Is not spam edit

The Wikipedia page "User talk:Tuminof" has been changed on 19 October 2011 by Theroadislong, with the edit summary: General note: Adding spam links on Venice. (TW)

Hello Therodislong, my link regards official collaboration with the city of Venice! Isn't a spam! Remind please. Bests. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Tuminof (talkcontribs) 11:32, 19 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

It might be time. edit

The Optical Express thread has dropped off the COI noticeboard and there's been no activity for some time. I'm willing to take the COI template off if you think it sounds like a good idea, on the understanding that both parties stick to the talk page - the article must now be on the watchlists (and hair-trigger revert lists) of enough experienced editors that we can come down heavy if it starts up again. Sound like a plan? Failedwizard (talk) 09:54, 22 September 2011 (UTC)Reply

Agreed... no problem.Theroadislong (talk) 09:56, 22 September 2011 (UTC)Reply

Re: Jewelry Television edit

Re your message: Pinkadelica reverted their last edit. I see that they have resumed trying to add in marketing and copyrighted material into the article. I issued them another warning regarding the copyright material. If they continue along the same lines, please report them to WP:AIV. -- Gogo Dodo (talk) 04:07, 5 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

Looking for a second opinion... edit

I'm looking at the DynaVox, which is fairly adverty and wondering the best course of action for it - do you think it's a db-spam level? I'm wary of nominating without a second opinion... Failedwizard (talk) 15:42, 5 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

I've removed some of the marketing speak and added some citation requests I don't think it's bad enough for db-spam but it certainly needs working on.Theroadislong (talk) 15:54, 5 October 2011 (UTC)Reply
Cheers :) I'll add it to my ongoing projects list. Failedwizard (talk) 16:02, 5 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

NorthShoreWeb edit

Thank you for bringing this to our attention. We are new to editing content on Wikipedia and will be more mindful of proposing future updates on our Talk Page. The updates we recently made were factual updates to our research section (these changes can be referenced on our website here: http://www.northshore.org/research/about-us/research-facilities/). Aside from utilizing our Talk Page for future updates, do you have any additional recommendations? Again, we appreciate your feedback. Northshoreweb (talk) 18:18, 13 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

Omnia (band) edit

I understand that editing that page under this account might be seen as a COI. We took very good care of editing the text in a way that it is neutral and factual. Be fair, if I wanted to put promotional text in there, wouldn't I have done that with an account bearing not this name?

So could you please be more specific in what part(s) caused the offence in your eyes, so that we can make sure the new text is up to par for all to enjoy the completeness of the information.

For example, I saw you even rolled back the infobox change, in which I updated the current bandmembers and removed the old bandmembers, because the old bandmember list with all ex-members included was just too long and also included in the text anyway. I fail to see how that is a COI.

Omnia webmaster (talk) 09:26, 15 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

Feel free to add back the info box changes but the rest was VERY promotional, non neutral and unreferenced.Theroadislong (talk) 09:38, 15 October 2011 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for your feedback. We will revise the text again. Can you please point out here what you found promotional, non neutral and unreferenced, so we can make sure the new text will be acceptable for you (and all the others)? That would be greatly appreciated. Omnia webmaster (talk) 10:22, 15 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

Let me see..... edit

You my good friend are not as bright as you might think you are. My personal comment was the last sentence. The rest are true facts. If you have problems with the facts, then search them up. If you can prove me wrong then I will oblige and not repost the truth back onto the BDS page.

Rollbacks edit

To what do I owe the pleasure of this revert? Are we not supposed to use that tag at COI/N or something? Using rollback on a regular user's edits, especially when they are not so apparently disruptive, is akin to templating them, i.e. it's considered very rude. If you use undo, you at least have the opportunity to make an explanation. Daniel Case (talk) 19:41, 1 November 2011 (UTC)Reply

Questions About My IHOP changes edit

Hi TheRoadIsLong

I have posted a question to you on my wall - would you be able to respond?

Thanks

Philanderson888 (talk) 13:13, 6 November 2011 (UTC)Reply

Final question to [User:Theroadislong|Theroadislong] - would ANY entry or reference to IHOP London be acceptable? I think in an unbiased encyclopaedia it would be good to include the influence of this organisation around the world, which is considerable. If I found some published article mentioning this, would THAT be the key to acceptability? I am keen to work on this to make sure work is to published standards, although since this is my first attempted post it may take a little while to achieve!

