Do the math... User:Caribbean_H.Q. + User:Marine 69-71 + User:Mercy11 = One (201077FOURTH (talk) 14:54, 21 September 2010 (UTC))Reply
If you are claiming that all three users are, in fact, the same person, you are free to open an investigation at WP:Sock puppet investigations. However, since both Caribbean H.Q. and Marine 69-71 are administrators, the accusation seems unlikely. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 15:03, 21 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

Move edit

University of the Sacred Heart (Puerto Rico) - -to - - Sagrado Corazón (201077FOURTH (talk) 15:22, 21 September 2010 (UTC))Reply

I can't concur that this is a good move. If anything, the article might be moved to Universidad del Sagrado Corazón, as that is the university's official name in Spanish, but generally (per WP:MOSNAME, articles on the English Wikipedia should be titled with the name that best reflects the English translation of the foreign name. A redirect from the foreign name can be created. However, since there was already an article at Sagrado Corazón, you don't get to just delete that content for this content. Ok, you deal with it... I am done with this district... Bad urban planning... A Census Data filled with misinformation... (201077FOURTH (talk) 15:44, 21 September 2010 (UTC))Reply
I can't speak to the character of the district, having never been there. I can only speak to the policies of Wikipedia, which I am attempting to follow in cleaning up articles about Puerto Rico, and lots of other topics. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 15:46, 21 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

George M Murray edit

Hi Dan we have three reliable sources but the article got deleted again. do you know what im doing wrong and what other information i will need in order for my artical to go through?

Thanks

 Susan0713 (talk) 18:49, 21 September 2010 (UTC)SusanReply
As of this writing, the George M. Murray, Ph. D. (Scientist) article is still alive and kicking. However, there are no sources listed on the page. If you have sources, please add them. Since the article is proposed for deletion as an unreferenced BLP, you have 10 days to find and add sources. Of course, the article may be proposed for speedy deletion before that if someone determines there is something other than a simple lack of sources wrong with the article. No Conflict of Interest edit

A colleague posted an entry about me. It was entirely accurate but needed references and citations that she was unable to provide. I added them. I do not see my additions as a conflict of interest, for she wrote the entry. Incidentally, everything that is mentioned in the entry can be verified by consulting my curriculum vita at http://www.nku.edu/~rhode/cv.htm. Do you require additional verification of any facts in the entry? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Robertrhode (talkcontribs) 12:28, 22 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

As I have already pointed out on your talk page, your own c.v. is hardly a valid reference. Please see WP:RS. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 12:30, 22 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

Source edit

I just noticed that a resume is not a reliable source. A curriculum vita is not a resume, but I will not argue the point. What source do you require to verify the Road Roller Assn.'s award of the Silver Jubilee Certificate, which is framed and hanging on the wall behind me while I type this question? I have a letter from the Assn. in my professional dossier. Do I need to FAX the letter? In what way can anyone verify that I have published over two hundred articles, short of listing all of them as shown on my CV, which is many pages long? Perhaps it would prove helpful to know that, at the university where I have been employed for the past thirty years, I have undergone an annual review by the chair of my department to verify that the accomplishments that are listed on my curriculum vita are legitimate. I look forward to your reply. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Robertrhode (talkcontribs) 12:42, 22 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

In order to be a valid citation, the information would have had to been published in a publicly available document, such as a magazine, newspaper, etc. The source does not have to be available online, but it does have to be publicly available, such as at a library. A certificate owned by you personally does not qualify. If the association has a website, and that website contains a reference to your award, that would do nicely. Failing that, the reference is probably not valid. As a further note, I do not believe that your biography meets the criteria for inclusion for biographies. While you may be well-known among the community of steam roller enthusiasts, that community is rather small, and notability among that rather small community does not equate to general notability. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 12:52, 22 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

Delete Page edit

Thank you for explaining that being an internationally recognized authority on the history and literature of North American agricultural steam engines and steamrollers is not noteworthy. I respectfully request that the page that my colleague posted be deleted immediately. Kindest regards. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Robertrhode (talkcontribs) 12:58, 22 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

move my article from english wikipedia to latvian wikipedia. edit

Hi! I wrote (by mistake) my latvian article "Komandas psiholoģija" here in english wikipedia and i would like to move it to latvian wikipedia, but i just do not know how to do it. :) Maybe you can help me?! Thanks!

I don't know that there is a mechanism to move an article between Wikipedias. I would suggest you place the {{helpme}} template on your own talk page followed by the same question, and an administrator will come along to help you. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 17:12, 22 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

You know a lot about the policy, so therefore you would be a strong administrator candidate. I would prbly vote for you, except sometimes you are rude to other users. So if i have to give you some constructive criticism, I would say try not to be so rude to users who are not as smart as you, but for the most part you would be a good admin so I would vote for you unless you do some things to mess up.--Bad edits r dumb (talk) 21:09, 22 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

You write: "These are lists of records within the individual teams, which records are not necessarily notable. Whereas there are articles such as New York Yankees award winners and league leaders, these articles highlight the league-wide accomplishments of the team's players, not the team-specific records. That was not a personal attack. It is my opinion based on empirical observation. Perhaps you can take time to research and analyze an item or entry before unilaterally decide that it should be deleted. Giving this topic even a brief amount of consideration and comparative analysis would have led you to your finally conclusion, without the bother and discourtesy of the threatened deletions. Stop wanting yourself from being noticed. Nobody really cares about your influence over wikipedia under your so hundreds of accounts, your twenty ish administrator accounts and your thousands of fake written articles under your lame named puppet accounts. Nobody really cares. Buy yes, stop interfering with the Puerto Rico Project for your own amusement or tryings to define the real identity of its common contributors or administrators. (Merrytimes (talk) 19:30, 27 September 2010 (UTC))Reply

I don't have hundreds of accounts. I have one. And with that one account, I strive to keep Wikipedia a place where people can come and find meaningful and true information. If that means I butt heads with people whose goals are otherwise, than so be it. My involvement in Wikipedia:WikiProject Puerto Rico has been solely in cleaning up poorly created articles. If Merrytimes (talk · contribs) thinks that is interference, he should remember that he does not own the articles. If Merrytimes is unhappy that I have accused him of sock puppetry, he has the right to defend himself at the appropriate venue, or to simply ignore the matter and let the reviewing administrators make the decision. However, his vandalism since the accusation was made speaks for itself. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 19:45, 27 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of Spécial:Contributions/Fraddk edit

