Welcome!

Hello, StefanWirz, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are a few good links for newcomers:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or place {{helpme}} on your talk page and someone will show up shortly to answer your questions. Again, welcome!

In particular, I'm very impressed with your article on Blue Goose Records. Good work; I've removed the "notability?" tag. DS 14:33, 7 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

Welcome edit

Really nice Takoma page, even if you don't want it on the wiki entry! Now that you're here, any chance you could cast an expert eye over the John Fahey and American Primitivism pages? Felix-felix 21:27, 7 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

Pitchford edit

Though I don't see the reasoning of trying to make a page un-viewable to a certain sector of people, I thank you for explaning the URL specifics to me. I did notice that your Wikipedia name is the same as the name of the person who made the discography (you), and I think it's great that an expert like you is working here. Lonnie Pitchford was one of my all time favorites and I'm sorry I never got to see him live (though I've seen him in the several films I've added to the article). By the way, your English is at 95% or more intelligibility for native speakers, in my opinion. Happy editing, Badagnani 08:51, 8 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

So Glad to See You Here, Stefan! edit

Hello, and thanks for all your work at your own site, and now here. I noticed your addition of the label image to the Rabbit Brown page. That was a nice touch. I hope you stick around and add more information to the many blues, gospel, and jug band pages in the Wikipedia. Yours in blues solidarity, Catherineyronwode 23:32, 9 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

Just seconding the comments. As the blues neophyte who started Kokomo Arnold and Scrapper Blackwell, it's great to see a contributor with more than casual knowledge. Also as a Wikipedian who plays close attention to the attribution of images, I was really impressed with your site. Cheers, BanyanTree 21:17, 10 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

Samuel Charters edit

Dear Stefan, I've just created a page on Samuel Charters, someone whose work I admire very much. I've learned more about him after listening to the audio interview. I presume you know more about him, maybe you even know him in person as he might still live in Europe. If you'd like to add anything to the article it would be great. link to British edit

Hello, when you want to link to the article about something British, please do not link to British, as that is a disambiguation page (which nothing should be linked to). Instead link to the one of the options found on that page such as United Kingdom or Great Britain by writing out [[United Kingdom|British]] or [[Great Britain|British]]. Article about Wikipedia Users edit

Hello,

Wikipedia user David Badagnani directed me to your user page. I am a freelance writer working on an article about the wide array of people who make Wikipedia their life, their passion, their pastime. Wikipedia “addicts” if you will. I’m looking for people just willing to tell their story of how they got sucked into the intellectual whirlwind that is Wikipedia; how you got started editing, how the obsession grew, and what you spend your time focusing on these days? Do you write articles from scratch? Is your main push toward one particular type of article? Do you patrol for typos and errors, or spend your time diligently fixing vandalism? Do you take part in the “social aspects” of Wikipedia; engaging in animated discussions or decorating your user page with all sorts of internet memes? Have you ever forced yourself to take a “Wikipedia break”? If so, what’s your 20/20 hindsight on the obsession? Basically I’m just trying to get an idea of what it’s like for various Wikipedia “addicts.” If you are interested in participating, please email me at brianwrites@gmail.com

If anybody else, other than this user is interested in participating, feel free to email me as well. This article is intended to be a light informational piece, nothing too heavy or controversial, just merely introducing readers to a subculture that they likely had no idea existed. So please don’t email me with your conspiracy theories, or your grudge against the Wikipedia hierarchy… unless it directly applies to your overall experience with the site. This article is about the USERS, not about the pros and cons of the site itself.

