I apologize, I am the person that this page is about; I'm attempting to create a page for my brand to solidify our online presence and "googleability."

Having some issues with the editor, and to be honest I'm not sure this info was supposed to go here. Please don't delete this just yet, I'm working on fixing it.

A tag has been placed on Josh “Yasyszcjosh” Bieuz-Yasyszczuk, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, group, product, service, person, or point of view and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.

Conflict of interest

edit

Hello, Yasyszcjosh. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Blocked

You have been blocked indefinitely from editing because your account is being used only for advertising or promotion.
If you think there are good reasons for being unblocked, please read the guide to appealing blocks, then add the following text below the block notice on your talk page: {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}.

Athaenara 02:35, 28 March 2022 (UTC)Reply

Please explain how an article about a charitable movement that has actually created impact is promotional or advertising.

Due respect, but what the fuck do I stand to gain? Yasyszcjosh (talk) 02:57, 28 March 2022 (UTC)Reply

Good subject ≠ good article content. Promotional writing is promotional regardless of the subject's history. Bsoyka (talk) 03:00, 28 March 2022 (UTC)Reply

I’d again ask for clarification on what exactly was “promotional.”

For the page about myself, sure, I can see it being considered promotional.

The NiagaraGives page, however, is a different story. It doesn’t sell anything, it’s completely non-profit, employees and volunteers are unpaid, and it focuses on community impact. Our parent org GivingTuesday has a Wiki, as do many other local movements. You’re saying ours is somehow different?

Furthermore, there is already a public conflict of interest disclosure on my user page regarding the article, which in essence disclaims any promotion or advertising. Yasyszcjosh (talk) 03:05, 28 March 2022 (UTC)Reply

I can't see the contents of the deleted page, but I will say that disclosing a COI absolutely does not just disprove any claims of promotion. Having a COI is different from actual promotional wording on a page, although the two are often linked. Bsoyka (talk) 03:23, 28 March 2022 (UTC)Reply

What use, then, is a conflict of interest if not to disclose a conflict of interest?

I agree with you in that simply having a public disclosure doesn’t necessarily dispel promotional intent, but it’s surely more transparent that anyone trying to take advantage would offer.

How do I get myself unblocked in this case; I’ll try again with a page for NiagaraGives and work with admins to ensure it’s not promotional. I can provide multiple recent references which show notability — at least as it relates to Ontario Yasyszcjosh (talk) 03:32, 28 March 2022 (UTC)Reply

See the guide to appealing blocks. Bsoyka (talk) 04:09, 28 March 2022 (UTC)Reply
@Yasyszcjosh: please see Wikipedia:Wikipedia is not here to tell the world about your noble cause. – Athaenara 04:26, 28 March 2022 (UTC)Reply

Understandable, and that’s not the point of having a page created. It’s to 1) provide a knowledgeable reference point for people that need reliable information about our movement, and 2) to increase community confidence by having reliable information available (Wikipedia page is easily accessible and reliable) Yasyszcjosh (talk) 05:39, 28 March 2022 (UTC)Reply

Wikipedia is not the place to share original information about this movement. We summarize what is verifiable from reliable and independent sources. If you want a place to share reliable information about your cause that isn't verifiable in other sources, start a website instead. Bsoyka (talk) 12:00, 28 March 2022 (UTC)Reply

All of the information was verifiable from mainstream news sources but you do you, I guess.

It’s really nice to see Wikipedia become a place where random scammers get pages but truly impactful entities do not.

I won’t push the matter further, fuck it Yasyszcjosh (talk) 20:14, 28 March 2022 (UTC)Reply