Thank you for experimenting with Wikipedia. Your test worked, and the page that you created has been or soon will be deleted. Please use the sandbox for any other tests you want to do. Take a look at the welcome page if you would like to learn more about contributing to our encyclopedia. You may also wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles - see the Article Wizard.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag - if no such tag exists then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hangon tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. Fraddk (talk) 22:13, 27 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

Hello

I posted this about Miaaw.com, and it was not a test, should I understand it needs more development?

thanks for help and/or advices

Fraddk

The point is moot now as your article has 1) been moved to your user space and 2) blanked, but I will try to explain to you why I tagged the page as I did. The name of the page was inappropriate: it should have been created at Miaaw.com, not at Spécial:Contributions/Fraddk. There is a page titled Special:Contributions/Fraddk that will list all of the contributions you have made since creating your account; replacing the word "Special" with "Spécial" causes confusion. Since your article name appeared confusing, I had two options:
  1. Move the article to the proper address or
  2. Tag the article for deletion
I would have chosen the first option except, as has been pointed out by another editor when he blanked the page, it consisted of nothing but promotional language for the group involved. Wikipedia is not here to promote any given entity. So the only option left was to tag the article for deletion. Since the article was created at an obviously incorrect location, I assumed that you were testing the system (it was your first contribution), so I marked it as a test page. Sorry for any confusion. The press release that you cited (this one) was written by you. That would be the definition of "self-made". And I would take issue with the statement that "boot.com" is a credible site: please see the guidelines about "reliable sources". Any site where a user can post a blog with little or no editorial review is not a reliable source. And by saying that "my company has a contract..." you are admitting to a conflict of interest. Wikipedia discourages users from writing about their own companies. However, since the article has been nominated for deletion, you should make any arguments regarding its retention at the AFD discussion. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 20:59, 28 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

Can you take a look at Spacestoned (talk · contribs). The account was created the 27th, the first edits are in the sub-districts articles of Puerto Rico, and then db an article that you Afd [2]. You are free to correct any mistakes that have been made. As other hands have touched the article at this point, the only way to get it deleted would be to nominate it at WP:Articles for deletion, but I'm not sure why you would want to delete the article. The references you have added are 1) from his own personal website and 2) from the Greek Wikipedia article about him. Neither of these are considered valid references. I have added two more sources on my article, is it ok with the verification now?Kriti28 (talk) 10:13, 4 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

The extra sources may help: since they're in Greek I can't verify them. However, assuming good faith, I believe the article may be better sourced now. However, I have changed the tag on the page to indicate that the citations should be "inline". Please see the Wikipedia guidelines on citations to understand what this means and how to do it. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 12:23, 4 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

Is it ok now? Thank you!Kriti28 (talk) 14:55, 4 October 2010 (UTC) The name of the singer is categorized under the letter "G" while it should be categorized under the letter "X" with which the surname begins. Why's that?Kriti28 (talk) 20:16, 5 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

The article did not have a {{DEFAULTSORT}} entry. The DEFAULTSORT template causes the page to be alphabetized in category lists in a form different than the article title (such as last name, first name). I have added the necessary tag. PRODs edit

Hey. You proposed Smart Basics Hotels for deletion about a week ago. The PROD was perfectly valid and, as such, I've deleted the article after it expired, but you tagged it just 12 minutes after it was created. If an article doesn't meet a speedy criterion, it's usually better to leave it for a few hours to see if the creator does anything else with it, especially if they're new (in this case, it was the creator's first and, so far, only, edit). After all, there's no harm in leaving an article on a subject that's just not notable to knock around for a few more hours. Hi WikiDan61,

The Dubai trophy is the major 12 goal tournament played at our historic grounds in London. this year the tournament attracted teams form Pakistan Thailand and Jordan as well as the UK. As the article has been nominated for deletion, any comments regarding its retention should be addressed there. However, as you mention that you are "trying to compile a history of our club", I would point you to the Wikipedia guidelines regarding conflicts of interest: you should not be creating articles about your own club. Hi, I was trying to change the article so it was linked to verifiable tv shows/film already on Wikipedia that Madison has done but when I went to do it, it was already under speedy deletion so I couldn't do it. I am sorry. I am trying to read everything and do this right. Does this mean Madison Moellers is deleted and I can't edit it now? I couldn't figure out how to merge it. Thank you. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Mmoellers (talkcontribs) 16:48, 6 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

No, the article has not yet been deleted, and you can still edit it. Your first action should be to place a {{hangon}} template on the page, and then explain why you think the article should not be deleted on the talk page. However, given that you appear to be Madison Moellers, you should know that it is considered inappropriate to write your own autobiography on Wikipedia. You should also note that a few minor guest appearances in a TV show do not make you notable according to Wikipedia guidelines. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 16:53, 6 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

Hi WikiDan61,

I am really not technically advanced. Reading everything and feeling like an idiot. I am not Madison Moellers. Madison is 7 years old. I am her mother and her agents wanted me to do this. They noted several girls with her level of credits on Wikipedia. She has done 12 film/television/commercials. If that is not enough, I understand but there are other girls up on Wikipedia with the same. I was just trying to do what her agents asked me to do and I tried my best to follow the guidelines. I can't even get to the template you bring up to put hold on I did add her picture in Entertainment Weekly and I added the reference of her on a talk show. She also has been on CBS national news being noted as one of the hottest, young commodities in Hollywood but I could not find it. I tried. If it's not enough, that is how the ball bounces. Thank you for taking the time. I do appreciate your input. So, if it's not enough I will tell her agents we can't do it til she is the star of a movie. Thanks again. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Mmoellers (talkcontribs) 17:12, 6 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

The fact that other poor articles exist on Wikipedia is not a reason to create one more. Wikipedia is not intended to be used to promote your daughter's career. If your daughter has received significant coverage in the press, she may well be notable. If that is the case, you might request an article to be written about her, and provide links along with the request to give users a starting point, but because of the obvious conflict of interest involved, you should not write the article about your daughter. I wish her luck in her career! WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 17:29, 6 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

I just received your message about a COI concerning easyrec and Smart Agent Technologies (SAT). easyrec is an open source recommender system available for the public on sourceforge provided by SAT ( a non-for-profit research unit).

