Block on Wiktionary

Wikitionary is a different project. If you are blocked there, you need to contest your block there. Yamla (talk) 15:37, 28 September 2020 (UTC)

Yamla, on wiktionary the administrator SemperBlotto blocked me & my ability to make edits, even to my discussion page. His reason block me was "vandalism." He gave 3 days of a block. He did not communicate with me at all, nor did he add verify sense the the definitions I added, which were for Sabir, Lingua Franca. I am a prolific contributor on wiktionary, and I don't vandalize; I don't know any other recourse than to come to another project and seek help. I can't contact administrators on Wiktionary, nor can I appeal it there on my own talk page. Aearthrise (talk) 15:46, 28 September 2020 (UTC)
Sorry, but I'm not sure what you are expecting here. I have nothing to do with Wiktionary. It's a different project. I literally can't do anything for you. They may have something similar to WP:UTRS but you'd have to check. --Yamla (talk) 15:52, 28 September 2020 (UTC)
Thank you for the suggestion Yamla. Aearthrise (talk) 16:11, 28 September 2020 (UTC)

Regarding your message on my talk

I never used the VPN to edit wikipedia. I used it for another site. To my knowledge I never even visited wikipedia while the VPN was on, as I normally only enable it when using the e-learning website. I'm completely stumped as to why wikipedia is seeing me in an IP address block that I'm not in.--125.129.16.99 (talk) 02:37, 1 October 2020 (UTC)

You must have visited Wikipedia while the VPN was on. That's how Wikipedia determined it. It would be technically impossible for Wikipedia to know otherwise. --Yamla (talk) 10:42, 1 October 2020 (UTC)
Yes, the weird thing is that it was letting me edit my talk page under the correct IP address, so it was seeing me both in and out of the range. it seemed to be a cookie or something, after clearing them repeatedly, I was able to edit normally again. Thanks!--125.129.16.99 (talk) 02:49, 5 October 2020 (UTC)

GoogleMeNowPlease

I Need Your Assistance With The Changes That I Wanted Done

Help me please. How can I properly effect the needed changes to be done to have the two articles be less deceptive? Oldspammer (talk) 02:20, 10 October 2020 (UTC)

Rather than using talk pages as a chat forum or rather than just dumping a video on a talk page, discuss what specific changes you wish to make to the article. --Yamla (talk) 10:18, 10 October 2020 (UTC)

Are you an admin?

Hello there. Can you please tell me how to create articles on Wikipedia? I tried it but it is rather difficult how I can create articles in an easy way. Mag. Wilhelm Görg (talk) 22:06, 9 October 2020 (UTC)

See WP:YFA which goes into far, far more details than I can provide. Note that you should not create an article in an area for which you have a conflict of interest; see WP:COI. --Yamla (talk) 22:09, 9 October 2020 (UTC)
What do you mean with conflict or interest? Mag. Wilhelm Görg (talk) 22:10, 9 October 2020 (UTC)

Hello again. First of all, thanks for your Welcome. Can you please tell me how I can add reliable sources if I edit articles on the Wikipedia? Mag. Wilhelm Görg (talk) 22:18, 9 October 2020 (UTC)
WP:CITE explains how to do this. Please take the time to read all of our policies and guidelines before editing further. Note that celebheights, for example, would categorically not be a suitable source; see WP:RS. --Yamla (talk) 22:19, 9 October 2020 (UTC)
You know what? You can block my account forever. I don't like the Wikipedia anymore and it's really a waste of time. Mag. Wilhelm Görg (talk) 09:53, 11 October 2020 (UTC)

You declined this user's unblock request, and then they faked your response to make it look like you accepted the request. Might want to remove talk page access (likely via page protection as its part of a wide range block)? 192.196.218.202 (talk) 23:12, 12 October 2020 (UTC)

I have a question

Seeing Wikipedia:Arbitration Committee/CheckUser and Oversight/2020 CUOS appointments and 14 October has passed, saying that the appointmets are on this day. Why hasn't anyone got the checkuser tool yet? --94.73.37.114 (talk) 20:38, 15 October 2020 (UTC)

SOP & MY

XC40 SOP was in 2017 with production of first customer bound models starting in November 2017. The following source was provided: [1]

Relevant quote, dated 22 November 2017:

A new era starts for the Volvo Cars plant in Ghent, Belgium today as the first customer-bound XC40 small SUV is set to roll off the production line.

