G11 deletion of my page

Hi,

My first attempt in creating a web page for my venture was turned down. I am kind of new to this process so do I dare ask for a explanation? The explanations (common reasons) are not sufficient. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Shinchan007 (talkcontribs) 18:07, 21 April 2009 (UTC)

deleting michael messenger

You're action is a bit premature. I was asked to create the page by Michael messenger and in fact I built the website that you claim I have misused!

Please undo your actions. Paul West Paulwest (talk) 15:39, 22 April 2009 (UTC)

So an article providing information, in the form of a biography is advertising or promotion is it. Well in one way anything on wikipedia ia promotion - and if you honestly beleive anything different you're niaive. Everytime you provide an external link to another website it's advertising.

And wait a minute - first off you say you've deleted it because of copyright reasons and now you start talking about advertising. If you no longer believe that ciopyright has been infringed then you should put the page back! Paul West 22nd AprilPaulwest (talk) 17:18, 22 April 2009 (UTC)

I think the answer is that it was both a copyright infringement and promotional. You might like to use Wikipedia:Articles for creation so that you can get your article reviewed by other editors. Regards, — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 17:22, 22 April 2009 (UTC)

Apology noted - I refer you back to my initial comment!!! Next time you open your "mouth without engaging your brain" I suggest you look at the page of James Dyson. Advertising indeed! Anyway despite having wasted some considerable time I have redrafted a page, along the lines of the Dyson page though without the clear promotional links in the text and I have rewritten the copy from scratch. I will try and post it again but I hope that your actions to date do not stop me - I am unable to find a page called Michael Messenger that I can edit - so if your actions are blocking my new one I will be less than pleased and will completely understand why your page has been defaced so many times...Paulwest (talk) 19:07, 22 April 2009 (UTC)

Pen Island

Hey. I'm a bit confused as to why Pen Island (talk · contribs) was blocked. Could you please explain? Thanks, –Juliancolton | Talk 00:35, 24 April 2009 (UTC)

Sure. I saw your comment right after I blocked, so I think I know where you're coming from. This name depends on where you see the space. Read one way it's "Pen Island" and another way, it's "Penis Land". I looked at the user's deleted contributions (and drew on my regrettable middle school experiences) and saw a disruptive username. Of course, I welcome a review of the case, so any comments are appreciated. I don't know what's worse though- the fact that this joke is still in vogue or the fact that I recognized it right away. :( TNXMan 00:42, 24 April 2009 (UTC)
My rationale for reporting this username: at face value there was nothing wrong with it, but the content alone was disruptive, and made it clear that the double-entendre was intended. JNW (talk) 00:46, 24 April 2009 (UTC)
Fair enough. Thanks to both of you for the clarification. –Juliancolton | Talk 00:50, 24 April 2009 (UTC)

LivingKnowledge page deletion

Dear Tnxman307, I noticed you deleted the page called LivingKnowledge that I wrote, citing "Unambiguous advertising or promotion" as the reason for doing it. I kindly ask you to please restore the page, so that I can edit it in order to make it satisfy Wikipedia's notability criteria. Thank you. --Livingknowledge (talk) 08:40, 25 April 2009 (UTC)

I have restored the content, but I encourage you to also do some reading on how to edit/improve articles. This guide to writing your first article is useful. Also, the guide to advertising on Wikipedia, conflict of interest, and writing from a neutral point of view should come in handy. You can find the restored content at User:Livingknowledge/Sandbox (I have deleted the categories, as it is currently a user page. You can re-add them when the article moves back to the mainspace.) TNXMan 12:33, 25 April 2009 (UTC)

Your assistance please...

I'd like to review the contents of an article you deleted: Human Relief Foundation, and see if there is anything from it that merits inclusion into the current article. Geo Swan (talk) 04:09, 26 April 2009 (UTC)

No problem, although I don't know that it will be much help. Please find the text copy/pasted below. If you'd like the text restored to a sandbox or something similar, just let me know.
HRF

Human Relief Foundation (HRF) is a UK-based registered charity that provides emergency relief aid and assistance to third-world countries. HRF was established in 1991 by a group of dedicated and committed professionals. They wanted to alleviate the suffering of the ordinary people of Iraq who were affected by the Gulf War of 1991 and the UN sanctions imposed on the country. This relief work has since expanded to other countries and areas. These include Somalia, Ethiopia, Chechnya, Bosnia, Kosovo, Kashmir, Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Palestine and many other areas. HRF's humanitarian relief work has gained international recognition. In April 2003 the charity was granted Special Consultative Status with the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations. HRF is a signatory of the Code of Conduct for the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement. It is a member of many recognised humanitarian bodies. HRF also maintains co-operation links with other humanitarian organisations in the UK, the Gulf and around the world. - HRF saves and preserves life during emergencies and in their immediate aftermath. it relieve suffering caused by both natural and man-made disasters including earthquakes, droughts, wars and conflicts, etc. - HRF responds to provide aid when there is major loss of life, material damage, and physical, psychological and social suffering. - HRF undertakes short-term rehabilitation and reconstruction. It work closely with local structures to ensure that relief reaches those who need it, without delay. - HRF aims to prevent the impact of the crisis worsening. It helps the people affected to regain a minimum level of self-sufficiency. - HRF improves the living standards of those in need through long-term development programmes. The projects cover health, social and education issues. It also sponsors orphans, widows, disabled people and other vulnerable individuals. HRF has been saving lives and relieving suffering around the world since 1991. It have helped hundreds of individuals and communities through aid, education and care. It extend a helping hand to the world's most destitute people. Ongoing conflict, hunger and poverty all take new forms, yet all give the same old results: the suffering of men, women and children. HRF has become the first point of reference for donors and sister agencies who wish to help the people of Iraq. It have conducted projects around the world - in Asia, the Middle East, Africa and Eastern Europe. The expansion of our projects has brought about structural growth in the areas where It work.. its head office is in Bradford, UK. It also have branches in London, Glasgow, Iraq (Baghdad and Mosul), Kashmir, Pakistan, Sudan and Jordan.

I believe the same info can be found on their website. Let me know if there's anything else I can do. Best, TNXMan 04:16, 26 April 2009 (UTC)
Excuse me butting in. It is probably simplest to restore the deleted revisions to the page history, which I have now done ;) — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 06:58, 26 April 2009 (UTC)
How is that done? I've heard about it, but couldn't quite figure it out. I suppose when you look at the deleted edits, you simply restore them without overwriting the current state? Anyways, thanks Martin! TNXMan 14:18, 26 April 2009 (UTC)
Correct. It makes one of the diffs look wrong (e.g. [1]) but has the benefit of letting others see what happened to the article before. Now for level 2: do you know how to delete a few revisions of a page? — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 14:25, 26 April 2009 (UTC)
I do know how to do that. It's simply a matter of checking the boxes of the revisions you want restored. I had to remove some unsourced BLP stuff from an article once, so I got that one. Thanks for the assist! TNXMan 14:28, 26 April 2009 (UTC)

Antonio Morelli page deletion

Hi there Tnxman307, omg that was weird. took me a minute to figure out what was happening with that page... i thought i was getting logged out by my computer but i finally just sllllooooowwwwwed down and started to read. and lo and behold eventually recognized what had happened.

I saw two edits on your part for the page i was building for antonio morelli. one was for vandalism. (Is it ok if i ask you a question or two here on your page?) I am new to wiki creating/editing, read the whole tutorial before i attempted to even begin to do anything (totally anal/ocd like that, at least try to be) and doing my best to not break any rules and meet the standards.

(A friend recently told me that he thought entering the creation and editing of wikipedia is highly addictive and i should be careful. that he is now totally addicted to it. Ok so yes i have been doing it all day. but honestly, really really liking it. a safe harmless hobby.)

In any case, i found it weird that Morelli didn't have a page on here, even though he is famous for being the 'rat pack' musical conductor for so many years etc, so i chatted with the girls over at the junior league in Las vegas, who informed that they wanted to create one; i told them i would give it a try and then add that 'needs more work banner up at the top' and they could then have at it as much as they wanted to.

Because i didn't know HOW to create a background box from scratch -- i did a search for all articles that mention Morelli, wrote them all down, and just copied the code of one into the Morelli edit box with the intention of then replacing it as fast as i could with new information relevant to HIM that i was finding while researching him online. Which i was able to do pretty quickly. So my 1st question is this: is this not allowed? Can we not copy code from another article just so we have the code there in order to fill it in with the right info? If not, then is there a special place we go to find that particular code we are looking for? Such as a "backgrounder box?" I have no problem with doing it this way, or even just copying the correct code into a file on my computer and then pasting it in. I was not intentionally trying to vandalize anything. (reason for speedy deletion i noticed.) I am happy to do it however it is supposed to be done. This just seemed like the fastest way. Please advise when you get the time.

Then i noticed that the page got deleted again. (i guess i didn't realize that the first time that the page had been deleted. I thought it was a computer glitch and logged out and back in.) Hence my continuing to work on the page after you had deleted it. Second question: I noticed it's second deletion was due to G8 - dependent on a page that has been deleted. I am assuming that you were referring to that same morelli page yes? For the life of me i could not figure out what page it was "dependent on." Then i looked deeper into your contribs and saw the first deletion. So i am assuming that is what you are referring to. Yes? that same page itself. meaning, don't try to revert a page's deletion without first "talking" to whoever did it in the first place. Yes?

Are you an editor at Wikipedia? (if you are, that AND this is very cool. I think the world is having a big lovefest with wikipedia right now. so i assume it's a pretty cool job to have. Or are you just a totally addicted and passionate user like others? Just curious. (and yes, i am aware that perhaps this info might ALSO be avail somewhere once i figure out how to look up profile data for users. Which i do not know how to do yet.

Anyway, i believe i fixed all the copy and paste stuff on that page and have many browser windows open with relevant articles on the man. So i believe i have citations aplenty on his life and such. I am not quite sure of the protocol but would it be OK if i continue to work on his article as long as i don't copy and paste anymore? (or again, is the copying and pasting of "code only" alright? Please advise.

Also, is there a place where the page still is? So users do not have to start from scratch? And also is there a way to save a draft of it before saving the page in case this happens again? I have read the sandbox idea; i am just not sure HOW to save it as a draft to my sandbox... not yet at least.

thank you for your time in reading, and apologies for the vandalism and then reversion of the page without first checking more carefully to see what was actually happening there. JTtmg (talk) 06:20, 26 April 2009 (UTC)JTtmg

I see what you were trying to do now. I apologize for jumping and deleting your page. (Sometimes, people will vandalize Wikipedia by copy/pasting articles to a new title and putting their own name in there - why, I have no idea) Anyway, I have moved your page to Antonio Morelli and will add it to my watchlist so I can keep an eye on it. If you ever have any questions about how to edit an article or how to use Wikipedia, drop me a line. If no one else has done so, I'll drop you a template on your talk page with links to get you started. Best, TNXMan 14:31, 26 April 2009 (UTC)

Extremely Sorry!

