Masoretic text

edit

I'd appreciate it if someone could look at the recent changes that an IP insists on making to the first sentence of Masoretic text. Zerotalk 10:56, 28 October 2024 (UTC)Reply

@Zero0000: Good call. Thanks. Sorry this wasn't picked up earlier; the project seems to be quiet. It seems to have been fixed by this update. Feline Hymnic (talk) 12:00, 3 January 2025 (UTC)Reply

Psalm numbering

edit

Where Psalm numbers differ between Masoretic Text and Septuagint (sometimes historically expressed in terms of "Protestant" and "Catholic" Bibles) most of our articles have some rather awkward wording near the top of the main text. For instance at Psalm 126: In the slightly different numbering system used in the Greek Septuagint version of the Bible and in the Latin Vulgate, this psalm is Psalm 125.

But there is now a good template {{Psalm nr}} as a very useful hatnote for those individual psalm articles. For instance at Psalm 126 it results in hatnote: This article is about Psalm 126 in Hebrew (Masoretic) numbering. For Psalm 126 in Greek Septuagint or Latin Vulgate numbering, see Psalm 127.

So, given that hatnote template, I propose that we remove the awkward, duplicate psalm-number wording near the top of the text of such articles.

Any objections? If not, I'll make a start in a few days. Feline Hymnic (talk) 11:33, 3 January 2025 (UTC)Reply

I got delayed in starting this. So...a reminder call for comments. Feline Hymnic (talk) 18:10, 29 March 2025 (UTC)Reply

I want to start contributing new material to our articles on books of the Bible, and I would strongly prefer sticking to the NRSVue when appropriate. Does anyone know precisely whether the NCC/Friendship Press's copyright policy, as regards to the "up to 500 verses with attribution" etc.[1] license, is compatible with direct inline quotation in articles? I'm not sure, even though it seems like it should be straightforward. Remsense 🌈  12:07, 7 June 2025 (UTC)Reply

Figured it out with the finer print, not sure why I didn't before: according to section V, an entry in the § References section stating
would seem to suffice? Remsense 🌈  19:22, 12 June 2025 (UTC)Reply
