Updates

Whenever you do something, edit it into here, just to keep track.

I've been quite busy today. Added the spify table on this page. Added the Template into all of the neighborhoods that didn't have them. We need to make stubs for the redlinks in that page, still. -JT 02:50, 6 December 2007 (UTC)

Speaking of that spify table why isn't it updating? I've added/assessed tons of articles to our WP and they still aren't listed in that table. HoosierState 23:41, 7 December 2007 (UTC)
The bot that updates it only does so every few days. Or you can go to this link and run it manually. -JT 02:12, 8 December 2007 (UTC)

Categories

I just completed extensive work on Category:Indianapolis, Indiana. A few new sub cats. and sorted all but a few pages that don't fit in any of the other sub cats. HoosierState 19:48, 9 December 2007 (UTC)

Templates

We need to make one for the project. I'm not sure how to, help much appreciated. TheHoosierState89 (talk) 22:42, 28 November 2007 (UTC)

  • If you can find an image, edit it into this template on the second line...preferably of the city's flag. If I find one first, I shall do it. -JT 18:10, 3 December 2007 (UTC)
  • Done. Now get tagging with the "Indianapolisproject" tag! -JT 19:49, 3 December 2007 (UTC)
    • I recommend changing the tag to "WikiProject Indianapolis", like most WPs, as a matter of consistency.--Bedford 03:27, 4 December 2007 (UTC)
      • Done. -JT 05:42, 4 December 2007 (UTC)
  • What about a WikiProject Indianapolis User Box? TheHoosierState89 03:48, 4 December 2007 (UTC)

-JT 05:39, 4 December 2007 (UTC)

Member List

Please make sure that you add your name in alphabetical order when you join. Just looks nicer.  :) If you happen to notice that someone has joined and just added at the top or bottom, please go ahead and edit them into the alphabetical place. Thanks! -JT 23:32, 3 December 2007 (UTC)

Portal:Indianapolis

I just started Portal:Indianapolis, as I have experience doing so, having created Portal:Louisville and Portal:Kentucky.--Bedford 01:22, 4 December 2007 (UTC)

  • Awesome! I tagged it. -JT 03:26, 4 December 2007 (UTC)
  • Question: The yellow badge on the Indianapolis Portal part of the Template:WikiProject_Indianapolis, is that supposed to be the same as Louisville's? -JT 04:37, 5 December 2007 (UTC)
    • D'oh! Fixed.--Bedford (talk) 05:26, 5 December 2007 (UTC)

Scope

For the scope, Wikipedia:WikiProject Chicago provides a great example! If we use their project as an example, I would not mind (volunteer) to be the Coordinator of Assessment or Collaboration. I would fill out our scope now but I am sorely short on time. TheHoosierState89 03:30, 4 December 2007 (UTC)

  • Sounds great. Don't know exactly what you'd be doing, but I'm all for it.  :) Change the Scope section to whatever you've got in mind whenever you get a chance. -JT 05:47, 4 December 2007 (UTC)

I'll fill it out some more as soon as we get a fully functional template. So we can have coordinators over certain jobs. HoosierState 01:53, 5 December 2007 (UTC)

  • I added the departments section, obviously Jasont82 is the coordinator since he is the founder. I volunteered for the Assessment/Collaboration earlier and Bedford has done a great job with the portal so I added him as the head of that department (if you wish not to be thats fine too). Please make suggestions for any changes you wish :)! Volunteers for the vacant posistions will be much appreciated HoosierState 22:59, 5 December 2007 (UTC)

Hey Bedford, thanks for catching that Chicago error, I thought I changed over everything! :D HoosierState 02:09, 6 December 2007 (UTC)

I have no problems whatsoever with it, although I need to make it so I can have 10 for each of the different sections, bu a selected article, biography, or attraction needs to be almost B, with sections, and a picture that some image nazi won't want to take down. A picture of the Children's Museum is on my wishlist.--Bedford (talk) 02:42, 6 December 2007 (UTC)

A picture of the Children's Museum is on my wishlist. You might want to check this out, hopefully that will help ;). HoosierState 17:27, 16 December 2007 (UTC)
Awesome. Thanks.--Bedford (talk) 21:26, 16 December 2007 (UTC)

Rankings/Importance

Why can't we rank and give articles an importance for the WP:Indianapolis? I've tried but they don't show up. I noticed many other city WikiProjects have rankings, etc. why aren't ours showing up? Thanks, TheHoosierState89 (talk) 22:04, 4 December 2007 (UTC)

  • Hmm. I'm not sure what you mean. Do you mean in the project box on talk pages? -JT 22:12, 4 December 2007 (UTC)