Tnxman, I had asked my friend Alan to make me a Wikipedia account, and he pulled a prank by making a page about me! I was really mad and I felt really terrible because it had lies and it probably wasted your time. It was disgusting, to know that he claimed that I would be dating that 20 yr old! Ew! Some of the info might've been correct, though, as he said, he typed down my early life and everything (no wonder he was asking me all those questions!). I am so terribly, DEEPLY sorry about that! He probably didn't realize he could get sued for doing so. You don't have to reply but I'd love to know if you accepted my apology. It's no problem. Enjoy Wikipedia! TNXMan 14:38, 26 April 2009 (UTC)

Smoove

Dear Tnxman307,

I just wrote a page about a fairly new system of bike sharing called smoove, which is a competitor of Vélib'. I put up that page to answer questions about that system. I really don't see why vélib could have a page and Smoove could not! I agree that I wrote that page based on promotional data that describes the offer, but it's conveying information that is otherwise simply not available.

So please, unerase that page (I don't know how that's done though).

Thank you, Christian Mercat (and yes, I do have shares in this firm mind you).Christian.Mercat (talk) 17:55, 21 April 2009 (UTC)

Your article was deleted because it appeared to be advertising. All articles on Wikipedia must be written from a neutral point of view and cannot promote or advertise.
Thanks for your time explaining things to me, excuse the newbie, but I personally don't think it's advertising but informing. The reason I put up the French page was that there were questions asked by contributors in order to clarify some arguments other people (not us) were having, and then I thought that it was legitimate to have an English version of it. I think the exposition was neutral, I believe that it was in the interest of wikipedians to learn that there are other solutions than JCDecaux, ClearChanel and Bixi around. The issue is, you can not tell the difference if you don't describe the solution, can you? Or else it just chit-chat, this solution is the best one without explaining why, ending up in this solution is the only one because you can't talk about the others... I thought being accurate was a good thing.
Furthermore, in order to have an article, the subject must have received coverage in independent reliable sources.
It has, hundreds of publications, but only in French. Google "Vélomagg'", our solution in Montpellier, and you'll find some. That means that it doesn't interest English speaking wikipedians? The system was short listed in Minneapolis, so American people could know about that. But they won't if they can't read French.
Finally, I would encourage you to read our info on conflict of interest. TNXMan 18:00, 21 April 2009 (UTC)
Ok. I do have a personal interest in it, and I might not convince you that I am honestly thinking it's more information than promotion. But does that means that I have to wait for someone without any interest to raise the subject? I could stream down the article to a few sentences if that's would suit wikipedia? Because I didn't have time to adjust my level of speech or add references suitable for English media, you just erased the article straightaway. I can as well suggest to write such a page to some of the French contributors of the bike sharing sections and keep away from it, would that suit wikipedia editorial line?
Thanks for your time, best regards,Christian.Mercat (talk) 09:11, 22 April 2009 (UTC)

I think the best solution is to work on the article in a sandbox. Much the user in the section below this one, I can create a sandbox for you where you can work on the article and ask other editors to review it for you. This helps identify issues without the risk of outright deletion. Once the article is firmed up, you can move the page to the mainspace. TNXMan 11:50, 22 April 2009 (UTC)

Ok, thanks, I understand. Sorry for the trouble. I have setup this: User:Christian.Mercat/Sandbox I hope I am not mistaken in the process. So I am going to work on it. How should I ask for an assessment regarding its suitability, by posting you a message? I am going to lower what you interpret as an over enthusiastic tone (I understand I have to make an effort), and by how much should I shrink its length (if any)? Regards Christian.Mercat (talk) 12:14, 22 April 2009 (UTC)
I'd be happy to look over the article once you've made some improvements. Just drop me a note here and let me know. TNXMan 13:17, 22 April 2009 (UTC)
Dear Tnxman, I summarized and took a dead pan tone, please have a look at my sand box and tell me whether it's ok or if I should still work on it. Thanks for your pedagogy and your time.Christian.Mercat (talk) 10:34, 23 April 2009 (UTC)
Dear Tnxman, I created a new page Vélomagg' to put some information about this bike sharing scheme on its own right, linked from Montpellier#Transport. I linked Smoove from therein. Is it acceptable? Thanks.Christian.Mercat (talk) 13:25, 25 April 2009 (UTC)
It looks like a good start. The tone is very neutral, which is also good. The next step is to expand the article by citing independent reliable sources. Are there any independent reviews of the system which could be mentioned? TNXMan 13:29, 25 April 2009 (UTC)
Thanks for your encouraging comment. I linked some articles in French, to the main newspaper in Southern France (Midi Libre), to a national fair website intended for mayors and the like, to some e-magazines. I haven't found any information in English though...Christian.Mercat (talk) 16:15, 25 April 2009 (UTC)
I did find a reference in English, in a large European conference. I think it's time to move it back to the main wikipedia, don't you think? Thanks for your help improving the article. Christian.Mercat (talk) 17:00, 25 April 2009 (UTC)
I think the article needs a little more work. (I've taken a stab at cleaning up a little bit.) The final piece to the puzzle is integrating the sources you found in to the article. For example, if you've found something from Independent Reviewer X that says "Smoove is one of the ten best bike-sharing companies today", then you can go ahead and put it in the article, as it helps demonstrate company notability. TNXMan 17:57, 25 April 2009 (UTC)
Dear Tnxman, so I did put some work on the references part, backing up every claim by a citation from a public medium. The problem is that only 2 of them are in English. I gave some translated quotations for each article in French. Another issue is that not that many inline articles are pointing to it. I don't want to put too many myself though. Let the people find the relevance of this article and link to it, is that the way to proceed? If you are happy with the changes, can you please put it back in the general wikipedia? Thanks a lot for your work and your time. Christian.Mercat (talk) 14:03, 27 April 2009 (UTC)
The article has been moved to Smoove, as I feel it just makes it past the notability threshold. Best of luck. TNXMan 14:37, 27 April 2009 (UTC)
Thanks Tnxman! I can really see that it is in a much better shape now thanks to your help. Luck to you too!Christian.Mercat (talk) 15:35, 27 April 2009 (UTC)

R+L Carriers Deletion

Hello Tnxman. I am writing to challenge the deletion of R+L Carriers based on your decision of it being "G12: Unambiguous copyright infringement of http://www.rlcarriers.com/history.asp") At the bottom of the page "http://www.rlcarriers.com/history.asp" we have noted that we have released the content of the page under the GFDL ("The text content of this page, titled "The R+L History" (http://www.rlcarriers.com/history.asp), is provided under the terms contained in the GNU Free Documentation License.") I believe that this addresses the first terms in the G12 that it is released under a free license ("Text pages that contain copyrighted material with no credible assertion of public domain, fair use, or a free license, where there is no non-infringing content on the page worth saving.") Besides this point I would also like to point out that R+L Carriers sponsors many events (college football bowl game, NASCAR, NHRA, and many others) that have also linked to R+L Carriers from their Wikipedia page. This page had been deleted previously to us releasing the citation under the GFDL and since then there has been no problems. Please let me know what we can do to resolve this situation due to the fact that we have roughly 30 links to this page from within Wikipedia. Thanks for your time. TruckTech (talk) 13:11, 23 April 2009 (UTC)

I see where the text has been released under the GFDL. However, there is another issue which may also cause the article to be deleted- the promotional tone. Remember, all articles must be written from a neutral point of view and cannot promote or advertise. I can restore the content to a sandbox for you so you can work on improving it, if you'd like. TNXMan 13:17, 23 April 2009 (UTC)
Could you restore the content to a sandbox and let me know what parts of the page contains "promotional tone"? I respect your advice and I would like to get this page back to "live" as soon as possible. Thanks again for responding so quickly. TruckTech (talk) 13:53, 23 April 2009 (UTC)
The article has been restored and you can find it at User:TruckTech/Sandbox. As for the promotional tone, it mostly comes from the material copied from the website. To get some tips on how to write for an encyclopedia, this guide would be the best place to start. TNXMan 14:27, 23 April 2009 (UTC)
I have read that article you have suggested and removed all promotional sounding prose, peacock / weasel words, and everything else I could find to make this article Wikipedia worthy. I am much obliged to your speedy response and help. TruckTech (talk) 15:01, 23 April 2009 (UTC)
Great! The next step is to include references to third-party reliable sources. Are there any independent reviews or news articles about the company? TNXMan 15:12, 23 April 2009 (UTC)
FYI Tnxman, TruckTech left the same message on my talk page, and I replied "... It also says "Copyright 2009" at the bottom of the page, with a link that includes "No other use of any of the content of this Site is permitted without the express written consent of R+L CARRIERS." This means it's not GFDL. ..." - Dan Dank55 (push to talk) 15:26, 23 April 2009 (UTC)
Hmm, I see your point. I missed that link. I'm not sure how that works, though. Can one page from a website be released and the rest of the page be protected? Anyways, the best way around this is for the user to re-write the pertinent sections (which need to be in a more encyclopedic tone regardless, as mentioned above). It's been userfy-ed for the moment, so let's see where it goes from there. TNXMan 15:30, 23 April 2009 (UTC)
First off, (to tnxman and dank55) thank you both for you quick replies. OK... http://www.rlcarriers.com/history.asp has been released under the GFDL. No other page on the site has been released under such license. We have cleared this with our attorneys that we would be able to release the contents of said 'history' page. I do not believe that the content currently on the R+L Carriers wikipedia page has any promotional sounding prose. I have tried to rework this as much as I could to hold up to wikipedia standards. I have also added 4 references / citations to strengthen the merit of the facts that I have listed. I hope that these references are a step in the right direction. I am willing to work as long and as hard as I can on this issue to have submitted an entry that is worthy of wikipedia, its readers, and its administrators. Please let me know what else I can do to resolve this issue. I hope they are paying you well for all your hard work!! TruckTech (talk) 18:07, 23 April 2009 (UTC)

<- I've started to work on the article a little bit also. You should also look for third-party sources to back up the info listed in the article. See our page on reliable sources for more. Best, TNXMan 18:31, 23 April 2009 (UTC)

I've added more links that have backed up our 'history' section and removed the problematic link to our homepage (http://www.rlcarriers.com/history.asp.) I'm beginning to understand this process, so thanks for being patient with me and directing me to the right locations! I will keep searching for citations to backup the content on the page. Thanks again for being such a big help! TruckTech (talk) 20:33, 23 April 2009 (UTC)
No problem. I'm glad you've taken an interest in this and am happy to help! TNXMan 20:44, 23 April 2009 (UTC)
Hey tnXman. I see that the R+L Carriers page has just been tagged for a 'conflict in interest'. I don't see how this is a problem if the article is strictly factual and the content has outside sources. Via Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations
"To put it another way, articles should be written in natural, but neutral, language and merely summarize factual information from third-party articles, studies, reports and books that are already in print. This is in contrast to what many people with a conflict of interest do, which is to write in a promotional tone summarizing their own highly favorable personal knowledge and opinions of the topic. If you can write articles just by summarizing sources in a neutral tone, it is much less likely that you will run into any kind of problems with other editors."
I don't believe that there are opinionated sections on this article. Could you lend me your expertise on this topic? Thanks again. I appreciate it. TruckTech (talk) 12:11, 24 April 2009 (UTC)
Sure. Actually, I wasn't aware the article had been moved back to the mainspace. Whenever an editor adds tags to an article that you don't feel are justified, the best course is usually to ask the editor that added them. In this case, it appears that User:TheJazzDalek added the tags. I think that you are OK on both counts, but it's generally considered courteous to ask the tagging editor. Best, TNXMan 13:04, 24 April 2009 (UTC)
Got it. Thanks! TruckTech (talk) 13:21, 24 April 2009 (UTC)

Sandbox for Still Water page editing

Dear Tnxman,

I'd like to rework my recent article on Still Water (a lab at the University of Maine) to make the tone neutral and thus avoid the identification as "advertising." Would you please set the page up in a sandbox for me?