XC40 MY starts with MY18 as is normal with second half of year dates for VCC. Relevant source here: [2]

This does not take into account US specific dates or MYs. See quote from the prijslijst, dated 13 November 2017:

PRIJSLIJST Modeljaar 2018. [Price list model year 2018]

Are these sources sufficient or is there any reason for them to be unsuitable? First source was already given in the revert but ignored - why?

Site ban tag for UnderArmourKid

Please put a sock tag on UnderArmourKid's user page as they have been socking and evading their block numerous times. They already should be banned from editing this project. They also have an LTA case page about themselves--31.221.214.55 (talk) 15:40, 29 October 2020 (UTC)

There's already a tag indicating they are a sockpuppeteer. Honestly, I'm not sure it's worth the effort to note they are banned, given that the long-term abuse link appears. --Yamla (talk) 16:28, 29 October 2020 (UTC)

Can you please protect this page Nitish Kumar as the subject of this page has just won the Assembly elections and is regularly vandalised. Thankyou Zoglophie (talk) 15:25, 11 November 2020 (UTC)

At the moment, it looks to be under control. Nothing hugely significant and pretty easy for the regulars to keep contained. If it becomes a problem, I'll reevaluate. --Yamla (talk) 16:40, 11 November 2020 (UTC)

User:Miggy72

This user has only been blocked for 1 week, why should this user already be banned after only 2 sockpuppet accounts? --94.73.38.128 (talk) 17:02, 11 November 2020 (UTC)

WP:3X. Note that they are blocked indefinitely and set up the two block-evading sockpuppets after the indefinte block. --Yamla (talk) 17:03, 11 November 2020 (UTC)

You are very patient

You've been more patient than many editors would be with this editor.

I don't follow the administrative fora related to blocking and banning very much, but is there any general consensus that editors with "copyright competency" issues such as these can be topic-banned from File: namespace (enforced by a partial block) and set by an edit filter to "never autoconfirm"? Granted, that wouldn't completely help with the copyvio-text issues but it would allow editors whose only problems are in "File:" space to still contribute elsewhere in the project. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 18:20, 11 November 2020 (UTC)

Thanks. It's true that editors can be partially banned, as you describe. In this case, it's not going to help. Almost everything they did was in violation of WP:COPYRIGHT and unfortunately, that included the articles, too. Topic bans can also be applied but again, that's not going to be useful here unfortunately. :( --Yamla (talk) 19:34, 11 November 2020 (UTC)
Yes, sad, but as I said on the editor's talk page, I have hope for the future. Not this year though. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs) 19:57, 11 November 2020 (UTC)
WP:SO, combined with evidence of appropriate contributions elsewhere, would be a really good sign. I, too, am hopeful for the future. --Yamla (talk) 19:59, 11 November 2020 (UTC)

Samlaptop85213

I know you get annoyed that he keeps bothering you but it’s probably for the best if you tag his IP socks so this can be tracked, or leave a note on the talk page about current block evasion. He’s also banned per 3X. HurricaneTracker495 (talk) 20:30, 11 November 2020 (UTC)

Any chance his IP range would need a global block? I believe someone who always or often/usually writes that they love vandalism is Samlaptop85213. --37.29.168.61 (talk) 11:24, 12 November 2020 (UTC)

It is. What I am saying is, though, is that we need to track it. HurricaneTracker495 (talk) 15:09, 12 November 2020 (UTC)
I agree with the tracking. 37.29.188.55 (talk) 14:19, 13 November 2020 (UTC)
Samlaptop85213 is already tracked sufficiently. We don't need to indulge this troll further. As to blocking IP address ranges, show me a blockable IP address range and I'll happily block. --Yamla (talk) 14:44, 13 November 2020 (UTC)
Blocking his IP ranges will probably not help after the blocks expire. Also you may wish to always use your checkuser tool to see if the IP ranges/addresses he uses are confirmed to him. 37.29.188.55 (talk) 14:50, 13 November 2020 (UTC)
Agreed. And he cycles through so many. We need to implement page protection. HurricaneTracker495 (talk) 15:48, 13 November 2020 (UTC)

