  • I'm sorry to see you go and I hope you'll return at some point, even if it's at a much lower level of activity. If you need anything (wiki-related or not) then don't hesitate to email me through WP or direct to hjmitchell [at] ymail [dot] com. All the best to you. • I'm sorry to see you go, but it's important to sort out one's priorities in life, so I completely understand. All the very best in everything, and do come and say hi when/if you're back. On behalf of all of us at WP:GOCE, take care and hope to see you again soon. Cheers. - S Masters (talk) 16:09, 28 August 2010 (UTC)
I also am sorry to see you leave. I know we don't know each other, but I always am sad to stumble upon these kinds of situations where someone feels the need to leave. I am also going through a tough time with priorities to straighten out. I don't have school, but I am going through trouble finding a job, which is comparable. I was recently dumped by my ex. So I understand how you feel and wish you all the best and hope you will return at some point, even if longer than a year. CycloneGU (talk) 01:59, 29 August 2010 (UTC)
I'll miss you. I hope you can find time to come back someday. Soap 15:25, 29 August 2010 (UTC)
  • I've only recently joined the guild, and it's sad to see someone leaving who has clearly had a great impact here. However, you are absolutely right - your real life is of much greater importance. So I'll say "Don't hurry back", but I mean it in a positive way - that you should not come back prematurely if you still have any real life issues left that you really need to get sorted first. (And having said that, I do hope to see you back here some day) -- Boing! said Zebedee (talk) 18:19, 29 August 2010 (UTC)

Re:Goodbye.

Oh, I'm sorry to hear that you've been called away; you've done so much good for the encyclopedia, and you've been a good wiki-friend. I really hope you'll be able to get things straightened out, and come back next summer. In the meantime, I'll continue to help with Wikipedia:WikiProject American Old West as much as I can on Sundays and Wednesdays, hopefully sometimes on Saturdays as well. I'm sure that it's going to flourish, very soon!

Best wishes! Wilhelmina Will (talk) 22:34, 28 August 2010 (UTC)

New MDB Feature

Hello! I have just added a new feature to MessageDeliveryBot. It is now possible to have the message delivered on behalf of a WikiProject instead of a specific user. The user who requested the delivery will still be visible in a comment, as well as in the welcome message given to a user if the bot is creating his talk page, however, the bot's edit summary and signature will use the WikiProjects name. To use this new feature, fill in the optional 'WikiProject Name' field when making a request (leave out the Wikipedia: namespace prefix). If this field is left blank, then your username will be used to sign requests, as the bot previously did. Happy editing!

GOCE newsletter

Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors Backlog Elimination Drive!

GOCE September 2010 backlog elimination drive progress graphs

Participation report — We have 71 participants in the September drive. 95 people signed up for the July drive, and in May we had 36.

Progress report — We have been making solid progress in eliminating the 2008 articles from the backlog so far. If we continue to focus our firepower we can completely wipe out 2008 from the queue. Overall volumes are lower than expected though, with nearly a thousand articles yet to be done if we are to meet our overall target. If you have not yet participated in the drive, we recommend you do so. If each person who signed up edits one article per day from now till the end of the month we can eliminate another 1,065 articles from the backlog. All contributions are appreciated.

Announcement: credit for 10k+ articles — Participants editing a 10k word article may claim credit for two 5k+ articles on the leaderboard. Those that edit a 15k word article may claim credit for three. Regardless, the article is still counted as a single article in the tallies.

Reminder — Articles from the Requests page can be included in your tally, even if they do not have a copy edit tag. This is a great place to go if you are interested in finding a higher quality article to work on.