And just so I understand: if I believe I have corrected the problem, would I then re-create the page after editing, or would you be willing to give the revision a look if I simply post again to this talk page?

Many thanks, in advance, for your help!

Jon Ippolito (talk) 22:13, 26 April 2009 (UTC)

The page has been moved to a sandbox and you can find it at User:Jon Ippolito/Sandbox. I would have no problem looking at the article for you, but I would encourage you to do some reading first, specifically this guide to your first article, the rules about conflicts of interest, and our rules about writing from a neutral point of view. Also, please remember to include independent reliable sources that show why the organization is notable. TNXMan 00:11, 27 April 2009 (UTC)

Natural money theory etc

In todays economic crisis everyone is looking for an understanding of the past and a model for the future. I have developed a whole packagge starting from the new economic theory 'minieconomics' combined with a new activity theory 'natural activity level theory'. From this base a series of new concepts have arisen such as the 'natural money theory' ann 'national capitalism'. For some reason I cannot start a page Nationa Capitalism although it is distinctly differentiated from National corporatism etc. Please help me to put my series on Wikipedia for the benefit of all.

Help with pictures please

I just uploaded a picture to Wikimedia. I must have named it well because it appeared on the correct article in Wikipedia without further action. Now how do I get the second picture on the article I will shortly extend. --Euc (talk) 06:08, 23 April 2009 (UTC)

Hmm, I'm not sure how that happened. To insert a picture, you usually have to insert the proper code into the relevant section of the article. It's usually something like [[File:Example.jpg]]. As for your second picture, simply upload the same way you did the first and insert it into the article. You can make the picture do different things (align to one side, be a thumbnail, etc.) by using different parameters. You can see a list of them at WP:Image syntax. TNXMan 11:52, 23 April 2009 (UTC)

I have no idea how it happened either. I was staggered. Thanks for the reference and being so helpful. See how I go. I am still finding my way around half a day. Richard Chadwick

Why are you redirecting the article on Richard Chadwick, there are notable reasons why he should be considered article worthy. He's the 2nd longest member of hawkwind, come one! there's an article on Ron Tree why can't there be a Richard Chadwick one.

The article has been redirected because there is no evidence that Chadwick is notable enough for his own article. If you can provide independent reliable sources that show why Chadwick is notable outside Hawkwind, then we can begin to write an article about him. TNXMan 14:57, 30 April 2009 (UTC)

Deletion of Integration Point Inc.

Tnxman307, the page Integration Point Inc was cited for being deleted because of unambigious advertising. Can you please explain what exactly seems to be advertising and what needs to be fixed in order for the Integration Point Inc page to merit a Wikipedia article? Please also see Management Dynamics page as well - if Integration Point Inc is unambigious advertising, I believe that the Management Dynamics article may also fall in the category. Thanks! The article was deleted as it appeared to be promoting the company's products and services. I encourage you to read our info on writing your first article, advertising and promotion, and writing from a neutral point of view. I would suggest removing the material that describes the company's services/products/etc., unless they are backed up by independent reliable sources. The more of that type of info is in the article, the more the article looks like a company brochure instead of an encyclopedia entry. TNXMan 18:21, 30 April 2009 (UTC)

I have proposed the article be deleted because it does not show why the website is notable. I would encourage you to work on the article in a sandbox in your userspace and move it out to the mainspace once the issues have been addressed. You seem to be running into Wikipedia's copyright policy. All published works are granted copyright automatically and Wikipedia cannot accept them (we use free content only). There are two ways to avoid the copyright issue. The first is to re-write the content for Wikipedia. Superior Stone

What would you suggest I do to make a page about a local company more complete? I assume that is why the page was deleted.

Thanks!

SuperiorStone (talk) 16:19, 4 May 2009 (UTC)Brandon

The first thing to do is read our guide on companies. The next thing is to find coverage of the company in independent reliable sources. Finally, your username could be considered advertise-ish, but that's easy to fix - simply head over to the username change page. If you have questions or need more help, just drop me a line. TNXMan 16:28, 4 May 2009 (UTC)

Ok, where can I see the page I initially created? Is it totally gone? Also, the company is a small company, I looked through the local paper but didn't find any articles. They are members of local organizations like the chamber of commerce and BBB, would those citations help? SuperiorStone (talk) 16:43, 4 May 2009 (UTC)

After reading the notability guide it would seem that a company isn't "important" enough for wikipedia if they don't have outside citations (newspapers, etc). Is that correct? Thanks! SuperiorStone (talk) 16:47, 4 May 2009 (UTC)

Unfortunately, it appears so. Organizations/people/entities/etc. can only have articles if they have been covered in external sources. I can provide you with a copy of the article, but it didn't appear there was much to it. Let me say that just because your article was deleted doesn't mean you can't stick around! We're always looking for new contributors, so look around and see if there's anything you can improve! TNXMan 16:50, 4 May 2009 (UTC)

Second opinion

Hi, I wonder if I could get your opinion on criticism of EDO Corporation. Is having an article solely for the criticism of a company (in this case the EDO Corporation) in line with WP:NPOV? Is it a POV fork or merely a spinoff? How are you these days? — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 18:22, 4 May 2009 (UTC)

It looks to me like the article is a well-sourced POV fork. Per WP:POV fork, this isn't a bad thing in and of itself, but I still think the article has issues. There are no rebuttals of any of the claims and no neutral summary of the criticisms in the main article. If it isn't rewritten, it would need to be merged in to the main article.
I'm doing well. I'm planning my vacation for later this year and have narrowed down the destinations. Plus, summer is here, so I can get out and stretch my legs instead of being cooped up all day. TNXMan 19:44, 4 May 2009 (UTC)

Wedding Terminology Question

Greetings! New here so I've likely made a newbie mistake. This is in regard to Glossary of wedding terms

I was searching for ways to get my feet wet and make some contributions. Made a few small edits, fixed some broken links etc. Then thought I'd try my hand at creating a page that seemed under represented and I knew something about. Since there were similar pages on alternate topics it seemed like a natural fit.

Suppose I could accept deletion, but what gives the other similar pages staying power? Second, how could I edit the page so it could remain? Having other pages that are so similar (but on other topics) seems like an invitation and there didn't seem to be another page that I could contribute to that was along the same lines. In the process, I even came across pages that I think may be worth creating, hence why I linked all the terms.

Just trying to open a dialog and do things right the first time out of the gate. Thanks in advance for your time, explanation and forgive my newbieness:)

Jack's daddy (talk) 23:33, 2 May 2009 (UTC)

ps: it was this page that gave me the idea for the topic: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_glossaries

Jack's daddy (talk) 00:06, 3 May 2009 (UTC)

Well, first of all, welcome to Wikipedia! I agree there are many types of glossaries here, but I feel this one may be too broad in scope to manage and may quickly become a list of indiscriminate info. For example, what may a wedding term for some people may not be for others. Compare this list to Glossary of American football, where each of the terms relates specifically to the game. However, I'd be happy to work with you on it (as well as any other contributions you'd like to make), so drop me a line and we'll see what we can do. TNXMan 05:00, 3 May 2009 (UTC)
Thank you for the feedback! Now, next question, do you have any advice on how I might be able to salvage the work and integrate it into existing pages (assuming it isn't moved as some have suggested). When I created the glossary, I noticed that a number of the terms were not covered elsewhere so I thought the page would be useful as a compilation of wedding terms from around the world; I made a point to try to not make it too euro-centric. My research suggests that the the list of words could be expanded greatly and provide a jumping off point to other sections of Wikipedia. For instance, would someone know that "dulha" is the word for groom in Hindi without the glossary? Most glossaries I found are not mixed by religion or ethnicity so they exist in their own spheres without simple cross-referencing. After contemplating adding some content to Wikipedia over the years but scared off by the foreign coding, I've spent enough time to try to figure it out and feel comfortable moving forward with small projects as they emerge. Thanks again, I welcome your feedback!

