Propose merging Template:Infobox FIBA tourney with Template:Infobox basketball tournament season.

  • Keep {{Infobox FIBA tourney}} actually does add features not available in {{Infobox basketball tournament season}}, such as it's usage of the type \ continent parameters to standardize looks for different competitions, its automated sequential title creation and automation of link creation to relevant nation team articles, among others. There is already a template to show emojis - Template:Emoji. Additionally, there is no need to create a template for each single emoji as was done with this template's subpages. Any usages should be replaced with {{Emoji}}. Gonnym (talk) 09:42, 13 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • Keep - I agree with deleting the subpages as seen at the nominations above. However, upon looking closer at Template:Emoji, you will find it has more emojis but is not very user friendly -- For instance, to display a basic smile ( ) you must use the following: {{emoji|263A}}
The goal of WEmoji is to provide Wikipedians with an easy-to-use, user-friendly system which has codes that are easy to memorize. If you use the other system, you'd need to constantly check the codes depending on the emoji. The code for a sunglasses emoji looks like this on Emoji: {{emoji|1F60E}}. The code for sunglasses on WEmoji looks like this: {{WEmoji|cool}}. In summary, the two templates are different -- Emoji is better supported, but not as refined. Current name Target name

Propose renaming Template:Infobox hiking trail to Template:Infobox trail.

  • Support - The term "trail" in Wikipedia referred to your classic hiking trail a long time ago, but has since been expanded to include all the other types of paths mentioned by the nominator here. Therefore I think renaming the infobox as suggested here makes sense and should be harmless. Tangential Comment - I have done a lot of work recently on "trail" articles for Pennsylvania (a topic for which I am knowledgeable), which informs my vote above. However I would like to point out that navigation boxes and categories for "trails" are in really bad shape throughout Wikipedia, due to the definitional issues merely introduced in this discussion about the infobox name. Navboxes for "hiking" trails are polluted with things that do not fall under the definition of hiking (see Template:Maryland hiking trails as just one example among hundreds), pure "hiking" trails appear in navboxes and categories for old railroad tracks that are now bike trails, sidewalks alongside freeways (e.g. US 202 Parkway Trail) have been categorized as hiking, and lots of other confusion in every conceivable direction. I have fixed this problem for Pennsylvania, but for anyone interested in this general topic area, cleaning this up for the rest of the world will give you Wikipedia work for months to come. ---DOOMSDAYER520 (TALK|CONTRIBS) 18:07, 20 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • May I please make a couple of supplementary suggestions. (1) For trails in the UK, can we have an alternative to "Trailheads"? A trailhead is an American concept that refers to a location specifically intended as the start or end point for a hike (or bike ride, or whatever), most often consisting of a dedicated parking area and typically with toilets (rest rooms), information boards, a distribution point for brochures and leaflets, and so on. Such trailheads are not at all common in the UK. In Infoboxes on UK trails, the "trailhead" is usually given as a town or village (rightly so). For exammple, for the Cross Borders Drove Road, one of the "trailheads" is listed as Hawick which is a town of 10,000 people which just happens to be the start or end of the route. So my suggestion is that the Infobox should have an alternative parameter: "Start and end points". (This probably applies to trails in most European countries, not just the UK.)
(2) My second suggestion is that, when giving "Elevation gain/loss" in the Infobox, editors should specify in which direction is the gain and which is the loss.