Thanks,

Snooky Pryor edit

I recently removed an image you placed in the article Snooky Pryor due to a violation with WP:FU. It states that album covers can only be used as critical commentary on articles dealing specifially with the album in question. I just wanted to let you know about this and that if you have any questions, feel free to ask. Cheers! -- moe.RON Let's talk | done 23:55, 10 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

If you must do that ... Regarding edits made to Arvella Gray edit

Thank you for contributing to Wikipedia, StefanWirz! However, your edit here was reverted by an automated bot that attempts to remove spam from Wikipedia. If you were trying to insert a good link, please accept my creator's apologies, but note that the link you added, matching rule \.photobucket\.com\/, is on my list of links to remove and probably shouldn't be included in Wikipedia. Please read Wikipedia's external links policy for more information. If the link was to an image, please read Wikipedia's image tutorial on how to use a more appropriate method to insert the image into an article. If your link was intended to promote a site you own, are affiliated with, or will make money from inclusion in Wikipedia, please note that inserting spam into Wikipedia is against policy. Shadowbot edit

I made the revert to correct the damage done to the article. Shadowbot has Imageshack on its blacklist for a reason; if an image is necessary, then users should use Special:Upload to upload the image rather than linking to it. Shadow1 (talk) 19:14, 29 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Spivey Records edit

Hi Stefan, I was delighted to notice that a blues scholar is also contributing his expertise to Wikipedia. I recently made some edits on the Spivey Records page. I was surprised that another editor, John Nagle, posted a warning that the entry read more like an advertisement, and he seems to advocate merging Spivey Records with Victoria Spivey page on the grounds that the label is not noteworthy. I like the entry because I bought various Spivey Records in the 1960 and 1970s, and liked the music and the home-made look of the graphics. As you know, it's best to provide verifiable facts that contribute to the entry being regarded as noteworthy. You can read what Nagle wrote, and my response here [1]. If you have any thoughts about facts or events in history of Spivey Records that you can link to authoritative book or web site, I'd appreciate your input. Of course I don't want to inflate the significance of Spivey Records beyond what it is, an interesting small blues label. Best wishes (mit herzlichen Grüßen) Mick gold (talk) 07:01, 18 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:BlueGooseInnerSleeve.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading Image:BlueGooseInnerSleeve.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 04:26, 12 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Pink Anderson.jpg edit

Thank you for uploading Image:Pink Anderson.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this image under "fair use" may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the image description page and add or clarify the reason why the image qualifies for fair use. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a fair use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for images used under the fair use policy require both a copyright tag and a fair use rationale.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it might be deleted by adminstrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 16:30, 8 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Credibility Gap photo edit

Thanks for posting an improved photo of the original lineup of The Credibility Gap at File:Credgapppback.jpg. So if you'd like to see more resolution, might you please try again? Thanks, DougHill (talk) 19:49, 18 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the hint - must have been my madness to produce pics with a 'round' number of pixels (e.g. 400x...), and then 'sharpen' that pic without sense and reason ;-) Just uploaded a new one: 394x275 pixel, but without overpixellation - hope you like it better !!! An article you created is about to be deleted: Tools which can help you edit

The article you created, The_Post_War_Blues is about to be deleted from Wikipedia.

There is an ongoing debate about whether your article should be deleted here:

The faster your respond, the better chance the article you created can be saved. This is because deletion debates only stay open for a few days, and the first comments are usually the most important.

There are several tools and other editors who can help you keep the page from being deleted forever:

  1. You can list the page up for deletion on Article Rescue Squadron. If you need help listing your page, add a comment on the Article Rescue Squadron talk page.
  2. You can request a mentor to help explain to you all of the complex rules that editors use to get a page deleted, here: Wikipedia:Adopt-a-User. But don't wait for a mentor to respond on the deletion page.
  3. When try to delete a page, veteran editors love to use a lot of rule acronyms. Don't let these acronyms intimidate you.
Here is a list of your own acronyms you can use yourself: WP:Deletion debate acronyms which may support the page you created being kept.
Acronyms in deletion debates are sometimes incorrectly used, or ignore rules or exceptions.
  4. You can merge the article into a larger article.

If your page is deleted, you still have many options available. Good luck! travb (talk) 18:59, 29 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

Proposed deletion of Pandora Gibson edit

The article Pandora Gibson has been proposed for deletion because under Wikipedia policy, all biographies of living persons created after March 18, 2010, must have at least one source that directly supports material in the article.