Jack's daddy (talk) 02:55, 4 May 2009 (UTC)

Well, first let me say that if you have any questions about wiki-formatting, just drop me a line, and I'll be happy to help. As for the glossary, I think there's a better way. Remember, as an encyclopedia, it would be better to have articles about each of the terms, and then put the terms into a category so they would all be grouped together. So I think the best way to go would be to start writing articles about the wedding terms. This way you could do each of the terms justice instead of trying to sum them in up in a sentence or two. Finally, as for saving the material, you're free to copy and paste the page to a sandbox so nothing is lost. Best, TNXMan 03:32, 4 May 2009 (UTC)
Hopefully quick question if you don't mind regarding citations. Many of the terms used in weddings generally speaking are combinations of words. Based on my experience, the most credible sources for references are commercial because the terms fall outside the scope of what a non-profit or .edu type site would cover. This was an issue I initially considered but didn't find suitable alternate resources and those that came from religious sites tended to not be inclusive or objective enough. This is in response to the last comment on the discussion about the page I created. I wasn't sure if it was my place to bring this up there. Thanks for your thoughts! Jack's daddy (talk) 04:02, 5 May 2009 (UTC)
Actually, references do not have to be exclusively from non-profit (.org or .edu) sites. All Wikipedia asks is that the sources be reliable, which is covered on this page. If you have any reliable commercial sources, by all means, use them! TNXMan 11:50, 5 May 2009 (UTC)
Thanks a bunch! Jack's daddy (talk) 03:29, 6 May 2009 (UTC)

deletion of Bananagrams (social game)

hi Tnxman307. I've added a fairly detailed article of one of my favorite games on facebook, Bananagrams. Can you recommend changes to make it fit wikipedia? Saldb (talk) 15:56, 6 May 2009 (UTC)

Well, glancing at the article, it does not show why the game is notable. Also, it does not have any independent reliable sources. Adding those two components would go a long way to improving this article. TNXMan 16:00, 6 May 2009 (UTC)

thanks dude. will update and let you know! Saldb (talk) 16:02, 6 May 2009 (UTC) gave it another pass. added some citations from CNN, Kotaku and other reliables Saldb (talk) 16:51, 6 May 2009 (UTC)

It's starting to look better. A couple of things I want to point out, though. The first is that references should go to materials that support the info in the article, instead of pointing at links to play the game or add it as a app for Facebook. The other is a template that you can use to format web citations. Check out {{cite web}} (which goes between the <ref> and </ref>). TNXMan 17:15, 6 May 2009 (UTC)
sweet! i updated the citations with {{cite web}} and it definitely helps with the formatting. However, I don't know how i can describe a work of art without letting people try it out. I just made the links to the game external links. Is that better?? Saldb (talk) 18:58, 6 May 2009 (UTC)
I've updated the external link section. It's usually best just to have one link pointing to the official site and let the readers go from there. TNXMan 19:44, 6 May 2009 (UTC)

CRC article

Hi Tnxman307, I've been continuing to work on the article that we discussed yesterday regarding the "Communications Research Centre". I was just wondering under what conditions the banner at the top of the article stating that there are no sources could be removed. I've now cited all of the material that is currently a part of the article. Please let me know if I have done soemthing wrong. Thank you for your time Anandsrivastava2009 (talk) 18:40, 6 May 2009 (UTC)

I've removed the template, but I've replaced it with another. All the material is cited, but there are still no references to independent third-party reliable sources, which is one of the key components to an article. TNXMan 18:47, 6 May 2009 (UTC)

All left turns lead to denver

I don't understand what you mean by they don't hold significance. They were a popular band where I'm from and they made alot of people change thier music prefernce. I live in a rural area and most people here listen to country and All Left Turns Lead To Denver made alt rock and ska popular amoung the "redneck" population. This holds significance with thier followers. ALTLTD (talk) 14:28, 7 May 2009 (UTC)

The article didn't show why the band was notable. I would encourage you to read our guide to writing your first article and work on the article in a sandbox in your userspace before moving the page to the main article space. TNXMan 14:47, 7 May 2009 (UTC)

The band never put out any real albums, but did have copies of thier music on CDs the band sold. And they never reached fame beyond a local following. Is this notable or not? —Preceding unsigned comment added by ALTLTD (talkcontribs) 18:27, 7 May 2009 (UTC)

Unfortunately, according to the relevant guide, it does not appear so. Did they receive any significant coverage in reliable sources? TNXMan 18:33, 7 May 2009 (UTC)

Another quick question

Hi Tnxman307, sorry if I'm bothering you, I just keep coming back to you because you're familiar with the article I am working on. As I did not originally create the article, there are a couple of mistakes with the title that I was wondering how I could fix.

  • Firstly, the title should read "Communications Research Centre Canada (CRC)"
  • Secondly, when you search "CRC" in the search bar and are given the list of things it may refer to, the small description after the entry I am working on should read "an agency of Industry Canada" (the "Department of Industry" does not exist)

Do you know how I could fix these mistakes? Thanks again for your time, Anandsrivastava2009 (talk) 13:40, 8 May 2009 (UTC)

Well, the article's title should be as simple as possible, so Communications Research Centre would probably work best. However, you can create redirects from other possible titles to the main article. I've fixed the CRC article to reflect the proper title. TNXMan 14:30, 8 May 2009 (UTC)
For sure, I totally understand about simplicity, however, whoever initially made the article misrepresented the title, as the given name is actually the one above, http://crc.ca/en/html/crc/home/home. Any way that the opposite could be done? Redirecting "Communications Research Centre" to "Communications Research Centre Canada (CRC)" ? Thanks for the other edit as well, greatly appreciated.
Anandsrivastava2009 (talk) 14:45, 8 May 2009 (UTC)
Hmm, that seems a little confusing. Why is the acronym included with the title? I think it's better if it's referred to as one or the other (but not both). TNXMan 14:52, 8 May 2009 (UTC)
Fair enough, i think the acronym in the title is a little redundant. Is "Communications Research Centre Canada" alright? Anandsrivastava2009 (talk) 14:56, 8 May 2009 (UTC)
Sounds good. You should be able to move the page yourself. TNXMan 15:12, 8 May 2009 (UTC)

The report is blatant

The report does go against the username policy because the username is RASAVADA and the only edits from this user was to advertise a site called Rasavada on their user page. Iowateen (talk) 02:54, 10 May 2009 (UTC)

Whenever I review reports at UAA, I try to look at the names in a vacuum. If I hadn't seen the user's contributions, I don't think I would have connected "Rasavada" with a company name. However, since there does seem to be a problem (but it's not a blatant violation), I would encourage you to bring up the issue at the conflict of interest noticeboard or the request for comment (username) page. If you have futher questions, just let me know. TNXMan 02:56, 10 May 2009 (UTC)
I highly disagree that isn't a blatant violation from past experience of UFA with an account that I don't use anymore. Whenever I made reports like that, the editor always got blocked. Iowateen (talk) 02:58, 10 May 2009 (UTC)

It looks like a good edit. Remember, though, that users can remove warnings from their talk page which implies that they have read the messages and have discarded them. However, when they replace the content with "penis" repeated ad nauseum, it's fine to revert it. TNXMan 11:50, 11 May 2009 (UTC)

Why did you delete EduMation

I started an article about EduMation a few hours ago and I found out later that it was deleted by you.

Why? I didn't finish the article nor did I modify to fit Wikipedia's standards —Preceding unsigned comment added by 88.201.1.30 (talk) 14:37, 11 May 2009 (UTC)

The article was deleted because it did not indicate why it was notable. I would encourage you to read our info on what makes a website notable, our guide to writing your first article, and our info on how to reliably source articles. After you've read those, you can work on the article in a sandbox in your userspace. That way you can improve it before moving it to the mainspace. TNXMan 14:46, 11 May 2009 (UTC)

Social Mobile Marketing

Can you tell me what to do so that my page "Social Mobile Marketing" is not deleted?

Thanks, Katherine Alison York (talk) 17:21, 11 May 2009 (UTC)Katherine Alison York

There are a few things you can do. I would suggest reading our guide to writing your first article and our info on how to support articles with reliable sources. Your article reads very much like an essay instead of an encyclopedia article. If you have questions, let me know. TNXMan 17:39, 11 May 2009 (UTC)

You deleted my page

Why did you delete my page "Brady Granstaff"? There is no reason for that and i read the policies. It is a page about someone who is on a radio show frequently and lots of people know who he is... Don't just delete pages about people because you have not heard of them. There is plenty of people on wikipedia people have not heard of. Sorry if I am not good at writing articles but I might need help with that page.

About Health Pages

Sofrosiune (talk) 11:59, 12 May 2009 (UTC)
Dear Tnxman307,
After your suggestions, I changed my username (healthpages) and now I can edit an article.
About my first article I would be grateful, if you could help me.
My article concern a Health Search Engine like Healia, SearchMedica, TRIP Database, WebMD, etc..
I used a style, contents and a language similar to above-mentioned articles.
Please, can you give me good tips to improve this article?
Thanks!
Sofrosiune

Just as a note, I've removed the article, but I did look it over. It's a decent start, but you need two things. The first thing you need to do is show why the company is notable. Our guideline on corporate notability is the most applicable one. Secondly, you'll need to cite independent reliable sources to support the info in the article. I would suggest working on the article in a sandbox (you can use User:Sofrosiune/Sandbox, for example). That way you can make improvements without worrying about deletion. Hi, this user is requesting unblock, and I personally have some doubts on the fact that he is Bambifan. Can you please have a look? (By the way, I don't recall Bambifan abusing his talk page, why did you block email and talk page editing? I'm amazed he found a way to contact us!) -- Luk talk 14:32, 13 May 2009 (UTC)

I have unblocked the user and undone the autoblock. It was a piss-poor block on my part and I have apologized to the user. TNXMan 14:48, 13 May 2009 (UTC)
And it was a piss-poor report on my part. I only recently began to follow The Rescuers, and the revived attention to the article attracted the Disney Vandal. The editor's previous contributions seemed to show that it was an old sock that the DV revived to continue evading the indefinite ban. —Erik (talkcontrib) 21:44, 13 May 2009 (UTC)

Article submission

Hi Tnxman307,

Sorry about the article I've uploaded about F1stNews. You eliminated it according to "A7: No indication that the article may meet guidelines for inclusion: G11: Unambiguous advertising or promotion" but that was not my intention. F1stnews its a project in the very beginning, besides the bases that I wrote in the article (that already are implemented) I want it also to be a kind of social networking for F1 fans. So I checked the contents of for example: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Facebook, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hi5_(website) and I thought I could do the same.

Anyway I investigate a bit more and if I'm not able to create this article in wikipedia, can I do it on wikinews? Then when I have all the project finished maybe finally I can wrote the article here in wikipedia, no?

PS - Can I have access to what I wrote? I forgot to make a backup in my pc :(

Thanks a lot and sorry for my misunderstood Diogo Rodrigues —Preceding unsigned comment added by Thyogo (talkcontribs) 08:19, 14 May 2009 (UTC)

In order for F1stNews to have an article on Wikipedia, it must demonstrate why it is notable and must also be supported by reliable sources. Deletion of Strategy Companion

Dear Tnxman307, I already removed all improper commercial pictures and followed the writing styles like all other articles under the Business intelligence tools, please help me to understand the reason of the deletion, thank you very much.