SPI

Hi Yamla - hope you're well. When you have a moment, please can you look at this SPI case in relation to a block you made recently. On a related note, I think this user is a possible meat-puppet, and at best, WP:NOTHERE based on this, this and (the clincher) this. Thanks for all your help with this matter. Hey there

I praise your service, you deserve more awards! However, I was looking at Sandbox history, and 101Enigma may need to be blocked, as looking at their edits, they may just be an account for promotion. Apology

I just wanted to tell you how immensely, profoundly sorry I am about what I edited on Alex Hirsch. The last thing I wanted was to break the rules and I sincerely thought that what I was writing was constructive and important, especially since I had collected a couple of good sources on it (I was not aware that kiwifarms was not an applicable source, but during my block I found a Boundingintocomics page saying exactly the same thing. I am presuming that that source is an okay one). I am curious how Wikipedia would handle similar cases of people doing similar questionable things (like maybe Bill Cosby). You have no idea how much I regretted my actions and how crappy I felt during the block, knowing that I unknowingly broke the rules. Trust me when I say that I will never do it again and I will not even bother trying to put that info back on the site. I know I am on thin ice as it is, but believe me that this block has changed me and I will try to follow the rules to the best of my ability in the future. Again, I am sorry and I will try my very best not to do it again. Tyler Michael Mannix (talk) 02:44, 21 November 2020 (UTC)

The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2020 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 01:18, 24 November 2020 (UTC)

A UTRS complaint

Hey Yamla. Thanks for your assistance the other day with a guy regarding Spanish colonization of North America. But just now I looked at this UTRS and noticed you were handling it. I have only one bit of information to add: The IP remains covered by a colocation-webhost rangeblock, and I don't see any reason to lift that. He complains about a certain IP of his being covered by that block, but the edits of that IP seem to be mostly vandalism. He also says he has a registered account which is being inconvenienced. (I think I can't say the name). If you look at the registered account, it is currently (on 27th November) making reasonable-looking edits to business-related articles. So he must have a way of reaching the internet that gets around the rangeblock. So I would be looking at how to decline his appeal — unless there is more to the story. Thanks, EdJohnston (talk) 01:34, 27 November 2020 (UTC)

Oooh, excellent point. Thanks. I should have followed up with that UTRS request some time ago now, it's slipped to the bottom of my todo list. But as you point out, an unblock is not actually necessary. I'll follow up tomorrow (it's late here now). Thanks for the additional really useful information! --Yamla (talk) 01:53, 27 November 2020 (UTC)

National animals

1. The name of the country is North Macedonia, it must be placed in alphabetical order. 2. There is no "Macedonian heraldy", as there are different variations according to country, it must be changed to "North Macedonian heraldy", or to its wikipedia page "Emblem of the Republic of North Macedonia" 3. The "history of Macedonia" blog, which is used in both the national animals of Bulgaria and North Macedonia, is infamous for its historical distortions and fake news. It does not credit Wikipedia to use such a blog as a source. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Avalantis (talkcontribs) 14:21, 4 December 2020 (UTC)

I have no attachment to that particular source; I didn't add that source myself. However, you can't replace it with another blog. You need a reliable source; see WP:RS. That, and only that, was the problem with your edit. --Yamla (talk) 14:53, 4 December 2020 (UTC)

Why did you remove "minor" protests?

I felt like the phrase "sparking protests across the province" under Jason Kenney was a bit dramatic. So I changed it to minor. Why do you oppose this?

Because of MOS:WEASEL. Though, frankly, if you removed the whole bit about sparking protests, I'd be okay with that. I'm pretty sure the citation didn't even support that much. :) --Yamla (talk) 20:55, 24 December 2020 (UTC)

Recent Block

Hello! You're obviously under no obligation to explain your administrative decisions to me, but I'm a little perplexed about a recent block you decided not to overturn for Mrbill66 (for the record, I have absolutely no connection to this user).