(Please respond on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:International_House_of_Prayer page)

You really expect me to think you are truly in favor of what you post on my talk page? The bias in the article was obvious. In response to your post edit

Dear Theroadislong, Thank you for your comments on my talk page. I can assure you that I would like to make a genuine contribution to Wikipedia and to help to improve some articles. Although I have used wikipedia many times and for many years I am new to editing and therefore and prone to making mistakes. Please accept my apologies for any errors I may have made- I am more than willing to learn. With regards to the Noah's Ark Zoo Farm page, I personally found that it contained very little information about the zoo itself. I am not trying to remove or dispute the sections on creationism or on links with the circus as they are obviously a valid part of the page. I also feel that adding more information to a page is more important than removing it, as the more information that is on an encyclopidia the better (providing that the information is correct obviously!). I really dislike arguments of any kind, so would like to remain on the fence in this article's heated discussions! I hope I have cleared up any misunderstandings with you, and I look forward to working with you in the furture to improve this page. (Mmathgrad27 (talk) 10:00, 8 December 2011 (UTC))Reply

Unfair Accusation of Spamming edit

Hello

I feel that my addition of external links to the Wikipedia pages "Genesis creation narrative," "Ibbur," and "Gilgul" have been unfairly flagged for inappropriate activity. The external links added are primary source texts directly related to the Wikipedia page subject . They are not commercial or ideological. Please advise.

Thank you

Jeangohile

I removed them because they linked to a blog and blogs are not considered reliable sources for Wikipedia, if you feel they are a special case you could discuss on the article talk pages. This link may be helpful links normally to be avoided All good wishes Theroadislong (talk) 17:13, 22 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

Ok I understand and thanks for responding. I still feel my external links provide important primary source texts that are not available online. Yes they are presented on a blog but there is no writing of my own presented. Please reconsider.

La Maison du Chocolat edit

Hi there. I saw that you tagged La Maison du Chocolat with various issues. Thing is, the page was probably one of the most blatant pieces of advertising I've ever seen on Wikipedia. So you probably should have 1) nominated it for speedy deletion, 2) rewritten it, or 3) looked at the history and reverted back to non-spam. I can see from your contribs you've been around a long time, so this is just a heads up that you missed something kind of glaring. Cheers. — The Potato Hose 02:07, 27 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

Hey! I am aware of this user made some changes to the Morleigh Steinberg's article without adding references or sources. Thoughts?? Miss Bono (zootalk) 13:12, 27 May 2013 (UTC)Reply
There is a link at the top labeled "TW" with a drop down menu of links.Theroadislong (talk) 13:48, 27 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

If it was the same user, there would be probably someone telling him/her the rules here, because if it's good information there would be fair to have a good source. Ha! you are funny. I have been working today in a few articles, I created the article for Zucchero's last Album, fixed some thing in random articles, I uploaded a logo for EDUN and start a sandbox on Arcane Collective.

The thing is I want to know if (knowing that User:Arcanecollective has the "email me" action enable and he seems to know about the company), can I email him to ask for help in the development of the new article? Maybe he can fill the new infobox I found for the company. So what do you say? Can I?? Miss Bono (zootalk) 18:56, 28 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

I would strongly advice you NOT to contact them via email, if the information is not available from secondary sources then Wikipedia can't use it.Theroadislong (talk) 19:02, 28 May 2013 (UTC)Reply
What information do you mean?? and what is a secondary source?? Miss Bono (zootalk) 19:04, 28 May 2013 (UTC)Reply
I mean the information you are looking for, to put in the info box. A secondary source is a source that is not connected to the subject. Though for basic info box details you can use their own website.Theroadislong (talk) 19:12, 28 May 2013 (UTC)Reply
That's the problem I have not access to the internet, so, I was thinking that as that user knows about the company maybe could make a research and post what he found in the infobox with reference. Do you understand? What do you think?? Miss Bono (zootalk) 19:14, 28 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

Miss Bono, that user would also have a conflict of interest and ideally should only make suggestions and list possible references on the article talk page. It is not a good idea to encourage COI editing. Please read WP:RS for a better understanding of which sources are preferred. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 20:29, 28 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

Film Festivel Link edit

- Can you please tell me whats wrong with the post I put on Cleveland Film Festivel taken directly from their site?