Why is there a COI? Is it because of the mutual links? Thanks! Erich Gstrein (talk) 14:53, 11 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

The conflict of interest arises from the fact that you, as the creator of the software, should not be the one creating the article about the software on Wikipedia. As hard as you might try to be neutral, your close connection to the project may well prevent you from being able to do so. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 14:54, 11 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

wylde swan edit

Hi,

You kindly corrected my page for wylde swan. I was trying to make the web page a citation but couldn't work out how to do it. Is that ok for a citation or should I get the IMO registration or something?

More will be added by the office of the ship later, I just wanted to get them started.

Thanks

Nick —Preceding unsigned comment added by Nick mitchener (talkcontribs) 18:05, 11 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

The website of the ship and its associated sailing school would not be a suitable reference as it is not independent of the subject. In order to support the notability of this vessel, independent coverage in reliable sources is needed. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 18:17, 11 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

Verification/citation edit

Hi WikiDan61, thank you for your message. I am knew to this so please bear with me. The two radio station citations, Craig Charles and Mark Lamarr both clearly mention the record label Outta Sight. Mark Lamarr particularly has a soft spot for the label and devoted a considerable part of his radio 2 show to the label. The very respected Soulful Detroit forum has discussed the label on a number of occasions and directly discusses the "Heartstoppers" release cited. The two magazines don not have websites but are nevertheless the genres leading publications. As far as I can see the article follows the same or similar pattern to all other UK record labels and in particular Cherry Red and Ace who both release similar product.
In the interests of delivering an unbiased platform I am concerned that Wikipedia may discriminate between one UK label and another.
Please advise

—Preceding unsigned comment added by Joeboy60 (talkcontribs) 15:29, 12 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

The citations to the radio programs have changed since I first looked at the article. However, while the current citations do mention the label, they only mention it as part of the shows' playlists. There is no indication from these references that the shows actually mention or discuss the label, only that they play its records. This does not constitute significant coverage. And no matter how respected the Soulful Detroit forum might be, forums in general are not acceptable references, because the content there is not subject to any editorial review. Finally, the coverage in Manifesto and In The Basement may well qualify; I can't verify that as I have no access to these publications. However, the very fact that these publications do not have a web presence may well reveal that they do not represent significant coverage. Soul is not some new underground genre -- its roots go back decades. One would expect that a significant label in the soul genre would have garnered some attention from some major publications. If not, maybe the label is not as significant as you would have me believe. However, you have placed the hangon tag on the article -- an independent administrator will review the article and see if there is any merit. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 15:39, 12 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

Hi WikiDan61, many thanks for your speedy response. I am struggling a little to familiarize myself with the correct procedures and the skill to point links at exactly the right place. I can assure you that having compiled literally hundreds of Soul albums for major and independent labels including Universal and Sony that I do know the significance of a Soul label. Outta Sight is certainly significant and one of the few UK labels serviced with an mcps AP1 agreement. It would be a great help to me if you might have a look at our sister label Expansion Records and let me know where I may be going wrong. Thank you for your time and advice. ----

Verification/citation edit

Hi WikiDan61
I have found a direct reference to Outta Sight on the web site for Echoes magazine, formerly Black Echoes - one of the longest established Soul music magazines. Unfortunately the article appears in a pop-up window which I believe Google and indeed Wikipedia will not be be able to drill-down to. Please advise. ---- —Preceding unsigned comment added by Joeboy60 (talkcontribs) 16:28, 12 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

Matt Wayne article- a work-in-progress edit

Good Morning,

I'm very new to Wikipedia, so please forgive me. I'm working on submitting Matt Wayne, and your claims of him being a 'non-known entertainer' are false. If you Google "Celebrity" and then "Magician" you'll find him even before anyone else. I'm working on providing proper citations, so if it's possible to allow me the time to create my submission without it being deleted yet; I'd appreciate any help or advice...

Many thanks, Denise Aada2009 (talk) 15:39, 15 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

Simply because an entertainer bills themself as "the Celebrity Magician" and thus assures that his website shows up first in a search for "Celebrity Entertainer" (which, in fact, it doesn't; it shows up second), this does not make the entertainer notable. There does not appear to be any notice in any major media about Mr Wayne's activities. If you can prove otherwise, please do so. The deletion discussion generally runs 7 days -- if you can improve the article in that time, feel free to do so. If not, you are free to re-create the article in your own user space (perhaps at User:Aada2009/Matt Wayne) and work on it there to your heart's content until it is ready to be recreated in the main article space. November copy edit drive edit

Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors Backlog Elimination Drive!

The Wikipedia Guild of Copy-Editors invites you to participate in the November 2010 Backlog Elimination Drive, a month-long effort to reduce the backlog of articles that require copy-editing. The drive will begin on 1 November at 00:00 (UTC) and will end on 30 November at 23:59 (UTC). The goal for this drive is to reduce the backlog by 10% (approximately 500 articles). We hope to focus our efforts on the oldest three months (January, February, and March 2009) and the newest three months (September, October, and November 2010) of articles in the queue.

Sign-up has already begun at the November drive page, and will be open throughout the drive. If you have any questions or concerns, please leave a message on the drive's talk page.

Before you begin copy-editing, please carefully read the instructions on the main drive page. Please make sure that you know how to copy-edit, and be familiar with the Wikipedia Manual of Style.

Awards and barnstars

A range of barnstars will be awarded to active participants, some of which are exclusive to GOCE drives. More information on awards can be found on the main drive page.

Thank you; we look forward to meeting you on the drive!