Wikipedia:Pending changes/Straw poll on interim usage

Hi. As you recently commented in the straw poll regarding the ongoing usage and trial of Pending changes, this is to notify you that there is an interim straw poll with regard to keeping the tool switched on or switching it off while improvements are worked on and due for release on November 9, 2010. This new poll is only in regard to this issue and sets no precedent for any future usage. Your input on this issue is greatly appreciated. Off2riorob (talk) 23:51, 20 September 2010 (UTC)

Image licenses

I'm afraid it's more complicated than that. The museum got the image from somewhere. That somewhere is probably the original source. Only by knowing what that original source is can you be sure that the museum has not violated copyright by publishing the image on the web. The original might actually belong to the museum, and it might hold the copyright and might be willing to publish the image under a public-domain or other free license. Or the image might have been published somewhere else and might be old enough (published before 1923 in the U.S.) that it could be copied and published freely under a public-domain license. But just because something is published on the web does not make it freely available to re-publish in Wikipedia articles or to assign a public-domain license to it. Please see WP:IUP for details. Hope this helps. Finetooth (talk) 02:02, 22 September 2010 (UTC)

Looks like I may have to make a trip to the museum. Would asking around at the museum be considered original research? Because I know Wikipedia has a strict policy on no original research. The UtahraptorMy mistakes; I mean, er, contributions 02:25, 22 September 2010 (UTC)
It's fine to do original research; you just can't use it as a source. That is, you can't say in a license or in a citation that so-and-so at the museum told you something or other. The something-or-other could be very useful information, but your conversation itself as reported by you does not constitute a reliable source. What you need to ultimately find is the information that would make it possible for any reader to verify the license claims or other claims. What you learn at the museum could help you find that information. Finetooth (talk) 03:12, 22 September 2010 (UTC)
Alright, it looks like I'm going to have to plan a trip to southern Utah sometime. Thanks for the information. The UtahraptorMy mistakes; I mean, er, contributions 03:18, 22 September 2010 (UTC)

WikiProject American Old West and films

Hello, I noticed that you removed the WikiProject American Old West template from several film articles' talk pages. Are you doing this for all films with the American Old West as the setting? If so, would the films not be cultural representations of the Wild West? A film like The Searchers (film) seems like it should fall under the WikiProject. The WikiProject's own page even says, "Movies or television programs related to the American Old West." Erik (talk | contribs) 21:56, 30 September 2010 (UTC)

September 2010 Backlog Elimination Drive Conclusion

GOCE September 2010 backlog elimination drive progress graphs

Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors September 2010 Backlog Elimination Drive. Thanks to all who participated! Several of our top editors were called away to real life concerns during the month (be careful out there, people!). This meant that once again, we did not meet all our lofty targets, but we did come close.

Stats

  • Out of 76 registered editors, 45 actively participated.
  • We nearly wiped out the 2008 articles from the backlog—there were only 13 remaining when the drive closed.
  • We reduced the backlog by 725 articles (11.5%), so it was another successful drive.
  • A total of 59 barnstars will be awarded to 40 editors—well done, and congratulations to all.

Barnstars
If you copy edited at least 4,000 words, you qualify for a barnstar. If you edited in the July 2010 GOCE Backlog Elimination Drive, you may have earned rollover words, which counted towards this month's barnstars (except for the leaderboard awards). Any unused word credits will be held over for the next drive, as long as you participated in the September drive. Over the course of the next week or two, we will be handing out the barnstars. Click here to see a list of barnstar winners.

  • We will be holding our next drive in November. You can sign up here.

A huge "thank you" to all editors who helped clear the backlog and to others who helped out behind-the-scenes. See you at the next drive, and until then, please continue to help us work through the backlog. Happy editing!

AN/I comments

WP:AN/I can be a very difficult place, and it is, in my opinion, helpful to stay on target. If you are telling people essentially they shouldn't be posting there, try to make sure your own knowledge is accurate by simply reading the background first. For example, you could have first gone to WP:Twinkle and seen this statement:

"Be advised that you take full responsibility for any action performed using Twinkle. You must understand Wikipedia policies and use this tool within these policies, or risk losing access to the tool or being blocked."

And blocking is something that administrators do.

Great user name, by the way. --184.99.172.218 (talk) 17:36, 3 October 2010 (UTC)

November copy edit drive

Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors Backlog Elimination Drive!

The Wikipedia Guild of Copy-Editors invites you to participate in the November 2010 Backlog Elimination Drive, a month-long effort to reduce the backlog of articles that require copy-editing. The drive will begin on 1 November at 00:00 (UTC) and will end on 30 November at 23:59 (UTC). The goal for this drive is to reduce the backlog by 10% (approximately 500 articles). We hope to focus our efforts on the oldest three months (January, February, and March 2009) and the newest three months (September, October, and November 2010) of articles in the queue.