The Cleveland International Film Festival is the premier film event between New York and Chicago. Today's CIFF includes a full survey of contemporary international filmmaking with approximately 150 feature films and 130 short subject films from over 60 countries. Is it the listing of how many films?

Other posts have either the attendance, claim they are the largest or list the amount of films so I see no difference. Instead of just removing would you please either say what exactly you have an issue with or modify the others to not include the same thing. Thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Nammoumj (talkcontribs) 18:35, 4 June 2013 (UTC)Reply

You just answered your own question...it's taken directly from their site. You have copied and pasted copyrighted text with a promotional tone. If you could find some neutral wording to add that would be fine. I'll take a look at the other listings too. Kind regards.Theroadislong (talk) 18:43, 4 June 2013 (UTC)Reply

It's normally not copyrighted text when something is just a fact. That is like saying it is 79 degrees outside and saying that is copyrighted because I saw it on weatherchannel. These are hard numbers that just say how many films they show and didn't think it would be promotional. Not trying to be rude but just want to know what I can put. Thanks :) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Nammoumj (talkcontribs) 18:48, 4 June 2013 (UTC)Reply

I would be VERY cautious about uploading other peoples photos.Theroadislong (talk) 20:11, 12 June 2013 (UTC):Oh, ok. So can you request a deletion for the picture?? Please don't shoot me; I'm the messenger. In case you've not seen it already at Talk:American Academy of Financial Management, I'm here to let you know about this page; it seems a thoroughly frivolous complaint, but it still might be worth your attention, since you are named in the complaint. Hi, I'm having some difficulty navigating Wiki's websites and ask if you'd please reply directly to my email at fine8357@gmail.com. 1. I tried unsuccessfully to get "adopted;" any suggestions? 2. How can I determine whether my submission, "Social Price" ia accepted? 3. I have assiduously submitted my first Wiki article, “Social Price” but I see “This is a draft Articles for creation submission. It is not currently pending review.” Can you please tell me what this means and should I do anything about it? Thanks much, Seymour H. Fine Seymour H. We don't usually credit photographers on article pages? edit

Hi there! I saw your edit at Henry Moore, with the summary we don't usually credit photographers on article pages. But I can't see any sort of consensus or guideline that says we don't usually credit photographers on article pages. Could you point me to it? I ask because I do usually credit photographers of people when those photographers are themselves notable, as is the case here, and was thus surprised by your edit. Thanks, Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 23:11, 17 June 2013 (UTC)Reply

I suppose it's debatable MOS says..."Unless relevant to the subject, do not credit the image author or copyright holder in the article. It is assumed that this is not necessary to fulfill attribution requirements of the GFDL or Creative Commons licenses as long as the appropriate credit is on the image description page. If the artist or photographer is independently notable, though, then a wikilink to the artist's biography may be appropriate, but image credits in the info box image are discouraged, even if the artist is notable, since the infobox should only contain key facts of the articles subject, per MOS:INFOBOX." Kind regardsTheroadislong (talk) 08:00, 18 June 2013 (UTC)Reply
Ah yes indeed, that is the bit I had failed to find, thank you. I'd just read where it says:
"For photographs:
  • Where was it taken?
  • When was it taken?
  • Who took it? (Generally, this is only included in the caption if the photographer is notable)
  • Why was it taken?"
of which I usually ignore points 1, 2 and 4 but respect #3. I take the point about minimum info in an infobox, but note that it is commonly honoured in the breach rather than in the observance, and that many portraits, especially paintings, are credited to their creators within infoboxes. Anyway, I'll happily respect your judgement on Moore; my own inclination is to credit the photographer who has been good enough to upload his (rather good) image. By the way, that image is at such very high resolution that a decent portrait of Moore without any "intrusive" sculptures could easily be made from it (which would I think solve the freedom of panorama issue). Please let me know if you would like me to upload a sample cropped version to Commons. Regards, Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 18:28, 19 June 2013 (UTC)Reply

• The AAFM Legal Counsel Disclosed to the junior WSJ staff reporter that the AAFM is in direct contractual agreement with Accreditation Agencies for Business School Programs.