University of Tromsø edit

The faculty of health sciences at The University of Tromsø has got all of the health subjects in one faculty. This is unique and has never been done in Norway before. For that reason we would like to be allowed to fill in information regarding the departments of our faculty. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Pa8c99i (talkcontribs) 08:31, 21 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

You have presently created three articles (Department of Clinical Medicine, Department of Community Medicine, University of Tromsø, and Faculty of Health Sciences). The last has already been deleted as a copyright infringement, the second has been proposed for deletion because the general consensus is that individual departments of universities are not notable unless they have achieved something unique on their own (not as part of their larger university), and the first provides no context for anyone to know what you're talking about, and so will likely be deleted also. Since you claim that your faculty is unique in consolidating lots of different subjects into one faculty, why not try creating a single article that discusses all of these aspects together, rather than creating lots of different articles? I will tell you, though, that the single article you create must cite reliable sources in order to verify that the faculty is, in fact, unique in all of Norway and therefore merits an article on Wikipedia. On the other hand, you could just create a section in the University of Tromsø article to expand on the Faculty of Health Sciences there. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 12:34, 21 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

Careful edit

Hi WikiDan, I've declined your db-corp tag on SPIC School in Hungary, Miskolc because A7 does not apply to schools. Since I'm having a very hard time finding any coverage of the school at all (via Google), PROD or AfD look like viable options. Regards, Airplaneman 01:11, 22 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

It's not a school in the sense of a general educational institution. It is a private, art-instruction school, which makes it more of a non-notable corporation than an actual school. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 10:05, 22 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

Geographic coordinate lists edit

Despite the fabrication (from lack of critical thinking) that:

It serves no purpose to create a disambiguation page if none of the individual pages exist. Pages such as Dutch John Mountain and Fairview Peak contain no meaningful information. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 12:57, 25 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

the latidue/longitude links in such geographic coordinate lists allow wikireaders to access a map for the summits-which-will-have-future-wikipages, and of course those pages will have already been dismbiguated! No need for talkback (e.g., with an apology), as I'm sure you'll agree those are two purposes (vice "no purpose") and you'll spend a lttle more time considering the contents of wikiarticles before wasting your and others' time by acting on your first inaccurate judgment. Hike796 (talk) 14:09, 25 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

Your disambiguation pages violate the Manual of style for disambiguation pages regarding red links. In the case of Dutch John Mountain, since neither of the named places is mentioned in any Wikipedia article, the redlink listing of it at a DAB page is pointless, even if geo coordinates are provided. When (if) the named places ever get Wikipedia articles, the DAB page can be created then. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 17:38, 25 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

Reference edit

To make it clear, you removed the reference as for "reception" section, I restored it for the "overview" part of the article, which obviously you submitted for deletion. The reference link is still valid, I believe, as it provides details about the product itself. Otherwise you may want also to remove all "official website links" for, let's say, recording artists or actors, who promote their work as well. Anyway, either the article is about to be deleted or not, I have nothing to add. Uzerakount (talk) 13:23, 1 November 2010 (UTC)Reply

The problem with the image is not so much that it is a copyright violation as the fact that you have provided no source information at all. If the image is taken from the UESP, that should be noted. If the UESP is using the MediaWiki software, it is likely that it is also using the MediaWiki licensing, and that the image is freely available. But no one can ascertain that unless you specify where the image came from. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 15:02, 1 November 2010 (UTC)Reply
Where can I specify that is taken from UESP? --Rigas Papadopoulos • TalkDeeds 15:17, 1 November 2010 (UTC)Reply
On the file page (here), select "Edit this page" (or maybe "View source" depending on which style book you have active), and insert the {{Information}} template as follows:
{{Information
| description = Logo of the Unofficial Elder Scrolls Pages
| source = http://www.uesp.net
| date = 1 November 2010
| author =
| permission  = {{cc-by-sa-3.0}}
}}
I'm guessing at the permission, as I cannot access the UESP page from work. Check the options at Wikipedia:File copyright tags to see which license best suits the usages allowed by the UESP.
I did it, although I am not sure about the permission either, and I can not understand anything at Wikipedia:File copyright tags. --Rigas Papadopoulos • TalkDeeds 15:55, 1 November 2010 (UTC)Reply

Nils-Göran Areskoug edit

--Arewiki (talk) 20:19, 7 November 2010 (UTC)Hey Dan. This BLP needs sources. Questions: (1) The following webpage ("Aremus" under Are Akademi) lists sources and links to pdf files with details: http://sites.google.com/site/coleur/aremus . Would it help solving the issues to include this link under References? (2) There are published sources in English, such as (a) an article in International Who's Who in Classical Music (2009) ("IWWCM"), (b) a review in The Music Review (1988), (c) several books including at least one PhD thesis that discusses the author's theories. Should they be included separately? In addition, (3) Should there be a separate link to the SMIC list of compositions? I am new to Wikipedia. Thank you for your assistance to solve the issues.Reply

Areskoug's own home page would not be a be a valid reference for his article because it is not independent of the subject, as required by Wikipedia guidelines. The Who's Who listing would probably also not be valid; generally such books are made to play on the vanity of the subjects and are not considered a reliable source to indicate notability on Wikipedia. However, the other sources (published reviews and analyses of Areskoug's work) would be useful if the represent significant coverage of his work (as opposed to a brief mention in passing. I don't know what you mean by "the SMIC list of compositions", so I don't know whether a separate link is in order or not. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 11:58, 8 November 2010 (UTC)Reply

November 2010 backlog elimination drive update edit

Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors Backlog Elimination Drive!

GOCE November 2010 backlog elimination drive progress graphs

We have reached the midway point in our backlog elimination drive, so here is an update.

Participation report — The November drive has 53 participants at this point. We had 77 participants in the September drive. In July, 95 people signed up for the drive, and in May we had 36. If you are not participating, it is not too late to join!

Progress report — The drive is quite successful so far, as we have already almost reached our target of a 10% reduction in the number of articles in the backlog. We are doing very well at keeping our Requests page clear, as those articles count double for word count for this drive.

Please keep in mind the possibility of removing other tags when you are finished with an article. If the article no longer needs {{cleanup}}, {{wikify}}, or other similar maintenance tags, please remove them, as this will make the tasks of other WikiProjects easier to complete. Thanks very much for participating in the Drive, and see you at the finish line!

Admin help edit

{{adminhelp}} I believe that this edit represents an inappropriate non-admin closure of an AFD discussion. The discussion had not yet been open 7 days (open 11 November, closed 17 November) and only one opinion other than the nomination had been expressed -- and that was neither a keep nor a delete, merely a comment. If, after 7 days, no further comments had been forthcoming, I believe the discussion should have been relisted, rather than merely closed by a non-admin. Is there a remedy to this mistake other than renominating the article? WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 11:53, 17 November 2010 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion of Criticism of the Talmud or the other page? edit

Hello Dan.