If you created the article, please don't take offense. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Wikipedia:Referencing for beginners or ask at Wikipedia:Help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. If you cannot provide such a source within ten days, the article may be deleted, but you can request that it be undeleted when you are ready to add one. Speedy deletion nomination of Country Turtle Records edit

A tag has been placed on Country Turtle Records requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about an organization or company, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for organizations and companies. You may also wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles - see the Article Wizard.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag - if no such tag exists then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hangon tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you.   ArcAngel   (talk) ) 18:27, 24 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

Cat Iron edit

Although a website from Germany says "'Cat Iron' is not an actual nickname, but a mishearing of his surname", if he is called "Cat Iron" then a native English speaker would consider that his nickname. In short, I'm suggesting the source is wrong. Maybe in German a nickname derived from the sound of someone's surname has a special term? In English, however, we make no distinction in this regard. How about we move that statement to a footnote so we can properly explaiin where it comes from? --John Stephen Dwyer (talk) 22:07, 24 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Hi John Stephen, thanks for your proposal, but you might have overseen that the reference I added isn't "from a German website", but from a British blues magazine ("Blues World" 43, 1972): http://www.wirz.de/music/catiron/grafik/bw4.jpg (scanned and shown at this German website). Proposed deletion of Blues Beacon Records edit

The article Blues Beacon Records has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. Landscape architecture taskforce? edit

Hi Stefan, would be great to hear your opinion about a new proposal at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Architecture#Landscape architecture taskforce? --ELEKHHT 02:43, 9 August 2015 (UTC)Reply

Find this an interesting proposal, but won't myself participate in the 'task force', 'cause since retiring in April 2014 this chapter of my life is now 'closed' and musical interests took over completely! Keep on keepin' on :-) StefanWirz (talk) 07:39, 9 August 2015 (UTC)Reply

Early blues and gospel blues edit

Hi, Stefan! I'm delighted to learn that you are a Wikipedia editor – your website is an invaluable resource!
I'm currently writing up all Washington Phillips' songs as Wiki articles. The article on him is a work in progress – the biography was in a dreadful state; and the "Cultural legacy" section is still a mess, full of random information which belongs under the individual songs. I don't plan to touch it until Category:Washington Phillips songs is complete – but, that section really does need rewriting.
BTW I don't think your Wiki revert reinstated any information which I'd deleted from the Wiki article on "Wash" Phillips – it should all still be there, in the main text.
You'll recognise two of the pictures of singles labels in this article – which as you can imagine, took a bit of research.
Two recent articles of mine which you might find of interest – A. C. and Mamie Forehand and Luther Magby.

Earl King and Pearl King edit

I'd always thought, and read, that "Pearl King" - a co-writer on some of Dave Bartholomew's songs - was a pseudonym of Earl King, and I've edited his article accordingly. But, I've just discovered this book (p.40), which says that Pearl King was Dave Bartholomew's wife. This seems to be confirmed by online directories that I can access via Ancestry.com, that give Dave L. and Pearl K. Bartholomew living in Robert Street, New Orleans, in 1960. There seems to be some confusion! Can you shed any light on this? Thanks. Ghmyrtle (talk) 09:50, 4 September 2015 (UTC)Reply

ArbCom elections are now open! edit

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. I'm sure you heard this before edit

Anyways, big thanks for your thorough discography work on numerous blues and folk musicians. I especially appreciate the fact you did not overlook lesser-known musicians and I feel a major part of your intent was to revive people's interests in their music. If it wasn't for you, there is no way I would have ever heard of or written articles on Woodrow Adams, Eddie "One String" Jones, and (an artist I'm particularly fond of) Blind Connie Williams. You may be humble about it, but I want to praise you for playing your role in preserving an important piece in music history. So, again, many thanks and best of luck.TheGracefulSlick (talk) 16:59, 4 December 2015 (UTC)Reply

Jimmie Gordon edit

Hello again Stefan, I was wondering if you could help me. The above article is in my sandbox (I sort of "nicked him" from the German Wikipedia article). Apart from the information I have managed to garner, the question of his birth and death details seem difficult to track down. User:Ghmyrtle suggested you might have come across this Chicago blues chap at some point in your research. Any assistance would be appreciated. Best wishes for the forthcoming season,
