Regarding Gerald's ban status... edit

Does this qualify for Gerald Gonzalez's formal revocation from editing Wikipedia?

Attempts to coerce actions of users through threats of actions outside the Wikipedia processes, whether onsite or offsite, are grounds for immediate banning.

He did that to me and other users, including Spellcast and Urumpe, where he used derogatory words and flaming against the two. Any thoughts on this? Blake Gripling (talk) 01:08, 2 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

It can be a ground for revocation, but remember that Wikipedia does not ban users for the sake of banning but rather "to protect Wikipedia". Perhaps you can relay your message to one of our Pinoy admins like Lenticel for a second opinion. Thanks! Starczamora (talk) 01:33, 2 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Anorexia billboard.jpg) edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Anorexia billboard.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. from --Geniusdream (talk) 07:12, 29 October 2008 (UTC) edit

The introduction was made that way since the succeeding contents is long enough to be summarized the version it is before your edits. Moreover, you need to read the contents of the introduction before you remove it all, because it a generalized version rather than the very detailed parts of the article next to the introduction. Regarding the commercial endorsements, it is part of being a celebrity, and it is just some of the most notable, so that readers will easily recall her or recognize her. --Geniusdream (talk) 07:12, 29 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

We reverted it because it's too long. The rest of the article, although long, is sufficient enough, and the lead intro should be kept as is. Any more and you might be blocked again for edit warring. Blake Gripling (talk) 08:21, 29 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Image copyright problem with Image:Wilyonaryo.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Wilyonaryo.jpg. You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Wikipedia's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for each article the image is used in.
  • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

Starczamora is Immature old man edit

Excuse me but Its really just normal to improved many articles including Filipino related articles including actors, film, tv series ect. About Angel Locsin, well she's famous and many loves her, well theres no doubt that many wikipedians are interested to make her article good, but only you is against her, well i dont care. If my works are the same or related to your boyfriend, i mean to a sock you suspect that its me, well i dont really dont know about that. It just only happened because i'm a celebrity fanatic who wants to edit showbiz related articles. And dont tell to everybody that my uploaded images were copybio because its really my own work and you have no right to say it because you have no proff. Excuse me Starczamora but i never harassed you? huh! And I'm not that wikipedian to harrased to a fanboy and a desperate wikipedian who hate my cousin, Angel Locsin too much. I've mensioned that Im a cousin of Locsin which is true and why are you complaining, are you only just insecure or envious with me? I also put sock tag on your userpage because you deserve it, you almost put sock tags 7 times on my userpage. Because you're blaming me as a sock which is not true. And last I'm not totally immature, im just immature to the animal i mean person who's most immature wikipedian. Ive ever known. Wynchard Bloom contact meMy work 01:51, 21 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Assessment tagging edit

Hi. Please do not tag all of the articles in the worklist. As I always repeatedly say, not all articles in the worklist deserve the Tambay project banner, otherwise, I'd have done the job via a bot myself. For example, you tagged Alenia Aermacchi M-311, but a cursory look at the article shows that it's not related to the Philippines (and your edit there was promptly reverted). The worklists I created are generated via categories, but the categories may be incorrect. That's why the tagging requires human intervention. Also, please try to add the class and importance parameters. --seav (talk) 05:58, 2 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

Sorry for that minor lapse, but if you may have observed I skipped tagging a few articles. Starczamora (talk) 14:50, 2 December 2008 (UTC)Reply
I apologize for highlighting your lapse. The talk message above should've been sufficient. Anyway, I've removed the note from the worklist; I shouldn't have put it there in the first place. --seav (talk) 18:36, 2 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

Pictures on User: pages edit

I noticed you removed a free-image picture from a User page, with the edit summary "rmv jenniylyn photo; it is not the image of the user."

I know most of Wikipedia's rules but I don't recall reading that one. I agree, such practice should be discouraged, especially when it's deceptive, but I don't see it in any of the rules. If it is a rule, please cure my ignorance. If it's not, consider undoing your edit and whipping the user on his user talk page with the wet noodle he deserves.

Also, if it's not a rule that you can't have these pictures on your user page, consider writing a "user essay" describing what you think is and is not good practice for user-page content. If it catches on and people cite it when talking to users with problematic user-page content, it can be moved to a regular, Wikipedia essay later. davidwr/(talk)/(contribs)/(e-mail) 14:23, 29 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

Replaceable fair use Image:Mau Marcelo Music Video.JPG edit

Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:Mau Marcelo Music Video.JPG. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Stifle (talk) 20:23, 26 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Hey Starczamora edit

I just gave you rollback. Please have a look over WP:ROLLBACK before using it, but the main thing to remember is that it's only to be used for really obvious vandalism and not in content disputes and such. Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Takebycars01.JPG edit

Thank you for uploading File:Takebycars01.JPG. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. Replaceable fair use Image:MonaLisa.jpg edit

Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:MonaLisa.jpg.