• AAFM or its legal counsel never discussed the above legal agreements with Mr. Jason Zweig and he would not have any direct knowledge of AAFM based on any research or communications.

Hi Theroadislong

I received the following message from you:

"Hello, I'm Theroadislong. I wanted to let you know that I removed an external link you added to the page Alternative education, because it seemed to be inappropriate for an encyclopedia. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page, or take a look at our guidelines about links. Thank you. Theroadislong (talk) 18:23, 4 July 2013 (UTC)"

Villagelearning.org, as stated, is an alternative education resource, as it contains information regarding alternative education as well as first-hand accounts of people all across the world making use of alternative education. It is not a for-profit website, contains no advertisements, and does not make use of any donations whatsoever.

I have gone through the 19 points regarding links to be avoided and none of those seem to apply in why it would not be accepted onto the page.

The following, I presume, is the reason for it:

"It is obvious that a link from Wikipedia to an external site may drive Web traffic to that site. But in line with Wikipedia policies, you should avoid linking to a site that you own, maintain, or represent—even if Wikipedia guidelines seem to imply that it may otherwise be linked. When in doubt, you may go to the talk page and let another editor decide. This suggestion is in line with Wikipedia's conflict-of-interest guidelines."

All it basically means, then, is that someone else but this user should link to it? That doesn't make an awful lot of sense in this case although I most definitely understand why the policy was put into place.

Please advise?

Warm regards Villagelearning org (talk) 18:38, 4 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

my page edit

Hi there, my page Mark Yaeger was started by an intern here at my studio and I was helping provide reliable sources once it became flagged. I'm only trying to make it look better, as it mostly looked horrible before! I'd appreciate any info or insight as to where my sources are not cited as reliable as they may be, and anything that can keep the page live. It's used as a source for google searches by production companies, directors, interviewers in preparing for interviews, etc.

Thanks so much

Firstly it's not a good idea to edit your own article. IMDb, Amazon and Youtube are not considered reliable sources for Wikipedia, you will need to find other reliable third party references to show notability. well I think the one I cropped and added to the info box was as good as you can get, but it's down to personal preferences I suppose? You could try persuading the "owner" of the article. Theroadislong (talk) 13:10, 11 July 2013 (UTC)Reply
He won't talk to me. He never does. But I think Wikipedia is not about personal preferences, is more about having more decent articles. I love Bono and I like him just as old and with his big nose, but let's be honest; that picture is not the best the article can have. And that user does not own the article. In fact, nobody owns any article in Wikipedia... Thoughts? Maybe you can find a picture where he is looking straight to the camera and has a good resolution, c'mon... he is Bono he has more pictures on-line than the Queen Elizabeth. Did you find something on Flirck we can use?? Miss Bono(zootalk) 18:08, 11 July 2013 (UTC)Reply
I changed back the image to the one you added. If the owner doesn't like it, he better calls Bono and asks his opinion. Wikipedia is not a personal preference website. Miss Bono(zootalk) 19:31, 11 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

Making a change to Pop Up Retail edit

Hi Theroadislong,

Understand that I had too many links to direct content affiliated with my co. re: a recent update to the Pop Up Retail page. Any way to contribute the content sans links? If possible, would be great to get a sense of whether the content itself was problematic, or just the links (as mentioned in the message I received) so that I can update appropriately without breaking rules.

Thanks much, M — Preceding unsigned comment added by PopMikeUp (talkcontribs) 14:14, 12 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

It's advisable not to link at all to your own company, the content seemed mostly OK, but would need referencing to reliable third party sources other than your own company. Theroadislong (talk) 14:27, 12 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

I would reconsider how you express your dissatisfaction, anyone can see the comments you make on other people's talk pages. First of all, I don't consider the Bono article my territory (I don't even edit the article prose, FYI), I just think the reasons you are providing for changing the image make no sense. Secondly, as I already said, we can only use free use images. Can you please explain why the useful information about institutes is being cut off? It takes away the soul of the article, as they are an integral part of the organization's framework.