The article was deleted because it appeared to be advertising. I would encourage you to read our info on writing your first article, how to write from a neutral point of view, and our business FAQ. TNXMan 14:34, 18 May 2009 (UTC)

Hi Tnxman307, thanks for your guidance. I'll try to rewrite it again, and if you feel it's still improper, is it possible to let me know before you delete it, thank you very much. Analyzer2004 (talk) 14:38, 18 May 2009 (UTC)

Hi Tnxman307, how about this? [3] Analyzer2004 (talk) 14:42, 18 May 2009 (UTC)

It still appears to be very promotional. You'll need to remove the peacock terms and provide independent reliable sources. TNXMan 14:49, 18 May 2009 (UTC)

Dear Tnxman307,User:Analyzer2004/Sandbox, please review and advise, thanks for your time. Analyzer2004 (talk) 15:16, 18 May 2009 (UTC)

It looks much better now, however, there is one last thing the article needs: independent reliable sources. The sources listed are two research papers sponsored by the company, so those cannot be considered independent. Are there are third-party reviews of the software or articles of that nature? TNXMan 15:27, 18 May 2009 (UTC)

Dear Tnxman307, thanks for your advice. Is there anything I have to do to publish this article? Analyzer2004 (talk) 15:33, 18 May 2009 (UTC)

Like I mentioned above, you'll need to include reliable sources in the article, otherwise, it runs the risk of being proposed for deletion. In order to publish the article, you'll need to move the page to the mainspace. TNXMan 15:38, 18 May 2009 (UTC)

Dear Tnxman307, I removed those two sources and will find other independent sources. BTW, I added some descriptions back to the article without those peacock termsUser:Analyzer2004/Sandbox, can you review it again? Thanks again. Analyzer2004 (talk) 15:43, 18 May 2009 (UTC)

It looks much better. Once you add the independent sources, you should be ready to go. TNXMan 15:58, 18 May 2009 (UTC)

Thank you very much, Tnxman307. Analyzer2004 (talk) 16:11, 18 May 2009 (UTC)

Sorry to bother you again. I just posted the article Strategy Companion and got anther warning CSD A7, I already provided some independent sources for references. Is there still anything I did wrong? Thanks. Analyzer2004 (talk) 16:23, 18 May 2009 (UTC)

It doesn't appear so. I've declined the speedy deletion, as it appears that you did list some independent coverage. However, there is still a chance that the article may be taken to the articles for deletion page. TNXMan 16:42, 18 May 2009 (UTC)

Thank you Tnxman307, I'll keep all you advices in my mind and write better articles in the future, thanks again. Analyzer2004 (talk) 16:50, 18 May 2009 (UTC)

Tnx, those "independent sources" consisted of press releases and two "studies" sponsored by Strategy Companion! Once you delete those, there's not much left to even assert, much less verify, notability. --Orange Mike | Talk 19:02, 18 May 2009 (UTC)

I agree the coverage was/is thin, but this looked like it contained some good info, as did this. The "studies" were of something of which I was aware and mentioned to the author earlier. I really didn't think the article was ready for the mainspace, but do think there is enough to avoid a speedy deletion. However OM, I respect your opinion and if you feel it should be deleted, I would understand where you're coming from. TNXMan 19:20, 18 May 2009 (UTC)

5a Phtyo -Technology

Dear Sir,

I am writing to ask why my page regarding 5a Phyto-Technology was deleted? This is a patented technology and I believe its definition is encyclopedic.

I am simply asking for a reason concerning the deletion. I did not find the page to be unambiguous advertising or promotion.

How can Porsche, Ferrari or Rolex maintain a page but I cannot define a patented technology that does not reference its maker or products that may use the technolgy?

Thank you for your time and I look forward to your response.

Regards, Peter--Ctrlclrskn (talk) 19:35, 18 May 2009 (UTC)

The article was deleted because it appeared to be advertising. The article started by describing acne (its formation, appearance, etc.) in some detail. However, the part of article that talked about the subject (5a Phyto-Technology), was mostly marketing speak and peacock terms. I would encourage you to read our info on writing neutrally and our info notability. TNXMan 19:44, 18 May 2009 (UTC)

new user -- many questions

Hi -- I am a new user and really have no idea what I am doing. I created a page -- and hit -- save; of course I thought I was saving as a draft, but I don't know where it is now and it is not ready to be live. It is just a biography of somebody, but it needs work. So here are my questions: 1. where can I put this article so that it is in a draft place where I can work on it over the new few days before it gets made live; 2. when it is time to go live, is there a special "live" button I hit or does it get there automatically (although i think in my subsequent reading I have determined that the Wiki editors review everything before it goes live and it takes four days -- is that right) 3. in the heading of the person on my draft it said my username then slash the name of the person I am writing about -- is that how it will appear when its live (because I don't want it to look like that.) thanks so much -- I promise to read all the information more carefully rather than just plowing ahead, which is what I did.Executive Counsel (talk) 18:32, 19 May 2009 (UTC)

Deletion of Revenue Operations Center and Operations Optimization pages

Dear Tnxman,

Checked out your reasons for deleting these pages.

While I agree with notability guidelines ... what would you do in case you are planning to define something for the first time and hopefully take it to wider acceptance in the near term. In that case you will not find too much of a discussion going on currently about that topic. So currently the topic may not satisfy notability guidelines. But there is a very good chance that these topics might become very well accepted in near time.

What does a person do in such a case? Can he still not post those topics on Wikipedia?

—Preceding unsigned comment added by Rickyrawal (talkcontribs) 08:49, 21 May 2009 (UTC)

Unfortunately, no. It sounds like you are asking about neologisms, which Wikipedia does not accept. In order for a subject to have an article, it must be covered in independent, third-party reliable sources. The best idea is to wait until the term has received such coverage and then attempt to write an article. You may also want to read our info on writing your first article and how to write from a neutral point of view. TNXMan 11:50, 21 May 2009 (UTC)

Greetings. Sorry, I missed a message because I have been doing research on articles for this site, answering questions on WikiAnswers, writing articles on WikiSpecies but mostly busy with my girlfriend. I am still writing articles on Aust snakes but this page doesn't look too good to me Euc (talk) 16:56, 20 May 2009 (UTC)

It doesn't look too great, but the best thing you can do is add reliable sources. If you have those, you may be able to post to the reptile wikiproject to see if someone can help you fix up the article some. TNXMan 11:53, 21 May 2009 (UTC)

There are no reliable sources. Those I have, indicate the article is almost a complete guess. My sources, on my user page and on the discussion page of the articles, indicate an entirely different sequence but I have no data on many of the reptiles he mentions. I'll check out the reptile community as you suggest. Thanks Euc (talk) 21:53, 21 May 2009 (UTC)

Good luck, and if there's anything else with which I can help, let me know. TNXMan 13:57, 22 May 2009 (UTC)

Decadent Dog Page Deletion

Hi,

Although I'm new to Wikipedia it appears as though the page for DECADENT DOG was deleted because there is no evidence that this is a "notable company". I am the founder/president and just won a major international award for our industry which, in my opinion and that of many others, suggests serious notoriety.

Is there something I am not understanding that you would be willing to explain this to me? Thanks, in advance for your help.

Topdog66 (talk) 01:03, 24 May 2009 (UTC)

The award you mention may help establish notability for Rob Nager, but unfortunately, notability cannot be inherited or passed along to other subjects. Speedy deletion of Carnalpedia

I must disagree with the deletion of the recently-created Carnalpedia article. In fact, as part of my patrolling, I was in the process of declining the speedy when it was deleted since its importance and significance were asserted in the first sentence by stating that it is "the largest sex encyclopedia on the Internet". Though it is lacking in independent sources and references, Wiki policy would indicate that this should be taken to PROD or AFD to delete it. Per WP:NOTCENSORED, we should also be careful about deleting these kinds of articles. Would you please reconsidered your speedy deletion? Thanks. Truthanado (talk) 15:39, 25 May 2009 (UTC)

I've restored the page and it can be found at Carnalpedia. I've added a hangon tag for you as well. Let me know if there's anything else I can do. TNXMan 16:24, 25 May 2009 (UTC)
Many thanks. I removed the hangon tag, which is justified because I didn't create it. The article has been tagged as needing more references, and has also been cleaned up per WP:MOS. Truthanado (talk) 00:48, 26 May 2009 (UTC)

Deletion of Sescoi page

Hello Tnxman307,

I saw you deleted the page I created, on Sescoi. I know the rules may not be the same, but we have the same exact page, on Wiki France, and it seems to be no problem. Also, I think it is good with redactionnal rules. And we already have the "Sescoi" name appearing in 2 pages: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Computer-aided_manufacturing http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_CAx_companies

Could you maybe please be more explicit on what is wrong, to help me improve it ?

You've deleted the article on Transtek, which is the firt software company on its kind in Syria. There it's considered as the leader of the ICT sector, toghether with GSM & ISP providers. I know the article need citations. However, I think it's very wrong to delete the article due to lack of notability. I never thought that Wikipedia houses only articles about subjects notable in the West. If you google Transtek in Arabic, you will find enough resources about the company to change your mind.

It's really frustrating that you have decided to delete the page.

Best regards,

Nora Abazed —Preceding unsigned comment added by Nora abazed (talkcontribs) 06:32, 25 May 2009 (UTC)

The page needs indicate why the subject is notable and support the claims of notability with independent, third-party reliable sources. I would encourage you to read the info on our business FAQ and writing from a neutral point of view. TNXMan 15:57, 25 May 2009 (UTC)
Thank you again for your help. I wanted to ask if it'd be possible to put it back and give me a chance to address the concerns you had. Transtek definitely falls within the notability guidlines of Wikipedia, being the largest software firm and a leader of ICT change in Syria. Is it possible to put it back with a PROD tag instead, or with the appropriate tags, giving me time to address the problems in the article? Have a nice evening. Nora abazed (talk) 14:48, 27 May 2009 (UTC)
I've userfy-ed the content for you, so you can work on the page in your userspace. You can find the info at User:Nora abazed/Transtek. This way you can improve the info before putting it in the mainspace. TNXMan 14:55, 27 May 2009 (UTC)
Thank you very much. I worked on it, and added a request-edit tag due to conflict of interest. User:Nora abazed/Transtek Please check it and let me know if it's publishable now. I'll continue working on it, and will invite other editors too. However, the subject is very notable, and the article is important especially that Syria content on Wikipedia is very small. Thank you again.Nora abazed (talk) 15:52, 27 May 2009 (UTC)
I've moved the page to the main space, as it does show some notability. However, don't let that stop you from continuing to improve the page! You may also want to check out {{cite web}} as a way to format your web references. Good luck. TNXMan 15:57, 27 May 2009 (UTC)

Hey Tnxman307, would you restore the Transtek talk page to the mainspace, too, please? It contains history pertinent to a COI issue under discussion at WP:COIN. Thank you. Jim Ward (talk·stalk) 16:14, 27 May 2009 (UTC)

Thank you for the reminder. The talk page has been restored. TNXMan 16:15, 27 May 2009 (UTC)

WP:U policy discussion

Hi, there's a discussion over at Wikipedia_talk:Username_policy#Proposed_addition that I'd appreciate your input on, since it seems you have an interest in this area of policy. Gigs (talk) 03:46, 27 May 2009 (UTC)

I've responded there. Thank you for the heads up. TNXMan 13:50, 27 May 2009 (UTC)

Kosovo

  • Having some problems on the Kosovo page.

