This category should not be speedy deleted as being unpopulated, because... (your reason here) --Weglinde (talk) 17:07, 4 March 2015 (UTC)Reply

In my "sandbox" is the first article to use the category. It should be finished in a day or so. Weglinde (talk) 17:07, 4 March 2015 (UTC)Reply

@Weglinde: In which case, please fix the categorisation of the category. It shouldn't be placed inside itself, because that causes it to be reported at Wikipedia:Database reports/Self-categorized categories; instead, it needs to be added to one or more different parent categories, see Help:Category#Category pages and Wikipedia:Categorization#Creating category pages. --Redrose64 (talk) 19:37, 4 March 2015 (UTC)Reply
Oh dear! I must confess this has lost me. Obviously when I created this category I dd it wrongly. I would be grateful if you could correct my mistake. I will then try to see where I went wrong.

@Weglinde: Have a look at Category:Communes of Finistère, you will find a box at the bottom titled "Categories:", and this contains three items: "Communes in France by department", "Towns in Brittany" and "Geography of Finistère" - these are the categories that Category:Communes of Finistère is a member of; we call them the parent categories. If you now edit the category page, you will see several lines of wiki markup, the last three of which are:

which match up with the three parent categories.
Now, if you return to the category Category:Parish enclosures in Brittany, you will see that the Categories box at the bottom contains one item: "Parish enclosures in Brittany", which is the same as the category that you're looking at; and if you edit the page, you will see that it contains one line:

This means that the category's parent is itself, which is a problem. What you need to do is choose one or more parents for Category:Parish enclosures in Brittany which are not the same as itself. --Redrose64 (talk) 22:43, 4 March 2015 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for taking so much trouble on this. I now understand the problem. Would it be possible fir you to go right back to the beginning and describe what steps I shoud have taken when setting up the category "Parish enclosures in Brittany" . In other words how would I have included both sub-category and parent category? Thanks a lot.

It seems that the parent categories have been fixed by Le Deluge (talk · contribs) To me, these seem to be a lot more appropriate. --Redrose64 (talk) 13:06, 5 March 2015 (UTC)Reply
