21lima I felt a little motivation to convert the Distinctive Unit Insignia, so I have it uploaded. I opted to go with solid colors instead of gradients. I had just enough motivation to convert the image but not enough to try to match the gradients hence the solid colors. Please extract the triple-slashed "O" for independent use -- 70.51.45.76 (talk) 06:01, 17 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Graphist opinion(s)
Since it's already an SVG, I suggest you should download and use Inkscape to extract the particular shape you want (either the lowercase or uppercase letter "O") from the file directly. This is a simple operation and since the request is for "independent use", learning Inkscape would be useful for you as well.
Cheers, Mliu92 (talk) 18:54, 19 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
The request is for independent use as in separate from the whole logo. It is for use on Wikipedia articles, independent of the whole image, as it is already stated in the request. I cannot use the O independently if it is set inside the whole title on any article on Wikipedia without using the whole title. How is this not a proper request? -- 70.51.45.76 (talk) 05:00, 20 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • GRRM - the author of the fictional universe, "George R.R. Martin"
  • "A Song of Ice and Fire" the name of the fictional universe, for which many articles exist on Wikipedia, and across various language Wikipedias.
  • "Game of Thrones" the frequently used name for this franchise, and the logo in the image file. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.51.45.76 (talk) 05:08, 20 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Anonymous IP editor: Where did I state this is "not a proper request"? The suggestion I made to learn basic Inkscape operations was for your own benefit. Please be courteous in your future requests. Cheers, Mliu92 (talk) 06:19, 20 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • For some reason, Mediawiki/librsvg was chopping the extreme right edge off the png thumbnails it made from this file (nothing wrong with the svg). I added a 1 px gap all round, which seems to "fix" the issue. -- Begoon 07:28, 20 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Grand Rapids, Michigan Flag and Seal

Grand Rapids MI Seal
Article(s)
Grand Rapids, Michigan
Request

Requesting cleaner versions of the flag and seal of Grand Rapids, Michigan. Both original files are very dated and are sloppy. Here are some additional resources for those up to the task; this is a more colored version of the seal with the American red, white and blue shield and colored sky, though this image shows the details and lines of the seal. As for the flag, here is an example of the color and format. Updating these files would be greatly appreciated!--WMrapids (talk) 08:01, 15 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Graphist opinion(s)
@WMrapids: Which of the examples would you prefer to be the main source for the conversion to a .svg file?
'A' this is a more colored version of the seal
'B' image shows the details and lines of the seal
'C' here is an example of the color and format
Due to the original date of the seal, I would pick the 'A' version since the font style is more appropriate for the 1850 date of the seals creation. In my opinion (imo) the 'B' versions font is too modern for the year 1850. IMO the two circles in the seal should be dotted like the 'A' version and not the 'C' version's rectangles.--Vwanweb (talk) 19:14, 7 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Vwanweb: I agree with the dotted borders. I prefer a little of 'A' and 'B'. From 'A', the original design, font and color and from 'B', the more distinguished light rays that you cannot see well in the metal portion of 'A'.
The finished seal should have the dotted borders, original font and blue-ish clouds with the hand emerging holding the black scale. Light rays in a similar color scheme to the sunset in the Seal of Michigan should be emerging from behind the naturally colored bald eagle carrying the arrows and tricolor shield. The Seal of Grand Rapids was designed in the same period of the Seal of Michigan, so the colors on this should be helpful.
Also, here is the history of the seal. You can see in the original that there may also be an olive branch held to the right of the arrows by the eagle, similar to other American imagery. I hope this helps you!--WMrapids (talk) 02:36, 8 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Request taken by Vwanweb (talk) 12:59, 9 September 2017 (UTC). Thank you for the feedback on the items I brought forward. I will take a shot at this for you. I just want to ask for your patient up front, since the example graphic is pixel heavy.[reply]

Thank you and I understand. For the flag, I'm not sure if the colored seal should be used or not due to the existing flag (see 'C'). If there is a way to see the flag with both the colored seal and uncolored seal, that would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again!--WMrapids (talk) 17:58, 9 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Vwanweb: One thing I forgot to mention. Existing images of the Grand Rapids flag makes it appear that the two blue colored bands are similar in color to the Flag of Michigan. What I am thinking is that they adopted the Michigan colors while designing the Grand Rapids flag.--WMrapids (talk) 17:18, 6 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia:WikiProject Women's Health
Request
Can you design a more 'trendy' image for WikiProject Women's Health? Since I am the most active contributor at this time, it is probably appropriate that I request this. I can sketch up something but if you want to do this, great! I am thinking about a silhouette of a pregnant woman facing one direction and a silhouette of an elderly woman facing the other direction. Superimposed over the silhouette can be the medical staff symbol in a dark pink shade.(not the 'circle/upside-down cross symbol' since that seems more to be a Project Feminism thing). I would also need a related image that would look related to this first one but would be identifiable as a logo for a stub. Thank you! Barbara (WVS)   14:19, 26 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Graphist opinion(s)
@Barbara (WVS): It's a very tardy reply, but I took your concept literally, found some photographs to trace, and came up with the logo above. Let me know what you think. Cheers, Mliu92 (talk) 04:02, 7 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I love the graphic of the older woman, but I've never seen a pregnant woman stand like this. (I've known a lot of pregnant women). How we stand when we are pregnant is to rest our hands on top of the belly and look down. Also, I'd like a less European silhouette of the pregnant woman, perhaps a 'bun' on top of her head is more interntional-looking. The 'dress' should drape down after passing over her belly. I hope that I am not being too fussy here. I appreciate the work that you've done.

I am not sure why it is so, but would appreciate if someone could correct it (or better yet, tell me how to ensure my Inkscape 0.91 will stop doing this). This is a little picky, but I would love to get this cleaned up. I created this schematic but I had to do the blue tinged surface and borehole edges as separate straight-edges, and I wasn't able to make them match up perfectly. All six corners where the surface turns -- around the borehole, and in the borehole -- show signs of the joins. I tried to clean it up with Photoscape and the clone stamp tool but couldn't get it perfect. Can this be done? Also, the very left hand edge of the surface (left of where it says "Charge pump for feeding high pressure pumps") is a little uneven. The Las Vegas shooting involved an semi-automatic rifle augmented via a "bump fire" system. Editing the article, I bumped* into nice visuals[1,2].
[1]: From Single Shots to Automatics: How Firearms Work https://nyti.ms/2yLUGX0
[2]: What Is a Bump Stock and How Does It Work? https://nyti.ms/2yJhw1t
The video [1] can be a nice model for animated gif on
1. semi-automatic bumped at 0'48",
2. automatic 0'23",
3. semi-automatic 0'16".
The animations needed require few layers and should be fairely feasible. The single shot is not to draw, as it is more complex with hand putting back a new bullet in place. -- Yug (talk) 11:02, 7 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Graphist opinion(s)

An animation gif is already in Bump fire article. Aren't you satisfied with it?―― Phoenix7777 (talk) 11:35, 7 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

First, thanks for raising up this animation, it wasn't on the article when I discovered the article and started to look for visuals.
Secondly I was thinking of a global shot*, 3 animated gifs making a series.
Last, now that I examinate this new gif, the trigger balance mechanism is lightly different from the NYT's visualisation, there the finger are visible, and the product (bullet holes) as well.
It's good we have this new animation, and it indeed lower the need for new animations.
Still, the NYT visuals linked above seems to provide more clarity, so it would be interesting to make these 3 new, cleaner animated visuals as requested. --Yug (talk) 15:06, 7 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