I have used these sources to improve the economy and mining sections of the Kosovo Page:

https://www.cia.gov/library/publications/the-world-factbook/print/kv.html http://www.kosovo-mining.org/kosovoweb/en/home.html

Yet my edits are reversed? What do I do about this, because I am frequently accused (mainly by Serbs) of trying to propogate POV I would appreciate your response. Interestedinfairness (talk) 00:00, 28 May 2009 (UTC)

Looking at the edit history for the article, it does not appear that anyone has reverted those changes yet. It also looks like you have provided notice for your edits on the talk page. I can't guarantee what will happen next, but those are good steps in getting edits to stick. Also, remember that it is very hard to dispute well-sourced facts. If you stick to those and try work with all editors, regardless of nationality, you should be OK. TNXMan 00:39, 28 May 2009 (UTC)

The source I have used is from the official independent organization concerned with mining in Kosovo phttp://www.kosovo-mining.org/kosovoweb/en/home.html here] The entire mining section has been removed by ThuranX apparently because it is plagiarized? Before I came on wikipedia a lot of sources and cites were missing, I have so far added loads of cites for the numerous claims on the Kosovo page but my work is being hampered by constant edit reverts and accusations of bias. I just thought you should be made aware of this. Interestedinfairness (talk) 13:02, 28 May 2009 (UTC)

Well, remember that citing sources is OK, but you can't copy and paste from the website to the article. Have you tried rewriting the info in your own words or even asking ThuranX to help you rewrite the info? TNXMan 13:06, 28 May 2009 (UTC)

Quick question

I noticed that you deleted my page. I'm not going to ask why since i assume it violated wiki rules (i'm not sure how). However, I do notice your double standards though. How come you don't moderate pages like http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Banana_Scrum or http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Agilo_for_Scrum. They have the exact same kind of content as the page I made yet mine gets deleted and their's don't.

Scrumedge (talk) 13:27, 28 May 2009 (UTC)

Your article was deleted because it did not indicate why the website is notable. I encourage you to read our info on writing your first article, writing neutrally, and how to support your article with reliable sources. While the content of one article has no bearing on other articles, I have proposed the other two articles you mentioned for deletion. TNXMan 13:34, 28 May 2009 (UTC)

Please review revised "Still Water" page

Hi Tnxman,

Per your helpful suggestions, I have revised the originally deleted page on the University of Maine's Still Water lab, primarily to cut out advertising-like language and add external references to show notability.

Would you please review the new version and let me know if you feel it is ready for reinstatement?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Jon_Ippolito/Sandbox

I'm happy to clarify any additional issues or make further changes you might recommend. As always, thanks for your feedback!

Jon Ippolito (talk) 23:35, 16 May 2009 (UTC)

It looks like you are off to a good start. There are two things that will help. The most important one is independent third-party coverage of the subject in reliable sources. The info in the "Selected Press" is a start, but some of the sources listed don't mention Still Water at all (rather, it seems to mention related projects?). Secondly, you may want to check out the {{cite web}} template. It goes between the <ref> and </ref> tags and will give the article a cleaner look. Let me know if you have further questions. Best, TNXMan 00:18, 17 May 2009 (UTC)
Thanks for the recommended citation method; I have incorporated this into the Selected press section of the Still Water page in my sandbox]. Placing them between nowiki ref tags seemed to screw up the formatting, so I simply used the syntax described at the link you posted above. Regarding the third-party coverage: all of the links mentioned refer to Still Water projects, even if not all of them mention Still Water by name. I chose those particular links because they seemed like high-profile sources that would convey notability (Wired, Harvard, etc.). I tried to list some of these prominent projects in the Wikipedia page itself. Should I have associated the links more directly with the projects? In case they would be useful, I added some additional external references to the sandbox in a section entitled "Potential additional press"; while I view these as less prominent citations, they do mention Still Water by name. Please let me know if including some of these would help address your notability concerns. Thanks again for your help!

Transtek 2

Hi, could I draw your attention to a conflict of interest discussion with regards to this article that you undeleted? Cheers Smartse (talk) 17:02, 27 May 2009 (UTC)

Also DYK that there are two big stop signs at the top of this page when you edit it? Smartse (talk) 17:03, 27 May 2009 (UTC)
Two? I see the graphic and the word "stop", unless I am missing something? Also, thank you for the heads up. I will review the info. I do feel, however, that the article makes enough of a claim of notability to avoid speedy deletion, although I don't know how an AfD would go. TNXMan 17:13, 27 May 2009 (UTC)
Of the 5 references in the article that claim to support notability, 1 is published by the subject company, 1 by a magazine owned by the company president, 1 is a video-blog interview with said president, 1 is in Arabic and 1 is tangential and non sequitur to the article. There may, in fact, be sufficient notability to warrant Transtek's inclusion, but the conflicted editor – who's vividly on a mission to promote interests related to Transtek's president – hasn't yet established it. Regards, Jim Ward (talk·stalk) 17:49, 27 May 2009 (UTC)
I agree that the article does need a lot of work. If you were to nominate the article for AfD, I would understand your reasons. I wonder though, if we would be able to separate out the COI material and get a serviceable article going? TNXMan 18:50, 27 May 2009 (UTC)
Thanks for looking at this. I've searched online and have failed to find independent sources that support notability or even fundamental claims made by the present article. While plenty of promotional material is available on the Transtek website, in interviews with the president, in a magazine article published by the president's media company, none of it passes muster with WP:V and related policies/guidelines. This applies broadly, btw, to Transtek as well as its Compass ERP product and Haykal's Forward Magazine. If the present article was stripped of its claims that are unsupported by WP:RS, there'd be little of substance remaining. AfD remains a possibility, and I'd probably support an AfD effort given the current state of this material. Altogether, though, I'd prefer to see the COI issue resolved before anything else gets deleted.
Tangentially, I'd think it helpful if the primary contributor to these articles were to contribute to the relevant discussion on the talk pages and at WP:COIN, but that individual has a history of deleting article tags and blanking talk page content rather than making a good faith effort to discuss the issues they represent. Perhaps you'd consider using your good offices to encourage such participation. Thanks, Jim Ward (talk·stalk) 20:33, 27 May 2009 (UTC)
I have left the user a note on their talk page. I also noticed a unsettling disclosure that editor either currently uses or previously used other accounts to edit Wikipedia. It may warrant watching. TNXMan 00:33, 28 May 2009 (UTC)
Thank you for doing that. As for multiple accounts: if you look at the accounts mentioned in the COIN discussion (here) you'll observe common account creation dates (±1 day) and common editing behavior. Jim Ward (talk·stalk) 01:28, 28 May 2009 (UTC)
Good I found this thread. I want first of all to confirm that there is no relation between me and the other editors mentioned. Second, the mistakes I did were in good faith. Third, I'm really confused about the conflict of interest part. I have no business with the subject of articles whatsoever. Fourth, Mr. Jim Ward said repeateddly on my talk apge that he is convinced of the notability of the articles, but his main concern was COI. He is contradicting himself when he stated otherwise above. Fifth, in Forward Magazine, I never edited the article but added a request for editing for COI, becasue it had the banner that there is COI. So why is it mentioned by Mr Ward? I think it meets notability anyway. Finally, please let me know what you want me to do, or if you want me to stop editing altogehter. I'm totally frustrated with the situation.Nora abazed (talk) 17:19, 29 May 2009 (UTC)

Vibe.to

I was directed by the wiki user of the list of social networks to creat an article in order to get inclusion of vibe.to into that list. Vibe.to is the largest Social Network dedicated to the GTA. In case you are not aware, the GTA was only recently passed by London as the most users in a network anywhere around the world. So Vibe.to represents a leadership in local social networks. Vibe.to is also the largest social network in Canada with over 150,000 users. It's founder, is a Internet Pioneere. The same founder as Mamma.com.

On the original list of social networks, there are far far less notable networks listed. So why delete this article on the basis of prominence or importance? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Fadormtl (talkcontribs) 18:20, 29 May 2009 (UTC)

The page was deleted because it didn't show why the website was notable. If you have independent reliable sources for the info you just listed, the article would stand a better chance of being kept. I would encourage you to work on the article in a sandbox in your userspace and read our info on writing your first article. TNXMan 18:28, 29 May 2009 (UTC)

Louisiananetwork

I have unblocked Louisiananetwork (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log) so he can change his user name. I have also directed him to Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for guidance regarding editing. I will be monitoring his account, as I do all accounts which I unblock or create. Fred Talk 02:44, 30 May 2009 (UTC)

That's fine (and thank you for the heads up). I had an email from the user and got pulled away by some RL stuff. If there's anything with which I can help, please let me know. TNXMan 05:32, 30 May 2009 (UTC)

vibe.to

The original article submitted had 3 references. Also please not that I was ASKED to write this article for inclusion in the list of social networks. So I am in a catch 22 spinning around. At some point, there must have another guideline because less "notable" social media sites are listed. What do you advise I do to get out of the vicious circle? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Fadormtl (talkcontribs) 03:50, 30 May 2009 (UTC)

Like I mentioned earlier, the best thing to do is to read about what makes a website notable (this is different from the dictionary definition of notability). Also, I recommend reading our info on reliable sources. The sources must provide in-depth, independent coverage of the subject. Finally, whether or not other websites have articles or not does not have a bearing on your article. Each article is judged independently. TNXMan 05:39, 30 May 2009 (UTC)

Sioux Link

Hey, why do you keep removing my link on the Wiki Sioux page? Doesn't make sense. It's a link to a Sioux website about the Lakota Sioux culture, heritage and language. A good resource. Explain please. Tnwcreations (talk) 19:59, 30 May 2009 (UTC)

I've removed the link because it does not seem to fit with Wikipedia's external links. If you could look that over, then we can discuss a good next step. Best, TNXMan 01:37, 31 May 2009 (UTC)

Jean Piveteau

Thank you for creating the Jean Piveteau article for me. He is a VIPaleontologist, and it was disappointing to see his name redlinked when fixing the article Piveteauia, a species of extinct lobe-finned fish named after him. I thought the French wiki would have an article I could quickly translate, but they did not. Other paleontologists on wikipedia will add more information about him. --69.226.103.13 (talk) 23:55, 30 May 2009 (UTC)

Would you also create the redirect from the surname? Piveteau I should have asked at the same time. Thank you. --69.226.103.13 (talk) 23:58, 30 May 2009 (UTC)

The redirect has been created. And by the way, thank you for the contribution. Incidentally, have you thought about creating an account? It lets you have a watchlist where you can track articles in which you have an interest, among other benefits. TNXMan 01:27, 31 May 2009 (UTC)
Thanks--I'll ask for the redirects at the same time next time. I'm okay with some dive-bomb editing every now and then, though. --69.226.103.13 (talk) 02:07, 31 May 2009 (UTC)

In need of your mentorship

Hi,

I need help from an experienced Wikipedian, and I saw your name over at WP:ADOPT.

