Press Play on Tape edit

Hi, Thue. I'm going to see if I can write an article Press Play on Tape. Are you available to help interpret Danish language sources? I'm going to see what I can do WhisperToMe (talk) 03:33, 22 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

  • If it's doable, I'll try to add quotations to citations so it will be easy for Wikipedians to see how significant of a mention the band has in a given source. WhisperToMe (talk) 03:41, 22 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

After reviewing the old article, while a lot of sources were cited, many seemed to be inaccessible, not reliable sources, and/or trivial mentions - people probably concluded the there was no real notability because if how the article was sourced. My strategy is to separate sources into classes, illustrating which ones support notability on a GNG basis and which ones are trivial mentions (but are used anyway) WhisperToMe (talk) 05:23, 22 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

Sure, I can help interpret Danish sources. Just post any questions here on this talk page. Thue (talk) 07:51, 22 May 2013 (UTC)Reply
Ok! I'll keep you posted when I start writing the article. WhisperToMe (talk) 07:29, 23 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

What does this string of text mean?

WhisperToMe (talk) 03:46, 24 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

I used Google translate on the Scandinavian sources and started a draft at User:WhisperToMe/Press Play On Tape WhisperToMe (talk) 05:52, 24 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

Thank you! I've contacted the closing admin of the 2010 AFD and he'll take a look. In the meantime I would recommend that someone write versions for the Danish, Norwegian Bokmål and Nysork, and German Wikipedias. WhisperToMe (talk) 19:11, 24 May 2013 (UTC)Reply
I've moved it to the main space and I will see how it goes. If you are interested please start an article in Danish about the band. WhisperToMe (talk) 22:22, 24 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

Picture edit

Hej Thue!

If you have some time and feel like taking some pictures, a high res picture of the University of Copenhagen would be great! If possible to take during nice light such as sunset or sunrise, so the color of the brick really stands out. I work for a company and we need a picture of the university for our universities webpage :) And if you can upload it as copyright free :)

NIST article edit

Hi Thue. I've had to undo your addition to the second para of the Controversy section in the NIST article; not because it isn't good text and a good reference, but because the last sentence of the first para already says the same thing -- including the same reference to the Bruce Schneier article in Wired. Reckoners series edit

Hi Thue,

Thanks for getting the Steelheart article started! As for the series name, I've seen "Reckoners Series" (or trilogy) referred to several times, including the reference I used (http://www.publishersweekly.com/pw/by-topic/childrens/childrens-industry-news/article/59374-brandon-sanderson-steelheart-promotion-takes-flight.html). I've been following Sanderson a long time and he will often use a different (unofficial) term for a book. Since people know "Steelheart" as a name, he is referring to the sequel unofficially as that. Also, the character Steelheart dies at the end of the first book so (barring resurrection) the series isn't about him but is about the Reckoners themselves.

Other sites (Goodreads, Amazon, etc.) all use "Reckoners Series" or just "Reckoners". Example at Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/Steelheart-Brandon-Sanderson/dp/0385743564) is: "#1 New York Times bestselling author Brandon Sanderson, coauthor of Robert Jordan’s Wheel of Time series and creator of the internationally bestselling Mistborn Trilogy, presents Steelheart, the first book in the Reckoners series, an action-packed thrill ride that will leave readers breathless. Sorry, Thue. I was just trying to clean up a disambiguation page. If there was an second Easter Crisis, it should be mentioned.

Would you like some help writing an article about it? --Uncle Ed (talk) 17:21, 17 November 2013 (UTC)Reply

I made a quick stub. Thue (talk) 17:57, 17 November 2013 (UTC)Reply
Excellent! Now all we need are some references. --Uncle Ed (talk) 18:14, 17 November 2013 (UTC)Reply

POV in Filibuster article edit

Read Wikipedia policy on Wikipedia:NPOV. This is an encyclopedia and is written as such. Encyclopedias don't write analysis. Everything here must be supported by reliable sources. What you wrote is a clear violation of Wikipedia policy and that should be clear to you once you read through the linked policies. - Maximusveritas (talk) 02:56, 22 November 2013 (UTC)Reply

In addition to being true, the text was based on a citation; I can cite analysis. Just because most newspaper does not include analysis, I can still cite analysis from other places. Thue (talk) 13:22, 22 November 2013 (UTC)Reply

The worst place to wander off topic... edit

... is the article lead. Lead is supposed to be the summary of the entire article, except for trivial identification data. But criticizing related subjects (as opposed to the subject itself) must certainly not be done in the lead.

Hello, I'm BracketBot. I have automatically detected that your edit to European Union roaming regulations may have broken the syntax by modifying 2 "()"s. If you have, don't worry: just edit the page again to fix it. If I misunderstood what happened, or if you have any questions, you can leave a message on my operator's talk page.

List of unpaired brackets remaining on the page:

Is Reddit typically considered an acceptable reference? Edprevost (talk) 21:41, 26 September 2014 (UTC)Reply

Depends on what you use it for. /r/netsec is a subreddit with very competent posters, and the actual example post is easily verifiable if you have access to a $5/month Linux virtual server, so IMO it is OK in this case. Thue (talk) 21:46, 26 September 2014 (UTC)Reply

Coal liquefaction edit

Hi Thue, This message is about Coal Liquefaction, on which I made some edits today. This article focused on coal conversion to liquid fuels, which has been the main conversion route for decades. This is not true anymore. I would suggest to make coal liquefaction (more properly and commonly called "coal to liquids") a part of a larger chapter called "coal to X" or "coal conversion". Then, there could be three subparts (whatever the order): - "coal to liquids" or "coal liquefaction" - "coal to SNG" or "coal to natural gas" or "coal to substitute natural gas" - "coal to chemicals". I would also propose to delete the table of US projects. Almost all of them have been canceled while several Coal To X units are being started every year in China. I will be happy to work with you if you consider it useful. Sorry if I do not respect the guidelines the best - I am not well familiar with Wikipedia. Thank you for your contribution to Wikipedia. Best regards, Serge management2014@worldctx.com — Preceding unsigned comment added by Neonergie (talkcontribs) 17:31, 15 October 2014 (UTC)Reply

Hi Neonergie. I don't own the page coal liquefaction, don't really know much about coal Liquefaction, and only made first trivial edit on the page. If you wan't to make edits which you are unsure of, or which you known will be controversial, the right thing to do is to write your suggestion at Talk:Coal liquefaction. If people there think it is a good idea, or even if nobody there answers, then you can choose to go ahead with your changes. For what it is worth, I think your suggestions sounds like a very good idea. The right thing to do, if implemented, would also be to rename the article to coal conversion.
