Reply: I've inserted multiple references and feel like i'm being discriminated against out of bias. There's a lot of references in there and I read the requirements and I feel that the ones that I provided meet the standards as written by Wikipedia.

I've placed multiple references in this and I feel like I'm being dismissed out of bias

I tried to have my public figure account created and I worry about bias on account of the people disapproving it, edit

I keep getting messages saying my sources are inadequate and I have tons of references. I feel like I'm being dismissed because I'm an activist and an atheist.

  • Having a ton of references is not what is required for encyclopedic sources, being independent and reliable. If you read the decline notices information maybe you would understand rather than seeing bias where there is none. See Wikipedia:Notability (people) for what is required. KylieTastic (talk) 10:51, 15 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

The sources provided are independent and not just passing mentions. Am I somehow confused by what the criteria required is?

May 2020 edit

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. We appreciate your contributions; however, it appears you may have written a Wikipedia article about yourself, at Draft:Daniel Fisk Bennett. Creating an autobiography is strongly discouraged – please see our guideline on writing autobiographies. If you create such an article, it may be deleted. If what you have done in life is genuinely notable and can be verified according to our policy for articles about living people, someone else will probably create an article about you sooner or later (see Wikipedians with articles). If you wish to add to or change an existing article about yourself, you are welcome to propose the changes by visiting the article's talk page. Please understand that this is an encyclopedia and not a personal web space or social networking site. If your article has already been deleted, please see: Why was the page I created deleted?, and if you feel the deletion was an error, please discuss this with the deleting administrator. I assume because your saying "I" and "My" this is about you. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia about notable subjects, it is not social media for people to write about themselves KylieTastic (talk) 10:45, 15 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

Reply: The sources that I have provided are independent and verifiable. I read the requirements and I don't see what the problem is... I've faced a lot of bias whenever I try accomplishing a task to it's something I'm used to seeing; hence why I am concerned by it.

I'm brand new here and just learning how to use this and I have just been bombarded by people and it's really unfriendly to new people starting out. ThePoliticalAtheist (talk) 12:11, 15 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

This page should not be speedily deleted because... (your reason here) --ThePoliticalAtheist (talk) 11:51, 15 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

I feel like someone doesn't like me here and my have a philosophical disagreement with me.

Dude, please read Wikipedia is not about YOU. At this point you've been warned about writing about yourself and explained to in depth about how notability and sourcing works. GPL93 (talk) 11:56, 15 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

Ok, fine... But why was now my account being flagged for deletion? I stopped arguing after someone made it clear to me. Now you want to delete my account that I made? I'm brand new to this and this isn't a very welcoming environment to people that just started out if this is how it's going to be. ThePoliticalAtheist (talk) 11:58, 15 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

We actually don't delete accounts. If you read the notice it is a violation of WP:NOTWEBHOST. Although a lot of freedom is allowed in personalizing your user page, it is not:

The user page guidelines have additional information on what is and what is not considered acceptable content. Best, GPL93 (talk) 12:03, 15 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

Kind of a slap in the face to people who want to participate if you ask me. ThePoliticalAtheist (talk) 11:59, 15 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

Wait, so I cannot use my personal profile page as a reference material to who I am? ThePoliticalAtheist (talk) 12:06, 15 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

Think of it as an icebreaker to other editors (I'm X, I do Y for a career, I went Z school, I am interested in Q topics, etc). GPL93 (talk) 12:20, 15 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

But that's what I thought I had on my personal profile. Now I'm even more confused... ThePoliticalAtheist (talk) 12:21, 15 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

I need to go to bed, honestly I'm hoping that my profile is still here when I wake up. But if not I'm just not going to donate to Wikipedia anymore. This experience has been ruthless. ThePoliticalAtheist (talk) 12:22, 15 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

I am sorry to say this but your user page likely won't survive as in its current form. I understand that it is a lot of information to process and I know that in general the notices are terse to say the least but unfortunately they were developed over the years due to combat rampant promotionalism on the platform. Somewhere along the line having a Wikipedia line was seen as a matter of prestige and individuals, companies and PR/Marketing firms saw Wikipedia as a means of boosting online presence and the notices were designed more to confront that issue more so than someone who does not meet that criteria. In terms of meeting the guidelines, my best advice is don't model it to look like an actual article and to abstain from adding links to personal pages. Although others do refer to themselves in the third person, I have found it helps to talk in the first. You may also find the use of userboxes helpful to describe yourself. We have them for editors to express themselves in pretty much any area, including religion (specifically in your case Irreligion, to describe one's military service, to tell people where you are from, and what your political beliefs are, just to name a few areas. I'm sure this probably isn't the answer you were looking for but I hope it does give you some clarifications. Best, GPL93 (talk) 13:13, 15 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

Maybe it's just my experience but ... edit

I just started out here and made the mistake of thinking I could make a Wikipedia page for myself with all the stuff I'm involved with. Ok, my mistake. But now after just starting out here, I got nothing but flack and now my account just got flagged for removal. Not really a welcoming first experience or reason to continue to donate to Wikipedia if that's how it's going to be. I know this is an airing of grievances but it's my experience after just showing up as a REAL person, not a bot, not trying to be a spammer. I'm sorry I didn't understand the whole ropes after just showing up. But how vicious people here are was very striking. ThePoliticalAtheist (talk) 12:04, 15 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

Contested deletion edit

This page should not be speedily deleted because... ( I am literally just starting out here trying to figure out how to navigate this and I have been constantly bombarded. I made a mistake at the beginning and I own up to it for misunderstanding what Wikipedia really was all about. But since then it has been absolutely relentless. The learning curve here is beyond anything for someone who is just starting out with good intentions. I am a real person, my name is Daniel Fisk Bennett. I am not here to spam or cause problems. But what I have encountered is nothing but people causing problems for me. I admit that I have been a little on edge and suspicious of intention but after some things were explained to me I understood. But since then it seems like I have been bombarded even more so and now my account just got flagged after only having it for less than 4 hours. I mean it is absolutely striking to see how vicious this format can be. I've donated to Wikipedia, but after this experience, I think I might not anymore. But I'm still open to it, but it's waivering. I'm trying to learn how to do this, I am brand new, I don't think I could say that enough. But how relentless some of the people here are is absolutely mind-blowing. It is almost worse than a Reddit forum.) --ThePoliticalAtheist (talk) 12:20, 15 May 2020 (UTC)Reply