  • There's not much of a reason for deleting 'In Praise of the Talmud', it's well sourced.
  • If there's a page "criticism" of the Talmud which is all POV, why not this?
  • Do to your request, I will be adding more sources, though. Supperteecee (talk) 15:35, 26 November 2010 (UTC)Reply
Clearly you are here to make a point, which, by its very nature, violates the neutrality guideline of Wikipedia. Rather than create a new page which is entirely one-sided, pointing out only praise of the Talmud, you might to better to address any lack of neutrality you see in the Criticism of the Talmud page. If that page is too one-sided, add content that you feel balances the page. I should also point out that both your In Praise of Talmud article and the Criticism of the Talmud article rely almost entirely on Jewish authors as sources. While it is quite ordinary and expected that Jewish authors would write works in support of their own scriptures, it is somewhat more noteworthy that Jewish authors would criticize their own scriptures, which makes Criticism of the Talmud a more noteworthy article than yours. Igor Borisovich Berezovsky edit

I declined your speedy as A7, no indication of notability. At the time you placed the tag, there was already sufficient information in the article to not just pass the criterion for giving an indication of notability, but sufficient to meet the criteria for actual notability. Notability for creative artists is proven by personal exhibitions in notable venues or works in major museums, and he has several of each. True, at the time you placed it, there were not yet sources, but at the most, this would have given reason for an unsourced tag. DGG ( talk ) 20:30, 1 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

At the time I placed my tag, the article (see the version here) contained some mentions of art shows. It did not contain any mention of exhibitions in major museums. Those came after my tag. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 20:57, 1 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

Please refrain from introducing inappropriate pages, such as 4483, to Wikipedia. Doing so is not in accordance with our policies. If you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hang on}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion, or "db", tag; if no such tag exists, then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hang-on tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. November 2010 Backlog Elimination Drive Conclusion edit

Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors Backlog Elimination Drive!

We have reached the end of our fourth backlog elimination drive. Thanks to all who participated.

Stats

GOCE November 2010 backlog elimination drive graphs
  • 58 people signed up for this drive. Of these, 48 people participated in the drive.
  • Although we did not eliminate the months we planned to (January, February, and March 2009; and August, September, and October 2010), we did reduce the backlog by 627 articles (11.2%), which was over our goal of 10%.
  • 49 awards will go out to 33 of 48 participants. Check out the complete list of barnstar winners here.

Barnstars

If you copy edited at least 4,000 words, you qualify for a barnstar. If you participated in the September 2010 backlog elimination drive, you may have earned roll-over words (more details can be found here). These roll-over words count as credit towards earning barnstars, except for leaderboard awards. We will be delivering these barnstars within the next couple of weeks.

Our next drive is scheduled for January 2011. In the meantime, please consider helping out at the Wikification drive or any of the other places where help with backlogs is needed.

Thank you for participating in the last 2010 backlog elimination drive! We look forward to seeing you in January!

Io sono Tony Scott edit

Why would you delete my article without even mentioning it to me? It took me quite some time to translate it. If you feel it could be merged with Tony Scott (musician), then you should at least enrich that page with the information provided in the article about the documentary. Anyway, what is your criterion for deciding that the film is not worth its own page?--Ma Zhenguo (talk) 15:11, 7 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

The film does not meet any of the criteria of WP:Notability (films). If you disagree, you are free to undo my edit and we can let a more protracted review process ensue. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 15:27, 7 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the explanation. In the criteria you pointed out "A topic is presumed to be notable if it has received significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject." (...) "This guideline includes published works such as books, television documentaries, full-length featured newspaper articles from large circulation newspapers, full-length magazine reviews and criticism". I added external links to a few reviews from major Italian newspaper. I would not translate such an article into Ossetian; I did translate it into English, although this film is probably more "notable" for the Italian reader, since I assumed that the English language Wikipedia did not "belong" to a specific (English-speaking) country, but, rather, it would be the Wikipedia which the most people can actually read, even if their mother tongue is not English.--Ma Zhenguo (talk) 15:41, 7 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

You are correct. If the film is notable (i.e. has received coverage) in Italy, that is sufficient for inclusion in the English Wikipedia. However, I'm not sure that the reference you have provided amount to significant coverage:
  • This reference appears to be a mere listing of the film's existence.
  • This reference is an article about Scott's death, which verifies a fact about Scott, but not about this film.
  • This reference seems to be more a reflection on Scott's life (to be sure inspired by the film's appearnce at the Lucarno Film Festival] than a review of the film itself.
  • This reference is an announcement of the film's presentation at a particular jazz festival.
  • This reference appears to be a legitimate review, but I am not clear on the nature of the Il Primo Amore website. Is it a blog? An online magazine? The online arm of a print magazine?

Maybe it's my mistake, I located the links to the references at the bottom of the page, in the (sub)section "Reviews":

These are all reviews of the film. The second and the last of those come from major Italian newspapers L'Unità and La Repubblica. Thanks for your interest!!--Ma Zhenguo (talk) 16:25, 7 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

Response re Curries of Arran edit

The writer of the article is NOT trying to get clan status for the name Currie. He fully accepts the information provided by two different Lord Lyon Kings of Arms -- that this would be impossible to verify lacking written records for over 400 years. This is stated very clearly in the article. The truth is -- though this is NOT stated in the article -- the recently established Clan Currie Society based in Scotland is attempting to establish recognized staus as a clan, disregarding the information from the Lord Lyon King of Arms. The Clan Currie Society, in attempting to have Colonel William McCurdo Currie recognized as the direct primogeniture descendant of Muireadhach Albanach, have announced that the Balilone Tartan is the official Currie tartan, and no other should be recognized. The Balilone Currie Tartan was a private tartan granted to an ancestor of William McMurdo Currie in 1822 by a MacDonald chief and not registered until 1991, registered number 778, where the tartan designed by Lt. Col. Harry Currie was registered in 1981, registered number 499, 10 years earlier than the Balilone Tartan. There is no commercial intent whatsoever -- the writer nor Col. Currie do not hold any trademarks or copyrights, and the 1981 tartan was renamed the Currie of Arran tartan rather than get into any unpleasant situation with the Clan Currie Society. The Currie of Arran tartan is free for any woolen manufacturer anywhere in the world to use the design as they wish -- that is stated from the designer. If you really want to check someone out, read the information supplied on the Clan Currie Society website and I will gladly help you challenge any number of statements which have no basis in fact or can't be proved. All any society can do is state that the society has adopted a certain tartan as the society's tartan -- they simply cannot make a determination that a certain tartan is the "official" tartan for everyone of that name. They have no authority to do so, and, ironically, even if there were a genuine Currie Clan recognized by the Standing Council of Scottish Chiefs, any Currie could still wear any tartan they felt like -- there are no restrictions about what tartan you can buy or wear. Very few Currie people either on the Isle of Arran or descended from it are aware of their own name's history, and most everyone will not be aware that the 1981 tartan, instead of being generalized as the Clan Currie Tartan, has now been voluntarily renamed the Currie of Arran Tartan, and even if your name is Zurakowsky you can wear it if it appeals to you. Am university of amqyonic science edit