I need your advice concerning a WikiProject I've been coordinating. Here's the situation:

The project is WP:WPOOK. The set of pages the project concerns is listed at Portal:Contents/Outline of knowledge and Wikipedia:WikiProject Outline of knowledge#Projected outline, and has grown to about 500 articles in the encyclopedia. I also run a team of 5 advanced wiki-editors - the team communicates via user talk page posts. We use a variety of tools such as AWB, bots, Linky, etc. to execute tasks on batches of hundreds of pages at a time. Three of the team's members are admins, and 2 of the members have bot accounts. The team works on tasks that I assign, on the OOK and also on problems that the OOK has revealed in the encyclopedia-at-large (reverse outlines are good at that) - we've worked on things as diverse as creating country demonym disambiguation pages, to cleaning up the CIA World Factbook data on country "Demographics of" pages, to renaming "Cuisine of" articles to their demonymic form, to organizing the "Index of x articles" pages, etc. I also send out a newsletter or project update to the team, to the WikiProject members, and to anybody else who has been involved or who has expressed interest (20 to 30 Wikipedians).

So you see, we can implement just about any strategy. But we need more strategies. Your ideas on the following would be greatly appreciated...

The goals of the WikiProject are:

  1. Increase awareness of readers of the existence of the outlines on Wikipedia
  2. Complete the existing outlines
  3. Create an outline for every subject that is exensive enough to benefit from having an outline (core subjects and major or extensive fields). There are thousands of these.
  4. Recruit as many editors to work on these as possible (we need thousands of editors working on these)
  5. Surpass portals in number by the end of the summer, and leave them in the dust by the end of the year
  6. Get the major outline subject areas displayed on the Main Page (in place of or in addition to the portal links at the top of the page)
  7. Increase the OOK to higher quality than Britannica's Outline of Knowledge (published in its Propaedia volume).

We've posted over a thousand banners and notices so far, which resulted in just a couple complaints - one complainer posted at WT:WPOOK & WP:AN & WP:VPP and the other posted at WP:VPR. Not a bad negative feedback level for such a large posting. The complaints went nowhere, as several users came forward in defense of outlines.

I've proposed a 200-Wikiproject contest at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Countries, and I had notices posted on the talk pages of all the corresponding country WikiProjects' talk pages.

I've created some pointers for developing outlines to guide editors through the process of building outline pages, because once many editors are attracted, I won't be able to instruct them one-on-one. I've also been working on a new article for the subject, since the current article is very lacking.

I was hoping you could comment on how to achieve the goals above.

Also I'm interested in every possible way of reaching readers and editors of Wikipedia. How can I get the most eyes and typing fingers on Wikipedia's outlines? Contacting editors directly without a reason relevant to them is spam, which I'd like to avoid. There are 75,000 regular editors on Wikipedia, and I want to contact all of them. So how do I do it? Directly or indirectly, I don't care which, piecemeal or all-at-once, all methods are fine with me. But I've got to find ways. I need your help.

I would also like to know how to find or attract editors to create new outlines. And I need advice on finding editors to help write the new outline article mentioned above (it needs to be fleshed out, completely referenced, and brought to featured article status).

Can you recommend anyone in particular who might be interested in sinking their teeth into a project like this? Or ways to reach groups of editors? Or ways to reach all editors? I welcome any and all advice you might have.

I look forward to your reply on my talk page.

Kosovo

Hey, I've edited the structure of the Kosovo article fully (as of 10:16, 1 June 2009) to try and mirror [this] as much as possible, since it's a 'stared article'. Yet I've had to do it twice now since it was edited again by some one else (even though I informed on the talk page about the change). I was wondering whether you think about the Kosovo article mirroring the structure of the Japan one? Interestedinfairness (talk) 10:21, 1 June 2009 (UTC)

biography Daniel masson permission

Hello, i spent 2 hours to include a biography of an artist Daniel Masson in Wiki, i'm the author of this Biograpahy, and the artist manager of Daniel Masson. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daniel_masson. the system said i have no permission to use this content on this page http://danielmasson.net/biography/page0.html i contacted WIki staff by Email (Antti Aaltonen), i did not understand what he requires. he said : i must provide them with a clear statement that the copyright holder is releasing this content for redistribution under an allowable license, then the content may be used on Wikimedia projects. what kind of statement ?, what this statement should look like ?. If the copyright holder contact them directly it will be a enough proof of licence, how can i go through all this ???

Imed Khelifi, Artist manager of Daniel Masson —Preceding unsigned comment added by Truthba7ith (talkcontribs) 18:39, 1 June 2009 (UTC)

The easiest way to do this is to post on the website in question that the content has released under a GDFL-compatible license. See this page for more info on how to do that. However, please read our info on advertising and why it is not allowed on Wikipedia. TNXMan 19:05, 1 June 2009 (UTC)

Questions

Hi,

I just tried to create a page for musical group Si*Sé's 2nd album and you deleted it. I read the reason why but am still confused. A page for my first album has been up and safe here on Wikipedia for years. How do I properly create a page for the 2nd album?

Also, I would like to add an image to artist's page.

First album: Si*Sé

Thank you, Carol

Deletion of Global Goods Partners?

Good morning,

I read your reasoning for why you deleted my page, and I remain unconvinced. Can you please explain why you thought it "unambiguous advertising"? Thanks very much.

Blueasteroid777 (talk) 17:25, 2 June 2009 (UTC)

It appeared to be advertising because of the abundance of peacock terms and lack of reliable sources. I would encourage you to read our info on writing your first article, writing from a neutral point of view, and how to support your article with reliable sources. TNXMan 18:04, 2 June 2009 (UTC)

I've edited the page in response to your helpful suggestions, and, if it's okay, will post it again before the end of the afternoon. If the page still seems unsatisfactory, could you possible comment on it before deleting it entirely? Thanks. Blueasteroid777 (talk) 18:59, 2 June 2009 (UTC)

Before you do that, please consider posting the article to a sandbox first, where you can work on improving it before posting it to the mainspace. You can use a sandbox like this -> User:Blueasteroid777/Sandbox. If you post it to the mainspace right away, it still may be deleted by another admin. TNXMan 18:59, 2 June 2009 (UTC)

I posted it to the Sandbox as you asked. Please let me know what needs to be changed so I can move it to the mainspace. Thanks. Blueasteroid777 (talk) 19:04, 2 June 2009 (UTC)

The article still looks like it needs some work. The best thing you can do is to list independent reliable sources that show why the company is notable (and remember, notability is the criteria for deciding whether or not articles can be kept). The sources must cover the company in detail (not passing mentions).

I feel like I have posted reliable sources. However, since we seem to disagree on this point, I want to know your thoughts on posting a stub. I think we can both agree that I can adequately cite the information necessary for a stub, and if someone else feels that the organization is indeed notable (as I do), then they can expand the stub. Blueasteroid777 (talk) 19:27, 2 June 2009 (UTC)

That seems like a good compromise. Let me know if you have questions on getting the stub going. TNXMan 19:46, 2 June 2009 (UTC)

Lockwood Analytical Method for Prediction (LAMP)

Could you explain why you deleted this page, calling it advertising? LAMP is an academic approach to predictive analysis being taught by American Public University and there is no product to be "bought." As an APU student, I was trying to share information with fellow students who are involved in analytical work, and I don't think you should delete any submissions without first addressing any issues you may have with the submitter.

Majormadmax (talk) 18:32, 2 June 2009 (UTC)

The page was deleted because it was promoting a subject/idea. However, since the article has been reposted, it is now the subject of a deletion discussion at WP:Articles for deletion/Lockwood Analytical Method for Prediction. TNXMan 18:46, 2 June 2009 (UTC)

Submission for Darell "Fishgrease" Murray

Hi,

We are new to posting to Wikipedia, and I thought I understood the basics. I posted a listing for Darell "Fishgrease" Murray. He is the brother of Keith Murray (American-Rapper). This was my significance in the posting.

He is an up and coming music artist and I believe it should be in Wikipedia.

Can you help me to re-list it?

We can be reached via e-mail at <blanked>

Before you think about trying to relist the page, you should take a look the requirements for a biographical article in general and a musician's article in particular. You may also want to read our tips on writing your first article. After that, you could work on the article in a sandbox where you can work on improving the article before moving it to the mainspace. Thanks! —Preceding unsigned comment added by Yum!brands (talkcontribs) 18:29, 3 June 2009 (UTC)

Well, first of all, welcome to Wikipedia. I would encourage you to read our info on writing your first article, conflict of interest (as well as tips on what to do if you have one), and how to write neutrally. With regards to the info from the website, we really have no confirmation that you are who you say you are. You can donate the material, but please see this page on how to do that. Finally, as to your username, please see this page to learn your username may not be the best fit. TNXMan 18:42, 3 June 2009 (UTC)

Gayboygayboy101 block

Hi, just a note about this usernameblock. Just as I finished commenting that the name isn't offensive or disruptive, I noticed you'd blocked him. We have at least a couple of other usernames containing the word "gay," and this name wasn't a form of attack. I think it would have been better to wait and block him for vandalism. Exploding Boy (talk) 19:34, 3 June 2009 (UTC)

I don't know about an attack, but I do feel it was blatantly disruptive. Of course, if the user would like to request a new username, I'd have no problem unblocking them. TNXMan 19:58, 3 June 2009 (UTC)
Just curious about why you feel this particular name is blatantly disruptive. As I mentioned, we do have other users whose usernames include the word "gay." Exploding Boy (talk) 01:26, 4 June 2009 (UTC)
It sounds to me like a taunt and/or name calling. I know there are other users with "gay" in their name, but this didn't seem like a legitimate use of the word. If you disagree, please feel free to unblock. TNXMan 11:50, 4 June 2009 (UTC)
No, I'm pretty sure he was heading for a block anyway. I was just curious about the username issue. There have been a couple I've wondered about in the last day or so. Thanks. Exploding Boy (talk) 15:29, 4 June 2009 (UTC)
There has been some discussion about usernames at WT:U. As an active admin at UAA, you may be interested in the discussion also. Were there any other blocks of mine about which you had concerns? I welcome any review of my actions. TNXMan 16:16, 4 June 2009 (UTC)
No. There was another username that was posted on the UAA board and I couldn't for the life of me figure out why. When the user was then blocked I was concerned, but it turned out to have been a vandalblock, not a usernameblock. When I asked person who posted the username for attention, they more or less said it was a case of overzealousness. Exploding Boy (talk) 16:25, 4 June 2009 (UTC)
There are a few of those I've noticed also. Combined with batch username reports and accounts that are years old, sometimes it can difficult to sort out violations from non-violations. TNXMan 16:30, 4 June 2009 (UTC)

Kosovo

Me again, the Kosovo page is being attacked constantly by people refusing to accept fact.