Thank you. Aspects (talk) 03:53, 17 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

Noynoying edit

Good to see you're working on making NoyNoying adhere to NPOV. Lotsa work to be done, and I can only offer limited help, so I'm going to express my appreciation here now and see if I can help out further. :D Whew, you sure get into a lot of controversies, don't you? :D - Alternativity (talk) 06:51, 22 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

You're welcome! I really do not plan on editing the article, but I could not help it. Starczamora (talk) 06:58, 22 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for finding the time to go through my contribution to the term "Noynoying." I used to actively edit for Wikipedia, but for some reasons, I am unable to log-in to my old account. And I'm still struggling with this Wikipedia mark-up.

That aside, I think we should reconsider putting back in the definition portion Mar's alternate definition of Noynoying, for the simple reason that it is an offered definition. It is not a usual reaction from sectors, who merely proposes sentiments and feeling about the word. I know we have been talking about NPOV, but in reality, we cannot be neutral not objective. Journ ethics professors would attest to this. But what we can be is to be fair. And fairness, especially if a name of a leader of a country is involved demands that we put a space, no matter how small, for alternate meanings to something that is, as wikipedia terms it, a "protest gimmick." Fair space in correct space is how we can start to be neutral. totenggaleng (talk) 08:59, 28 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

Although the article struggles to keep it as neutral as possible, there are several issues in putting the Mar Roxas definition of Noynoying:
1) That before Mar Roxas shared his definitions, other columnists also wrote their own "definitions" of Noynoying apart from what was introduced during the protests, both favorable and unfavorable of President Aquino. All of them are already included in the Reception section, but since you want to add Mar Roxas' alternate definition in the lead, should we might as well as theirs as well?
2) Wikipedia is not a dictionary, so I believe we cannot add the "alternate" definition simply because it is offered more recently.
It would be much better to add your responses to the talk section of Noynoying so other editors will contribute to the discussion. Thank you. Starczamora (talk) 02:35, 28 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

Proposed blackout in protest of RA 10175 edit

Dear Starczamora,

Greetings!

As a Filipino Wikipedian, I hope you are aware of the passage of Republic Act No. 10175, also known as the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012, which was signed into law by President Benigno Aquino III on September 12, 2012. Currently, there is a discussion on the Tambayan, the noticeboard for Philippines-related topics, about a proposed blackout of the English Wikipedia in the Philippines in order to protest the passage of RA 10175, similar to the blackout against SOPA and PIPA held earlier this year. I feel that your input on the subject will definitely help in the discussion.

Please feel free to participate in the discussion at Wikipedia talk:Tambayan Philippines#The Cybercrime Prevention Act, and I hope your input will help the Filipino Wikipedia community determine which is the best course of action against this law. Similarly, we hope to get as much input from as many Wikipedians as possible.

Thank you and maraming salamat po!

Kind regards,

File permission problem with File:Jan Nieto Philippine Idol.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading File:Jan Nieto Philippine Idol.jpg, which you've sourced to http://www.flickr.com/photos/edgarj/323063640/. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.

If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read the Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Logan Talk Contributions 08:46, 28 December 2012 (UTC)Reply

Non-free rationale for File:RoyalTruOrange.JPG edit

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:RoyalTruOrange.JPG. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under non-free content criteria, but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia is acceptable. Please go to the file description page, and edit it to include a non-free rationale.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified the non-free rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Disambiguation link notification for September 5 edit

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Train to Busan, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Class warfare. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

2019 US Banknote Contest edit

  US Banknote Contest
November-December 2019

There are an estimated 30,000 different varieties of United States banknotes, yet only a fraction of these are represented on Wikimedia Commons in the form of 2D scans. Additionally, Colonial America, the Confederate States, the Republic of Texas, multiple states and territories, communities, and private companies have issued banknotes that are in the public domain today but are absent from Commons.

In the months of November and December, WikiProject Numismatics will be running a cross-wiki upload-a-thon, the 2019 US Banknote Contest. The goal of the contest is to increase the number of US banknote images available to content creators on all Wikimedia projects. Participants will claim points for uploading and importing 2D scans of US banknotes, and at the end of the contest all will receive awards. Whether you want to claim the Gold Wiki or you just want to have fun, all are invited to participate.

If you do not want to receive invitations to future US Banknote Contests, follow the instructions here