Yes, I went to start accessing some articles and when I hit preview they didn't show up at all. TheHoosierState89 (talk) 22:17, 4 December 2007 (UTC)

  • Our template is not set up for rankings. We need to look at the WP Louisville template to look at a fully functional WP template.--Bedford (talk) 01:03, 5 December 2007 (UTC)

Okay just how do we go about doing that? TheHoosierState89 (talk) 01:15, 5 December 2007 (UTC)

  • I copied over the template, but there seems to be some problems. Will need to cleanup.--Bedford (talk) 02:02, 5 December 2007 (UTC)
    • What is wrong with it? I did find one spot that tried linking to Indianapolis, Kentucky, that I fixed. Other than that, it now looks just like Louisville's.
      • It did have a problem; I figured out what happened and fixed it. Should work now.--Bedford (talk) 05:26, 5 December 2007 (UTC)
        • Jawesome -JT 13:16, 5 December 2007 (UTC)

So I guess now that we have the box set up to show our rankings, we need to set some guidelines so we can go around and assess the articles. I particularly like the set up that WikiProject Indiana has. We'd just have to change the importance guidelines. Thoughts? -JT 15:09, 5 December 2007 (UTC)

  • Agreed. HoosierState 22:35, 5 December 2007 (UTC)
  • The only thing wrong with our Statistics box is that it doesn't include a List section like most other Stat boxes. HoosierState 02:47, 11 December 2007 (UTC)

Page Header

Okay I know we've been using a lot of other wikiprojects' ideas/projects (why not they're there for the using) but I saw this and thought if we could do our header like this, it would look really cool. Both WikiProject New Orleans and WikiProject Jacksonville have really neat page headers. I tried to create one for us but I failed miserably (I'm terrible with codes), anyone else want to give it a shot? HoosierState 03:56, 6 December 2007 (UTC)

No takers? Don't blame you ;) HoosierState 01:48, 11 December 2007 (UTC)

Somebody

Somebody has been a Project adding fool! We've tripled our amount of pages in the project in the past day or so. Great work to whomever has been going crazy on that! -JT 04:26, 8 December 2007 (UTC)

Thats me, I figured since I'm the head of the Collaboration/Assessment part I'm going to add everyone/everything Indianapolis to our project. Let's just say I feel like I'm gonna go insane, lol. My fingers hurt too but it's for the good of the project! :) By the way thanks for noticing it gives me a little boost because this is getting really old. HoosierState 04:33, 8 December 2007 (UTC)
Okay I've tagged EVERYTHING except: Category:Indianapolis Indians players and Category:Indianapolis Colts players. I may have patience enough to tag about 1000 articles (guessing) but at 2 AM I don't have patience to tag all of those players. Is there a bot we can assign to do that dirty work? Wait the bots can't assess or give importance to those articles can they? If not don't worry I'll just do it at the next possible time, oh help me.......HoosierState 06:57, 8 December 2007 (UTC)
  • Some bots can assess for a WP, but only if some other WP has already assessed it for themselves.--Bedford (talk) 07:39, 8 December 2007 (UTC)
Okay thanks, guess I'll be busy Saturday morning with those two Categories ;). Good night everyone HoosierState 07:44, 8 December 2007 (UTC)
LoL...HoosierState's a stud. I hope you're just copying and pasting and then changing the assessment, right? -JT 09:54, 8 December 2007 (UTC)
Yes, good grief if I didn't I'd be here ALL YEAR! Does everyone think we should just tag current/former Indianapolis Colts players and not former Baltimore Colts too. If they played exclusively in Baltimore they wouldn't fall into our project, correct? HoosierState 15:39, 8 December 2007 (UTC)
    • Correct. Heck, I wouldn't bother with any former members of the Indy Colts, unless they still live in Indy.--Bedford (talk) 15:44, 8 December 2007 (UTC)

Well I checked around and most of the other projects include any of their city's team's former players as well as current in their WP. Plus many of the Colts former players has links to the Indianapolis Colts which a top priority of our project. And I just realized haven't done any of the Pacers players either....ugh. HoosierState 16:27, 8 December 2007 (UTC)

Just updating everyone, I've tagged all Indy related articles (I know I said that before but I got ahead of myself) all I have left are the Indianapolis Colts players (381), Indianapolis Racers players (59), Indiana Ice players (60), and Indiana Pacers players (227). So there are a total of 727 articles left. HoosierState 19:43, 8 December 2007 (UTC)
  • Down to just the Colts and Pacers players, we're getting there! HoosierState 08:01, 9 December 2007 (UTC)