It seems as though the user added sourced content about a recent event into a BLP: [2]. Another user deleted the content, and said material would probably be more appropriate in the personal life section: [3]. I took a quick glance at the material and I agreed, so I moved the deleted content into the personal life section: [4]. Then, a different user said the material may have been misinterpreted and deleted the content entirely:[5]. It was at this point where Mrbill66 decided to revert that change: [6]. Muboshgu, the blocking admin, reverted the user and told them not to reinsert controversial content about a BLP without getting consensus first: [7]. Then, only a few minutes later, Muboshgu issued a 60 hour block for edit-warring to the user. According to the user, it seems like he was in the process of explaining his edits on the TP, when the block was issued. I really didn't see evidence that user intended on reverting Muboshgu's revert.

In summary, the user issued one revert to the page. To my knowledge, Raphael Warnock is not under any 1RR or 0RR restrictions. And, in the last 13 years, Mrbill66 has never once been blocked for edit-warring. I'm not necessarily asking you to overturn the block, but I do find this situation a little strange. Thank you for your time. Dr.Swag Lord, Ph.d (talk) 22:16, 26 December 2020 (UTC)

Had they made that claim, I'd have investigated further. However, they were blocked for violating WP:EW and made no claim they weren't violating that policy. Instead, I see at least two reverts by them on Raphael Warnock. To be clear, maybe they should have the block lifted! But they need to justify that, they need to explain why they weren't violating WP:EW. You are welcome (indeed, I encourage you to do this) to copy this content to User talk:Mrbill66 or to add a note there pointing here, noting that you have concerns about the block. I certainly harbour no ill will toward Mrbill66. --Yamla (talk) 22:47, 26 December 2020 (UTC)
@Yamla: I really appreciate your open-mindedness. I left a message to the user on their talk, and I hope they will again attempt to appeal the block with the advice I gave them. On a further note, do you think it was appropriate for an WP:INVOLVED admin to impose sanctions on this user in the first place? Dr.Swag Lord, Ph.d (talk) 02:35, 27 December 2020 (UTC)

Range block 2a02:587::/33

Please take a look, someone block almost the whole of Athens urban area. I think needs a more precise range.--79.129.236.201 (talk) 05:51, 30 December 2020 (UTC)

Please take this up with the blocking admin. --Yamla (talk) 11:45, 30 December 2020 (UTC)

User:Drmies is the admin but his talk page is locked for ip's--85.74.46.70 (talk) 21:48, 30 December 2020 (UTC)

Hello IP user. There is a 3-month block of Special:Contributions/2a02:587::/33 that was placed by User:Drmies. Your unblock request was already declined at User talk:2A02:587:4650:D722:716D:7E59:6D69:B017. On 29th December, User:331dot advised that you should create an account via WP:ACC so as to distinguish yourself from others that are causing trouble on that range. Let us know if there is some reason why you can't create an account. EdJohnston (talk) 22:03, 30 December 2020 (UTC)

I didn't create a unblock request and i do not know how to create an unblock request--85.74.46.70 (talk) 22:13, 30 December 2020 (UTC)

[[User talk:2A02:587:4650:D722:716D:7E59:6D69:B017] is an other user request.--85.74.46.70 (talk) 22:15, 30 December 2020 (UTC)

Hello 85.74.46.70. When you opened this thread, you used the header "Range block 2a02:587::/33", i.e. you were objecting to the block of Special:Contributions/2a02:587::/33. If that is not actually the block that concerns you, please be more specific. EdJohnston (talk) 22:25, 30 December 2020 (UTC)

Yes i'm in the range of block, the block affect almost the entire Athens, millions of people. I think is a mistake of range, more specific range is needed. I saw the unblock request by one or more other users but is not mine.--85.74.46.70 (talk) 22:34, 30 December 2020 (UTC)

The funny thing about that range, which has caused great disruption, is that the longterm disruptor is very active in complaining about the block. Drmies (talk) 23:13, 30 December 2020 (UTC)

I don't know if the disruptor is complaining about the block, but you are block 4 millions people in the capital city of Greece to block 1 disruptor???--85.74.46.70 (talk) 23:49, 30 December 2020 (UTC)

Failure?

