Houston Wikipedia Edit-a-thon at the Emerson Unitarian Universalist Church in Houston, Texas.

A day on, not a day off! In recognition of the birthday of Martin Luther King, Jr. the Houston Yale Black Alumni Association is holding a Houston Wikipedia Edit-a-thon at the Emerson Unitarian Universalist Church in Houston, Texas.

Wikipedia is a well-known and widely used global resource, yet content is skewed by the lack of diversity in race, ethnicity, and gender of average Wikipedia contributors. This event is modeled after culture and software movements that aim to help close the multicultural and gender gaps in Wikipedia such as Art+Feminism and AfroCROWD.

On Monday, January 18th from 11:00 am − 3:00 pm in Room 206 of the Emerson Unitarian Universalist Church at 1900 Bering Drive get free training on becoming a Wikipedia editor. Bring your laptop, power cord, and enthusiasm! We'll be editing articles on Houston. Taking 42 seconds (yes I timed it) to create a Wikipedia account before Monday is recommended.

No experience is necessary and don't worry if you can't attend for the entire time. Also, this event is kid-friendly! More information about articles for editing will be added soon.
