Self-nomination. Extensive work has been carried out on this portal and I now feel that it's up to FP standards. I requested a peer review months ago but nothing came of it. The portal is quite low maintenance, with random features and Wikinews imports, all that needs to happen is a picture change once a month. After reading some other FPOCs here I'll get to work on a randomized DYK section. Many thanks, --Joowwww (talk) 16:33, 21 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

- Selected article - Would be nice to have (at least) 10 selections here. Currently only has 9, I am sure there must be other good articles to choose from. Cirt (talk) 01:05, 26 September 2008 (UTC) Done 10 for the moment. --Joowwww (talk) 22:00, 1 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- Selected biography - Currently 8 selected, would be nice to have more. Might try reformatting both Selected article and Selected biography sections after Portal:Sustainable development. Cirt (talk) 01:05, 26 September 2008 (UTC) Done 10 for the moment --Joowwww (talk) 14:04, 3 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- Nice usage of Wikinews Importer Bot (talk · contribs). Cirt (talk) 01:05, 26 September 2008 (UTC) Done --Joowwww (talk) 21:46, 1 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- Did you know - 3 static entries and no free-use image. Portal:Norway/DYK is a good model to use for randomization setup. Cirt (talk) 01:05, 26 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- Not done. Cirt (talk) 22:39, 25 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- Done 4 random DYKs at the moment, more when I can find more decent facts. --Joowwww (talk) 22:34, 13 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- Picture of the month - Why not just straight randomization of Selected pictures, like at Portal:Science? Also if possible please wikilink or link the credits. Cirt (talk) 01:05, 26 September 2008 (UTC) Done --Joowwww (talk) 11:31, 4 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- Not done - Please wikilink or link the credits. Cirt (talk) 22:37, 25 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- Done --Joowwww (talk) 21:10, 28 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- Things you can do - Could be formatted better. Portal:Indiana has a good model for this. Cirt (talk) 01:05, 26 September 2008 (UTC) Done --Joowwww (talk) 20:57, 3 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- Still looks a bit choppy. Would look better if the bolded things to do were linked, like in Portal:Comedy. Cirt (talk) 22:39, 25 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- Other projects - This should be split into 2 separate subsections, Related portals and Associated Wikimedia. Cirt (talk) 01:05, 26 September 2008 (UTC) Done --Joowwww (talk) 20:46, 3 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- UN-related content on Wikipedia - The name of this subsection is a bit self-referential. Also, it should be split into 2 subsections: Categories, and Main topics. Cirt (talk) 01:05, 26 September 2008 (UTC) Done --Joowwww (talk) 21:46, 1 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- Not done - Categories is squished to the side, could use its own row at 100%. Other projects has a redlink. Topics as well could use its own row. Cirt (talk) 22:42, 25 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- Done --Joowwww (talk) 21:10, 28 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- Would be nice if the Selected quotes had associated free-use images - Portal:Sustainable development has a good model of how to reformat this. Cirt (talk) 01:05, 26 September 2008 (UTC) Done --Joowwww (talk) 10:55, 6 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The SA, SP, SB need instructions on the archive pages how to nominate/add new ones. feydey (talk) 09:43, 22 October 2008 (UTC) Done --Joowwww (talk) 20:25, 10 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

- Support - I think this portal is looking great, although I do have some suggestions for the future. You will definitely want to add more selections; right now it sits around the minimum of 10 selections for every section, and there are probably more articles, biographies, and pictures available on Wikipedia. There are also some more personal preferences, like having two footer links: one for the selection itself and one for the archive like at Portal:Criminal justice, and creating a system for adding new selections like at Portal:Criminal justice/Selected article. But the portal already has a way to edit selections and recommend new ones so these are just suggestions for consideration. --Jh12 (talk) 16:38, 22 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I'm nominating this portal for featured portal candidacy because I think it meets the criteria. I've been working on this for a while, revamping its complicated design, into a well designed portal, with a random portal component on everything. It has 20 selected articles, 17 selected pictures, 16 sets of 3 DYKs (48 in total), 20 selected biographies, in the news component, 17 selected quotes, and 10 panaromas along with categories, related wikiprojects, quality content, things you can do, topics, related portals and associated wikimedia sections. Sunderland06 (talk) 02:24, 1 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- Support: This meets all the FPo criteria, so there is no reason for it to not be promoted. Dendodge TalkContribs 15:21, 1 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, it needs credits for all the images (see Portal:The Beatles for examples). Consider my !vote oppose until that is fixed, when it will automagically change to support. Dendodge TalkContribs 22:50, 1 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]- All images are now credited. Sunderland06 (talk) 04:22, 2 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