Additional article

I have done a small amount of work on the article The House Of Blue Lights which should fall into this project. I rescued it from deletion and expanded it a bit, but really don't have any more sources for it. Wildhartlivie (talk) 08:17, 8 December 2007 (UTC)

Broad Ripple

Someone needs to create this article. I would, but I thought a local should do it. Decide if it should be "Broad Ripple", "Broad Ripple, Indiana", "Broadripple", "Broad Ripple Village", etc.--Bedford (talk) 03:38, 9 December 2007 (UTC)

  • I'm on it. First I need to just a litte research, I think the page needs to be titled "Broad Ripple Village, Indianapolis". HoosierState 05:14, 9 December 2007 (UTC)

Shortcut

Hey guys, i thought i'd do you a favour and create a shortcut to your page, just type in WP:INDP and you'll get a direct link to the WikiProject, its much easier i have found after creating my WikiProject, WP:WLA or WikiProject Los Angeles, if you dont like it feel free to delete it. Cheers, (♠Taifarious1♠) 03:39, 9 December 2007 (UTC)

Great IDea. Thanks! -JT 04:46, 9 December 2007 (UTC)

Barnstar

We need to design a Barnstar for people that do great work in our project. I was thinking we can just use the Indianapolis flag but instead of the regular star in the center use a barnstar star. I'm going to create the file but I'm going to need some help turning it into a Barnstar. HoosierState 04:59, 9 December 2007 (UTC)

Can you explain what a barn star is? -JT 04:59, 9 December 2007 (UTC)
  • It's like a reward for excellent work. HoosierState 05:10, 9 December 2007 (UTC)

Possible Featured List

Please help support a WikiProject Indianapolis list that up for Featured List status, Indianapolis Colts seasons could become our 3rd FA. Support much appreciated! HoosierState 20:43, 29 December 2007 (UTC)

Come on people this list really needs your support. It needs at least 4 votes of support to pass and it only has 2 currently. HoosierState 08:47, 3 January 2008 (UTC)

Back again, this time with List of Indianapolis Colts first-round draft picks. HoosierState 23:33, 14 January 2008 (UTC)

Night Time Picture

Awesome shot. ^5 to whomever added it. Did you take it yourself? -- JTHolla! 20:57, 4 January 2008 (UTC)

Template Question

How do we add a List section to our table of assessment? Because those 14 unassessed articles actually aren't unassessed articles they're lists. So I was wondering how to add a list row. See here for what I'm talking about. Thanks to anyone who can fix this. HoosierState 01:18, 8 January 2008 (UTC)

Nevermind I got an admin to fix it, problem solved. HoosierState 22:00, 10 January 2008 (UTC)

Encyclopedia of Indianapolis

http://books.google.com/books?id=bg13QcMSsq8C Has many of the pages of the book Encyclopedia of Indianapolis; I've made some kick ass articles from it in the past few days. I created Jacob Piatt Dunn and Camp Morton, and 5x expanded Garfield Park and Indiana Historical Society. If we can get a "DYK" every day, we can start randomizing the DYK section of the Portal.--Bedford 01:01, 30 January 2008 (UTC)

Awesome! If there's anything we can do to help with it, let us know! -- JTHolla! 20:04, 30 January 2008 (UTC)

To get a DYK, it must be a new article less than 5 days old, with at least 1500-2000 characters of main text, or was expanded in the last five days to 5x what it was previous to the expansion. One a day concerning Indy would help. I have one more to do for tomorrow (a new day on Wikipedia starts at 7pm Louisville/Indy time), but after that we'll need help.--Bedford 20:10, 30 January 2008 (UTC)

I now own a copy of this encyclopedia, so if anyone wants to use this book as a source, let me know.--Bedford 05:58, 4 March 2008 (UTC)

Portal:Indiana

Although not within our WP Portal:Indiana is up for Featured portal candidate discussion. Your comments would be appreciated, at Wikipedia:Featured portal candidates/Portal:Indiana. HoosierStateTalk 04:56, 9 February 2008 (UTC)

Portal:Indianapolis new section

Bedford has created, Portal:Indianapolis/On this day..., any help filling in each day would be really appreciated, thanks for any contributions! HoosierStateTalk 03:30, 20 February 2008 (UTC)

Reminders: the only wikilinks that should be bolded are those within our WikiProject. Lucas Oil doesn't get bolded, but Lucas Oil Stadium does, for example.--Bedford 03:39, 20 February 2008 (UTC)