Sign-up has already begun at the November drive page, and will be open throughout the drive. If you have any questions or concerns, please leave a message on the drive's talk page.

Before you begin copy-editing, please carefully read the instructions on the main drive page. Please make sure that you know how to copy-edit, and be familiar with the Wikipedia Manual of Style.

Awards and barnstars

A range of barnstars will be awarded to active participants, some of which are exclusive to GOCE drives. More information on awards can be found on the main drive page.

Thank you; we look forward to meeting you on the drive!

Ulysses S. Grant GAN

The article is good and well written. One issue I believe that could come up is length. It has been trimmed down, however, the Civil War section may have to have its own article page. My goal is to have the main USG as a Featured Article as well as GA. I believe the world tour section could be a whole separate article. An abbreviated summary of his Civil War record would have to be written and the Civil War section in the article now could be its own separate section. I believe Grant could also have a separate article on the Mexican American War. Grant would have his own article; his presidency; presidential scandals; Mexican American War service; and World Tour. Another article that could stem from USG is his Memoirs. As far as the USG article I believe another attempt at good article should be made. Cmguy777 (talk) 23:34, 20 October 2010 (UTC)

Dang, I'm out of luck. ;) I have Qwest, and in addition to being pretty slow it crashes quite often. The UtahraptorTalk to me/Contributions 18:36, 23 October 2010 (UTC)
Probably you should be careful and make sure it doesn't crash. If it does, just go back to Huggle. Wayne Olajuwon chat 18:42, 23 October 2010 (UTC)
Alright, I'll put in the Igloo script as soon as I can. The UtahraptorTalk to me/Contributions 18:44, 23 October 2010 (UTC)

I did come accross this on your page which you havent really developed yet but would be very very interesting; How does the rate of vandalism vary throughout the day? Theres a geographic element to this I think which you might want to consider if you dive deeper with this question. Being in the europe right now I see high levels of vandalisim from european IPs in the morning (night time in North america). And while i was in North America a few years ago the same thing, high levels of vandalisim from North american Ips. So it might be interesting to categorise the origin of the vandalism attempt with the time observed to see if this truly is a pattern (if possible, though with accounts that cant be done). That might help answer the question on the rate of vandalism throughout the day. Anyway, very nice addition with keeping notes keep at it :), happy editing Ottawa4ever (talk) 15:57, 24 October 2010 (UTC)

Bullying

Note: for the context of this question, please see the question asked by Mkativerata at your own RfA

Hi there. Thank you very much for the welcome. Could you please help me with an argument I am in at Brisbane City Bulls? An administrator is bullying me, undoing all of my edits. He will not listen to my arguments and instead quotes policies out of context. I know full well that it is unlawful to make more than three reverts in a 24-hour period - I was blocked for doing so when I edited as an IP. As you are an administrator, can you block Mkativerata? He clearly made four reverts in about 10 minutes. --Broncos1988 (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 02:22, 28 October 2010 (UTC).

First of all, Broncos, Mkativerata is not bullying you. He is trying to help the encyclopedia by ensuring that information regarding Brisbane City Bulls' former CEO is properly sourced. Second, what Mkativerata is doing is not violating the 3RR. Per WP:3RR: "Removal of libelous, biased, unsourced, or poorly sourced contentious material that violates the policy on biographies of living persons (is not violating the 3RR). Third, a magazine is not usually considered a reliable source, as they can be filled with gossip. The UtahraptorTalk/Contribs 02:34, 28 October 2010 (UTC)

Your RFA

Hi. Feel free to disregard this given that I have opposed, but...

It seems as though one of the main things people are complaining about is lack of judgement/lack of clue. One of the key skills needed by admins is the ability to discern when a discussion or argument is fundamentally over and act accordingly. For that reason, I suggest that you withdraw your RFA. Editor review

Hi

Thanks for the comments ! Vandal fighting is something I haven't really gone in to in depth - apart from the odd weekly sojourn into the recent page watch, where it seems there are so many people watching that by the time I have looked in depth and replied (well given notice with Twinkle) someone has reverted them already with Huggle etc, and a few obvious ones from IPs on pages on my watch list. When I started again it seemed that there were plenty out there doing it for RfA purposes and many new editors seeming to concentrate on it I figured I would leave it till I had learnt a little more policy - still, I suppose the more the merrier lol.

