Eurostar

Walkthroughs

I'm intrigued by the ideas presented in the template, but I did have a question regarding the walk-through item. Should that be a bullet list (as in Goliath) or a narrative, such as Top Thrill Dragster? Which does the project think would be better? To stand any chance of passing GA, it will need to be in prose. The hard task is to give a brief synopsis of the ride without going into excessive detail about the height of every element. I know it has all the hill heights, but at the same time that's almost all the coaster has, its airtime hills (not that there's anything wrong with that, of course). A bit of feedback:

• I'd say you have too much detail in there, as well as a lot of "jargon" - eg. overbanked horseshoe, bunny hops etc. Either wikilink these to relevant pages or get rid of them.
• Maybe consider changing coaster to roller coaster, whilst most enthusiasts use the term "coaster", there needs to be consistency here.
• You need to distinguish between whether the "train" turns left or the ride itself turns left - the subject switches back and forth a couple of times during the walkthrough.

Don't let those put you off, they are probably overly picky! Other than those points, I'd say carry on the good work :) Seaserpent⁸⁵ 10:46, 29 January 2008 (UTC)

No worries. I'm open to constructive criticism, and these comments give me something to work with on this particular article, and then I can take it and move forward to others. It does use a lot of simple jargon, but jargon nonetheless. We're striving for encyclopedic here. Update: I've finished revising it, and I've also revised the walkthrough for Kraken using some of the same ideas. Please take a look and see what else can be done. Sorry, I missed this until today. Could you please explain what you're trying to accomplish? You can find a list of roller coasters via using the category features here at Wikipedia, and you can find an even more complete list at RCDB. I'd personally rather concentrate on improving the articles here at Wikipedia than trying to build up an arbitrary list on someone's user page. That is, unless you have some plans to move it to article space at some time or some such. I guess I'm just confused what you're trying to accomplish, and hope you can clarify a bit. Spam and reliable sources

Hi. I just came across an IP editor 84.92.95.168 whose edits all appear to be to promote a group of related websites (themeparkjunkies.co.uk alton-towers.net and thorpeparkinsider.co.uk) I deleted some of the links (the ones on individual rides in particular did not appear to have anything significant to add to the articles) but found at least one addition was put in as a reference (see [1]) and thought I should check in with you experts on the appropriateness of these links as external links and reliable sources. See WP:EL for the official guidelines. In general, an article on a park or coaster should have only a couple or three links. One of them should be to the official park's website. Any additional links should only be provided if and only if they add significant value over and above what the park's website and the wikipedia article itself offer, OR if they're used as a significant source for the article in general. If someone is sprinkling links to a fansite on arbitrary pages they should indeed be removed. --Rehcsif (talk) 02:24, 26 March 2008 (UTC)

Rerating Requested

Changes to the WP:1.0 assessment scheme

As you may have heard, we at the Wikipedia 1.0 Editorial Team recently made some changes to the assessment scale, including the addition of a new level. The new description is available at WP:ASSESS.

• The new C-Class represents articles that are beyond the basic Start-Class, but which need additional references or cleanup to meet the standards for B-Class.
• The criteria for B-Class have been tightened up with the addition of a rubric, and are now more in line with the stricter standards already used at some projects.
• A-Class article reviews will now need more than one person, as described here.

Each WikiProject should already have a new C-Class category at Category:C-Class_articles. If your project elects not to use the new level, you can simply delete your WikiProject's C-Class category and clarify any amendments on your project's assessment/discussion pages. The bot is already finding and listing C-Class articles.

Mission Beach Roller Coaster

Why is the Giant Dipper in San Diego listed as the Mission Beach Roller Coaster here on Wikipedia where it is not listed as such anywhere else I can find. I know the Santa Cruz Giant Dipper is listed as Giant Dipper (roller coaster), but I cannot move the MBRC page to Giant Dipper (San Diego) as it has been protected from being created. Infobox Photography

I quickly browsed over some talk pages, and did not see a discussion pertaining to this subject so I thought this would be a good place to start (forgive me if I've overlooked a previous discussion). As for a standard on infobox pictures on roller coaster articles, do you think that the infobox image should include a picture of the ride's logo (whether it be a digital version, or a sign at the ride itself) or a picture of a dominating/signature element of the ride? I've always considered a picture of the logo, or the logo itself to be the best infobox picture, and actual ride images located in another section or mixed throughout the article.(Coasterman1234 (talk) 04:11, 24 November 2008 (UTC))

Request assessment for Manta

With the attraction's opening at hand, and preview rides already underway, I think it's time someone gave the article for Manta a good look to see how we can make it better. I have found some additional info on the attraction's design and technology; admittedly it's from press releases from the park, but at least it would have a source (third-party of course would be preferred). ACE was founded in 1978. First marathon took place in 1977.