Portal:Indianapolis Nominated

The portal has been nominated for featured status. To help or look at its progress, check Wikipedia:Featured portal candidates/Portal:Indianapolis.--Bedford 01:22, 22 February 2008 (UTC)

Coverage area

Hoosierstate said a little while ago that this WikiProject only covers Marion County. Speaking as the one member of this WP that has never lived in Indy, but instead lived most of my live in Jeffersonville, Indiana, with three years of having an apartment in Terre Haute, Indiana, I can say that those outside Marion County consider Fishers, Carmel, Zionsville, Greenwood, etc. as essentially being Indianapolis. I'm not saying WP Indy should cover the entire Indy MSA like WP Louisville covers their MSA, as that would be ridiculous, but a little extension seems to be in order.--Bedford 23:26, 25 February 2008 (UTC)

I actually live just about 15 mins away from Indy and if we decide to extend just a little bit someone could always argue to extend just a little more until we cover the entire MSA. The scope statement - The scope of this WikiProject is any article dealing with Indianapolis or Marion County. I agree most people living in surrounding counties identify themselves with Indy, as I do, but we've got to draw the line somewhere and Marion County is most convenient. HoosierStateTalk 23:39, 25 February 2008 (UTC)
Technically, the two [[[USS Indianapolis]] have nothing to do with Indianapolis or Marion County, other than name. I'm guessing the phrase "dealing with Indianapolis" can be bent and shaped a bit.--Bedford 01:47, 26 February 2008 (UTC)

Calling all members

Okay this is really frustrating me. I have looked all over the internet and can't find what day the 1985 NBA All Star game was played in Indianapolis. The game would be a perfect for Portal:Indianapolis/On this day..., if anyone could find the day I would really really appreciate it. I believe I've narrowed it down to the 24th, 17th, or 10th of February in 1985 since those days were Sundays (and most NBA All Star games are played on Sunday). Again I would really appreciate anyone's help. Thanks in advance. HoosierStateTalk 01:14, 26 February 2008 (UTC)

February 10th, 1985 [1] -- JTHolla! 01:35, 26 February 2008 (UTC)
Thanks very much Jason, although I must say I'm a litte angry you could find it so quick and I looked for about a half an hour, lol. You know whats funny is that I was at that site, here!. Thanks again!!! :D HoosierStateTalk 01:39, 26 February 2008 (UTC)
This just means that my Google skills are better than yours. :D -- JTHolla! 01:43, 26 February 2008 (UTC)

Category naming

If you look at Category:Indianapolis, Indiana some of the sub cats are named Indianapolis, Indiana while some just use Indianapolis. Any thoughts on naming and changing these for consistency? HoosierStateTalk 00:01, 29 February 2008 (UTC)

It would be better to take this up with maybe the Cities Wikiproject. There is a discussion in the Indianapolis Talk Archive of a discussion on this that never really got off the ground (and was before my time here). Basically the post was about how the page for every city in the world other than US cities are named just the cities (meaning Toronto instead of Toronto, Ontario while the US cities are named City, State. Check it out. -- JTHolla! 01:15, 29 February 2008 (UTC)
I say drop the Indiana, and just make it Indianapolis. It's not like there's a notable other Indianapolis.--Bedford 00:52, 3 March 2008 (UTC)
I agree but that's A LOT of re-categorizing to do. HoosierStateTalk 00:57, 3 March 2008 (UTC)
I've almost finished re-categorizing, I have 120 people left to re-cat. I'm calling it quits for the night. HoosierStateTalk 03:26, 3 March 2008 (UTC)
You're a beast. -- JTHolla! 05:59, 4 March 2008 (UTC)
Nah I just have too much free time. HoosierStateTalk 21:30, 4 March 2008 (UTC)

Newsletter

Should we start one, do you think? Basketball110 what famous people say ♣ 17:14, 2 March 2008 (UTC)

Yeah sounds good. Does anyone know how? HoosierStateTalk 17:28, 2 March 2008 (UTC)
Probably easiest just to steal someone elses and change it a bit to fit our need. <__< -- JTHolla! 01:00, 3 March 2008 (UTC)
Yeah, is it a template or something? HoosierStateTalk 01:04, 3 March 2008 (UTC)
Here's one from Basketball that we could usurp. Wikipedia:WikiProject_Dallas-Fort_Worth/Newsletter/March20082 -- JTHolla! 21:52, 9 March 2008 (UTC)

Township Map

I was wondering how hard would it be to make a map of the Marion County area broken down by townships, with links to all the respective townships' pages, to put at the bottom of the township and school pages? -- JTHolla! 15:58, 4 March 2008 (UTC)