Greetings!

It has come to my attention that you referred to me as a failure in a private conversation with an online user. To that end, I must ask what knowledge do you have of me that deems me to be a failure? Quite the contrary sir, I am quite successful in life, despite your definition of success, whatever that may be. I have achieved a lot in 42 years on Earth, and have literally been around the world and back. It's pretty classless to speak ill of someone you know absolutely nothing about, wouldn't you say?

Blessings, R.J. Atkins — Preceding unsigned comment added by 172.124.190.54 (talk) 23:40, 30 December 2020 (UTC)

I have had zero private conversations about you and not once referred to you as a failure. You may be referring to the conversation over at User_talk:McCoolRedd where I note that the article about you fails WP:NOTE, which is not remotely the same as indicating you yourself are a failure. --Yamla (talk) 11:42, 31 December 2020 (UTC)

I stand corrected and I am so sorry for this grave misunderstanding. I was sent a message via my website from an "RMC Media" that specified your username and that they were banned from Wikipedia by you and another member of administration for defending my honor after you called me a failure.

After reading your note, I see where this person twisted your words to suit their own agenda. I was truly wondering if I had an enemy working at Wikipedia, LOL. Once again, I am so sorry for this confusion.

Blessings, R.J. Atkins — Preceding unsigned comment added by 172.124.190.54 (talk) 14:03, 31 December 2020 (UTC)

No problem at all. I sincerely wish you luck, happiness, and success! --Yamla (talk) 14:38, 31 December 2020 (UTC)

Hello,

You left the standard boilerplate response form template when declining this user's unblock request... but it appears that the user isn't even blocked. 2601:187:4581:7F50:18D4:EF01:FCCE:A840 (talk) 01:33, 4 January 2021 (UTC)

Strange insult

You got to this one before I did. I was still working out what a leftist Nazi was, and whether it was an insult or just a description of someone with middle-of-the-road politics. I've heard worse!  O Still Small Voice of Clam 19:07, 11 January 2021 (UTC)

marquinhos is trolling the Wikipedia sockpuppet investigation page again. odd

I didn't get any kind of edit conflict. I guess that doesn't happen with blocks? --Floquenbeam (talk) 02:22, 14 January 2021 (UTC)

Nope, no conflicts on blocks. The latest block is the one that sticks. Good call there, revoking TPA. :) --Yamla (talk) 11:16, 14 January 2021 (UTC)

I express concern that they are a sock of ZestyLemonz. Shinyedit (talk) 12:36, 14 January 2021 (UTC)

Maybe. They are confirmed as the sock of someone, it's not all that massively relevant who, as they are already checkuser-blocked by another admin. --Yamla (talk) 12:47, 14 January 2021 (UTC)

Please take action against this user

I would like it if you took action against this user, because none of there edits look productive.

Returning IP

Hi,

A while back you blocked an aggressive anti-vegan user who was attacking everyone on Wikipedia as a vegan [8]. This user confessed to using this IP [9] back in November. The same user has been using IPs to attack me and other editors. I have seen this user pop up now and again. He's now doing it on the Atkins diet talk-page calling me and another editor a vegan activist which is not true. [10]. It's the same banned user because the IP traces to the same place. Is it possible to block this IP because he's been indefinitely blocked on his account JustANameInUse. Psychologist Guy (talk) 15:17, 16 January 2021 (UTC)

152.26.0.0/16

Hello,

This is the IP range of the district in which I go to school in. When you blocked this IP, you blocked almost all students in the district (Yes, I was actually responsible for the November UTRS appeal). The main issue is: I cannot log in, even though anon only is on. Is there a way to get IP block exemption flag? Shinyedit (talk) 15:27, 16 January 2021 (UTC)

unblock request

Yamla i just noticed your procedural decline of User_talk:Frutti_xperiment#Blocked. I've been here for some 15 years and at this point even I wouldn't know what to do if I were that editor, whose explanation for their "sockpuppertry" seems credible. What is this editor supposed to do? Vexations (talk) 16:44, 31 January 2021 (UTC)