GA Sweeps invitation

This message is being sent to WikiProjects with GAs under their scope. Since August 2007, WikiProject Good Articles has been participating in GA sweeps. The process helps to ensure that articles that have passed a nomination before that date meet the GA criteria. After nearly two years, the running total has just passed the 50% mark. In order to expediate the reviewing, several changes have been made to the process. A new worklist has been created, detailing which articles are left to review. Instead of reviewing by topic, editors can consider picking and choosing whichever articles they are interested in.

We are always looking for new members to assist with reviewing the remaining articles, and since this project has GAs under its scope, it would be beneficial if any of its members could review a few articles (perhaps your project's articles). Your project's members are likely to be more knowledgeable about your topic GAs then an outside reviewer. As a result, reviewing your project's articles would improve the quality of the review in ensuring that the article meets your project's concerns on sourcing, content, and guidelines. However, members can also review any other article in the worklist to ensure it meets the GA criteria.

If any members are interested, please visit the GA sweeps page for further details and instructions in initiating a review. If you'd like to join the process, please add your name to the running total page. In addition, for every member that reviews 100 articles from the worklist or has a significant impact on the process, s/he will get an award when they reach that threshold. Behemoth is a steel roller coaster at Canada's Wonderland in Vaughan, Ontario. Kings Island logo under wiki attack

All logo images on the Kings Island wiki page are up for deletion. Reasoning.. Being used as decoration. There is no discussion of the logo in the article and its there to illustrate the logo not the subject of the article. Clearly fails NFCC #8.

I count 9 diferent park logos are up for deletion on 26 aug if nothing is done to dispute the issue. This includes present and historical park logos used in the article. Would someone work on satifying this dispute before deletion?

Category:Megacoaster roller coasters...

...is redundant to the more populated Category:Megacoasters. Its four articles are already in that category, so I was simply going to remove the extra, redundant category, but it's apparently somehow being applied by Template:Infobox roller coaster. Only I can't find the category tag within the template code to remove it. postdlf (talk) 13:56, 21 November 2009 (UTC)

Never mind, I figured it out. "Megacoaster" was being added to the "type" parameter for four articles, which placed it in [[:Category:{{{type}}} roller coasters]], while the height parameter was also adding it to Category:Megacoasters. Century Flyer

I just wrote an article on the Century Flyer, a former amusement park ride built by National Amusement Devices. This is a 24-inch gauge miniature train. National Amusement Devices was a manufacturer of roller coasters. Apparently there are a few remaining Century Flyers still in existence. I was wondering if my article falls within your project? It's not technically a roller coaster - however it was built by a roller coaster company and it was a ride at an amusement park. Any guidance is appreciated! On-ride photos?

Many parks and forums, such as Theme Park Review, have a strong stance against anyone taking on-ride photos or videos unless they are professionals who do it with the park's permission. I saw that Superman: Krypton Coaster currently has on-ride photos such as [[File:FiestaTexas3.jpg]] in its gallery. Nothing on the image's page says that it was taken with the park's permission. Do these need to go? Should we have a guideline against this? --Idont Havaname (Talk) 02:48, 28 July 2012 (UTC)

While true that many parks and forums have a position against doing so, the reasoning they tend to cite is rider safety for both the person taking the photo/video and for the other riders around them. I'm not sure that's a good enough reason to ban the images and video from Wikipedia. They don't appear to be violating any copyright. Blue Streak of Woodcliffe Pleasure Park

There seems to be little info on the net and even less on Wikipedia about this coaster which, despite other claims, was the tallest in the world for decades. here is an old article on the park but has since been redirected. [2] on page 144 talks about it and there's a good pic here. There's varying numbers for its height, 120, 127, and 140 (!). I'm guessing 120 is the right number, as it saying The Beast is 141 is wrong (only the drop is) and of course Loch Ness Monster is 130 which is taller than the 127, and certainly taller than The Beast's 105/110 (which is it?). Anyway, this coaster has fascinated me ever since I read about it in that book years ago, and I'm curious if anyone has more info, and maybe could make an article? Merging of this project into WikiProject Amusement Parks

I have recently started a discussion at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Amusement Parks about the future of that project.