I'm not sure I understand what you're asking. Like a template or something? Because if so I can easily do something like that. HoosierStateTalk 21:30, 4 March 2008 (UTC)
It would be just like {{Marion County, Indiana}}, but just the county, split into the townships, with links to the townships pages, and anything else that you guys think would be good to have. -- JTHolla! 21:58, 4 March 2008 (UTC)

New Articles Box

So I'm thinking that the box should be defaulted as uncollapsed, because we want the new articles visable, and without the box there, the New Articles section is almost non-existant. But on the same hand, the list of NAs is really long. What's should the cut off be for the length of time articles are kept on the list before being taken off? -- JTHolla! 18:13, 4 March 2008 (UTC)

I don't think you can default it as open. I can see if we can make it into a 3 column list so it's not so massive. HoosierStateTalk 21:30, 4 March 2008 (UTC)
You can. You'd change {| class="navbox collapsible collapsed" to {| class="navbox collapsible uncollapsed" -- JTHolla! 21:56, 4 March 2008 (UTC)
Don't kill me, but I think I liked it better as a single list. >.< -- JTHolla! 22:06, 4 March 2008 (UTC)
It's open now. The single list is simply too long. HoosierStateTalk 22:13, 4 March 2008 (UTC)
Well yeah. That's where the whole discussion about "When is a New Article no longer new" comes into play. -- JTHolla! 22:18, 4 March 2008 (UTC)
I have no idea. Personally I'd rather keep them all in the list for a sorta "rah rah" thing saying our project created these new articles. HoosierStateTalk 22:25, 4 March 2008 (UTC)
How about we do what WP:NRHP does and break it down by month. A pure alphabetical list doesn't show what actually is newer, and thus newer articles get lost.--Bedford 03:38, 9 March 2008 (UTC)
I like it (not that I don't like it the way it is now). What do you think, Hoosier? -- JTHolla! 03:40, 9 March 2008 (UTC)
Breaking it down by month would be good. HoosierStateTalk 16:46, 9 March 2008 (UTC)

WP: Indianapolis User Box

Can someone look at Template:User_WikiProject_Indianapolis and tell me what's wrong with it? Something is wrong with the source code, and I'm not sure what it is, but it screws up any user boxes placed around it, so I know something has to be wrong with it. (Plus I made it, so that adds to my speculation that it's screwy.

Thanks! -- JTHolla! 03:11, 9 March 2008 (UTC)

I've never had any problems with it; I double-checked and it looks good on my page.--Bedford 03:36, 9 March 2008 (UTC)
Hmm. You're right. It looks fine on your page, but it's messed up on my page, and Hoosier's page... -- JTHolla! 03:41, 9 March 2008 (UTC)
It's fine on my page, hmm I don't know. I'm not good at all with userboxes so I wouldn't have a clue how to fix it. HoosierStateTalk 16:45, 9 March 2008 (UTC)

St. Patrick's Photos

Could anyone make sure to take pictures of the canal being dyed green for St. Patrick's Day? I could use such a pic in the History of the Irish in Indianapolis article.--Bedford 19:57, 12 March 2008 (UTC)

I'm going to be downtown on Saturday for Obama's visit, I don't know if they'll have it green yet but I'll see what I can do. HoosierStateTalk 02:11, 13 March 2008 (UTC)
They are specifically going to do it on Monday. As I said to someone, I wish Friday was St. Pats as that is the day I'll be in Indy, taking pictures of Military Park, Murat Centre, and where Camp Morton was.--Bedford 07:33, 13 March 2008 (UTC)

Indiana Wesleyan University

Manutdglory (talk) 07:38, 26 March 2008 (UTC)

I've made a request for the page to be Semi-Protected here. My guess is that it will be Semi'd for a week or two. If the vandalism continues when the Semi is lifted, either let us know, or ask for permenant semi-protection at the link. Thanks for letting us know! -- JTHolla! 13:38, 26 March 2008 (UTC)
Page has been Semi-Protected for three days. Again, let us know if there are problems with it. I'm sure we'll cycle through it for a bit (it's now on my watchlist), but do tell us if you have to revert anything. Thanks again. -- JTHolla! 18:05, 26 March 2008 (UTC)

Image:Indianapolis_Tallest_Buildings.JPG - I couldn't figure out where 101 West Ohio is, can someone help me out? —Random832 (contribs) 22:44, 26 March 2008 (UTC)

