Happy Diwali
editI am not entirely sure about this one. On one hand it is a persistant vandal, on the other hand it is five days since the last warning, and I responded to the WP:AIV report by giving a test4-template for today. Sjakkalle (Check!) 14:18, 31 October 2005 (UTC)
- In the hope that some kind of message goes through, and because I am lazy, I am not going to unblock. However, I don't feel very strongly about it, so I won't object if you unblock. Thue | talk 15:41, 31 October 2005 (UTC)
Idorunet
editYes I know User:Idorunet is really annoying, but please don't block it. The thing is that his IP is shared by good faith editors, and therefore autoblocker hits them too. Read about it at [1] and [2] for a recap of his vandalic activities. -- ( drini's vandalproof page ☎ ) 16:20, 31 October 2005 (UTC)
Thank you for taking care of DSML for me. Sorry about the confusion in the histories of the two pages. I was beginning to wonder if I was going about it in completely the wrong way! —HorsePunchKid→龜 23:49, 1 November 2005 (UTC)
Jeff Provine, Wikipedia, and the Press
editAn article you placed for VfD (and was deleted) has been cited by The Oklahoman as an evidence of importance of the author. Wikipedia:Wikipedia_as_a_press_source_2005#November_1.E2.80.9310 (No intent of criticism, just a funny little note since I didn't get to post it on the article page.)--Prosfilaes 00:10, 3 November 2005 (UTC)

editThank you for pointing out I had forgotton to add a {{gfdl}} tag to this photo. I have done so now.
Cheers,
John Hill
I looked at WP:CSD, WP:BIO, and WP:DVAIN. "Senior Resident Archaeologist" is not a claim to notability. And the polite thing to do would have been to complete an AfD, don't you think? - brenneman(t)(c) 13:40, 9 November 2005 (UTC)
- I think that the claim of notability was valid enough to make the article not a speedy. I often do list articles at AFD when I remove the speedy tag, but since I did not do so in this case since I was not 100% sure that the article should be deleted; I don't want to be the nominatot on AFD unless I feel really sure the article should be deleted. You can of course list it at AFD yourself, as you have done. Thue | talk 17:16, 10 November 2005 (UTC)
IP edits at Louisiana Purchase
editThe ip address you flagged for editing the Louisiana Purchase belongs to the Evergreen School District and I am a student and noticed the message, just thought I would let you know.
- Thanks, nice to know. Thue | talk 17:18, 10 November 2005 (UTC)
Safety siping can now be speedied as a copyvio. There is a proper article at siping.--chris.lawson 23:58, 12 November 2005 (UTC)
Thanks for the American link. (RJP 15:25, 19 November 2005 (UTC))
Image clearing.
editI'm using my discretion there... A lot of images have been uploaded by users who are no longer active. And a lot of the time theyve been warned about this with other images theyve uploaded and done nothing... so if this is the case, I've not bothered with them. Also, If the images *isnt* a blatant copyvio then I usually put a message on the article talk page. The templates Ive been using are at User:Agnte/ImageCleanups Agnte 15:51, 19 November 2005 (UTC)
- I am perfectly willing to speedy images if the uploader has been asked about other images and have not acted, or in very obvious cases. But in cases that are not completely clear-cut like Image:Jeremiah morrow bridge1.jpg you should post a message on the uploader talk page before marking speedy. Thue | talk 16:02, 19 November 2005 (UTC)
- Cool, No problems Agnte 16:09, 19 November 2005 (UTC)
- I've just looked at that again - that user has made a total of 3[3] edits in july, thats not active, and ive been speediying nosource images left by such people (after a google img search) - im not sure theres really any point doing notification (and waiting 7 days) in those cases. Agnte 19:07, 19 November 2005 (UTC)
- Well, if they do come back then they will possibly feel grumpy about not having been asked; asking in any case is the polite thing to do. And if they do come back they will have that message on their talk page, to learn from the next time they upload a picture. All in all, I would prefer that there is at least one message on their talk page before I speedy a picture. Thue | talk 21:55, 19 November 2005 (UTC)
RvB image.
editI wish for the image to be deleted to make it less likely for someone to come across the deleted edit summaries and see the source link, as I put it in on the assumption it would be okay, but later received an email from Rooster Teeth saying that they would prefer the link was not publically available. I have re-uploaded the file, with no source link, under a slightly different filename to ensure no ties to the deleted edit summary. The problem I want to help avoid is unlikely, but I'm feeling a little guilty about it, and I just wanted to do things right by Rooster Teeth.--Drat (Talk) 13:06, 8 December 2005 (UTC)
- Thankyou for deleting the image. I've deleted your entry from my talk page to minimize potential... 'incidents'.--Drat (Talk) 13:35, 8 December 2005 (UTC)
Question re:blocking
editHi, I saw that you blocked the new user Jakeremingtonandtherattlesnakes. If you haven't done so already, do you think the new user Weloverhodrimarsdenmostly is the same person? It looks to be the same style. I'm too unsure to block him myself.--ViolinGirl♪ 14:14, 8 December 2005 (UTC)
- It is possible, but I am not sure enough to block. Anyway, Jakeremingtonandtherattlesnakes was a relatively impotent vandal, if he starts again with a new account we can just block him again. Thue | talk 14:24, 8 December 2005 (UTC)
- Okay, I was just curious. Thanks!--ViolinGirl♪ 15:57, 8 December 2005 (UTC)
Thanks
editThanks for the heads up -- any funny business from that one and I'd suggest an indef. block; seems to be the same person who's done this sort of thing before. Mindspillage (spill yours?) 15:55, 8 December 2005 (UTC)
John Auger Holabird
editI'm slow figuring out everything here. . .I'm trying to delete the record, because it's actually "John AgUr Holabird." Hopefully I will figure it out soon. Thanks for checking in, feel free to give me any advice you have.
