Bill Russell (born 1934) is a retired American professional basketball player, widely considered one of the best in National Basketball Association (NBA) history. Playing center for the Boston Celtics, he was the centerpiece of their dynasty and his shot-blocking and man-to-man defense were major reasons for the team's success. A five-time NBA Most Valuable Player and a twelve-time All-Star, he won 11 NBA championships during his 13-year career, and jointly holds the record for the most championships won by an athlete in a North American sports league. He led the NBA in rebounds four times, and remains second all-time in both total rebounds and rebounds per game. Russell was the first African American player to achieve superstar status in the NBA and the first African American NBA coach. For his accomplishments in the Civil Rights Movement on and off the court, he was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2011. Russell is a member of three basketball Halls of Fame (Naismith Memorial, National Collegiate, and FIBA) and the NBA Finals Most Valuable Player Award is named in his honor. "Controversies" and "Doping" edits to Dimitris Melissanidis and Ioannis Bourousis

Can you help me out with this? I am having this discussion with the user Partoni about his edits to these articles, mainly the one at Ioannis Bourousis, but also the edits at Melissanidis are of the same nature, and how they to me are inappropriate. Another editor, Wikimedit, seems to have also had the same issue with him over the edits at the Melissanidis article for awhile now, only he seems to have been getting warned about vandalism at his talk page and not to be removing the edits by mods. Even though those edits don't seem really all that appropriate. So I don't want to get into any edit war or anything because of course that's against site rules, but also because it looks like Partoni is quick to report someone who removes his edits. Basically, he is making edits to these articles that are very accusatory against these individuals, of things they were being accused of in the media awhile ago, and that were proven to be false and untrue, and he is editing the articles to make it appear as if they were true. And he is linking sources that makes it look that way, since there are a lot of sources that were simply reporting the accusations from that time. I have tried to discuss this with the editor, but they don't seem to want to discuss this. I tried to make some compromise edits, leaving the edits, but changing the wording, so as not to word it to look like Bourousis was guilty of doping, when he was not, and even leaving the sources, and they edited it back to show things that were later proven to be nonsense through an official investigation. The user Wikimedit also explained in the edit history of the Melissanidis page that those edits were controversial because that stuff had been disproved in court and so forth, but then the edits got put right back. Both of these guys are connected to AEK Athens club, which is a rival of Panathinaikos club, Bourousis also to Olympiacos club, which is also a rival to Panathinaikos club. So I am wondering if their might be some kind of Panathinaikos fan driven bias here. I don't want to make any accusations, but these kinds of edits look possibly agenda driven to me to be honest about it. So I think we need to have a discussion on this, and I would like your input on this. I already have been discussing it with Partoni like I said, and I also sent a message to Wikimedit about it too. Well, let me give you an example. If a player is found to be "doping", in Europe, which includes both testing and evidence, such as being caught on tape "buying dope", they are suspended by WADA for 2-4 years depending on how WADA judges the severity of the issue. Bourousis has never ever been suspended. According to the claims being made on his article, he was caught doping and buying drugs on tape by the government. That would be an automatic 2-4 year suspension by WADA. He never missed a single game in his entire career for a drug suspension. Simple facts like that alone is enough to prove beyond any shadow of a doubt how ridiculous and absurd these edits are and that they all of these accusations are to these that were proven to be false accusations and that he was exonerated of any such claims of any of that. Any rational person would know that and I think that alone should be enough for the standard of the site, along with that he volunteered and passed the WADA tests. If any of that was true, that he was caught buying PEDs on tape by the government, he would be suspended 2-4 years by WADA. They do not give any allowance of any kind. There is zero tolerance for anyone of such issues. And that would be a slam dunk and absolute shut case as far as they concern it. It is automatic ban for anything like that. Yet he never in his career has been suspended for even one single game. So edits like that where none of that is even clarified, and instead absolutely go out of their way to imply he doped, bought PEDs, etc and all of that, certainly seem way out of bounds to me.Bluesangrel (talk) 00:46, 12 September 2014 (UTC)