Once again thanks for taking the time to review :¬) Chaosdruid (talk) 05:53, 12 November 2010 (UTC)

November 2010 backlog elimination drive update

Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors Backlog Elimination Drive!

GOCE November 2010 backlog elimination drive progress graphs

We have reached the midway point in our backlog elimination drive, so here is an update.

Participation report — The November drive has 53 participants at this point. We had 77 participants in the September drive. In July, 95 people signed up for the drive, and in May we had 36. If you are not participating, it is not too late to join!

Progress report — The drive is quite successful so far, as we have already almost reached our target of a 10% reduction in the number of articles in the backlog. We are doing very well at keeping our Requests page clear, as those articles count double for word count for this drive.

Please keep in mind the possibility of removing other tags when you are finished with an article. If the article no longer needs {{cleanup}}, {{wikify}}, or other similar maintenance tags, please remove them, as this will make the tasks of other WikiProjects easier to complete. Thanks very much for participating in the Drive, and see you at the finish line!

Reward Board Challenge

Utahraptor – after adding 3,600 bytes and 13 new sources/references, I have completed both tasks as put forth in your reward board challenge to drum up collaboration on Silver Reef, Utah. I only had a few missteps (which you gallantly fixed). It was (and is) a very interesting bit of Utah history to engross myself in for a while. NielsenGW (talk) 15:23, 22 November 2010 (UTC)

Amulet MS 5236

Hello The Utahraptor. Thanks for your efforts at copyediting the article. There are three points I'd like to discuss with you:

  • Even though the Greek text is legible on the whole (see transcription on the right), much of it remains incomprehensible due to grammatical and syntactical peculiarities, such as they were frequent in magical amulets, and some letter sequences cannot be made any sense of.

What I mean is quite simply that these grammatical and syntactical peculiarities occurred often with such magical amulets.

  • It is the existence of these fine double grooves on the gold lamella, which provides the key for identifying MS 5236 as being printed and not written; for it is a matter of mechanical necessity that the engraved letters with their raised double edges appear on the substrate as parallel, sunken lines when being printed, as can be observed on the amulet.

Actually, there is a causal relationship between the two sentences. The first gives the conclusion and the second provides the reason why. Perhaps we should rather use "since" than "for"?

  • Thus, the outline of the letters, as to be expected with a print, appear in the slightly more elevated regions of the sheet (darker areas in the photo) more distinct than in the slightly deeper regions (lighter areas) that were not affected by the full force of the stamp.

Only a minor point, but I'd like to keep the bold notes, at least one of them, to give the reader a better idea to read the lamella, since the idea that darker areas correlate with more elevated regions is counterintuitive.

What do you think? Gun Powder Ma (talk) 23:38, 22 November 2010 (UTC)

"What I mean is quite simply that these grammatical and syntactical peculiarities occurred often with such magical amulets."
From what I can tell, the quoted text from the article says pretty much the same thing, so there is no reason to change that.
Ok, I was just asking because you changed the wording above to "...such as their frequency in magical amulets...", which I found incomprehensible.
"Actually, there is a causal relationship between the two sentences. The first gives the conclusion and the second provides the reason why. Perhaps we should rather use 'since' than 'for'?"
The sentence "since it is a matter of mechanical necessity that the engraved letters with their raised double edges appear on the substrate as parallel, sunken lines when being printed, as can be observed on the amulet..." does not make sense to me. If you use the word since, such as in "Since you asked me this, I will respond," you must also provide an explanation for the independent clause starting with since, separating the independent clause and the explanation with a comma. If this doesn't make sense, forgive me; I'm not sure how to put it in a different way.
I believe, "as" would also do, but the sentence would get rather long. Difficult...
"Only a minor point, but I'd like to keep the bold notes, at least one of them, to give the reader a better idea to read the lamella, since the idea that darker areas correlate with more elevated regions is counterintuitive."
Don't remember why I even removed those. I'll put them back in the article.
Thanks