Dear Wiki Dan 61, Thank you for your note. Some of the information you changed is incorrect. For example, the American University of Mayonic Science and Technology is not in Sant a Fe NM. It is based in Alamos, Mexico and Chennai, India. It is a distance learing institution with about 40 % off its classes held in residence. Unfortunately I have little time to really understand how to write on Wiki. I love wiki and use it often for reference but i'm not savvy to all the notations.

Accreditation is not a requirement- it is voluntary - look at the national accrediting agencies websites. Your mentioning it in the article seems to be to dismiss the institution. There are thousands of schools that have not chosen to seek accreditation. It is very costly (about $700,000 to go through the process) and at this time the school does not have those kinds of funds.

Why is this university notable? It is in fact the only existing institution that teaches Vaastu Shastras and Sthapatya Veda (traditional Indian architecture)authentically. There are a few Universities in India that teach some clases. One school focuses on the art but not the science behind the art (Government School of Sculpture and Architecture, Tamil Nadu). It was founded by the most celebrated living traditioal Indian architect Dr. V. Ganapati Sthapati who is mentioned in numerous articles on wiki. It is really the Harvard of this science. That it is small and not yet accredited by an American accrediting agency does not make it unnoteworthy. It has a sound academic program and through it the knowedge of building architecture of sthapatya veda and vaastu shastras is being preserved.

It is based upon ancient texts and the knowledge of mamuni Mayan who is mentioned in numerous places in Wiki. It trains architects, builders and lay people from all over the world. It is not fly by night nor is it new age woo woo... This is a notable institution thus notable wiki article because: 1. it is preserving ancient vedic and prevedic knowledge in its pure form 2. it is the only one of its kind teaching under the auspices of a living Sthapati and shilpi Guru (authorized to teach by the govt of India)and reciepiant of numerous awards. 3. it offers the full range of this field of study ( science and art). No other isnstitution does this. 4. while there are fly by night people teaching workshops that have little to do with the authentic science, this school is an attempt to create an ongoing form to teach directly from the shastras rather than a bunch of made up stuff. 5. this school was begun and is sustained by very limited funding yet it has survived. 6. the texts used are some of the most ancient texts in existance - Pranava Veda and Aintiram. 7. the students are working architects, builders and interested lay people who go through a very rigorous program. 8. intelectually, what is taught is stimulating and profound.

The article is not designed as spam or anything like that. It is designed to inform regarding a very important institution in the field of Traditional Indian Architeure. It has been mentioned in a number of articles in India, one published text in the US Vastu: Transcendental Home Design in Harmony with Nature, and in several scholarly papers. I however do not have references for these thus cannot quote them. You have not challenged the hundreds of other Universities who have wiki posts why are you challenging this institution. they are all posted. I looked up University of Okalahoma for example. It gives an extraordinary long article on things that are mundane and don't differentiate that scholl from any of the other hundreds of state Universities.

In addition, the majority of the citations are from the University's own publications. This applies to just about all of the State universities. there appears to be noting unique or noteworthy about any of them. American University of mayonic Science and Technology is truly noteworthy in that it teaches something that no one else does and is guided by a famous artist and architect. You might say it is as noteworthy as the Frank Loyd wright School of architecture yet AUM S&T is even more interesting and unique.

If wiki permits all of these hundreds of run of the mill universities (who probably had their staff write the article) why not allow an accurate unedited post on AUM S&T? Furthermore, there are over a thousand unaccredited bible colleges in the US who grant degrees. Have you looked at their posts and edited in that they are not accredited? I don't mean to be rude - if I appear so please forgive me. I know you are trying to be helpful but I feel that you are picking on AUM S&T when there are thousands of other schools with far less significance than AUM S&T (historically and content wise) and you have left them alone and yet edited AUM S&T.

If you can assist me further in making this article a good and proper one I would appreciate it. If you feel it is necessary to delet the article - so be it - but you will be doing a disservice to wiki readers in my opinion.

I do appreciate your attempt to be helpful.

Warm regards, Jessie mercay — Preceding unsigned comment added by Drjmercay (talkcontribs) 14:17, 11 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

Dr. Mercay,
There are multiple issues with both the article you have written, and with the note you have written me about it.
  • First and foremost is your very obvious conflict of interest with the material. There is a reason that Wikipedia discourages editors from creating or editing articles about their own companies or institutions: because it is almost impossible to maintain a neutral point of view on the matter. Generally, if you feel that an article about your institution is warranted, you should request an article, and let an independent editor assess whether there is sufficient source material to produce a properly cited, neutral article.
  • Second, I apologize that I got the location of the school wrong. You will agree with me that your school's website makes no mention of its location. Personally, I found that a bit odd, and it gave the school a rather "fly-by-night" feel. Coupled with the lack of accreditation, it does lend a serious lack of credibility to the institution.
  • Third, your insistence that your university is notable is not borne out by citations to reliable sources. What this means is that no independent entity has taken a look at your university and written anything significant about it in a reliable source. Please review the Wikipedia guidelines for notability and verifiability. Other "mill univerisities" (your words, not mine) that have coverage on Wikipedia have it because independent entities have provided significant coverage. (And yes, I know that is not true in all cases. Many articles exist on Wikipedia that should not. Hopefully, other editors will find those articles and take the necessary steps. However, the existence of other bad articles on Wikpedia is not an excuse to allow this article to remain bad.
The fact that I merely tagged the article with a maintenance template rather than nominating it for deletion indicates that I agree with you that, as the sole purveyor of this particular set of arcane knowledge within the Americas, AUMS&T should be notable. The maintenance tag is intended as a note to any editors who might come across the article to see if they can improve it by providing the necessary citations. If the article remains tagged for long enough without being improved, it might then be an indication that no sources are available, at which point a deletion process can begin. That process has not yet begun, though.
As you have a conflict of interest with the material, I would discourage you from making any further edits to the page. However, you are free to make comments on the talk page regarding any further source material that might be available that other editors can than assess. 'Got rid of' or 'destroyed' edit