Your name
editWhen I was little (in 2nd-4th grade), I made up the word "thue" in my head when I looked at a Macintosh keyboard. I never knew it was a real word until you came along more than a decade later. Where did you get the name "Thue" from? --Shultz 20:08, 8 December 2005 (UTC)
- My mother; it is a normal Danish name :). It actually means "small mound" in Danish, and is currently use by 281 living Danes. Thue | talk 20:18, 8 December 2005 (UTC)
- How do you know it's used by exactly 282 living Danes? I live in the US and I don't know how many people use my name.
- Because the Danish government keeps a list of Danes - Since you don't know how many people have your name then I assume that the U.S. does not keep such a list? The info from Statistics Denmark is at [4]. Thue | talk 20:57, 8 December 2005 (UTC)
Monkey Tennis Deletion
editHi - in July you put Monkey tennis up for deletion, and I assume you were successful. It has reappeared but I can't find the history of the vote or what happened and so don't know what to do this time. Any advice?
BTW - I didn't create the page on either occasion. The fact that Monkey Tennis is my alias is a complete coincidence! Monkey Tennis 21:16, 10 December 2005 (UTC)
- The former content of the page was "Popular bar sport played primarily in Lee-on-Solent, UK.". The deletion debate is here: Wikipedia:Votes for deletion/Monkey tennis; I found it by simply typing in the address.
- The new article seems better than the old one, but I can't find any references on the web for the claimed uses, so the new article may need to be deleted anyway. Thue | talk 09:23, 11 December 2005 (UTC)
- Thanks. I couldn't find a link to the page on the history or in the AfD/VfD pages so cheers for pointing me in the right direction. The new page was created by a registered user so I'll try and contact them. Word Monkey Tennis 12:40, 12 December 2005 (UTC)
Anon on Tutorial pages
editThe guidance for the Wikipedia:Administrator intervention against vandalism page is only list if "The vandal vandalized recently after the last warning". The last warning when I responded (and there are no warnings after) was prior to it being listed. The vandal had already stopped before you blocked him and before he was even listed. - Tεxτurε 19:57, 12 December 2005 (UTC)
- The last warning was 17:35 [5]; the user vandalised 17:39: [6]. Thue | talk 20:10, 12 December 2005 (UTC)
Oops. So much for me having my facts straight... - Tεxτurε 20:46, 12 December 2005 (UTC)
Whoops!
editThanks a lot, SqueakBox 22:04, 13 December 2005 (UTC)
Hey, I see you've removed my speedy delete tag. Can you or the author of the article substantiate that this exists outside of the 1996 reference that is mentioned? I thought that we were encouraged to reference our sources? I don't see much of that going on here... I think that either the whole article needs rewriting to include the fact that the terminology is purely anecdotal or removing. I guess it should go to Afd... (you're the Admin, you say it's legit, can you tell me why?) Budgiekiller 23:06, 14 December 2005 (UTC)
- Well, on second though it does seem like it should be deleted. But it is not covered by any of the CSD criteria, so I would say it should go through afd. Thue | talk 23:08, 14 December 2005 (UTC)
re: gordon hunter
editA simple web search will not yield results, primarily due to the common surname. However, a number of Hartford and London-based papers have covered his career. The Daily Mirror in London covered an early performance by Mr. Hunter in its "Arts" section in 1994 entitled, "A Questionable Future For Avant Garde Composers"
Any questions please feel free to email me at Bradlee@hartford.edu
Thanks!
- There were only 67 results in that web search, so if there were any relevant hits I should have found them; gordon being a common name does not change that. I don't feel that one article in a newspaper is enough for me to withdraw the nomination. Thue | talk 23:41, 14 December 2005 (UTC)
re: gordon hunter
editGordon Hunter is a beautiful man. You are just jealous of his gifts.
I have created an article on Barry Wood (cricketer). If the current article in the Barry Wood namespace is deleted as appearslikely, the article on the cricketer should move to Barry Wood as most of the links for What Links Here are for the cricketer. Leonig Mig sockpuppets
editThank you for reverting Locke Cole's blanking of the three Leonig Mig sockpuppet pages; but he (Locke Cole) has again blanked them. Andy Mabbett 09:59, 15 December 2005 (UTC)
I reverted your edit. I believe that (Comicpanel}}) applies only to single panels within a comic book, not a newspaper. Cafe Nervosa | talk 22:32, 19 December 2005 (UTC)
- Well, the panel has by all probability been released in compilation form, so the tag would apply. Even if that was not the case, I think that is a technicality which should not disqualify use of the tag. Finally, "no source" IMO not the appropriate tag as we know the source, namely Charles M. Schulz. Thue | talk 22:40, 19 December 2005 (UTC)
- Okay, no source doesn't apply. I'l let you decide how to leave it and I will accept your decision. Cafe Nervosa | talk23:07, 19 December 2005 (UTC)
Re: Template:Diffuse nebula edit
editYeah, you got that right. Thanks for that, I originally put in the if templates, and had a minor scramble to fix a couple of other templates.JamesHoadley 01:56, 20 December 2005 (UTC)