WADA does not publish when someone passes a test only when they fail a test. I remember it was said that he had to clear his name because of this and volunteered to WADA and he passed the tests. This was years ago so I would have absolutely no idea where to even begin to look for that. Looking for sources of such obscure stuff like that in Greek is much harder than it is in English. What I am explaining is that all athletes are immediately banned for 2-4 years if they are caught on tape by the government buying PEDs. In fact, that is most likely a lifetime ban from the sport. Bourousis was never banned for even a single game. I don't understand why this is even a debate to be honest. Maybe we should discuss with someone that edits in WADA article or someone that edits in football or cycling or Olympic articles or something like that. Because the edits as claimed are simply an impossibility. That is all I am saying. It is nothing like the NBA, where the NBA itself is in charge of the drug policies. WADA is in charge of all the drug policies in Europe for the athletes, and such a situation, if it was true, would be actually, probably a lifetime ban for the player. Yet again, he never has been suspended in his career for even one single game. I think maybe the correct burden of proof here would be for anyone to provide a source showing where he has been suspended for even once game in his career due to a PED suspension. So maybe we should as someone that edits in like I don't know maybe Lance Armstrong articles, or maybe something like this? I am not an expert or anything close to it at all in this topic, so I need more info here, but I know for sure that the edits as they are made are wrong. If a player will get even a very minor drug situation in Europe he is immediately suspended for 2 years, and this stuff being said of Bourousis is extreme. And again, they are claiming Greek League did not test which is a nonsense, because it has no bearing. Euroleague tests also the whole year, so that does not matter and as I said testing does not even matter itself, simple evidence counts, such as being caught on tape buying PEDs. It would be automatic suspension by WADA. Players gets suspended for much less than this. Those edits really should be removed. It is as I said the same as the edits he made at the other article. Could you try talk to the other editor Wikimedit? He seems like he knows the same issue from the edits Partoni was making to the Dimitris Melissanidis article. I think you should try talk to that editor just to get an idea here. I tried to talk to him but have not got a response back yet. Well this is a very hard issue, since there just won't be sources for this readily available I think without directly contacting WADA about it. I will ask a very knowledgeable editor that edits a lot in the Greek wiki for his opinion on it and to discuss it with us. Would that be OK?Bluesangrel (talk) 00:04, 16 September 2014 (UTC)

Yes, that article confirms that he did in fact volunteer for drug tests at the time because of this and that he did pass them, which allowed him to play in the both the Italian League (which also tests) and in FIBA (which of course tests) with the Greek national team, and it also mentions, as I said, that the Euroleague also tested during that season, even though the Greek league did not, so the statements that there was no testing in the Greek League is a bit pointless, because he also played in Euroleague, and you get tested by both leagues, not just the domestic league. The article also points out as I said, that indeed it was talking about "medicines" and there was laughing and joking and it was never explicitly verified or proven what was being talked about, nor was there ever any such proof of anything such as "being caught on tape buying dope", or any of these such allegations as it is framed that way. Only that was indeed all speculation. It was all speculation. There was no such thing as being caught on tape buying dope, only people in the media speculating that was what it was. There was also no failed doping test, or doping suspension, only media claiming that, just as I said. So yes, that article confirms what I was saying. It also is like I told you, as that article comes from Italian media, that also this how it is very hard to even see this info from Greek media showing how it was all proven as speculation. But that all the accusations still are easy to find. Because as I said, the journalists reported the stuff are basically pro Panathinaikos journalists, which of course Bourousis was a logical target for them, since he is a well-known AEK and Olympiacos player, and those are the two huge rivals really of Panathinaikos. Unfortunately, that is how much of the sports reporting goes in Greece. So to even get basic confirmation and clarification on the stuff it is no surprise that Italian media was needed. So the question is now then, how should I properly edit this? I have concerns, because I think Partoni is going to come back and change the edits back again, because they did that before more than once already when I changed them, and I won't want to get into an edit war.Bluesangrel (talk) 23:55, 18 September 2014 (UTC)