GOCE Drive – Final push

Greetings GOCE Backlog elimination drive participant, We are now coming up to the last few days of the drive, the last for 2010. Currently, it looks like we will achieve our target for reducing the backlog by 10%, however, we still have huge numbers for 2009. We have 55 participants in this drive. If everyone just clears 2 articles each, we will reduce the backlog by a further 110 articles. If everyone can just do 3 articles, we will hit 165. If you have yet to work on any articles and have rollover words, remember that you do need to copyedit at least a couple of articles in this drive for your previous rollover to be valid for the next drive. There are many very small articles that will take less than 5-10 minutes to copyedit. Use CatScan to find them. Let's all concentrate our firepower on the first three months of 2009 as we approach the end of this final drive for the year. Thank you once again for participating, and see you at the finish line! – SMasters (talk) 04:00, 25 November 2010 (UTC)

getting credit for copy-editing

I copy-edited an article and removed the template. Want to make sure the guild, the campaign, and I get credit. Honest, there is a huge block of text and many different pages, when one comes to the GoC page, and it's darned hard to figure out the basics, like how to "officially" take stuff out of the queue. TCO (talk) 00:32, 30 November 2010 (UTC)

Actually, removing the {{copyedit}} tag will take it right out of the queue. When you finish a copy edit, add it to your name under the totals section. (You did remember to add your name to the totals section, correct?) The UtahraptorTalk/Contribs 01:10, 30 November 2010 (UTC)

I'm stupid or the directions are hard. Probably both.  ;) Just added myself to the list of participants in the drive (as opposed to Guild) and added the total template thingie in. Now, will go off and figure out how to get credit for my baton.

P.s. Do you guys just fix commas and stuff or actually restructure articles that are messes?

TCO (talk) 01:26, 30 November 2010 (UTC)

When we copy edit articles, we fix grammar mistakes and we also do a few maintenance tasks, such as adding infoboxes and links to other articles. The UtahraptorTalk/Contribs 01:35, 30 November 2010 (UTC)

OK. I added my article into the total, with the wordcount and all. It is not showing me having done one article though. Why not? P.s. I just used MS Word to do the count. TCO (talk) 02:13, 30 November 2010 (UTC)

I've added your numbers in. You have to add those in manually, as well. The UtahraptorTalk/Contribs 02:18, 30 November 2010 (UTC)

OK, thanks. Heck, I'm practically up to speed now. Thought about manually adding them, but wasn't sure if it should update. Also wasn't sure if review had to happen first. Anyway, lost my ce virginity. TCO (talk) 02:22, 30 November 2010 (UTC)

November 2010 Backlog Elimination Drive Conclusion

Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors Backlog Elimination Drive!

We have reached the end of our fourth backlog elimination drive. Thanks to all who participated.

Stats

GOCE November 2010 backlog elimination drive graphs
  • 58 people signed up for this drive. Of these, 48 people participated in the drive.
  • Although we did not eliminate the months we planned to (January, February, and March 2009; and August, September, and October 2010), we did reduce the backlog by 627 articles (11.2%), which was over our goal of 10%.
  • 49 awards will go out to 33 of 48 participants. Check out the complete list of barnstar winners here.

Barnstars

If you copy edited at least 4,000 words, you qualify for a barnstar. If you participated in the September 2010 backlog elimination drive, you may have earned roll-over words (more details can be found here). These roll-over words count as credit towards earning barnstars, except for leaderboard awards. We will be delivering these barnstars within the next couple of weeks.

Our next drive is scheduled for January 2011. In the meantime, please consider helping out at the Wikification drive or any of the other places where help with backlogs is needed.

Thank you for participating in the last 2010 backlog elimination drive! We look forward to seeing you in January!