101 West Ohio is hiding behind OneAmerica Tower. You can see it here, Image:Downtown indy from parking garage zoom.JPG, it's the light blue and white stripped building next to OneAmerica. HoosierStateTalk 02:42, 27 March 2008 (UTC)
Unfortunately, the city-county building is not visible in that shot. Are there any pictures that have all eight buildings in the list visible? —Random832 (contribs) 15:42, 27 March 2008 (UTC)
None that I know of. I'll try and get a picture next time I go downtown. HoosierStateTalk 20:53, 27 March 2008 (UTC)

Template:Historic Places in Indianapolis

So I created a template for a list of all the Historic Places in Indy. Can someone tell me what I have to put into it to make it collapsed all the time? ---- JTHolla! 23:56, 3 April 2008 (UTC)

It has to start, {| class="navbox collapsible collapsed". HoosierStateTalk 00:00, 4 April 2008 (UTC)
Where do I put that?? -- JTHolla! 00:08, 4 April 2008 (UTC)
Should be at the very beginning, but look at Template:NFL, its automatically collasped. HoosierStateTalk 00:12, 4 April 2008 (UTC)
Well I thought so; maybe I'm wrong, I've never been great with template boxes. HoosierStateTalk 00:15, 4 April 2008 (UTC)
Yeah, that doesn't work at all! >.< -- JTHolla! 00:16, 4 April 2008 (UTC)
Well the good thing is that it collapses when there is another template on the page. HoosierStateTalk 00:31, 4 April 2008 (UTC)
Yeah, I noticed that. Anyway, I stuck it on all the blue links. Feel free to edit it if you see any mistakes in it. -- JTHolla! 00:45, 4 April 2008 (UTC)

Would we be better served to instead add a See also section linking to the article listing all the NRHP places in Marion County. That's a brontosaurus sized template you have there.--Bedford 00:55, 4 April 2008 (UTC)

Well, now that it's collapsed, it shouldn't be a problem. -- JTHolla! 00:59, 4 April 2008 (UTC)

Wayne Gretzky Featured Article Review

Hello, this article, which falls under the scoope of your project, is currently listed as a Featured Article. I felt that there is sufficient reason to revisit this assessment, so I have listed it for a Featured Article Review. My preference is to see the concerns addressed and have the article remain at its current level, but some work its needed. Please feel free to contribute to the discussion at Wikipedia:Featured article review/Wayne Gretzky. Thanks, GaryColemanFan (talk) 21:14, 9 April 2008 (UTC)

Indiana Wesleyan University

Greetings,

An editor named "Me" has placed a tag on the IWU page, of which I am the primary editor. His reason for doing so is simply because I am affiliated with the school - not that I made any biased POV comments. The vast majority of Wikipedia contributors edit a page they are affiliated with, so I don't know where he's going with this. He even admits that I cited everything, but that he just wanted other people to know that I'm affiliated with IWU. I'm sorry, but you don't place a massive warning tag on the top of an article just because you feel like it. I've never had any problems with this page and do everything by Wiki guidelines. This guy is clearly overstepping his authority - I think he's a wanabee Wikipedia administrator. Please remove his tag and tell him not to put it back.

Again, there are no such things as bounds to authority. The tag should be there because you DO have a COI. There is a difference between COI and POV. Maybe you should check into them. -- MeHolla! 00:17, 6 June 2008 (UTC)

Changes to the WP:1.0 assessment scheme

As you may have heard, we at the Wikipedia 1.0 Editorial Team recently made some changes to the assessment scale, including the addition of a new level. The new description is available at WP:ASSESS.

  • The new C-Class represents articles that are beyond the basic Start-Class, but which need additional references or cleanup to meet the standards for B-Class.
  • The criteria for B-Class have been tightened up with the addition of a rubric, and are now more in line with the stricter standards already used at some projects.
  • A-Class article reviews will now need more than one person, as described here.

Each WikiProject should already have a new C-Class category at Category:C-Class_articles. If your project elects not to use the new level, you can simply delete your WikiProject's C-Class category and clarify any amendments on your project's assessment/discussion pages. The bot is already finding and listing C-Class articles.