This portal is still up at WP:PPREV, with some unaddressed issues there. One of these two discussions needs to be closed before this can continue. Cirt (talk) 23:00, 1 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- Now removed from WP:PPREV. Sunderland06 (talk) 02:34, 2 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- Rotating intro images
This might be a nice idea to improve dynamism, see a model in use at WP:FPORTs, Portal:Iceland/Intro and Portal:Philosophy of science/Intro. Cirt (talk) 13:38, 7 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- Done, added six images. Sunderland06 (talk) 23:35, 8 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
- Very nice! Cirt (talk) 13:13, 9 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

- Saw this at peer review and it looks really good. The only thing I can see is that three of your box headers are in italics (Categories, Related WikiProjects, Associated Wikimedia). Please standardize all the headers to be one way or the other. --Jh12 (talk) 18:55, 13 January 2009 (UTC) Done cheers for the comment.[reply]
- Support. Beautiful. The only thing I could find to criticise is that there are a few redlinks in some of the descriptions. Espresso Addict (talk) 04:23, 14 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Self-nomination. See the archived peer review, tho there was only one response. There are over 120 maps of a wide varying type, not including the ones in articles and bios. I believe this portal meets all the criteria and should be promoted. Thanks. Joe I 19:28, 4 November 2008 (UTC) [reply]

- Support - I agree with Cirt that News, Did you know, or other randomized content would be nice, but given the nature of this portal and its overall quality I am going to go ahead and support. Consider adding the read more links or incorporating some of Cirt's suggestions over time. One last thing though: please add captions for all of the images in the portal. --Jh12 (talk) 13:13, 8 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- Wow, thanks for the help with captions, I did do the featured maps section. And I will finish the others. Thanks Joe I 16:05, 11 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- OK, I believe all pics have a caption. I updated all rotated maps to a layout template. Thanks. Joe I 04:38, 15 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

- Missing: A Did you know section, for a way to format it, see Portal:Norway/DYK. Cirt (talk) 22:35, 25 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- Missing: A News section, and/or Events section (daily/weekly or monthly), or both. Cirt (talk) 22:35, 25 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- Missing: Featured content or expand to all GA and FA content box. Cirt (talk) 22:35, 25 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- Not meaning to sound rude, but these are not required in the criteria or guidelines so , not missing, only suggested additions. It's very difficult to find excerpts and headlines on individual maps, when they are meant for articles. All of the featured maps are in the Featured map section, therefore another featured content box would be redundant. Joe I 07:50, 27 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- Would be really nice to have a Selected quote section, with quotes from notable individuals with existing bio articles on Wikipedia and free-use images about Atlas, maps, mapmaking, geography, or other related topics. See Portal:Comedy/Selected quote for an idea. Cirt (talk) 22:35, 25 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- Started a quote section. 13 there now, and I'll more soon. Joe I 07:50, 27 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- Surely there must be some other related portals? Cirt (talk) 22:35, 25 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- Added one more, but that's about all I could find closely related. Joe I 07:50, 27 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- Topics would look better if left-aligned. Cirt (talk) 22:35, 25 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- Is there a specific reason or merely a personal preference? Joe I 07:50, 27 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- Support- the portals looks amazing. but can replace the title from more maps to just maps. else everything seems perfect to me. the portal is very well organized. Good work has been put up. Sushant gupta (talk) 11:41, 30 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- Changed to Maps. Thanks 15:15, 30 November 2008 (UTC)