Seriously thank you so much. The major issue at the moment is the music video's synopsis. Once that's been copy-edited and made more succinct I think the article will pass. I'm going to do a new introduction once the rest is finished. But all it needed was the copy edit and the music video synopsis re-writing really. If you're interested on collaborating in the future I could certainly use your copy editing talents in the future. =) I'm good at finding relevant information to add but then fall down with the prose quality. -- Lil_℧niquℇ №1 | talk2me 01:17, 14 December 2010 (UTC)
Once I'm finished with the copy edit I'll take care of the rest of the issues addressed by the GA reviewer, then hopefully the article will pass. I would be glad to work with you in the future. Please feel free to contact me if you need a copy editor. The UtahraptorTalk/Contribs 01:23, 14 December 2010 (UTC)
Much appreciated. Once you've done I'll get back to the article, there are a few other things I'll need to address etc. Thanks for the offer to copy edit... I will defo remember that. Can I ask, how did you come across the article? and... are you a Kelly Rowland? (semi-retirement has led to re-prioritisation of what I can physically achieve on wikipedia but GAs are always my priorities). -- Lil_℧niquℇ №1 | talk2me 01:45, 14 December 2010 (UTC)
I was looking for a Good article candidate to work on, and I recognized the name of the song. I've finished my initial copy edit, so give me a little time to go over the article again and fix the mistakes I may have missed. The UtahraptorTalk/Contribs 01:49, 14 December 2010 (UTC)
I've finished copy editing the article. Please let me know if there's anything else I can do to help. The UtahraptorTalk/Contribs 02:17, 14 December 2010 (UTC)

Nice work on RCG, I have passed the article now. Adabow (talk · contribs) 03:30, 14 December 2010 (UTC)

Hi Utaphraptor, how are you? I've begun work clarifying and re-writing Grown Woman. Its the next single after RCG so naturally I thought it could be done next. I dont think there's much wrong with it but I've nominated it for WP:GA. If you have chance could you give it a quick read-through for any obvious prose errors that would be much appreciated. -- Lil_℧niquℇ №1 | talk2me 22:44, 16 December 2010 (UTC)
I'll take a look at it when I get the chance. The UtahraptorTalk/Contribs 23:08, 16 December 2010 (UTC)
Thank you very much. I think that one was any easy one. There wasn't much to be done! =) The final one (in the series for now) is Forever and a Day (Kelly Rowland song) which i fear needs a lot of work. If you can make any suggestions that would be brilliant. In the meantime i'm going to begin working on it... I'm nominating it in a short while... -- Lil_℧niquℇ №1 | talk2me 15:00, 18 December 2010 (UTC)
Alright. Let me know when you're done so I can copy edit the article. The UtahraptorTalk/Contribs 15:02, 18 December 2010 (UTC)

Just passed your your article! Great work--Blackjacks101 (talk) 14:26, 19 December 2010 (UTC)

I too can't thank you enough for all your help. If you are interested I've recently nominated When Love Takes Over (a related article) for WP:Peer review at Wikipedia:Peer review/When Love Takes Over/archive1‎. The idea of the review is to get the article ready for review to see if it meets featured article status. If you could take a look it would be much appreciated. I've based the article, as much as possible, on 4 Minutes (Madonna song). -- Lil_℧niquℇ №1 | (talk) 19:54, 19 December 2010 (UTC)

Thank you! I'm currently working on another Good article candidate, but I'll see what I can do when I get the time. The UtahraptorTalk/Contribs 19:58, 19 December 2010 (UTC)

Silver Reef, Utah

I'm looking at it again now and fixing a few things. I used a script to replace the hyphens in page ranges and date ranges, and I corrected the publisher's name in a couple of the citations. Utah's Dixie History (citation 15) looks to me like a tourist or real-estate group and not a reliable source per WP:RS. Generally travel sites or other commercial sites (usually dot-coms) are not reliable for meeting WP:RS and therefore WP:V. Some dot-coms are OK, and some may be reliable for some kinds of information but not others. It's always best to replace the weak (unvetted, unedited, unsigned) sources with strong ones if you can possibly find them. Dixie History is one I'd advise finding a substitute for. Woodworkers Auction (citation 16) is another; it looks to me like a personal web site. Utah Travel Center (citation 17) is another. The Gary B. Speck source (citation 19) looks like another personal web site. Utah.com, another travel site (citation 30) is another. You could just delete citation 30 since the claims are supported by two other citations, and they are not controversial claims. Citation 4 is to a real-estate site, not a reliable source. Please read WP:RS again and begin making a distinction between "published sources with a reputation for fact-checking and accuracy" and those, like blogs, self-published material, and many commercial sites, that are not likely to have professional fact-checkers and editors examining their claims for accuracy. Finetooth (talk) 02:54, 20 December 2010 (UTC)