I searched some more through Greek media and I found a source showing Bourousis was cleared of the charges and did submit to drug tests and passed them in Greek media. This source states that the entity that is in control of monitoring the doping of the Greek national athletes, so in this case Greek national team ordered for Bourousis to submit to doping control after these reports came out. A couple of weeks later the results of the tests came out and they were clean and he was cleared then to play with the Greek national team. For a reference point, this doping control entity has to send all of their samples to also be tested by WADA, and that is why they have to wait for the results to come back. I never said it had to be removed, I even allowed the section before, I just said the edits had to be removed as they were in the manner as Partoni is making them. Partoni is making them to appear that Bourousis was caught on tape buying dope and was suspended for buying dope, and all this other stuff, which none of that was true at all. And the problem is, you can make edits to Wikipedia like that when they are untrue. And also that like I said before, if I tried to edit it, and talk to him about it, not even remove it, just explain it, he reverted it back. And when I tried to discuss it with Partoni, they claimed the issue was true in the way they edited it. I will try to edit it as best I see is realistic, but I have a feeling Partoni will edit it back. Maybe they won't though if I put these sources in though. It's just that I explained all that before in my discussion with them, and they simply said I was wrong about it all and it did not know how it happened and that Bourousis was guilty of everything basically.Bluesangrel (talk) 01:14, 19 September 2014 (UTC)

OK I edited it and I tried to make it reflect the issue as it happened as he was accused and as he was cleared. I also tried to update the article and to make it look more professional as it was not looking so encyclopedic. I didn't think we really needed separate sections with titles like doping controversy and chair to the head so I just added them within the article. List of National Basketball Association players (W–Z) → Mike Wallace?

Hey Zag, I removed removed "Mike Wallace (basketball)" from List of National Basketball Association players (W–Z) because that player doesn't exist on basketball-reference.com as a former ABA, NBA, or even NBL player. I had thought that a vandal named Mike Wallace may have added himself onto the list but I see where you had included him in the article's original version. I'm wondering where you got information that a player named Mike Wallace existed? If I'm wrong, please correct me and show me a reference, but I'm just confused where that info came from. Thanks! Dick Klein (basketball)

When you created Dick Klein (basketball) back in 2006, you added it in with a number of "ibid" references. As you can imagine, ibids are not helpful as a reference and create more complications for others to edit. Rather than trying to guess, do you know what the ibids were referring to there? You include separate references for Sachare and Hirsley so it could be the Tribune piece but I doubt that was a multi-page piece so I don't know. -- Ricky81682 (talk) 05:35, 22 November 2015 (UTC)

Actually, are you the same person as User:50.179.194.186? I was just curious about the change from Libertyville to Lake Bluff. I always thought Lambs Farm was in Libertyville, and that's what they list as their address. However, their publications also use the phrase "near Libertyville". Extended confirmed protection

Hello, Zagalejo. This message is intended to notify administrators of important changes to the protection policy.

Extended confirmed protection (also known as "30/500 protection") is a new level of page protection that only allows edits from accounts at least 30 days old and with 500 edits. The automatically assigned "extended confirmed" user right was created for this purpose. The protection level was created following this community discussion with the primary intention of enforcing various arbitration remedies that prohibited editors under the "30 days/500 edits" threshold to edit certain topic areas.

In July and August 2016, a request for comment established consensus for community use of the new protection level. Administrators are authorized to apply extended confirmed protection to combat any form of disruption (e.g. vandalism, sock puppetry, edit warring, etc.) on any topic, subject to the following conditions:

• Extended confirmed protection may only be used in cases where semi-protection has proven ineffective. It should not be used as a first resort.
• A bot will post a notification at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard of each use. MusikBot currently does this by updating a report, which is transcluded onto the noticeboard.

Please review the protection policy carefully before using this new level of protection on pages. Thank you.

A new user right for New Page Patrollers

Hi Zagalejo.

A new user group, New Page Reviewer, has been created in a move to greatly improve the standard of new page patrolling. The user right can be granted by any admin at PERM. It is highly recommended that admins look beyond the simple numerical threshold and satisfy themselves that the candidates have the required skills of communication and an advanced knowledge of notability and deletion. Admins are automatically included in this user right.

It is anticipated that this user right will significantly reduce the work load of admins who patrol the performance of the patrollers. However,due to the complexity of the rollout, some rights may have been accorded that may later need to be withdrawn, so some help will still be needed to some extent when discovering wrongly applied deletion tags or inappropriate pages that escape the attention of less experienced reviewers, and above all, hasty and bitey tagging for maintenance. User warnings are available here but very often a friendly custom message works best.

Unprotection/Protection request for Ricky Rubio

I haven't seen any racist vandalism for a while on this article, which is the reason you described for putting this article on Pending Changes. Would it be possible to either remove the Pending Changes or at best replace it with semi-protection on the grounds of persistent addition of unsourced or poorly sourced content?