Please leave a message with us if you have any queries regarding the introduction of the revised scheme. This scheme should allow the team to start producing offline selections for your project and the wider community within the next year. Thanks for using the Wikipedia 1.0 scheme! Articles flagged for cleanup

Currently, 2363 articles are assigned to this project, of which 329, or 13.9%, are flagged for cleanup of some sort. (Data as of 14 July 2008.) Are you interested in finding out more? I am offering to generate cleanup to-do lists on a project or work group level. See User:B. Wolterding/Cleanup listings for details. Subscribing is easy - just add a template to your project page. If you want to respond to this canned message, please do so at my user talk page. --B. Wolterding (talk) 18:42, 21 July 2008 (UTC)

Requested move at Indianapolis, Indiana

There is currently a discussion underway at Talk:Indianapolis, Indiana to move the page to Indianapolis. Please comment on the topic to help reach a consensus. HoosierStateTalk 18:11, 28 July 2008 (UTC)

Indiana Wesleyan University

Greetings,

I am the primary editor of the Indiana Wesleyan University page. A sourced 'criticisms' section was recently added to the article, but there have been several attempts by people associated with IWU attempting to delete this section using unregistered accounts. This seems contrary to Wikipedia standards - simply deleting something because you don't like it, even if it's true and sourced. Anyway, I'd appreciate it if you could put a partial lock on the page for awhile to divert attempts at deleting the section by unregistered users. Thanks.

Request for Comment - Lucas Oil Stadium

Hi there. I am posting this here because Lucas Oil Stadium is currently in an edit war, and is a part of your WikiProject. The war has started over the inclusion of "The Luke" as a nickname for the stadium. Please see here for archived discussion, and here to add your comments.

Thank you. -- MeHolla! 22:35, 15 September 2008 (UTC)

Wikipedia 0.7 articles have been selected for Indianapolis

Wikipedia 0.7 is a collection of English Wikipedia articles due to be released on DVD, and available for free download, later this year. The Wikipedia:Version 1.0 Editorial Team has made an automated selection of articles for Version 0.7.

We would like to ask you to review the articles selected from this project. These were chosen from the articles with this project's talk page tag, based on the rated importance and quality. If there are any specific articles that should be removed, please let us know at Wikipedia talk:Version 0.7. You can also nominate additional articles for release, following the procedure at Wikipedia:Release Version Nominations.

A list of selected articles with cleanup tags, sorted by project, is available. The list is automatically updated each hour when it is loaded. Please try to fix any urgent problems in the selected articles. A team of copyeditors has agreed to help with copyediting requests, although you should try to fix simple issues on your own if possible.

We would also appreciate your help in identifying the version of each article that you think we should use, to help avoid vandalism or POV issues. These versions can be recorded at this project's subpage of User:SelectionBot/0.7. We are planning to release the selection for the holiday season, so we ask you to select the revisions before October 20. At that time, we will use an automatic process to identify which version of each article to release, if no version has been manually selected. Thanks! For the Wikipedia 1.0 Editorial team, SelectionBot 23:02, 15 September 2008 (UTC)

This event is scheduled for February, but preparations should start sooner. I suggest if you want to participate you folks form an ad-hoc committee and get in touch with the museum people. Thanks.--Pharos (talk) 01:59, 11 November 2008 (UTC)

Coordinators' working group

Hi! I'd like to draw your attention to the new WikiProject coordinators' working group, an effort to bring both official and unofficial WikiProject coordinators together so that the projects can more easily develop consensus and collaborate. This group has been created after discussion regarding possible changes to the A-Class review system, and that may be one of the first things discussed by interested coordinators.

All designated project coordinators are invited to join this working group. If your project hasn't formally designated any editors as coordinators, but you are someone who regularly deals with coordination tasks in the project, please feel free to join as well. — Delievered by §hepBot (Disable) on behalf of the WikiProject coordinators' working group at 05:41, 28 February 2009 (UTC)

Mayors

Hi. If anyone from the project is interested, there are basic stubs to reference and expand about the mayors of Indianapolis. About a year ago, Noneboy (talk · contribs) created a list of very, very minimal stubs. Almost immediately, TexasAndroid (talk · contribs) redirected them all to List of mayors of Indianapolis. I'm slowly undoing that and trying to expand these articles to basic referenced stubs with relevant categories. I've now done this for the first seven mayors but the thing is, I've never set foot in Indianapolis and know absolutely nothing of its history so I'm not exactly the right guy to do this. I'm just trying to undo the overzealous redirection, a pet project of mine that has nothing to do with Indianapolis or mayors. Help would be very appreciated because I'd like to pass the torch and move on to another set of stub expansions of that type. Pichpich (talk) 17:51, 29 August 2009 (UTC)

Actually, I've now gone through the first eleven so I'm now moving on. Cheers, Pichpich (talk) 04:18, 30 August 2009 (UTC)

WP 1.0 bot announcement

This message is being sent to each WikiProject that participates in the WP 1.0 assessment system. On Saturday, January 23, 2010, the WP 1.0 bot will be upgraded. Your project does not need to take any action, but the appearance of your project's summary table will change. The upgrade will make many new, optional features available to all WikiProjects. Additional information is available at the WP 1.0 project homepage. — Carl (CBM · talk) 03:27, 22 January 2010 (UTC)

Inactive?

