facts. Our readers should see the important highlights about a topic, not an exhaustive list of facts. If you want a long list of song covers, try secondhandsongs.com, or a Carpenters fan page. Binksternet (talk) 02:13, 23 November 2023 (UTC)Reply

Parentheses (again) edit

Notwithstanding the 2013 RM discussion above, the image of the label in the infobox clearly shows no parentheses? Martinevans123 (talk) 22:25, 29 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