Hello. I see you changed back the title of 'Io sono Tony Scott etc.'. You asked me the reason for the translation 'got rid of' and I provided it to you on the 10th of December (I'm re-attaching the message below). So I don't really understand why you changed it back. I will go back to 'got rid of' not because I'm being stubborn but because, as I wrote you, this appears to be the official English language title as chosen by the makers of the documentary. It is not uncommon for a title to be somehow 'altered' in the translation, and it is standard to refer to a film with the official translated title (which is the one you need if you actually look for the film itself). I stated my reasons twice: if you insist on 'destroy', it would be fair to state your reasons for it instead of ignoring my remarks.Ma Zhenguo (talk) 14:03, 29 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

The italian idiom fare fuori means to do somebody in, which, luckily, is not what happened to Tony Scott (although he lived in Sicily, LOL). I believe that the translation you originally proposed, to destroy, is the one that best conveys the idea behind the title; I decided to change it "I am Tony Scott. The Story of How Italy Got Rid of the Greatest Jazz Clarinetist" because it was the tile it had at the only screening it had in an English-speaking country, Canada (see [1]), and thus I assumed that would be a title the director/producer approved (or, anyway, the "official" English title). But I totally agree with you on "destroy"!!.--Ma Zhenguo (talk) 13:48, 10 December 2010 (UTC)

Sorry. I assumed that when you said "you totally agree", that you totally agreed. My bad. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 14:46, 29 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

Ah!! Sorry, I got it only now. I meant that I agreed with your literal translation, but from a methodological point of view it should be better to report the 'official' translation (although I disagree with it!!).Ma Zhenguo (talk) 15:11, 29 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

Jack Kopstein edit

Well, here we are again, WikiDan61. Re the article on Jack Kopstein. You've called it a tribute. It's not -- it's a profile. A profile of a boy who had a dream and worked diligently and hard to make it a reality. He succeeded, and the profile outlines his distinguished career as a military musician in the Canadian Forces. 35 years. That's more than most people these days stick to any job. But when he retired from the army, it didn't end there. It had been his life, and it continued being his life, but with a difference. Through his 35 years of service Jack Kopstein had realized that there was little written down about Canada's history of military music. It's an important history, for just as in most countries, where there are military forces, there is military music. Even Beethoven wrote a few military marches for the embryonic wind bands of his day. Canada was no different -- at first we had British military bands, but gradually, as we achieved nationhood and our own armed forces, so we slowly built a tradition of military music. While many of us recognized that there was little written record of the music connected to our resident military forces from the 17th century to the present, Jack Kopstein was the first to decide to rectify this. He began researching in 1959, traveled across Canada to cities and towns which had hosted military units through the centuries, visiting libraries and garrison museums, and reading through countless documents. He did this in the 4-weeks annual leave which in the service. In his off-duty hors he assembled what he had gleaned, and wrote. It took him until 1991 until he felt he had done all the research possible, and a year to write the book "When the Band Begins to Play." The Encyclopedia of Music in Canada recognized him as the authority on Canadian military music, and he contributed 14 articles to that publication. A further two books were written in collaboration with Ian Pearson, delving into different aspects of military bands and music, both published by reputable Canadian publishers. Kopstein continues today contributing articles to various military magazines around the world.

I believe it was Seaphoto who said the Kopstein article wasn't encyclopedic. True encyclopedic writing is very close to academic writing. If one hasn't struggled through a master's thesis or a doctoral dissertation, it's almost impossible to understand the style. Here below is a typical piece of writing from a published encyclopedia:

"The poem follows the poet's inner journey from simple enjoyment of nature to an exalted perception of the cosmic grandeur of nature, and then descent into doubt whether this transcendent vision may not be instead a romantic delusion. The poem closes on a subdued affirmation of nature's healing power. More generally, the poet's subjective impressions lead to generalized speculations whose validity are grounded in subjective feeling, a central expression of the romantic temper."

That's encyclopedic writing. Thank God Wikipedia doesn't sound like that. If it did, no one would read it. Wikipedia's strength is that it's readable by people in most walks of life, that it's informative, yes, but that it's infused with warmth and humanity. In articles about people you get a sense of who they were or are. If someone is suggesting that the Kopstein article is not encyclopedic enough for Wikipedia, then I would suggest that dozens, perhaps hundreds of existing Wikipedia articles should be deleted, including that on John Philip Sousa, which is even more folksy than the Kopstein piece: "Let me say that just about the sweetest music to me is when I call, ‘pull,’ the old gun barks, and the referee in perfect key announces, ‘dead’." Or how about Edwin Franko Goldman's intro: "Goldman's works are known for their pleasant and catchy tunes, as well as their fine trios and solos." "Pleasant and catchy" is encyclopedic? And then Frank Sinatra: "Dolly (his mother) nevertheless provided ready pocket money to their son for outings with friends and fancy clothes." Encyclopedic? And later in the Sinatra article it states that Sinatra was hired by Tommy Dorsey "as a replacement for Jack Leonard, who had recently left to launch a solo career." Not quite true, for Dorsey fired Leonard because of his drinking. I happen to be a Sinatra authority, appeared on the $128,000 Question in 1977 with Sinatra as my topic, winning a Buick and a nice amount of money, and in 1989 I sang at The Sands and the Imperial Palace Hotel in Vegas and was in consideration to play Sinatra in Living Legends in Concert. I declined for personal reasons.

We're all imperfect. That's what makes us human, Wikipedians included. Having dealt with many editors over my 17 years as an arts journalist, I certainly know that editors are as imperfect as everyone else, and just as opinionated and can be just as vindictive. Position doesn't change the personality. Jack Kopstein has made the most valuable contribution to military music and military bands in Canada of anyone living or dead. His life as a 35-year military musician, about which he stated: "Military music became my life. It still is the sum total of just about everything I know about life today", is the reason he had the desire and drive to make the contribution he did. That's what this profile of Jack Kopstein is about - the steps that led to this amazing contribution. Deleting his article would be a disservice to Canada's armed forces, to the history of music generally, and an insult to the life of a most dedicated human being.