Is this project inactive? If so, it needs to be made into a task force of WikiProject Indiana. WhisperToMe (talk) 21:23, 17 February 2010 (UTC)

Proposal to become a task force of WP:Indiana

IT has been suggested at WP:WPIN that this project become a task for of WikiProject Indiana. It has been listed as inactive for some weeks now. If there is anyone opposed to this, or if the project is not inactive, would an active project member please give their opinion on this proposal? —Charles Edward (Talk | Contribs) 19:14, 19 February 2010 (UTC)

Response to proposal to become a task force of WP:Indiana

I've been a member of this group for a while and have had difficult getting responses to requests for review for articles I have; if making this project a task force of WP:Indiana will result in more reviews & interaction on these articles I agree with the proposal. ejly (talk) 20:36, 21 February 2010 (UTC)

Unreferenced living people articles bot

User:DASHBot/Wikiprojects provides a list, updated daily, of unreferenced living people articles (BLPs) related to your project. There has been a lot of discussion recently about deleting these unreferenced articles, so it is important that these articles are referenced.

The unreferenced articles related to your project can be found at >>>Wikipedia:WikiProject Indiana/Indianapolis/Archive 1/Unreferenced BLPs<<<

If you do not want this wikiproject to participate, please add your project name to this list.

Thank you.

Update: Wikipedia:WikiProject Indiana/Indianapolis/Archive 1/Unreferenced BLPs has been created. This list, which is updated by User:DASHBot/Wikiprojects daily, will allow your wikiproject to quickly identify unreferenced living person articles.
There maybe no or few articles on this new Unreferenced BLPs page. To increase the overall number of articles in your project with another bot, you can sign up for User:Xenobot_Mk_V#Instructions.
If you have any questions or concerns, visit User talk:DASHBot/Wikiprojects. Okip 00:46, 28 March 2010 (UTC)

Incorrect Biographical Information

I'm curious what to do about what appears to be incorrect biographical information I have found for a couple of people. Two that come to mind are Richard Jordan Gatling and Howard Garns

In the case of Garns, the article cited and the text of the Wiki article make it seem like he worked for a company at a time when he wasn't actually working for them. (See the discussion page for my info)

In the case of R J Gatling, the article states that he was president of Gatling Gun Co until 1897, however I found reference to a W H Talbott of Dresden Germany being president of that company in 1872. My sources are the old Indianapolis City Directories of the time period, and while there is the occasional error, I wouldn't assume that they would have been so wrong in the 1872 directory to have named the wrong person as the president of the company AND not show R J Gatling even residing in the city at that time. It is possible that Gatling was president, was not, and was again...but then the article needs to be corrected to show this information...similar to my comments about Garns. The article could be perfectly true, but the way it is written leads the reader to a mistaken assumption. --Conanian (talk) 19:24, 2 June 2010 (UTC)

I don't know. If you have the sources that would be fantastic if you could fix the articles and source them to what the book says. Thanks, Reywas92Talk 19:36, 2 June 2010 (UTC)
Here's the list of reference materials directly in my possession: R J Polk's Indianapolis City Directory 1886, 1889, 1898, 1905, 1908, 1912, 1918-1919, 1924, 1927, 1928, 1934, 1937, 1941, 1943, 1947. Indiana Bell Telephone Book: 1922, 1925, 1931, 1945, 1950, 1962 (No 'yellow pages' but the white pages of the time contained homes and businesses). I also have digital copies of the 1857, 1861, 1862, 1871/72, and 1872/73 Indianapolis City Directories as published by various publishers. Digital copies of the 1894 and 1913 Indianapolis Blue Book (an old form of a Who's Who book for members of society). IUPUI's digital library also has digital copies (non OCRd though!) of the city directories from 1858/59, 1880, 1914-1918, 1920, 1930, 1940, 1951, 1960, 1970, 1980. My dad started collecting these books about 10 years ago to aid us internally with some research on a couple of properties he owns. I guess I got turned into his official librarian because I get a kick out of doing research like this. I hesitate to directly modify entries such as Gatling, because one problem is that these directories are a year at a time snapshot of things and they sometimes mess things up. They make a great starting place though. Other records like stuff from the Sec'y of State's historic library would certainly help (Hmmm, I might have to go downtown and check out if they have anything on Gatling) give concrete evidence of things like corporate officers. I'm willing to look stuff up though and put it into discussion so people can use it to assist in gathering hard evidence. --Conanian (talk) 18:34, 4 June 2010 (UTC)