  • One example; the article talks of Serbian boys taken as "slave booty" to Asia during the Ottoman period - the source is Serb historian with no reputation
  • My source; Ira Lapidus - is standard university text for the study of Islamic societies (in this case the Ottoman empire), explains how Christian boys were taken from the Balkans - not from Serbia in particular - and enlisted in the Janissary corps when they were older

Thuranx keeps editing, for no apparent reason. I have tried to instigate discussion with him here on my talk page, but he gives no specific examples of my "vandalism". He seems to be pushing POV or in any case, wants to maintain the status quo regarding the Kosovo article. It should be noted that the Kosovo article is tagged as not neutral and full of misleading citations. I have tried to add numerous citations but there is a huge problem with the editors (possibly administrator (s)) on the page. I would like to know what you think.

(Interestedinfairness (talk) 00:39, 4 June 2009 (UTC)).

It sounds like it is time for you and ThuranX to pursue dispute resolution. There are several steps to this process, but you seem to have completed the first few (attempting discussions on user/article talk). If you head over to the link I provided, you'll find people much more experienced than I am in handling disagreements. TNXMan 11:52, 4 June 2009 (UTC)

A page you proposed for deletion is now at AFD

Hi there, just letting you know that an IP removed your PROD tag, so I've listed Commentweeting at AFD. Cheers, Dawn Bard (talk) 15:27, 4 June 2009 (UTC)

Thank you for the heads up. I'll weigh in there soon. TNXMan 16:16, 4 June 2009 (UTC)

hello

why did u delete my page —Preceding unsigned comment added by Whiteknight43 (talkcontribs) 16:49, 4 June 2009 (UTC)

It appeared to contain negative unsourced biographic material. Wikipedia has a very strict policy about these types of pages. TNXMan 17:04, 4 June 2009 (UTC)

please review...

hi,

thanks for the feedback on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Karthik_Kannan. the references are now included as you suggested.

Kknatarajan (talk) 21:30, 4 June 2009 (UTC)

please let me know if you are okay with this. Kknatarajan (talk) 13:51, 5 June 2009 (UTC)kknatarajan

I've reviewed the sources. It does not appear that they provide in-depth coverage of the subject. Rather, they provide passing mentions or small quotes from Kannan. I would encourage you to read our info on notability and how it can be established. TNXMan 14:02, 5 June 2009 (UTC)

RfC for corporate usernames

I have created an RfC for a proposed change to the username policy in regards to corporate names. I invite your input. Thanks. Gigs (talk) 01:21, 5 June 2009 (UTC)

Thank you for the heads up. I have commented and also have watchlisted the discussion. TNXMan 01:29, 5 June 2009 (UTC)

World Innovation Summit for Education

Hello,

I have just seen that you deleted the World Innovation Summit for Education page, with a G11 code. I am trying to create a page that would explain the aims of this summit organized by the non-profit organization Qatar Foundation, in the way the World_Economic_Forum page does. I am new on Wikipedia but I am trying to write it from a neutral point of view. I know this is the first edition of the summit but I am not trying to advertise for it or whatever as there is no possibility to register to participate to the summit.

How can I properly create a page for this summit ?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Constance l (talk) 15:30, 5 June 2009 (UTC)

You are correct that the page was deleted because it appeared to be advertising. I would encourage you to do a few things. First of all, read our info on writing your first article, what makes an organization notable, and how to write from a neutral point of view. Secondly, please consider working on the article in a sandbox (something like User:Constance l/Sandbox) before moving the article to the mainspace. Finally, read our page on peacock terms and how to avoid them. TNXMan 15:37, 5 June 2009 (UTC)

your opinion please...

You wrote: "For the record, I completely agree with your comment at UAA. I did a little searching and it appears that Iquin is upset that Jauerback nominated an article at AfD."

User:Daniel Case suggested that a block was in order.

I have been contributing to the wikipedia for close to five years, and I have over 40,000 edits under my belt.

Over the years I have seen or experienced things that make me sensitive to governance issues. I am afraid I have found some administrators are reckless. I am afraid I have found some administrators throw their weight around, and bully regular users.

When I had my concern over User:Jauerback's offensive name I looked at UAA, and decided I was not familiar enough with the procedures and standards there to nominate his name for consideration. I admit I am unfamiliar with the procedures, so perhaps you could fill me in:

1.

What kinds of comments, at UAA, from a contributor with a previously clean record, should prompt a threat of blocking?

2.

Do you agree that either User:Iqinn or myself merited being threatened with a block?

3.

When an administrator makes a threat of a block, isn't there a checklist of things they should check off? Shouldn't they:

  1. make clear to the other contributor that the block threat was addressed at them?
  2. make clear the other contributor understood why they were being threatened with a block?
  3. make sure the other contributor understood what they needed to do to avoid being blocked?

Thanks! Geo Swan (talk) 18:14, 5 June 2009 (UTC)

I said "a block should be considered", which to me does not constitute a threat (Saying "I will block you for this," by contrast, would). But I feel it should be on the table if someone, no matter how good their standing, tries to settle a content dispute with a report to AIV or UAA. I consider it akin to making a phony 911 call. It is a serious misuse of resources, and an abuse of trust.
(edit conflict) Thank for taking the time to consider this issue. Hopefully, my answers will help you out.
1. I think any bad-faith actions should warrant a consideration of a block. If you'll remember, Daniel Case's comment (link goes to entire conversation before I removed it) only mentioned the consideration, not an actual block.
2. You should not have been threatened with a block and I don't see a record of a threat of one (unless I missed something?). Iquinn was rightly told that bad-faith actions (using a noticeboard, such as UAA or AIV, where immediate administrative action is requested, to report a user with whom s/he was in a content dispute), are frowned upon and warrant the consideration of a block.
3. Yes to all of those things and I think Daniel Case's comment covered those. However, I don't want to speak for Daniel or for what he did or did not intend with his comment.
I hope this helps address your concerns and please let me know if I can help further. TNXMan 18:45, 5 June 2009 (UTC)
Thank you for the support. I will clarify that, to me, "consideration" of a block means the kind of activity that takes place at AN/I, where a group discussing the issue reaches a consensus as to whether such action is necessary or not. (I should also add that this is not the first time at UAA that someone filed a frivolous report against an established user as apparent payback for an action elsewhere. And yes, when that happened, I was just as clear about it being blockable (diff later, if you want)). Daniel Case (talk) 18:49, 5 June 2009 (UTC)

Property cash buyer

I had a request on my talk page to get a copy of a speedily deleted entry sent to the original editor. Since you were the one who handled the deletion, and I am not an administrator, could you please userfy the entry so that it can be brought up to Wikipedia standards? The entry in question is Property cash buyer. Please see my talk page for the original plea. Thank you for your help. Wperdue (talk) 05:09, 6 June 2009 (UTC)wperdue

Done You can find the page in question at User:Thepropertyexpert/Property cash buyer. Let me know if you need further assistance. Best, TNXMan 06:56, 6 June 2009 (UTC)

Bullying Produce for Kids

Tnxman307: I want a better explanation, rationale and clear understanding as to why the Produce for Kids page continues to be deleted, because I believe this is completely unjustified.
Produce for Kids is a non-profit. My goal is to create an informational page about the organization and those efforts have been prevented numerous times with causes that do NOT match the speedy deletion requirements.
Even after attempting to make my case against speedy deletion, you went and deleted the page AGAIN, for an entirely DIFFERENT reason.
If you do explain your actions, I will report this as online bullying.

--Greedo (talk) 14:00, 8 June 2009 (UTC)

The page was deleted because it did not indicate why the company was notable. I would encourage you to read our info on writing your first article and how to support your article with independent reliable sources. You may also want to work on the article in a sandbox (something like User:Greedo/Sandbox) before moving it to the mainspace. This will give you a chance to improve it and correct any issues. TNXMan 14:05, 8 June 2009 (UTC)

Thank you for the speedy reply. I'm glad to see it was almost as quick as your two deletions. I want it recorded that I was not given an effective amount of time to write on the page why Produce for Kids is notable, since the page was deleted so quickly. There was no opportunity to showcase the media reports that the campaign has received, because again, before I could, you deleted the page. I have created two Wikipedia pages and both times I've created them in the main space and have had little difficulty, except in this instance.
I will move forward with creating this page in the sandbox, but the issue remains, as soon as I export it from my sandbox, there is no guarantee that my content will stay live on the main space. This is the fourth attempt to create a Produce for Kids page, which means the page will be deleted again with little-to-no justification. Just the arbitrary and subjective A7 clause that you editors seem to throw about. If it continues to happen, this bullying will be reported. --Greedo (talk) 14:23, 8 June 2009 (UTC)

Actually, the criteria to which you refer is neither arbitrary or subjective. The best way to ensure an article sticks is to provide reliable sources that demonstrate why the company is notable. Also, please check out the links I provided earlier. They have some very useful information. TNXMan 14:26, 8 June 2009 (UTC)

An admin should know better.

I was going to template you until I saw you are an Admin, cmon, remember we can't remove the speedy delete templates ourselves, let it go through the process. The reviewing admin may not agree with me you never know. Hell in a Bucket (talk) 14:34, 8 June 2009 (UTC)

Actually, I was the reviewing admin! I've declined the speedy and proposed the article for deletion instead. TNXMan 14:41, 8 June 2009 (UTC)
oops, I'm glad I didn't template you. My apologies. Hell in a Bucket (talk) 14:42, 8 June 2009 (UTC)
No problem. If you have further questions, just let me know. TNXMan 14:44, 8 June 2009 (UTC)

Finding the Unblock users

I'm finding these by by going to the complete list of user's and typing in admin's names. Then I just hold my mouse over it to see if the user with an inapprorate name is blocked.--Abce2|AccessDenied 15:17, 8 June 2009 (UTC)

Ah, I see. That makes sense. Well, thank you for doing that. It may prevent future vandalism. TNXMan 15:21, 8 June 2009 (UTC)

Thanks

Thanks for blocking all those names.
Thank you for the potatoes. Mmmm, french fries… TNXMan 15:58, 8 June 2009 (UTC)

Jolly Technologies

Hello Tnxman307

Today you deleted one of the pages I created "Jolly Technologies". I wonder why it was deleted. I wrote this page by copy pasting content from anothe software company and I have seen so many small companies, like TechSmith listed on WikiPedia. Whereas Jolly Technologies is a world renowned company with over 10,000 clients, including US Army, US Navy, US Air Force, Intel, Symantec, Dell, Harvard, Stanford, Duke, Purdue, Boeing, Siemens. The company is #1 in security industry. Just curious what was the criteria used for considering this company non-notable so that I will not waste my time on future articles. I put so much efforts on learning syntax all that to prepare this page.

Best regards,

Wikipandit —Preceding unsigned comment added by Wikipandit (talkcontribs) 17:58, 6 June 2009 (UTC)