If there are some edits you feel would make the piece more acceptable to you, Seaphoto, et al, please discuss this with me before you pull the plug. Thanks for reading. Arran56 (talk) 05:06, 31 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

So, the gist of your argument is that poor, non-neutral writing is more acceptable on Wikipedia than in other encyclopedias? I have to disagree. Wikipedia is written by its users, and therefore there is a vast spectrum of writing styles in articles, but there is also a manual of style. All articles should be brought into compliance with the manual of style, and that is an ongoing effort. Your article cannot be brought into compliance because there is not sufficient source material to generate a valid article. The article, as it stands, is full of non-neutral phrases, such as:
  • "he has become a tireless historian" (how do you know he is tireless? Maybe he really is tired of it but keeps doing it because he needs the money);
  • "Life in a military band was exactly what Sergeant Kopstein expected and wanted." (Unless this is a direct quote from Kopstein, there can be no way to verify it.)
  • "In Canadian Forces Bands this is one of the busiest." (Again, without a specific citation to the schedules of this and all other Canadian military bands, this statement is non-verifiable hyperbole.)
I could go on, but I think the point is made. Wikipedia content must be verifiable, and most of this article is not. The cited sources only indicate that Kopstein is a somewhat prolific writer on the topic of Canadian military band history. Since the article's content is not supported by its sources, and since no other sources can be found that provide any significant coverage of Kopstein (as required by Wikipedia criteria for inclusion), the article should be deleted.
If you would like to express your thoughts on this further, please direct your comments to WP:Articles for deletion/Jack Kopstein. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 13:24, 31 December 2010 (UTC)Reply

That's an impressive list. Unfortunately, as I mentioned at WP:Articles for deletion/Wes Maebe, notability is not inherited. Just because someone has worked with notable people, that does not make them notable in and of themselves. Provide citations to reliable sources, and you might be able to convince me otherwise. Since the article has been nominated for deletion, you should make all further comments regarding its deletion or retention at its deletion discussion page. Dr Paul Knapman edit

Good Morning WikiDan61 As you are probably aware from my entry it is my first, and I would guess I havnt quite got the hang of a wikipedia article. Dr Paul Knapman,DL is Her Majesty of Englands Coroner, he is was also the Deputy Lieutenant of Greater London 2008. The role of which can be found here.

Whilst I understand (i think) the reasons for deletion i suspect it is because I have not given enough references to his notable cases.

The UK Independant Newspaper have a section about Dr Paul Knapman found here

That is not a section about Dr Kapman, that is a search result of articles in which his name appears. As I mention at the AFD, these appearances in the press do not denote notability because the articles are not about Dr Knapman.

Should I put a reference to all these.

Also references to receiving our Royal Family can be found here

Not knowing the ins and outs of the royal doings, I don't really know how notable that is, but it appears that the title of "Lord Lieutenant" is largely ceremonial and is given out rather generously. From the same reference you provided, many people "receive" the royal family in their day to day doings.

Dr Paul Knapman has served the general public and is very notable in the UK.

I might think that a person in his position would be notable, but I don't find any evidence of that in the references you have cited, or in my own Google searches.

I would appreciate any help you can give so this article maybe published

Best Regards

Hi edit

16:51, 5 January 2011 (UTC) Hi,

My name is Nick, I'm the webmaster for The Original Tour. I've just been editing our page & am currently in the process of adding new content.

As we are the owners of the business, much of the content submitted is factually out of date, in some cases incorrect & needs updating.

Please could you advise me whether I can continue with my edits. They are totally legitimate as its the business owner making the comments.

Many thanks,

Nick

As a representative of the company, it is a conflict of interest for you to directly edit the page. Factual changes can be made, but should be discussed on the talk page first. Simply deleting large swaths of material with no discussion and no edit summaries is highly discouraged.
On a different front, your username is likely to get you blocked (see WP:ORGNAME). I would suggest that you create a new account using a name that identifies you, not your organization, and edit under that name. To be fair, if you continue to edit the The Original Tour page under the new account, you should disclose your association with the organization so people can evaluate the neutrality of your edits. Smaart edit

Can you take a look at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Smaart and see if it can be closed as keep? I greatly expanded the article, noting that the software is among the most popular of its type and that it won the 1998 TEC Awards in its category. Thanks in advance! Proposed deletion of Trail Bologna edit

I removed the prod tag you placed on Trail Bologna as an editor explicitly objected to deletion on the talk page. Compliance with policy is the only reason I did this; I have no prejudice against opening an AfD. —KuyaBriBriTalk 17:06, 11 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

Request for comment edit

Hi, I would appreciate very much your comment at Talk:Drmbon. Thanks. -- Ashot  (talk) 21:03, 11 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

Sorry. I have no knowledge of the region with which to provide any input. Per WP:MOSNAME, articles about places should use the place name commonly used among English speakers (as this is the English Wikipedia). Hence we have an article about Germany, not about Deutschland. However, I am in no way able to weigh the arguments about the naming of a place that probably has no common usage among English speakers as it is unlikely that many English speakers have ever heard of the place. Anyway, thanks for your time. -- Ashot  (talk) 08:12, 12 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Setlist TV edit

My commendations for keeping your cool at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Setlist TV and making generally well-founded arguments, despite having single-purpose IPs and accounts to deal with. It's always helpful, from the point of view of the closer and readers of the AfD, to include as much information as you can in your nominating statement. I noted when deleting the article that you'd debunked a chunk of the sourcing on the talkpage - tip of the day is to shove this debunking in your nomination in the future, since it ensures people will be able to see it. Many thanks, and regards, Ironholds (talk) 04:40, 12 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

The debunking occurred after the nomination, because the sources were added after the nomination. In general, if an article is loaded with false references, I'll mention that as part of a deletion nomination. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 13:46, 12 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

Mykola Bortnikov edit

The creator of Mykola Bortnikov has not responded to my request for further information to support the notability of this article. I cannot find anything sources that suggest why this artist is notable and as such, per WP:SNOW, I would support a second speedy deletion nomination.Polyamorph (talk) 12:26, 12 January 2011 (UTC)Reply