I already know that those sites are unreliable, I just haven't gotten a chance to replace them yet. The only one I'd have to disagree with is the Gary Speck one. See WP:RSN#Reliable source? According to several editors, the site isn't the best, but it's suitable. Thanks for the information. I'll find some replacement sources when I get the time. The UtahraptorTalk/Contribs 03:02, 20 December 2010 (UTC)
Some of the paragraphs are only partly sourced. For example, the first part of the first paragraph of the "Geology and geography" section is sourced, but the last two sentences are not. They are: "Silver Reef was built on the same sedimentary bedrock as St. George: Jurassic-, Triassic-, and Permian-aged. The area's soil and rocks are red from iron oxide. Dinosaur tracks from the early Jurassic Period can be found in the area." Since these two sentences contain technical information that is not common knowledge, they need to be supported by a reliable source or sources. Who says St. George is built on sedimentary bedrock of those particular ages? Who says the soil and rocks contain iron oxide, which gives them their red color? Who says there are dinosaur tracks in the area? All these things may be perfectly true, but they aren't verifiable per WP:V without a source. Finetooth (talk) 03:05, 20 December 2010 (UTC)
I read the information about the bedrock on this article, but I assumed it was true. I've removed it since it was an assumption and might not be true. I've kept the dinosaur track information, since it's sourced later in the article. I've added the source to the geology and geography section. The UtahraptorTalk/Contribs 03:10, 20 December 2010 (UTC)
I've taken care of some of the reference problems, and I'll look for sources for the rest of them when I get the time. I know there are usable sources at my library, so I'll stop by there tomorrow and see what I can find. The UtahraptorTalk/Contribs 03:34, 20 December 2010 (UTC)

RE: Message from WikiProject Guild of Copy Editors

I think you should see the message where the editors seem to WP:OWN the article and refuse any work thereof. Im trying to discuss with them however if they abjectly refuse i will move on the article and other options thereof.

the issue is different from the tips you suggested.(Lihaas (talk) 12:30, 22 December 2010 (UTC)).
The issue was that Fae was saying that your copy editing skills are not up to a certain standard. I'm not saying that you are a poor copy editor, I'm simply saying that your skills could use a bit of sharpening. Please see User talk:SMasters#Lihaas for further information. Also take a look at this discussion, and let me know when you're up to speed on the situation. The UtahraptorTalk/Contribs 19:52, 22 December 2010 (UTC)
yall run a whole consensus debate hearing the whims of fae? he has WP:OWN issues and refused to discuss. He is clearly venting his steam.
Anyhoo, fuck it.
and well, anwyays, i dont know how to get my name of hat shit, but your welcome to take me off.Lihaas (talk) 12:30, 22 December 2010 (UTC)

Same for me. I am not artistic enough to draw my own Christmas tree for you; to take someone else's picture and pretend it is mine is not good. Wikipedia Ambassador Program is looking for new Online Ambassadors

Hi Utahraptor! I noticed your activity as a Good Article reviewer, and wanted to let you know about the Wikipedia Ambassador Program, and specifically the role of Online Ambassador. We're looking for friendly Wikipedians who are good at reviewing articles and giving feedback to serve as mentors for students who are assigned to write for Wikipedia in their classes.

If you're interested, I encourage you to take a look at the Online Ambassador guidelines; the "mentorship process" describes roughly what will be expected of mentors in the coming term. If that's something you want to do, please apply!

You can find instructions for applying at WP:ONLINE. The main things we're looking for in Online Ambassadors are friendliness, regular activity (since mentorship is a commitment that spans several months), and the ability to give detailed, substantive feedback on articles (both short new articles, and longer, more mature ones).

I hope to hear from you soon.--Sage Ross - Online Facilitator, Wikimedia Foundation (talk) 21:16, 27 December 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for considering me. I'll look into it. The UtahraptorTalk/Contribs 21:24, 27 December 2010 (UTC)
